One big dilemma โ€“ several routes to a solution. Once again we take on the big issue currently rattling around the brains of Fantasy Managers and present our view of the paths to take, in order of preference.

The Problem: A double gameweek for City and Spurs offers another opportunity to cash in and fetch a points haul that can shift mini-league fortunes. The issue here is that rest and rotation is a concern, particularly in the City ranks. Roberto Mancini has already announced that he could look to shuffle his pack, perhaps even for the weekend trip to Everton.

Earn three points in that game however and City could assure themselves a Champions League spot, making Tuesdayโ€™s clash with Spurs academic in that respect. That match falls just four days before an FA Cup Final with Stoke and then, bizarrely, City will host Stoke at Eastlands the following Tuesday. Thereโ€™s every chance that players will be rested for both games around the Wembley Final then.

To add to the mix, Carlos Tevez is reportedly close to a return to training and, if available, will almost certainly see some action in Tuesdayโ€™s game. With that in mind, how do we approach the potential offered by gameweek 36 and its double fixture?

Plan A

Stay Flexibile. The threat rotation in the City lineup, is pretty strong, particularly if they earn a result at Goodison and Blackpool take something from Spurs. With that in mind, Fantasy Managers would do well to back double gameweek acquisitions who seem less vulnerable, or at least do not take up valuable positions or funds in the squad.

Mario Balotelli and David Silva are two players who will be particularly at risk should Roberto Mancini have the luxury of resting players for the Spurs encounter; they could also be handed a rest for the league clash with Stoke following a run-out on the sapping Wembley turf.

While Aleksandar Kolarov also falls in that bracket, with many Fantasy Managers choosing a formation with three at the back, his potential absence would not be such a big issue. Losing a striker or midfielder, particularly players priced at 8.5 and 8.0, would seem a far greater problem.

As we covered in a recent Technical Area, Yaya Toure at 6.0, looks the most secure option the City midfield. The Ivorian has started the last 8 games for Mancini and can adopt a holding midfield role, or play his part at the attacking point of a central midfield triangle with Gareth Barry and Nigel De Jong mopping up. Coming in 2.5 less than Silva, the sting of him missing out due to rotation would not be as severe, and would leave funds for reparations elsewhere.

Will Toure be as productive as Silva? Three games with just a single Bonus Point would indicate that he would represent a gamble in that respect, but would you rather have stronger security over 3 league fixtures or the promise of more explosive returns and the nagging anxiety before the teamsheets are announced?

Plan B

Keep clear. While Rafael Van der Vaart looks pretty much essential going into the gameweek deadline, do you need to supplement his potential with Cityโ€™s risky assets? While Van der Vaart offers potential via Bonus, set-pieces and the fact that heโ€™s Tottenhamโ€™s leading scorer โ€“ none of the players offered up by City present such assurances.

Sure enough, Silva has promise. His form over the past two months has been superb and he is certainly beginning to deliver on his hefty transfer fee. Remove the freakish 5-0 win over a poor Sunderland side in gameweek 31 however, and City have scored just 6 goals in their last 7 games โ€“ hardly a statistic that instills confidence and promotes investment in their attacking players.

The damming statistics go on; away from home Manciniโ€™s side have just 2 goals in their last 4 trips, losing 3 of them, so the weekend visit to Goodison, with Everton still showing form, seems unlikely to be a rout. After that, City will host Spurs prior to a Cup Final distraction and, as we can recall, last yearโ€™s Champions League decider was a tense affair with just a single Peter Crouch goal between the sides. City just cannot be relied upon to deliver and taking points hits with rotation a threat, is a gamble too far.

Plan C

Go for broke. An option that will surely be adopted by Fantasy Managers desperately attempting to claw back a mini-league lead. Heavy investment in double gameweek assets against a backdrop of potential rotation is an ultimate โ€œhe who daresโ€ policy.

Cityโ€™s current form away from home suggests that they will fail to earn three points at Goodison, that should ensure that Silva and perhaps Balotelli will be needed to take on Spurs. Similarly, if City slip in that game, Mancini will surely need to go all out for three points against Stoke the following Tuesday. In a nutshell, youโ€™re banking on City failing to claim a win before the FA Cup Final, therefore ensuring that Mancini must field his strongest lineup for the forthcoming league encounters. Silva, Balotelli and Kolarov should all start two, if not all three games. Bring them in with Rafael Van der Vaart and sit back and watch the points roll in.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

to the posts above saying spurs are leaking goals. Since dawson returned from injury they've conceded 9 goals in 9 home games, including 4 clean sheets. These 9 games included arsenal, united and chelsea.

