As this 2010/11 season has progressed, the displays of David Silva become more assured with every passing game. There was no questioning the Spaniard’s ability when he joined Man City from Valencia at the start of the season, it was more a question of a tricky settling-in period for a diminutive playmaker less accustomed to the physical rigours of the Premier League.

A look at Silva’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points is fairly indicative of his debut campaign; up until the end of January, he’d played 22 games, scoring 1 goal, picking up 5 assists and 7 Bonus Points for a return of just 74 points, averaging just 3.3 points per game. For a player who started the FPL game priced 9.0 back in August, it was something of an understatement to view Silva as poor value in terms of Fantasy Investment.

Since February, however, the Spaniard seems to have found his feet within both the league and Roberto Mancini’s Man City system. The past 9 games have seen score 3 goals, pick up 3 assists and 11 Bonus Points for a 56 point return, or 6.2 ppg, more or less double his previous output.

Last Sunday’s home win over West Ham saw Silva at the heart of so many Man City moves, with a fantastic display that could have brought home far more than just 7 points for his Fantasy Owners. As our Members can see, this was far and away Silva’s most influential performance of the season and it seems that, in the absence of Carlos Tevez, his importance to City has only increased. Here’s a look at his displays in the last two home games, with and without Tevez.

This Average Position map shows Tevez (32) playing far up the field in the Sunderland game. Silva is just obscured by Mario Balotelli (45), who started in the middle of the front three, with Yaya Toure (42) fielded in defensive midfield.

Against West Ham, Silva (21) is virtually in the same position, but the crucial difference here is Balotelli. Playing as the lone forward on Sunday, the Italian’s position, rather than being similar to Tevez, shows a different interpretation of the role, as he played far deeper than the Argentine.

This meant that when in possession there was no Tevez to play forward to and Silva, popping up all over the pitch, became the main outlet time and again. Yaya Toure, back in his familiar berth at attacking central midfield, was City’s most forward player on average, as his endless energy saw him bomb forward and cause the Hammers problems from deep. City kept the ball much better, and had 60% possession against West Ham compared to 50% against Sunderland.

A look at Silva’s passing chalkboards in the two matches is revealing. He made 43 passes against Sunderland but against West Ham his distribution almost doubled, as he made 75 passes in an altogether more threatening performance, despite the match finishing 2-1 to the hosts.

A look at City’s shots also confirms they had more attempts in the West Ham game, with 21 shots (5 blocked) compared to 16 shots (5 blocked) versus Sunderland. Silva, in particular, managed 4 shots against the Hammers but just 1 in the Black Cats demolition, another example of an increase in his attacking potency.

With Tevez still only rated 50-50 for the FA Cup Final and Edin Dzeko failing to make much of an impression, it appears Balotelli is likely to continue leading the line for City, a good omen, perhaps, for Silva Fantasy Owners ahead of the upcoming double gameweek (eve & TOT) and beyond (STK, bol). Let’s hope the City boss chooses not to follow up on his weekend hint of rotation, then.

Downing has Wigan at home this weekend, Nani has Chelsea, tough one, Nani loves playing at home but has seen a dip in effectiveness of late, if you had to do one, Nani OUT VDV IN would be my choice as Downing is consistant if nothing else.

No on the -4 in my view, City cannot be trusted for clean sheets given the fixtures and I don't fancy this " he is due a goal or an assist" attitude towards Kolarov

So Fergie said he will rotate the crap out of the team for tomorrow night, I wonder how many of the back four he will keep? I am thinking:

    VDS
    Fabio/Vidic/Smalling/Evra
    Valencia/Gibson/Scholes/Obertan
    Berbatov/Owen

Thoughts? (doing Fantasy UCL and a punt on Gibbo at 4.9 is just what I need to wedge Ronaldo into my team)

Any ideas who will be the wide men against Chelsea on Sunday? I'm inclined to say Valencia - Fergie likes putting him up against Cole - and Park - the man for the big games, but thinking about it now, Nani usually gives Ivanovic a torrid time down the left.

