Our “Fixture Frisking” goes out with a bang this week, analysing the remaining games for all 20 Premier League teams to focus on the opponents, motivation and prospects for the season climax.

Our two-part article starts with those teams handed the most favourable conditions for Fantasy returns, and ends later this evening with those teams facing a rougher ride to the first tee of the summer…

West Ham

Final three fixtures: [BLA, wig, SUN]
Avram Grant’s men are fighting for survival with form faltering badly. Fortunately, the Hammers have, on paper, the best possible run of opponents to see them wriggle free of the relegation dogfight. With home games against Blackburn and Sunderland (as well as a trip to fellow strugglers Wigan), West Ham clearly have the fixtures and the motivation to tempt Fantasy investment, despite their plight. Last week’s Watchlist article revealed all you need to know on their key asset going into the final three and Thomas Hitzlsperger, along with striker Demba Ba, could yet provide major differentials.

Banker: Thomas Hitzlsperger Differential: Demba Ba

Wolves

Final three fixtures: [WBA, sun, BLA]
Like West Ham, Mick McCarthy’s Wolves are also looking to scrap their way out of trouble. Similarly, they couldn’t really have hoped for more assistance from the fixture computer. A home derby against West Brom and fellow strugglers Blackburn (as well as a trip to a shot-shy Sunderland) will give McCarthy hope that he can engineer an escape act, while Fantasy Managers may yet find some joy amongst the Molineux squad.

Banker: Jamie O’Hara Differential: Stephen Fletcher

Man City

Final three fixtures: [eve/TOT, STK, bol]
With four games in their final three weeks and the all important fourth place (let alone the chance to snag auto-qualification with third spot) still not yet tied up, City still have their eye on the ball and the fixtures to make investment a worthy consideration. Those who resisted the temptation to load up on City assets prior to the West Ham clash will surely be revising their targets for gameweek 36 and we can expect heavy investment in Roberto Mancini’s squad this week. Rotation appears to be a likely enemy however, with the Italian hinting that his lineup will see shuffling over the busy season climax and with the FA Cup Final looming.

Banker: David Silva/Yaya Toure Differential: Mario Balotelli

Tottenham

Final three fixtures: [BPL/mcy, liv, BIR]
Tottenham are of course the other side boasting a double fixture in the forthcoming gameweek and that will undoubtedly make them a popular source for end of season talent. The away days aren’t the best but the double and the home fixtures against Blackpool and Birmingham should see investment as Spurs remain highly motivated by fading hopes of a Champions League place and the battle for fifth with Liverpool.

Banker: Rafael Van Der Vaart Differential: Luka Modric

Bolton

Final three fixtures: [SUN, bpl, MCY]
If Bolton had something to play for, the scenario would be perfect for Fantasy investment. Sadly, the early aspirations of getting a Europa League spot have fallen by the wayside, while the mauling at the hands of Stoke in the FA Cup cost them entry via that route. We have to hope that Owen Coyle’s men aren’t simply going to coast to the finish line however, as they’ve got some of the better fixtures remaining. The trip to Blackpool and a home clash with a Sunderland absolutely ravaged by injury, look set to offer profits and if Daniel Sturridge can regain fitness, he will be back installed as a most-wanted transfer target.

Banker: Daniel Sturridge Differential: Gary Cahill

Sunderland

Final three fixtures: [bol, WLV, whm]
Sunderland have all but secured their Premier League status after a winter slump, but their squad is struggling to cope with an accumulation of injuries that now has them flapping just above the relegation drowning pool. If you can find a diamond in amongst the wreckage then their final three games against Bolton, Wolves and West Ham certainly aren’t the worst on offer, but finding that prospect looks tough. Could Nedum Onuoha provide an unlikely out-of-position option?

Banker: Stephane Sessegnon Differential: Jordan Henderson/Nedum Onuoha

West Brom

Final three fixtures: [wlv, EVE, new]
Roy Hodgson looks to have secured West Brom’s status as a Premier League outfit – a job very well done. Now the Baggies have three games where they can let the reins slip loose and allow their record goalscorer to fire them further up the table. Peter Odemwingie’s prospects remain strong with West Brom having scored in their last 9 league games, including 5 goals in the previous 3 away trips – comforting statistics for those pondering investment for the three fixtures that remain.