Admittedly 7 of these goals were conceded in the last three... but still it's not as terrible as people make out!

lescott IS likely to play the next 3 games

When mancine talked of rotation it wasn't in defence, especially given their first choice centre back is banned.

Plus Lescott isn't in the same predicament as others who have been playing all season... He's still quite fresh.

defense doesn't look likely to return any CS, but obviously wouldn't use points on a defender transfer. only one to look at might be adam. that said, you're most likely benching him for o'hara this week.

feel like you'd have to go with huth and johnson. arsenal vulnerable (understatement of the day?) at set pieces, and newcastle less likely to score than united.

luiz' early chelsea heroics are hard to forget, but you'd have to think that he'll be pretty well covered by vidic & ferdinand.

would anyone back bringing suarez in for sturridge?

i guess the question is are the chances of sturridge playing and scoring against SUN better than suarez' against new?

alternatively, i can just leave sturridge there and use my free to bring in either modric or yaya for nani/kuyt/malouda.

    lots of questions, summarized below:

    suarez or sturridge?

    modric or yaya?

who to transfer out of nani/malouda/kuyt if player coming in is DGW player?

Also, suarez costs a lot more than sturridge - couldnt this money be used to improve elsewhere?

to realistically catch your leader - your differentials need to be different to him in areas where he is weak. VDV is a good decision, so don't be different for the sake of it

Look at both of your squads and see if there's a player with bad form/ fixtures that you both have... If that player exists, selling him could be a good differential... A likely example could be nani, adam, a chelsea defender, etc.

it's worth a 4 point hit if it involves getting vdv in, since he has an extra game and averages much more than 4 points per game.

If that's the best way you can see to get him in, there's no harm bringing odem in... But you might want rooney back for blackburn and blackpool

I think for those chasing a lead this weekend rvp captain is a good choice. Loads will have vdv but with his injury record there's every chance he could limp out early in the first game. I fancy arse to easily roll over a stoke side who's only focus on the cup final.
Yes, and before people shoot this down mentioning rvp's injury record - I acknowledge there's a chance of this happening too but if you want to catch up ground it's gamble time. To me thats the safest gamble around this weekend

Are the subs in the correct order and have i picked the correct 11?

Your team is almost Identical to my WC team, so I think you're doing quite well with out having to use WC. Your starting 11 is good, Subs is ok since Carr and R Johnson is no diff. Good luck lads.

WOW! This is a strange morning ilikestellaartois,I just read you were 37 pints behind 1st in your league. First thought was it could kill you catching up. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nelson has to go Elmo should go,it depends on your budget.Baines is OK but Expensive with crap games and a returning mid-field which may reduce his points.

I must get some toast, just the thought of 37 pints of stella at this time of the morning is not right. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have 1.1 in the bank and have already used my transfer this week to bring in VDV for Kuyt.
I was thinking of changing out Toure for Silva but would then have to drop Baines and take a cheaper spurs Defender?

My biggest dilemma right now is who to play as Captain, my nemesis will certainly put VDV as Captain so I need to find someone who will score more, Toure or Balotelli or hope he won't take the hit to bring in more City players and put VDV as Captain?

Wouldn't touch Balo now with the Tevez news. Is it really worth not (C) VDV, I know everyones rival is doing the same but hoping he does nothing against blackpool is too much of a risk imo. 1 peno 1 assist woud be enough from any capt this week I reckon

Took a 4pt hit to get this squad for this week...

    Hart
    Luiz, Djourou, R Johnson
    Lampard, VDV(c), Silva, Modric, O'Hara
    Bent, Odemwingie
    Subs: Begovic, Carroll, Coleman, Evra

I'm strongly considering playing Coleman though as I think there's a v good chance he'll start as Everton looked better against Wigan when he came on last week. Djourou is an injury doubt (will find out more in Wenger's press conference later) but assuming he's fit, do you think I should bring Coleman in for either him or Luiz? Leaving Evra on the bench as I'm playing Lamps and I can't seem to fit Carroll into my team this week. Only way I could play Carroll would be if I dropped Lamps and Luiz/Djourou and played Evra and Carroll.

    Thoughts?

Certainly agree with a 3 defender strategy although I'd play Coleman over Djorou given STK's home form.

Like me, your conundrum is who to bench from the mids and squids. At the moment, O Hara, albeit with a good fixture, looks most likely to be benched in my team. In yours, I'd be tempted to play him ahead of Carroll, given fitness and FUL at home. Good management, MelonF.