Obviously the team Fergie wants to play on Sunday will have a massive impact on the side that plays on Wednesday. Wouldn't have thought that Valencia will start, I'd say he's nailed on to play on the right on Sunday.

Valencia only played about 30 minutes on Sunday so I think he'll start. Fergie isn't stupid but if we can get a goal, then he'll make changes in the second half.

I actually don't fancy Valencia against Cole, like Enrique did earlier in the season, a really good LB can keep Valencia quiet purely because he will ALWAYS go on to his right foot, because he doesn't have a left foot, so it's easy to mark him.

At the weekend I think it will be (and I think you are right about Nani):

        VDS
        O'Shea/Vidic/Ferdinand/Evra
        Park/Giggs/Carrick/Nani
        Rooney/Hernandez

We will need O'Shea's height at set piece time, Park is our big game workhorse, and Nani has in the past destroyed Ivanovic, rest of the team picks itself.

Giggsy/Demi, I don't know, Fergie has a penchant for throwing Obertan into his line up at the funniest of times, and I think he might fancy a bit of pace with Gibson and Scholes in there, he won't risk Nani/Park and maybe even Valencia, so I wouldn't be at all surprised but I agree, I don't want to see him there

Hmmmm.. Malouda and Cole did give Park/O'Shea a tough time in the Champions League game at Old Trafford, so perhaps Fergie may want a different pairing to avoid a repeat.

RE Valencia, I was thinking from more a defensive view-point. In the past he's done a great job of negating Cole's attacking threat down the right. You're right that Valencia often struggles against the top left backs, but he's still going to be more a attacking threat than Park!

The key to the game should be how well Mikel does marking Rooney in the space between the lines.

Cole has hardly been the greatest of threats going forward this season though, and I would fancy Park to track back and do the same job Valencia does, what I like about Park is that he is not restricted to the right wing as much as Valencia is with his "one foot".

I have tried to predict Fergie's line ups all season though and failed miserably most of the time, it is a throw up between Park and Valencia on the right, I think Nani should and will play on the left.

Either way, I am not looking forward to the tension of that game on Sunday!

Cause I will have 6 free transfers for the final, and I have 6 United and 3 Barcelona, so will only need 2 free transfers to make full 11, so I fancy Real to give it a real go tonight, and Ronaldo will be at the centre of anything that happens hopefully

I actually have Di Maria and Ozil, Ozil came on in the weekend game and set up Ramos' goal from the corner, that being said, he was ineffective against Barca last week so I am tempted to downgrade Ozil to Gibson, and upgrade Hernandez to Ronaldo.

Real will have to start with one or even two of Higuain/Adebayor/Benzema with Ronaldo, so either Di Maria or Ozil could miss out as they were played in a front three with Ronaldo in the first leg.

Well I have decided to stick with Messi/Raul and do Hernandez OUT Owen IN, it was just too hard to try and wedge Ronaldo in for Hernandez, although, if you have Rooney, it is a pretty easier prospect, I would definitely do that and downgrade elsewhere if I were you

Kolorov, trying to stay within the guy in 4th in my minileague, he has Hart, I reckon I need some City defensive cover just in case.

Needed to get a cheap starting forward, I think Chico is secure till the end now, plus who better than the best striker in the league?

Not necessarily the players im getting in are a gamble just players I'm transferring out & benching.

If we hear Sturridge is fit I'm bringing him in for Suarez, despite his form Fulhan will be tough and Sunderland are their for the taking.

Also thinking the same for Parker, Tosey has made some good points about West Ham and their fixtures are appealing, the gamble hear would be who I would drop at the weekend to the bench, in thinking Lampard.

    Should I:

    A) Play Djourou
    B) Play Huth
    C) Play R Johnson
    D) RJ or Huth > Dawson (-4pt)
    E) RJ or Huth > Onuoha (-4pt)

in a similar situation myself. Currently playinjg both Huth and RJ. IMO I would go B.

However going down the hit route it would be RJ out (I just like Huth's goal potential) but for Dawson most definetely not a mackem defender. However I would prefer a city defender ahead of both.