Banker: Peter Odemwingie Differential: Chris Brunt

Man United

Final three fixtures: [CHE, bla, BPL]
Gameweek 36 and the fixture with Chelsea is crucial, not only for United’s title prospects but also for Fantasy Managers planning investment or the pondering the merits of retaining the services of their players. The result against Chelsea will surely dictate how United approach their remaining games against Blackburn and Blackpool – if they can secure a win next weekend, then the foot could come off the gas ahead of a likely Champions League final. Owners of Wayne Rooney and those still clinging to Nani will be hoping that Chelsea get something at Old Trafford to keep United’s motivation and Fantasy prospects simmering.

Banker: Wayne Rooney Differential: Antonio Valencia

Wigan

Final three fixtures: [avl, WHM, stk]
The Latics are another side fighting for survival and another who have been given a helping hand by the campaign climax. Their opponents for these final three weeks has them face off against teams flirting with the top half. Visits to Aston Villa and Stoke, who could be found reveling in the comfort of safety, may provide Wigan with a decent platform for points, while the home clash with West Ham looks as vital as any fixture over the remaining weeks. Wigan have scored 6 goals in their last 3 matches so form looks strong enough. Attacking assets, with Charles N’Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega at top billing, could yet provide healthy end of season differentials.

Banker: Charles N’Zogbia Differential: Hugo Rodallega/Tom Cleverley

Newcastle

Final three fixtures: [BIR, che, WBA]
The trip to Stamford Bridge looks daunting, particularly if Chelsea remain in the title hunt. Home games against Birmingham and West Brom however, should provide Alan Pardew’s men the chance to ensure that they earn the point required to keep themselves out of the relegation mire. This weekend’s home clash with Birmingham looks a hum-dinger, but the smart money will be on three points there with attacking returns available for the likes of Kevin Nolan.

Banker: Kevin Nolan/Joey Barton Differential: Shola Ameobi

+1. They had the chance to beat Wigan (at home?) and cocked it up.

After Warnock bitching and moaning for a year or so that West Ham should've been deducted points, its come back around and he's all quiet. I do severely dislike Warnock and so I'd lol lots and lots if they got deducted points and didn't get promoted.

Genuine shame for QPR fans though, I must say.

Harry Redknapp took that 2-1 defeat pretty well, to name but one example.

They're not all as bad as each other.

Harry doesn't like being hit on the head with the ball though.

What does it mean that my head-to-head league has fixtures set in GW 36, but instead of fixtures in GW 37 and 38, there are "Semi-Finals" and "Finals"? Does that mean there is a tournament beginning in GW 37? If so, does it consist of the top 4 teams in my league?

If it's a top-4 tournament, and I'm already mathematically in the top 4, shouldn't I take massive hits this week even at the expense of losing GW 36 to ensure getting proper players for the final 2 weeks?

Top four end up in the semi-finals.

If this head to head is for money, then the tactic you suggest makes sense, although I'd never mess with overall ranking for a H2H tournament.

Many thanks. I've never even considered my overall ranking and only got into FPL for the H2H league, so I'll likely throw GW36 to load up on the right players for 37 and 38.

If QPR get deducted 15 points will they still have a play off position? Because I doubt the league would want that, it'd just make it near impossible for any other team to go up that way.

Yes of course they would be, they can't be just cast aside if they finished in the top 6 after a points deduction. The playoffs are a lottery anyway - the team in 3rd rarely gets promoted.

This comment doesn't make any sense to me.

If they were deducted 15 points of course they would be in the play-offs.

      a) "the league" don't decide on the points deduction, were there to even be one.
      b) the assumption (I'm guessing is your point) that QPR would walk the play-offs were this to happen is way off anyway.

The league would probably be able to put a word in would they not? i'm really not sure.

And considering QPR have won the league by a fair margin, they'd be clear favourites.

It's an independent panel entirely so things like that don't happen. It would be an utter travesty were anything to every happen like that in football.

Of course they'd be favourites were they to fall back to 3rd-6th. However, any of Reading/Swansea/Forest can 'quite easily' beat them - they're certainly no Goliath -They'll likely end 5 points-ish clear at the top, that's nothing to write home about compared to other seasons- but a good team they are.

Sorry but I think it's preposterous idea that the football league would say "oh just deduct them a few more [or less] points so they don't make the play-offs because they're too good". Now that would be a Mourinho conspiracy.

My original comment was that the league wouldn't want it, I didn't mention the potential 'travesty'. It was an actual observation, and I do still doubt the league would want it, as mentioned in my first comment.

