Despite slipping to defeat in their last couple of Premier League outings – and with nothing but pride left to play for, Bolton boss Owen Coyle is still adamant that his side are looking to finish the season strongly.

A predictable claim of course but, with fixtures against the Premier Leagueโ€™s biggest two underachievers since the turn of the year (SUN blp MCY), and then a Reebok clash against Manchester City – who may rotate having already achieved their Champions League status – Boltonโ€™s prospects look decent and their Fantasy assets remain worthy targets.

While Fantasy Managers ponder the availability of the prolific Daniel Sturridge up front, at the back youโ€™ll find Gary Cahill who has been a stand-out performer for the Trotters in recent seasons and has maintained that form over a difficult season for Bolton defensively. Cahill climbed to second spot in our Watchlist rankings earlier this week and is very much on the radar for the final three gameweeks.

An inevitable transfer target in the Summer, Cahill’s potential this season has been severely hindered by Boltonโ€™s inability to keep their sheet clean; Owen Coyleโ€™s side have kept just 5 shutouts all season. The situation could be due for change however, with Bolton squaring up to a couple of encounters that offer them the opportunity to improve that defensive record.

Sunderland are perhaps the team that every Manager wants to face at the moment; they have failed to score in 6 of their last 8 games and the side is riddled with serious injury problems. With no recognised strikers with any experience available, you have to fancy any opponent to keep a clean sheet against the Black Cats – they travel to the Reebok next.

Bolton’s clean sheet prospects continues over into the follow-up fixture against Blackpool who, for all their attacking verve and effort, have managed to score just 3 times over their last 5 Premier League fixtures. Clearly Bolton are one side offering the promise of at least one more clean sheet then โ€“ a rarity at this stage in the season. While Jussi Jaaskelainen is due to be recalled against Sunderland and is a consideration in goal, in front of him, Cahill stands head and shoulders above his team-mates from a Fantasy perspective.

As well as being renowned for first-rate defending, Cahill also exudes plenty of attacking potential. This season he has found the back of the net on 3 occasions and offers great aerial threat from set-pieces and corners. As can be seen over in the Membersโ€™ Area, Cahill has managed 14 attempt on target this season – only bettered by set-piece specialists and forward thinking full-backs Leighton Baines and Aleksandar Kolarov.

Indeed, Cahill himself has recently stated just how confident he is feeling at set-pieces as he looks to add to his season goal tally…

โ€œAs of the last month or two, I think Iโ€™m playing my best football of the season. Iโ€™d just like to add one or two more goals. Every time I go up for a corner or free-kick at the moment, I feel like I am going to score.โ€

If Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points are anything to go by, Cahill is the best defender in the league – accumulating the highest at 23 so far this term. In his last 4 outings he has been awarded 5 bonus points for his efforts and is clearly in some decent form going into the close season. Cahillโ€™s domination in the air and strength in the tackle within the Bolton back four will always catch the eye โ€“ if the Trotters do keep a clean sheet over the final three games, Cahill is almost guaranteed a Bonus return.

Thereโ€™s plenty of tabloid speculation surrounding his future at the club, but a possible move to Man City is inconsequential for Fantasy Managers right now. All that matters is that Cahill offers strong potential for returns at both ends of the field over the final games; potential that can be acquired for a fee of 5.5 in the FPL making Cahill a very worthy target for those looking beyond this weekendโ€™s double gameweek temptations.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Ha ha well call me crazy, but I'm probably getting him this week, to play each remaining game. I have 8.4 to spend and I'm getting bloody Denba Ba, a potentially not 100% fit forward for the team at the bottom of the table. Must be mad.

What do you think of these transfers:

    Luiz > Kolarov
    Adam > Modric

Others options to go are Barton or poss Coleman but I need enough to get Drogba in for next week.

Is Kolarov the best defensive option for Man City? Zabaleta / Lescott could also be shouts but concerned about rotation.

I'd keep Luiz for next week, so the 2nd option.

