One big dilemma – several routes to a solution. Once again we take on the big issue currently rattling around the brains of Fantasy Managers and present our view of the paths to take, in order of preference.

The Problem: A double gameweek for City and Spurs offers another opportunity to cash in and fetch a points haul that can shift mini-league fortunes. The issue here is that rest and rotation is a concern, particularly in the City ranks. Roberto Mancini has already announced that he could look to shuffle his pack, perhaps even for the weekend trip to Everton.

Earn three points in that game however and City could assure themselves a Champions League spot, making Tuesday’s clash with Spurs academic in that respect. That match falls just four days before an FA Cup Final with Stoke and then, bizarrely, City will host Stoke at Eastlands the following Tuesday. There’s every chance that players will be rested for both games around the Wembley Final then.

To add to the mix, Carlos Tevez is reportedly close to a return to training and, if available, will almost certainly see some action in Tuesday’s game. With that in mind, how do we approach the potential offered by gameweek 36 and its double fixture?

Plan A

Stay Flexibile. The threat rotation in the City lineup, is pretty strong, particularly if they earn a result at Goodison and Blackpool take something from Spurs. With that in mind, Fantasy Managers would do well to back double gameweek acquisitions who seem less vulnerable, or at least do not take up valuable positions or funds in the squad.

Mario Balotelli and David Silva are two players who will be particularly at risk should Roberto Mancini have the luxury of resting players for the Spurs encounter; they could also be handed a rest for the league clash with Stoke following a run-out on the sapping Wembley turf.

While Aleksandar Kolarov also falls in that bracket, with many Fantasy Managers choosing a formation with three at the back, his potential absence would not be such a big issue. Losing a striker or midfielder, particularly players priced at 8.5 and 8.0, would seem a far greater problem.

As we covered in a recent Technical Area, Yaya Toure at 6.0, looks the most secure option the City midfield. The Ivorian has started the last 8 games for Mancini and can adopt a holding midfield role, or play his part at the attacking point of a central midfield triangle with Gareth Barry and Nigel De Jong mopping up. Coming in 2.5 less than Silva, the sting of him missing out due to rotation would not be as severe, and would leave funds for reparations elsewhere.

Will Toure be as productive as Silva? Three games with just a single Bonus Point would indicate that he would represent a gamble in that respect, but would you rather have stronger security over 3 league fixtures or the promise of more explosive returns and the nagging anxiety before the teamsheets are announced?

Plan B

Keep clear. While Rafael Van der Vaart looks pretty much essential going into the gameweek deadline, do you need to supplement his potential with City’s risky assets? While Van der Vaart offers potential via Bonus, set-pieces and the fact that he’s Tottenham’s leading scorer – none of the players offered up by City present such assurances.

Sure enough, Silva has promise. His form over the past two months has been superb and he is certainly beginning to deliver on his hefty transfer fee. Remove the freakish 5-0 win over a poor Sunderland side in gameweek 31 however, and City have scored just 6 goals in their last 7 games – hardly a statistic that instills confidence and promotes investment in their attacking players.

The damming statistics go on; away from home Mancini’s side have just 2 goals in their last 4 trips, losing 3 of them, so the weekend visit to Goodison, with Everton still showing form, seems unlikely to be a rout. After that, City will host Spurs prior to a Cup Final distraction and, as we can recall, last year’s Champions League decider was a tense affair with just a single Peter Crouch goal between the sides. City just cannot be relied upon to deliver and taking points hits with rotation a threat, is a gamble too far.

Plan C

Go for broke. An option that will surely be adopted by Fantasy Managers desperately attempting to claw back a mini-league lead. Heavy investment in double gameweek assets against a backdrop of potential rotation is an ultimate “he who dares” policy.

City’s current form away from home suggests that they will fail to earn three points at Goodison, that should ensure that Silva and perhaps Balotelli will be needed to take on Spurs. Similarly, if City slip in that game, Mancini will surely need to go all out for three points against Stoke the following Tuesday. In a nutshell, you’re banking on City failing to claim a win before the FA Cup Final, therefore ensuring that Mancini must field his strongest lineup for the forthcoming league encounters. Silva, Balotelli and Kolarov should all start two, if not all three games. Bring them in with Rafael Van der Vaart and sit back and watch the points roll in.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Apparently the AV turnout was ridiculously low- sort of hope that the result will be no now as it would undermine the whole system if it was changed on the vote of 25% of the electorate.....

