This morning reports are suggesting that Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez is closing in on a return to action.

Itโ€™s stated that Tevez is โ€œrunning at full pace and kicking a ball againโ€ and could be back in full-training at Carrington today or tomorrow. An appearance against Tottenham on Tuesday, in the second fixture of Cityโ€™s double Gameweek, may well be on the cards. This latest update comes just days after other sources suggested that Tevez was still struggling to be in contention for the FA Cup Final on May 14.

The skipperโ€™s comeback would be a timely one and it will unquestionably boost Cityโ€™s attempts to leap over this seasonโ€™s final few hurdles – these being the Wembley final and securing Champions League football with a fourth place finish.

Significantly, Roberto Mancini has stated that Tevez must play some part in Tuesday’s clash with Spurs if he is to factor in City’s FA Cup lineup.

“It is very difficult for him to play against Everton and if he doesn’t play against Tottenham, it will be impossible for Carlos to play in the final.”

That has undoubtedly motivated Tevez and should it be confirmed that he has returned to full training this week, then the striker would seem certain to play a part in Tuesday’s game. His level of involvement could ride on the result of Saturdayโ€™s clash with Everton – a win would cement fourth spot, but should City drop points at Goodison, City and Spurs will still have much to play for, which would set the scene for the re-introduction of Tevez.

In Fantasy terms, the striker has been an almost essential Fantasy asset – fetching an impressive 19 goals, 6 assists and 29 Bonus Points in the Fantasy Premier League game, which has given him a total score of 170. Despite his term of absence, Tevez is still owned by over 18% of managers in the game โ€“ they will certainly be hoping to see their man return to play some part for Cityโ€™s final three matches.

Those without Tevez wonโ€™t be feeling so positive about the possibility of a return. The potential offered by Mario Balotelli, David Silva and Adam Johnson now appears to be less secure with Tevez in the equation, casting doubt on double gameweek investment.

Elsewhere in the City squad, Nigel de Jong and Pablo Zabaleta are both expected to be fit to play at the weekend after suffering minor injuries; Micah Richards could return to the bench for the trip to Goodison Park.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I dont get why he never went with Murphy and Samaras from the start like he did against St Johnstone a while back. Horses for courses and all that. Just happens that the whole spine had a nightmare all in the same game. If the centre halfs were having an off day, the mid and forwards should still be good enough to carry them

Lol. I was wondering how long it would be before you gnu turned up!

the reason i dont think we wont win it now is i dont see you's lot dropping points. Regardless of your performance, you somehow get the result. + playing before we do will put the pressure on, and after last night, i dont think the players can handle it

WE do scrape results all we need to do iis win our games, which on paper are easier. Although I agree i dont think the celtic players/management team can handle it. Its ours to lose.

          *tangent"

Shouldn't it be pronounced "Maseenee" rather than "Macheenee"? I don't know a lot of Italian but I thought double C is "ch", CH is "k" and C is "s".

              Nope - it's definitely "Man-chee-nee.

The letter 'c' is pronounced 'ch' in Italian when it is followed by an 'e' or an 'i'.

Eh? 'Cappuccino' is pronounced 'cap-pu-chi-no' for the same reason as in the name 'Mancini' - the 'c' is followed by an 'i'. The doubling of the consonant doesn't affect the vowel sound that follows.

When 'c' is followed by 'a', 'o' or 'u' it is pronounced as a hard /k/ phoneme. 'Sch' is pronounced like an English 'sh'.

My question was that because it is pronounced "cap-uh-chee-no" what is the point of the the third "c"? But you've answered that obliquely.

To complicate matters yet further - 'che' and 'chi' in Italian are pronounced 'ke' and 'ki' respectively.

For example , 'le banche' (ban-ke); 'la chiesa' (ki-eh-sah); chiuso (ki-u-so)

Double consonants in Italian should always be pronounced with relish. If you listen to an Italian say a word such as 'doppia', you will always hear two slightly separate sounds.

I'm in Aus and I like our Preferential Voting system because I treat voting as voting for the person I hate the least. This means that those I really don't like won't get my vote. I never see it as actually voting For someone - which 1st past the post is. Anyway - my 2 cents worth...

When you think about it - in a country where voting is optional (most places except in Aus) if there is a 50% turnout and three strong candidates a person could get something like 15% of the population wanting them and getting in. That said, we still get plenty of rubbish politicians here too.

Not saying either is wrong. I guess it comes down to philosopy. If you think the winner should be the person the least people hate, then it is a preferential system. If you think the winner should be the person that has the most people wanting them solely as No.1, then 1st past the post.

I personally prefer the former. Another reason is that if two decent candidates are stealing votes off each other a third candidate could win.

I can't see Tevez having much impact in this DGW personally.

I'm certainly not regretting bringing in Yaya and Silva the other week. If Tevez scores, it's likely those 2 will be involved.

Rooney > Tevez for GW37-38 could be a plan though and have Tevez, Silva & Yaya. It's all about having players who still have something to fight for.

Rooney is the thorn in my side at the momment, the last 2 week she has been the only player I have wanted to take out but have felt compelled to keep, was so close to doing Rooney OUT Suarez IN and (C) Suarez last week, but I didn't and instead did the same move in Metro captaining Suarez, I mean IF United win at the weekend, or get a draw, there aren't going to be a load of goals, so getting rid of Rooney a few weeks back looks to have been the better option.

He better do something this weekend, firstly as a United fan, and secondly because of being a Fantasy Manager!

Easy move at this stage, Nani is completely lacking in form and after last night I really don't fancy him to start at the weekend, despite thinking the complete opposite before the game yesterday, Valencia was immense, he will definitely start, I also think Park will be in there too with Giggs/Carrick in CM

I think Nani improved as the game went on. Earlier on he did look sluggish but then set up the goal when he pulled it back and did some nice moves.

It'll be close between the 2 and I don't think Fergie is even sure which one to start, which is why he kept them both on for 90 minutes.

Like City could rotate any of their players.

The question I'm pondering: Walcott (Stoke away) or Nani (Chelsea home) ftw?

I'm thinking Nani because his home record is impressive. I think Fergie will take that into account and he played decent at Stamford Bridge.

Are you going to? I don't think I would with Odem RVP Suarez.

Not worth the risk in my opinion.

I know you are not getting VDV, but you also have Cesc, Lamps and Kuyt like me. Which one would you get rid of for VDV? I'm leaning towards losing Lamps and getting either him or Malouda in the following GW.

really hope he's fit. his 32 points away at stoke last season were very welcomed, especially as didier brought home 4

More likely to gamble on Tevez Tosey. Not sure he'll make the first but three left anyway, and I do like the effort he puts in.

Best cheap(ish) keeper to bring in for the rest of the season

Currently got Cech, need to raise 1.4m so i can bring VDV in for Adam

just get the cheapest keeper there is, you're not going to rotate cech anyway.

It will be my main keeper in place of Cech, not my sub.

Cech has to go so i can riase the 1.4m

          Oh right in that case:

          Green - Good fixtures
          Gomes - DGW, tough fixtures.
          Szcesney - Decent fixtures.

Just not sure i could expect any cleansheets from Gomes or Green. Looked at Schwarzer but they have Liverpool and Arsenal coming up.

Green would at least get save points. Personally, i'd go for Szcesney.

Thinking i might go with my other option, keep Adam. Bring VDV in for Lamps for this week only.

Then either leave Cech in goals or bring in Hart.

There's only 3 games left. Rotation is a meaningless concept now.