Maxed out on City. Only reason I suggested Onuoha is the potential of him playing OOP against some fairly dodgy defense. Currently playing Kolorov Walker and Huth. May stick with that.

Chasing a small lead of about 20 or so points im my minileague, but think i'm looking at a bad week.

Most of my DEFs are looking at conceding I feel with who they are against. (Citeh, Ars, Spurs, Manu)

Thinking of going big on the DGW, what does anyone reckon to this:

    Adam --> Silva
    Dempsey --> Modric
Luiz --> Cahill (to be able to afford the above two)

Or should I save 4pts by taking out Lampard for Modric and not doing the Luiz transfer?

    Team is linked, advice appreciated.

More chance of playing both games now Zabaletta is on form and Micah is back. Although saying that if they are resting for the final I would imagine you'd rather face Stoke with a back-line containing big lumps like Richards and Lescott. You prefer to downgrade Lamps than Torres?

Advice please...minileague is all but wrapped up (130 points ahead of nearest "rival") but I would like to go for May's manager of the month prize as well!

    Foster (Begovic)
Huth - Walker - Kolarov (Luiz, Carr)
    VDV(c) - Silva - Lampard - Young - Adam
    RVP - Odemwingie (Welbeck!)

First, which GK and 3 defenders would you play - have I got this right?

Second, should I do any more transfers - I've used my free one already to bring in King Odem. With Tottenham playing Blackpool (H) as part of a DGW and then a last game against the defensive sieve that is Birmingham, it seems to make sense to bring in another Spurs attacker but I don't trust any of the forwards to start both games and normally I would go for Bale but is he playing left back at the moment? Modric seems to me not a very attacking midfielder. Maybe just bring in Dawson to improve the defence but a Spurs defender??? Can anyone recommend a second Spurs player in addition to VDV?

    Thanks.

Johnson could be good, but way too much of a rotation risk. When Mancini says rotation, I see that more as Johnson out rather than Silva.
I expect Silva will get the nod for me. I last had Modric in my team at the start of last season, but his injuries and being the man who passes to the man who assists over the years has put me off until now.

I would fancy Zamora alright, although Adam is in "must score/must win" territory, Bobby seems to have come back with a bit of form, and I did Bobby OUT Odemwingie IN this week, not the worst move but annoying where the Bobby Z Dizzle move didn't do anything for me in the DGW and then he got a few assists the following week.

    c) Keep Adam and play him.

no...too much of a rotation risk...Odemwingie would be better if you are looking for a similarly priced striker.
Harry will play VDV plus one of Crouch, Pav, Defoe to start. Crouch may not even get 90 mins in the double let alone 180.

As Jonty quite rightly says, it will be VDV and one of Pav/Crouch/Defoe, so no point getting one where they mighn't play the easier of the DGW games (Blackpool). Pav seems to be getting the most pitch time but getting one of the above 3 to me is a bit of a pointless excercise and a clear indicator of DGW fever setting in early.

I wouldn't suggest any spurs strikers. Blackpool may get thumped but you have three strikers to choose from to play. So not only are you betting that blackpool concede a lot but you have to bet which of three strikers will do that thumping.
I would argue that Bent v Wigan, sturridge (if fit) v Sunderland, Odem v Wolves or even Ba against Blackburn are all better transfers in.
Don't get too clouded by double game week. do you realy want bench fodder like Defoe or Crouch in your team for the run in?

Is anyone considering Bale? Sounds odd to consider him a differential but nobody seems to suggest him, Modric seems to be more popular.

    Team is as follows

    Foster
    Huth Hangeland Luiz Coleman
    VDV, Lamapard, Nani, Adam, Yaya
    Van Persie

    2.2 in bank

    Was thinking of:

    A) Foster > Hart & Nani - Silva (4 pt hit)
    B) Foster > Hart / Nani - Silva / Adam - Bale (8 pt hit)
    C) Foster > Hart (0 pt)

I'm currently 2nd in mini league, 3rd 4th 5th are 20 points behind and 1st is 90 points ahead... SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!

Bale will be playing LB and has done nothing in the past 10 games to make me consider him in anyway worth it
