With the previous nine fixtures in gameweek 36 failing to return a single clean sheet, there were concerns that Fulham and Liverpool would play out a 0-0 stalemate. Liverpool had other plans however – they continued a barnstorming run of form under Kenny Dalglish, smashing five past the home side to chalk up 17 goals in the last 5 games. Fulham grabbed a brace to make it a poor week for defenders, with only tonight’s Man City vs Spurs clash left for any chance of a shutout. Here’s the notes from last night’s game…

Luis Suárez
The Uruguayan continues to dazzle since his January move, with another outstanding display for Liverpool in the Craven Cottage rout. With 65 points in his 11 appearances, he’s just shy of 6pts per game, a phenomenal return for his debut half-season. Suárez’s game is looked kindly upon by the Bonus judges, picking up 14 already. As far as Fantasy Managers are concerned, the only aspect missing in his game is penalty-kick duties.

As Kenny Dalglish acknowledged after the match:

“Suárez was fantastic. He was running as hard at the end as at the beginning. Even in our wildest dreams we couldn’t have thought he’d settle as well as he has done. He has graced the pitch every time he has stepped on it“.

Opposite number Mark Hughes also joined the Suárez fanclub in his summing up…

“I don’t think our guys have been up against him too much at international level, so it was a new experience for them and they’ll learn from it…He was always mobile, always in little pockets of space. Maybe we allowed him too much time and never really dictated to him. It was always the other way round and when good players have time and space, they can hurt you, which he certainly did. He was outstanding tonight.”

We were tracking Suárez in third place in our Watchlist rankings behind Peter Odemwingie and Robin Van Persie going into the weekend – all three came good to continue their outstanding run of form.

Maxi and Kuyt
As Suárez led the Fulham back-line a merry dance, the Liverpool pair continued their incredible recent scoring streaks. With Andy Carroll sitting on the sidelines, Maxi hit a hat-trick for his second 20+ FPL point return in three weeks, while Kuyt scored for the fifth game in a row, and has returned 84 FPL points in the last eight gameweeks.

Dalglish also gave positive news on his other big-name January signing, suggesting Andy Carroll only has bruising, offering hope the big striker may come back for the remaining two games (TOT,avl). Carroll’s return would see Kuyt move back into midfield, with Maxi favourite to return to the bench, a sign of an improving strength in depth at Anfield. In normal circumstances, Dalglish would surely be reluctant to tinker with his lineup and re-introduce Carroll. The opportunity to see the big number nine and Suarez working in tandem up front once more is likely to tempt him to shuffle however.

Fulham Already on Holiday?
Mark Hughes’ side have one of the best home records in the top-flight this season and came into this game with 6 wins, a draw and 6 clean sheets in the last seven at Craven Cottage. Mid-table safety with just a couple of games to go, however, can sometimes lead to lethargy and Fulham were deservedly three-nil down at the break after a poor display. The hosts only started playing in the second 45, when Bobby Zamora replaced Simon Davies, and at least matched Liverpool for goals after the break. To make matters worse, 5 bookings dented their hopes of Europa League qualification through the Fair Play League.

Mark Hughes will want a response after this thrashing but Fulham face two difficult last fixtures (bir, ARS) before the season closes. Fantasy Managers holding on to Fulham’s assets – notably Clint Dempsey, will likely be considering their options going into Saturday’s deadline.

Bit of advice needed please. Current team is:

    jaskalaainen (stockdale)

    samba, lescott, walker, luiz, smalling

    lamps, vdv, yaya, silva, nani

    ba, rvp, suarez

best change to make this week?

I think I'll leave my defence as it is, but would like to get in Adam/hitz/Parker/nzog into midfield. Who's best to get rid of? Was thinking yaya?

    Rest of team look ok?

Great front line. I'd get rid of Nani or VDV, free up some funds. Adam or Hitzelsperger are your best options.

You have Ba so less important to get Hitz/Parker.

Adam only really has a good fixture this week, Man U away on final day will be tough.

I would say swap Nzog for Yaya. Rest of the team is solid and spread across the good fixtures.

Think I will probably bring in Adam or nzog for yaya. Want to keep vdv and nani. I think nani will play both remaining games, Valencia will probably play in the final v barca.

        Leanng towards Adam I think.

Is it worth getting rid of VDV for NZog this week? Im thinking to keep him and save the transfer as Spurs still have something to play for and the Brum game on the last day could be a goal fest.

I'm thinking no transfers and having 2 for the final week.
    What do you think?

    Foster (Begovic)
    Terry Luiz Coleman (Kelly, Simpson)
    Yaya Silva Nani Walcott (VDV)
    Odem Rooney RVP

I'm 49 points clear of 2nd so should be ok. He has Kuyt and Defoe who I'd bring in if I was going down the route of trying to match more of his players to protect the lead. But quite liking The midfield/attack due to their games.

I honestly think you could do with freshening up that backline, Luiz is a shoe in to be benched this weekend to give Alex a run and Ancelotti blamed his substitution on a "niggle", therefore no face lost by Luiz if he is benched or rested at the weekend.