Anyone suggest a transfer, I have one free, or should i keep to have 2 next week. I still have hope that I can challenge for the top with a couple of good skippers and a lot of luck.. one can dream. 124th at the moment.

I hesitate to offer an opinion to 124th in the world, but you know I will. Not keen on Adam, but you may need two next week to sort Villa players and see if the title race is still on.This is not an attacking option of course. Maybe see if there are any stronger hints about Tevez tomorrow or Saturday morning,I could see him being quite a differential at the top as most will have got rid.

If it was me (sadly 1,000 places further back), I'd take a punt on this week's captain. You're not going to make up much ground with VDV, because he's the obvious pick.

Save your transfer. You have 3DGWers your opponent 1 so far, captain VDV in case of Silva rotation. Two TFs next week when you'll know if the title is still alive and you can lose some of your crappy bench.I would use Baines value, his fixtures aren't good,Young will have to go imo.Keep your fingers well and truely crossed you're a long way behind, but don't be paniced into transfers this week you would want to undo next.

I mean no offence, and you're probably not reading this now anyway, but that is without doubt the worst proposed double transfer I have ever seen on this site!

Yaya instead of Barry and the extra funds can be used to improve on Baptiste!

Need some pointers, still can't leave my team alone. Freebie transfer used, so any more will be hits. Protecting a 26pt lead, rival has no DGWs, other rivals at 44pts behind has at least 4.

    Foster (Robinson)
    Luiz, Huth, Kolarov (Coleman, Clark)
    Young, VDV(c), Kuyt, Dempsey (Adam)
    RVP, Drogs, Odem

Coleman>Cahill or Coleman>Dawson are possibilities but trying to limit the number of useless transfer in just for the DGW.

    Thoughts anyone?

It's a mighty fine bandwagon to jump on but no need to throw away points for it. Should be plenty of goals in the tot blp game, liv ful most likely will be low scoring.

In an input on my situation. Currently my rival is sitting on top of my mini-league and i 100 point a drift from him. Here are the squad,

    My rival team

    Foster (Carson)
    Sktel Baines Djourou Elmohamady (Hangeland)
    YoungA Walter Meireles (Dempsey Giggs)
    Persie Odemwingie Drogba

    and

    My team

    Reina (Foster)
    Huth Kolarov Flanagan (Luiz Smalling)
    Malouda Silva Osman Kuyt Lampard
    Odemwingie Persie (HErnandez)

What can i do to cut that 100 point gap between me and him?

This is my team for the weekend (at this stage):

    Schwarzer
    R Johnson, Huth, Djourou
    Yaya, Silva, VDV (c), Kuyt
    Bent, RVP, Odemwingythingy

    Res: (Foster), Lampard, Luiz, Coleman

What do you think? Doesn't seem right having a 13m player on the bench but heart hopes Chel$ki get rolled!! Leading my mini-leagues.

Looks good to be honest. I'd want Lampard in though and not just leave him on the bench because I 'hoped' Chelsea would get pounded. Chelsea will be well up for the game and you would think that Lampard will be involved if the do something. Only problem is I can't see who you would want to put on the bench though. Probably the right move considering that even if Chelsea do get a goal its only 6-10 points for Lampard where as the others could easily make that.

      Luiz over R. Johnson.

The big match could easily be 0-0 and Brum aren't good away from home. Otherwise, I think you've got it right. Benching Lampard feels wrong, but looking at the players you have, it's probably the best choice if you think the refs are playing for Man United.

Righto. Currently with Nani and Rooney but don't really want either going into this week and would rather not just bench them both. What's the best move? I'm about 10 points behind my main rival... Not set on a 4 point hit at all but desperate to make up the difference and want to differentiate our teams a bit. He has VDV so that move is just to keep pace while the second change would be to add the differential....

    1. Nani > VDV, Rooney > Suarez/ Lil Pea (-4 points)
    2. Walters > VDV, Rooney > Suarez/ Lil Pea (-4 points)
    3. Nani > VDV, Walters > Hitzlsperger (-4 points)

    Currently,

    Foster, Bergovic

R Johnson, Walker, Huth, Luiz, Hangeland

    Adam, Nani, Silva, Lampard, Walters

    Odemwingie, Rooney, RVP

    Any advice appreciated...Cheers.