Of those 3 I'd drop djourou for coleman but I'm not convinced he'll start. I sold him today but I've got kelly (dead), kolarov (rotation) & walker (poor fixtures) so I couldn't afford to have him not playing.
Cahill, arteta, osman & neville are certain 1st choice now they're all fit so there's one spot left for one of coleman, rodwell, bilya & gueye. Seems to me moyes is intent ob giving rodwell a run atm.

Ok my team is more or less sorted for this week but i'm not sure about the last place in the 11.

    It either goes to..

    Huth
    Luiz
    Lampard
    Adam

with the other three on the bench. Currently Lampard holds the spot. Thoughts???

Wouldn't go with Huth as you have RVP so it kind of negates it.
Of the Chelsea players I'd much rather go with Lamps over Luiz.
That leaves Adam v Lamps and as you have at least one Spurs player, I'd go with Lamps as they have similar point scoring potential this week, but you already have at least one player in the Spurs match so better to spread your team over more fixtures to try and maximise bp scoring.

I wouldn't say huth negates van persie because he's a good attacking threat and arsenals defence will either be weak or rusty if vermaelens back.

But I definitely would play lampard ahead of huth! Chelsea will be going for the win, not the draw... so there could be goals in it.

Thank you both for your well constructed and informative replies, Lampard was (just) my choice aswell.

However, on another minor tweaking note, would Huth or Luiz be preferred over Hangeland, i'm just thinking Fulham are awesome at home, but Liverpool are on fire atm.....

    Good morning guys,

Im 45 ahead of my rival. He has taken a 4 point hit this week.

Working it out, I reckon he's done Nani & Malouda > Silva & VDV.

I assume he'l captain VDV, as will I.

I have VDV and Yaya for the double. Im worried about not having Silva, and I could do Lampard > Silva for a hit, to cover any potential gains he might get by having Silva as the differential.

    What do you think?

Should I take the hit on lamps > silva?

It won't hurt much if he didn't captain Silva 45 pts lead is quite solid consider only 3 week left but anything could happens. Just don't want you to loose Lamp though I think he'll play some part in Chelsea miracle comeback ๐Ÿ™‚

I know, I can see lamps getting maybe 6-7 maximum at OT.

In a normal week, I would keep him, but when im trying to defend this lead with 3 weeks to go, I dont really care about overall ranking, juts care about keeping my rival at bay.

By having VDV,Silva and Toure, I think il be covering all his potential differentials.

Cant make my mind up on it though.

Anyone else any thoughts on it?

I've seem some other people mention that they can kind of estimate their rivals transfers based on team value?

Hi tosey if you're still there... I think vdv home to blackpool would be captain material even in a single game week... so even if you think the man city game will be a 2 pointer, you can see those 2 points as a bonus. Also there's nothing to say he'll get nothing at city... 2 points is far from a certainty, especially if man city beat everton and play a weakened team/ players have cup final in the back of their minds.

Also, after Liverpool, they have a nove game at home to brum whose defence isn't even saving their blushes anymore.

In the same way I had to be persuaded to bring lampard in, I really think it'd be a mistake not to bring in vdv! Just wouldn't want to see you fall down the rankings from your great position if vdv does well and EVERYONE has captainied him.

      Djourou if he's fit
      Huth (goal threat)
      Luiz (also goal threat)

Carr first sub (dont think smalling will start, and even if he does it's against chelsea)

If Birmingham were playing well I'd start Carr though, since Newcastle aren't scoring much. But they seem pretty terrible away from home I think.

Main thing is, if they're approaching 100%, a price change is likely. If they're protected, I'm not exactly sure what it means except that the numbers don't seem accurate in these cases! I've seen surprises both ways.

If they are protected look at the MIN column. That's the likely lowest rise they will have if they were indeed protected.

The Max is if FPL decided not to protect them.

If their Max isn't looking like reaching 100% by the end of the day (look at today's increase), then they are unlikely to rise.

If their Min is very low but their Max is almost 100% it's a risk - depends on whether they were indeed protected or not.

Pretty happy with my team, (taking GW37-38 into account too of course).

    Any transfers for a hit?

    Foster (Begovic)
    Simpson Luiz Coleman
    Yaya Walcott Silva VDV(c)
    Odemwingie Rooney RVP

    Nani Terry Kelly (Bank: 0.0)

Decided to stick with Nani due to United's final 2 games
Decided to stick with Terry due to Chelsea's home game vs Newcastle in GW37.