I'm not interested in the City defence this time around - Kolarov has flattered to deceive and I aint getting him in again. Rotation and playing the full 90 minutes are hazards that would apply to him just as much as Yaya and Silva.

Looking at your strikers have you considered Defoe? Reckon he will play vs. Blackpool and could be a high scorer and a potential captain. A good performance could keep him in vs. City.

But if you're set on VDV then I would drop Kuyt for now... all good things must come to an end.

Not a bad problem to have, as dropping any would be ok. Kuyt is the only one with form, but has fixtures and Carroll's return against him. Downing has a good fixture this week, but is the weakest of the three. Nani depends on what result they'll get against Chelsea. So I'd say keep Kuyt, and with the other two work through who you would bench and play from your team for each week and let that guide you.

Right, I'm 40-odd points behind, and looking for some good differentials to gain some ground over dgw, Current squad is:

    Foster/Beg
    Kolarov, Luiz, RJ, Huth, Ivan
    Adam, VdV, Silva, Walters, Kuyt
    Roon, RVP, Zamora

Rival has made 2 transfers and likely brought in Yaya/Silva plus one other and wil captain VdV.

Any suggestions, thinking of bringing in Yaya for Kuyt and Defoe for Zamora. Any other ideas for drastic catchup?!

I am a sore previous owner of Kolarov, so I guess I am not the most partial when it comes to advocating him. I'm doing Djourou to G. Cahill - I would give him a go.

There's not a mass of good midfield options out there this week tbh. Perhaps bench Meireless and play Barton and look at your options next week.

I'd play Begovic over Foster and Huth over R. Johnson.

Nani and Dzeko should come out (how much appreciable gametime will the latter player have?). Nolan may be worth a punt this week. Modric may give you bonus points and an outside chance of a goal but then you are lumbered with two Spurs players v Liverpool.

      Odem/Sturridge in for Dzeko?

Stick or twist with Demspey this week? Don't see Fulham scoring more than 1.

Thanks, but I don't want any more City players. Dempsey > Nolan and bench Fat Frank might be the way forward.

        Hi Bob

Who would you bench instead, although Sturridge might not be fit anyway?

O'hara will certainly feature in coming weeks even if I do bench him this GW.

        Cheers.

Interesting comments from President Obama there, urging the citizens of the world to unite under the banner of peace, freedom and Pavlyuchenko for the double gameweek.

In fairness- as they say -he's only 5.8 million. Didn't realise he was that cheap. If I were desperate, losing, short sighted and stuck for cash I might look at him. I might still sneak him in on Saturday morning...

Better to keep hold of Dempsey or Adam (for future gws - whomever I keep will be benched this week anyway)?

Partly depends whether you would play them each week or not. I would rather have Adam, but I'll probably only play him GW37. I will be slightly nervous about benching him this week though, as I do think he's gonna get back some form and go for it. Blackpool need him to, and he needs to remind everyone why they want to buy him, since his post-January-transfer-window-closing sulk.

Yes, I'd probably play him for gw 37 and then get rid of him for gw 38.

Yer old da's up nearly in the top 2000 now, expecting to climb higher before season end for a semi-respectable finish dented by poor luck mid-season. Anyway, transfers have been made, what you think?

Had to get rid of the two Fulham boys who done me proud two weeks back, horrible run-in they've got.

    Hangeland to Kolarov
    Dempsey to Silva

    Giving me a team of:

    Foster
    Baines, Kolarov, Walker
    Nani, VDV(c), Silva, Toure
    Rooney, RVP, Odemwingie

Bench: Begovic, Luiz, Adam, R. Johnson

Toyed with no points hit, but with this being a double and Stoke at home next GW decided it was worth it, plus the fact no attractive fixture for any of my bench contingent and all out of form (Luiz apart). Doubt of course remains about whether Citeh will have tied up 4th spot by next GW, but took the plunge anyway.

Yer old da's good eh? Very (italics) good. B-)