I like the rest of your team, I have same front 3 and Ya Ya, Silva and VDV, not sure about Rooney though, really not sure if he misfires again this weekend (in pure fantasy terms of course, he has been playing well), then its a bit of a waste holding off on the likes of Suarez who is in great form, or even a punt on Drogba, or guys that will play the last two games instead of one

I really like that hits versus no hits question. I think you need to be an exceptional zen-like person to make a policy of no hits work. For a regular guy, you need to be flexible. When results are wild like they were in the autumn I think it's best to bunker down and take no hits. When they become predictable, it's maybe better to be aggressive.

Well point hits when DGWs are on the horizon, they're generally even more worthwhile. It's not often that 8 point hits are worth it, or, taking a hit for a defender.

its all about balance IMO. For example GW36 I think a hit is fine however looking at GW37 I thinks hits are a bit excessive.

At the start of the season hits can pay off buy getting players (mainly season keepers) that are going to fly up in value.

Ha, you'd think so right? I made a 20 point 6 transfer hit earlier in the season to reverse a trend of 5 out the last 6 weeks being red arrows. It wasn't even like my team was THAT bad.

Utd & tot are the only teams from the top half of the table with a good home fixture in gw38. Utd will put reserves out so that leaves just spurs. No chance I'm selling vdv. gw38 was the main reason I brought in modric for the dgw instead of hitzelsperger (Damn you modric 👿 ) I'm guessing most of you, like me have a great team for gw37 and a shyte one for gw38? Morning all. Should be 50 or so points clear of rival after tonight. Looking for advice on how best to close out the season now.

    My front 8 are

    Adam, Lamps, Young, Yaya, VDV
    RVP, Bent (zamora).

    His front 8 are

    VDV, Kuyt, Osman, Malouda, (Meireles)
    RVP, Hernandez, Pavlyuchenko.

What should I do for the last 2 gameweeks. Match his dangermen like Kuyt and Malouda?

Which midfield looks the stronger from here till the end?

I'd get rid of Bent for someone like Ba, Fletcher or Odemwingie. Otherwise I think you're fine. 50 points would be an amazing gap. Me and my rival have been swapping the lead for the last few weeks. He's now 6 points ahead but I can still catch him.

I'd get rid of Young and Bent (wahey!), and that's about it. N'Zog/Nani/Malouda and Suarez would be good transfers, depending on what you can afford.

With two weeks to go and with doubts over whether he will be risked in the final game, is it finally time for me to forget my allegiances and ditch Mr Wazzer Rooney?

I like the look of Suarez, still hasn't had that explosive game, Carroll could also come back firing, also like Drogba this weekend (but am already doing VDV OUT Lampard IN).

So Rooney owners? What you doing? I am sick of 1 point returns, and despite being close to one or two on Sunday, it seems a good move to bring someone in who will play 2 with a good fixture this weekend as oppossed to keeping Rooney for 1 week

Is anyone else thinking about getting N'Zog in and benching VDV this week? Is it worth it or should I save the transfer for the final week?

I think taking a hit on a DGW is fine and I don't think it matters either if you take a hit on a week where most of the big sides have easier fixtures as they should reward you anyway so the hit won't affect your score too badly if you get it wrong. Taking a hit on a week where for example Man Utd and Arsenal are playing eachother and Chelsea have a tricky away game or whatever is difficult to pull off.

I can't really remember any of my point hits this season come off instantly, only Ashley Young against Blackburn and Rooney in United's double, apart from that I doubt most have.

This is true but hits can also be about a week or two in advance so they may not need to pay off instantly for them to be worthwhile.

There is no better feeling in fantasy football than you taking out the 1 point player for a guy who gets a goal and an assist and BP's or even better, where the guy you happen to taken out fails a late fitness test, or gets injured in training, that feeling of luck is what makes it all worthwhile sometimes.

I was so close to taking a 4 point hit for Rooney OUT Suarez IN after that West Ham game, I would have been 21 points better off right now including Rooney's points and the 4 points dropped, painful. Shoulda, woulda, coulda!

+1 I've been rewarded so much recently for my hits, so instead of asking people whether they're a good idea or not I'm just trusting my instincts! I'll get stung eventually but might be able to close out the year with 7 green arrows at this rate 🙂

My opinion would be to keep Rooney one more game mate, I know that's terrible luck considering you would've moved him to Suarez, but he's got to come up good now shirley?

I agree completely with your first paragraph Johnny, those calls are what make the game worthwhile.

However as regards the Rooney over Suarez thing you are looking at it from results orientated perspective which is wrong. You can only think about whether you made the right decision at the time, and ignore the results. Based on the information you had (form, fixtures etc) Rooney was the right choice.

I don't think any perspective is wrong, and ultimately, I made the wrong choice as Suarez has outscored Rooney by quite some margin, at the time, fixtures and form indicated Rooney, fair enough, but I made the wrong choice and there is no other way to look at it in my view.

