Done and dusted. Despite a muscular second-half effort, Chelsea were simply outplayed at Old Trafford. The Premier League engraver can start practicing his lettering now.

United’s devastating opening, established by a typically slotted finish from “Little Pea” set the tone for a first-half showing that stamped on any plans Chelsea may have had to assume control. The second from Nemanja Vidic exploited the superiority; Frank Lampard’s second-half prod amounted to a nice little bonus for his Fantasy owners, but little else.

Congratulations must go to United on a commanding display but the neutrals amongst us will need to move on swiftly. Fantasy Managers must now consider the impact of today’s “settlement”.

United will go to Blackburn next weekend requiring just a point. Chelsea must go full tilt against Newcastle and hope for the best. Gameweek 37 is still on then – rotation shouldn’t be a major factor.

While next weekend looks stable enough, the final gameweek is now in flux. United will face Blackpool at Old Trafford, six days before they take on Barcelona in the Champions League final. Ian Holloway’s side will surely need a result from the match – United will likely just require a clean bill of health.

Owners of Wayne Rooney now have a major dilemma. Feasibly, Rooney could help spank Blackpool’s behind on their way to the Championship, but it seems unlikely. Given the circumstances, we seem set to witness the languid talents of Dimitar Berbatov against the Tangerines; possibly for the last time in a United shirt. Rooney will likely play some part but it could be just to soak up the applause and parade the trophy. Counting on Rooney to earn minutes and fetch returns looks a risk. With no goals or assists in his last four league games, the decision may already have been made.

We need to assess the United situation carefully – if Ferguson’s lineup against Blackpool can be anticipated, there’s every chance that there will be heavy profits on offer. Berbatov could even be a factor, Nani may come back into the equation. While United effectively ended the title race with today’s performance, they’ve thrown us Fantasy Managers a late curveball on our own quest for glory. It’s far from over around these parts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Morning/ evening if anyone's there...

I've got about 6.5 million in the bank, so money is no object... think I'm bringing in malouda for bale this week.

If you could have ANY attacking player for gw38, who would it be?

Thinking og gambling on nani, since he's now a 'fringe' player with a point to prove. But 'gamble' is the key word there!

Any more transfers needed than A Young -> Lampard??

You should be playing 343 or 352. Luiz is probably useless FPL wise. Without your rivals team any advice is useless as your rival might have that player.

It's hard to make up ground when half your team is common. The defenders will only score 6 max in most situations so having 2 useless strikers is pointless. I am afraid the chances of you winning are extremely slim. Get Drogba over Lampard imo.

Agreed. I need something like a Drogba(c) hat-trick to have any chance.

A Young & Zamora -> N'Zogbia & Drogs (4 points) would leave the likely differentials being:

Me: Foster, Kolarov, N'Zogbia, Silva, Walcott, Drogba(c)
Him: Szezsney, R Johnson, Nani, Larsson, Bent, Wingie

More hits required or is the best I can do?

Those differentials look ok. I'd stick with just the 4 point hit this week and see how you go. You're going to need a bit of luck - and will probably need to make a bold selection for captain next week!

I agree with TM, since you are playing catch-up you are probably best to play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. I would go with the transfers you suggested above (A Young & Zamora -> N’Zogbia & Drogba) and then bench Welbeck, Kelly and Baines.

          Good luck.

Yeah, it's definately risky - but if you're chasing a lead you need to be prepared to gamble! Baines might be lucky and get another penalty - but Chelsea are probably more likely than Everton to get a cleansheet this week.

50 points behind means you'll be scared of lots of things, but I guess you need to make your team as different as possible! Every bench player should be either injured, or in your rivals team, even if your team looks worse.

To be honest you'll probably just end up 60 behind but you have to take the risk at this stage!

Then I'm left with the question of whether I should bench balotelli or yaya in gw37! I'd hate to bench balotelli the day he scores an explosive hat-trick, which is definitely a possibility.