I'm maybe a bit confused, so excuse me, what do you believe the league want then?

QPR to finish 1-2nd or 7th and below, because that's the jist of what I'm getting anyway.

The league wanting anything other than fair justice whether it be 1 or a 20 point deduction or QPR being cleared entirely is what the travesty would be. They should have no intentions or preference of where one or any club place.

...or am I just misconstruing your term of "the league" and mean the other teams they'd have to face wouldn't want them in the playoffs?

I'd say so, although these double gamesweeks don't half spring out a surprise or two. Saying that, City's fixtures don't have a lot of goals written all over them. Everton away is difficult and the game with Spurs at home has a feel of 1-1 about it.

VDV & Silva/Yaya look enough for this double gamesweek imho.

I fancy Everton to turn City over - if Baines had been priced the right side of £7.0m I might have gone for him. I need a defender or two this week and I am going to take a chance on Gary Cahill for the last 3 games.

I've got fond memories of Timmy Cahill this season, but the Asia Cup knackered him up. Might be worth a punt Roy as you seek to wittle down your mate's gap at the top of your mini-legaue. It might be late but what about Osman?

It is faintly embarrassing to have a head of state chosen by fact of their birth, but I cannot imagine any political party putting in place a decent alternative.

They'd all just try to set it up to their own advantage. This was why the Aussies chose to stick with the Queen when they had their referendum.

i think alot of people are underestimating the fact that vdv looked fat and unfit, and i reckon he gets a rest v blackpool. I may be persuading myself here of course, as i need to maintain differentials, and the guy im chasing will doubtles captain him. Yes, i could fall further behind, but i could also gain if he does nowt.

Fact is, if i was Harry, id rest him as they can beat blackpool without him, and he's almost rvp-like in fragility. AND, he's waddling around the pitch like a fat chipper worker lately

well lads if i had to put money on it, id say he starts. but the fact is hes looked extremely fat and waddly, like he's saving his legs- like a forty year old plays indoor five aside ye know- staying in midfield, treading water, picking out passes. Now if youre a manager with any conidence in your team, and a man isnt fit and could be better used against better teams, you allocate your resources accordingly.

I genuinely dont think Harry is a great manager thoguh.

I'd consider the Nani move... not sure about Totty's defence though.

Did that Nani move last week, no regrets so far. But you'd have to feel ok about missing those last two United fixtures.

Personally, I can't see a CS in either Spurs game and so unless you're banking on attacking returns, I can't really see the point in using a transfer on one of their defenders at this stage.

i think youre proliferating bad advice on that all day Hunter. Id expect defoe to get a start v blackpool, and pav cant finish a piss lately. Likelood is harry tries to get his favourite flat track buly back on the scoresheet agaisnt blackpool

What's happened to Crouch? I thought him and VDV were getting into a little 'n large groove together a while ago, which if I remember right was quite profitable for VDV.

You may have a point there RBJ. Pav has started the last 5, but while he occasionally works hard, he's not been ripping up trees. Defoe and/or Crouch could get a run against Blackpool.

I have a selction nightmare. Current team:

    Cech, (Begovic)
    Kolarov, RJ, Luiz, Simpson, Smalling
    Nani, Yaya, Lamps, Young, Silva
    Bent, Odem, RVP

    Bank 0.2

    1 free tranny

    Do I do:

    A: Nani -> VDV
    B: Young -> Modric

Will be getting rid of Young & Bent after this gw.

If I ship in a Totty player, who the hell do I bench from my front 8?

Cheers. I may just get in Dawson or Gallas and still leave myself with the bench prob.

For anyone else considering Demba Ba, I've been looking at the stats for forwards over the last 5 GWs. He doesn't come out well on 'distribution and influence', but he's joint 6th for attempts on goal and joint 5th for shots on target. So given his remaining opponents he could indeed have something in him. As long as, they don't lose the first game, it becomes a mathematical impossibility for them to stay up (???) and lose all motivation.

Does any think Gomes might be dropped for his recent bumbling antics?

Nope. Harry's backed him again after the game.
Cudicini could come in I guess, but it'll only be if Gomes doesn't fancy it.

I just had to go and look up who their other keepers were.... Nah, can't see Gomes being dropped. What he'll need is a confidence boost and some reassuring words from Harry. If he dropped him, and brought someone else in who didn't work out, then he's only left with a deflated Gomes licking his wounds. I'd say Harry would be mad to drop him now.