In any event, it's all well and good for me to say I was that close to making the move, anyone can make that sort of claim, I didn't, so no point me blowing on about it now!

    Hi,

I was Considering doing Bent to Drogs,

But after reading a few comments, would a better idea be to do Jarvis to Lamps then nxt week,

    Bent to Berba?

Bent to Suarez...bench VDV or Nani
    or...
    VDV to Kuyt, bench Bent.

narrow it down...best defender, best mid...etc.

      too broad a question.

I think RVP and Lamps have the potential to score big next week but maybe not the last week.

For the last week a man utd squad player like Gibson or Anderson could get a massive haul. Its a big could though.

          Ha, nicely put indeed Jonty!

The thing is though, if Liverpool spend a few bob in the summer – which they will – Kuyt’s place in the XI will be under serious threat let alone being a fantasy option. Strike while the iron is hot I guess – And I missed my chance. I’m too stubborn to buy him for the last two!

my rival has Kuyt...and we go into next week with him 1pt behind me. We already have seven players the same. If I get Kuyt in it just seems too late and a lame transfer.

The sexy move is to get Suarez in and go for glory or bust.

I presume Fergie will stick with Rio and Vidic so Smalling is unlikely to play, and may only come on for a few minutes so no to him.

Flanagan at least will start and Liverpool have been formiddable at home - Play.

Kolarov - possible clean sheet - Play.

Walker - attacking potential (more so than Meite anyway) - Play.

Have to agree, one of the most over hyped bands of all time.

Just as an aside I went to see Band of Horses recently and thought they were awesome!

Saw them at the height at their powers in 2002 at Glastonbury festival - just before they released A Rush Of Blood To The Head . They were utterly awesome but I wouldn't bother these days, they stopped making decent records a long time ago.

Thks for feedback. Coldplay is visiting SA in October 2011 for 2 shows. It's in the same week as my b-day and they are releasing their new album the week of the concert so I'm tempted.

Sneijder won't play the deep role and will be wasted there.

JP has a good point, Rooney has been our CAM this season, we would have to play a 4-3-3 to make the most of Sneijder with Rooney and Sneijder behind Hernandez, but then where do you play Nani/Valencia or Park, Carrick/Giggs and one of Anderson or Fletcher will be the 3 man centre midfield next season.

Then again, Rooney is great as an out and out striker too and Sneijder is a much better CAM than Rooney. For the record I still disagree Rooney has been playing CAM for you, he's just a striker dropping down a bit.

He's not just been dropping down a bit, he's been dropping down a lot. Pains me to admit it, but the Rooney/Hernandez partnership is working excellently, and I think that the role that Rooney is playing at the moment suits him better. He's probably playing better football at the moment than he ever was last season as the spearhead of the United attack. He just isn't scoring the same number of goals, so it's receiving the same plaudits.

Agreed that he's playing great football now and that it's working, I'm not fooled by the fact that he's scored fewer goals. I just still think you could fit Sneijder in a proper midfield role and still getting great stuff from Rooney played further forward but with some freedom.

Also likely to me that Hernandez will have a harder time next season.

I wasn't saying that you personally are being fooled by the lack of goals! I was just referring to how the Rooney hype is a lot less deafening than last season at the moment.

May be just me, but I can't see the three of them fitting into an effective formation. How effective is Sneijder when playing a deeper role?

It's a good observation about the Rooney hype. I agree about it. Don't know how effective Sneijder is as a deep lying play maker, my guess is that he can do it well anywhere.

you only need one of Carrick/Anderson/Fletcher to pair Sneijder in the middle where there has been a creative gap. Enough on flanks not in middle

Sneijder links up play, Rooney links up play in his current roll, unless Rooney is up front alongside Hernandez I can't see it working, but who knows

If djourou and luiz are dropped my defence this weekend will be r.johnson, walker and simpson. Do people think it would be best to upgrade luiz to a. Cole or just leave the defence and transfer bent to drogs which means benching vdv?

VDV OUT Malouda IN, I think Chelsea could still finish strong even despite the disappointment at the weekend, and I fancy a steamrolling effort from Chelsea this weekend, alot of players playing for next season, new contracts (Malouda), potential suitors (Lampard and Drogba) and pride (Terry).

Good team then, play your front three, Adam/Lampard/Malouda/Ya Ya and Baines/Kolarov and Luiz.

If news is negative on both Huth and Luiz playing though, you may have to just do a defender transfer to field 3. Alex or a Liverpool defender is a good bet.

I was initially thinking Malouda this week but now Chelsea are basically playing for nothing I can see Torres starting. If El Nino is up alongside Drogba that could change the situation. Best to hear what Ancelottery has to say is his press conference, he occasionally gives away some clues.

I've thought about this idea in the past, and I reckon it's a good one. The site should have a weekly poll for us to vote on what transfer(s) to make each week.

Someone, may have been Gargamel, also had the idea of having a mini league where each team is co-managed by 4/5 people from here, I reckon that could work quite well too.