Thanks AB, it helped that the rival dropped ranks, so obviously he did not do as good as what he was earlier. Patience is sometime key. I see people overboarding on the diffential strategy. Always get a team that one thinks will score most, does not matter much if rival has those players or not. ATleast that works when there are sufficient time to catch up. Last 2 weeks and one has to try diffenently

yesterday's formation is the one thats gonna play barcelona, i think SAF will rest againt blackburn away and maybe only play the big guys (rooney vidic and oshea) and avoid injuries with their agressive game and play a strong side against blackpool as a training session as the game will be more open and free flowing, plus he wants to win and celebrate it with style at home.
no need to rest exept maybe giggs because he needs the lads to keep their focus and ther have 1 week to rest which is enough

ill stay away from their players till the end as it will look like charity with the likes of fletcher owen berba and scholes and even kuschack will get honorary runs

If Rooney had made that tackle, can you imagine the hype?! But in this case, I think it may well be forgotten. The FA won't want to readdress a mistake they made unless there is enough attention drawn to it.

Apart from a select few, enarly every united player knows his place in the starting lineup v barcelona is far from secure. If Nani or Berbatov get picked, expect them to be fighting for their place in a champions league final.

Plus, blackpool will likely need a win, which means they'll be attacking like crazy - Always likely to concede a few when they do that.

In fact i think i've just convinced myself to get nani/ berbaotv rather than rooney!

man its blackburn ur talking about.... the best striker is a center back and their best scorer is a 33 year old striker that noone took him for free last season, they have a playmaker that plays 1 game and gets rested for 4 and a coach who never coached a team with players that got over puberty until this season. plus their diouf cnt play because hes on loan from manutd and santa cruz well he's santa cruz

did u watch the westham game? even their coach (kean) admitted they were lucky to draw

vidic and smalling will play to take care of samba's freekick theat and problem solved

Blakburn have 27 points at home
                  United have 24 points away

It's far from a done deal and a complacent attitude like that is dangerous.

At home to the in-form, steaming, all-conquering Wanderers? 😕

Cap'n'cy revolves around Suarez, Drogba, Lampard this week imo. I just see goals in the CHS/NEW game. Not sure if Drogba will start which is a problem.

It's just like picking Messi or Ronaldo in UCL. FPL is alot better now due to it. Dead teams don't go as well this way either.

well it was different and was less reliant on luck like this season, team value was of big importance as the player value was reflecting the outcome.

u had 7 top player to choose from and u can only afford 3, this is where the game was played, this season it was the injury list that picked up the team sheet, drogba and tevez at the start of the season when rooney rvp and torres wher out, then the opposite later, lampard gerrard were out so nasri nani were the obvious choice,
no trust me it was more fun back then.... or maybe i got old for this shit

22 points behind in my league, 1st place has suarez (c), dempsey and hangeland playing tonight.

Thinking of getting drogba or lampard in against newcastle, who is the better option and should i captain them?

I think that unless you have a big lead there isn't much point picking United players.

The threat of rotation is too great in my opinion. I said yesterday that guys like N'Zogbia, Hitzlsperger and O'Hara are probably the way to go now. They're all fighting for their Premier League lives right now.

Players on teams with nothing to play for are just going to go through the motions now

I was thinking of buying malouda...

but my closest rival has lampard (i don't) and will surely captain him. It would be pretty stupid of me to do anything other than buy him and captain him too.

He also has hernandez so maybe i'll just get him in for 38 and we can fail together (undoubtedly allowing the third place guy to claw back his 81 points!)

hmmm, just had a look at the league table and it looks pretty gloomy.

If this was a poker game, Kean and Ferguson would be the sharks on a table full of fish.. They know the best way to succeed is to stay out of each other's way and take everyone else's chips.

They don't need to say anything, or even look at each other, but they both no the best strategy.

What I'm saying is, it could well be an uneventful, boring draw. It suits both teams perfectly.

(Luckily the blackburn fans might have something to say about this)

There are a group of 6-7 teams who concede the most shots on target (because they're not very good)

and he's the best keepr of that bunch!

I guess, maybe, birmingham's style also encourages shots from outside the box? Could be a factor but I don't know. (Would explain why hart was also great last season)

yeah bit of a silly rule because he might have known it was a foul, but didn't see how danegrous it was.

Guess they have to limit retrospective action, but i think there should be exceptional cases.

          It worked.