Yeah that would be only 1 transfer then and basically leave

        Kuyt, Nasri, Drogba & Zamora

        vs

        Lampard, Silva, Odemwingie & Rooney

He is almost certain to take a 4 point hit as I think he has 3 injured players and Zamora. Also 2 Chelsea defenders so perhaps it's best to not take the hit and just hope that the right things happen this week for me.

    Suggestions?

Not easy - i'd be tempted with Walker over Luiz and perhaps Foster over Begovic. Otherwise all looks dandy. Any ideas for my move(s) this week Camzy?

I'm 65 points behind my main rival so looking for differentials...

      My squad:
      Foster, (Stockdale)
      Luiz, Baines, Kolarov, (Terry), Kelly
Fabs, VDV, A Young, Silva, Adam
      RVP, Zamora, (Welbeck)
      Bank 0.1m

      Rival’s squad:
      Szczesny, Mignolet
Terry, Baines, Hangeland, R Johnson, Baptiste
Nani, Malouda, Adam, A Young, Larsson

        I'd double on Chelsea.

        Foster

        Luiz, Terry, Kolarov

        Fabs, VdV, Silva, Young, Adam

        RvP, Sturridge

I'd look at shipping Zamora. Although the other options aren't so hot. Might go and take a punt on one of Sturridge, Carroll or Odemwingie.

Odem is probably the best choice, and you'd be covering his most in-form player. Then you just have to hope the likes of Fabs, Foster, Silva, Kolarov, Terry come through for you. Still hope. Fabs is the big one, I was thinking about getting him before he picked up his injury. If he gets confirmed out, I'd ship for Kuyt.

Backing a Chelsea c/s at Old Trafford is punchy, but I see your logic - will be tight so 0-0 or 1-0 either way is definitely possible. Benching Baines is hard given his form and high scoring/assisting threat for a defender. I'm liking Zamora -> Sturridge though if he's fit. Think I need to differentiate to make up 65 points so rules out Wingie (I would have considered him for sure otherwise...)

Do you think saving the transfer for next week is an OK move? Liverpool aren't hot away from home and Fulham solid at home so Zamora could do ok.

I'm playing walker over luiz, looks good otherwise imo.
I've gone and managed to convince myself Sturridge will start on the bench and probably make a late cameo. Sounds like he's recovered and will get a couple days training but Coyle won't risk upsetting chelsea by aggravating an injury in a match that's basically meaningless to bolton. So I'm considering benching him, if I'm wrong though and he starts I reckon he'll get double figures.
What do ya reckon anything to it? Probably not worth the risk right?

I'm risking it. He's a great striker and on good form against useless Sunderland.

Choosing out of my defense is tough. Thing is, I'd regret not playing Baines or Luiz if they score more than Villa or Newcastle getting CSs.

True, Baines can't be benched ever. You can mistake him for fabregas looking at his history. (Surely he'll smash vidic and terry's 8.0 price for a defender next season) I'm going walker over luiz though, he's got cs and attacking potential this week.

Have I dreamt that N'Zogbia is injured? If he is then I think that they (Villa) have an N'Zogbialess Wigan up next matters a great deal. Increases their CS chances substantially. Walker also a decent shout for assist points whether N'Zogbia plays or not. I have a teeny bias, but don't see Terry getting much at OT, CS almost certainly out of the question (though a goal isn't). Against United a card is always likely too.

Yeah zog's still doubtful and I agree on all counts. Villa are much improved defensively at home nowadays too. Collins and dunne are a quality cb pairing, as they showed last season. Villa's 1st half of this season was mayhem due to the players revolting over MON's sacking and a lot of them weren't happy with houllier.

    Hi guys, need some advice...
Play Drogba or Adam? i already have Luiz and Lampard as Chelsea coverage...but i'm a United fan...and to be honest i don't want any of them to score!

im in the exact same conundrum - im playing adam - how many will drogba score? - 1 maybe or maybe 1 assist cant see him scoring more than that - its either 1 goal that chelsea will score or united keep a cleanie - adam will be influantial if they score against a defence that loves to concede so i say adam.

Against united, I see drogba as much more of a threat than lampard... I can't imagine drogba not starting. In the champions league tie, the only time chelsea played well was when drogba was on the pitch (despite being down to ten men!) - so i can't see ancelotti dropping him.
