As we count down to the final deadline of the season, it’s time for another round of ‘Differential’ picks and it’s all about the one-week wonders. None of these picks are ever going to top the Captain’s poll but if you’re happy to take a risk or two, then there is nothing sweeter than an unexpected win. Can you imagine the look on your rivals face as your Anderson (c) pick helps you snatch mini league victory with a 93rd minute winner? He who dares…

Anderson

As entertaining as they are to watch, there is a very good reason why Blackpool are battling relegation. 74 goals conceded in 37 games is an average of two goals a game, which is quite frankly awful. In contrast, Man United have scored 74 goals in their 37 games. Statistics can often be misleading but in this case, they’re so blatant that it’s very hard to see United getting less than a couple of goals here, and Anderson could well be in the mix.

Alex Ferguson confirmed on Friday that Anderson will definitely be involved, and logic would suggest that he will line up as an attacking midfielder playing off the main striker. The game against Bolton last weekend demonstrated what can happen playing 4-4-2 against Blackpool; Bolton were overrun in midfield and it was only a tactical shift at half time that allowed Bolton back into the game. Ferguson will surely go with three in the middle then, probably as a 4-5-1 with Anderson behind Berbatov or perhaps 4-3-3 with him on the wing. Either way, he will play a key role in their attacking play and looks a great option for one week only at just 5.5.

Younes Kaboul

After their surprisingly easy victory over Liverpool last week, Spurs go into this afternoon’s match against Birmingham knowing that a win will be enough to guarantee European football next year. They’ve struggled defensively this season, but the clean sheet at Anfield last weekend will give them confidence going into what should (on paper at least) be a fairly routine encounter over a side that has won just twice on their travels all season.

Dawson is probably the obvious pick from the Tottenham back line but Younes Kaboul also offers a decent alternative if funds are tight, and his current role at full-back should see him get involved in the attacking play from wide areas considering Birmingham’s usual tactics of playing a narrow midfield.

Brett Emerton

Blackburn go into their final game of the season against Wolves with the threat of relegation still a very real possibility for both sides, and whichever way the result goes, we can expect an open game with plenty of chances. Brett Emerton might well be worth a punt if you are looking to free up some funds to use elsewhere, and with a goal and an assist in his last two games, he looks a bargain at just 4.2. The Australian veteran has hit a rich streak of form recently and Blackburn manager Steve Kean was full of praise for him this week…

“Brett is playing really well, not only is he chipping in with important goals, he is also going past people and putting dangerous crosses in”.

The OPTA stats back up this observation; he is the leading Blackburn midfielder in all of the key areas over the last two weeks – attempts on goal, key passes (assist attempts) and crosses into the box so with an ownership of just 0.9%, he could be a decent differential, especially if rivals have any Wolves players in their side.

Shola Ameobi

With Newcastle and West Brom both sitting comfortably in mid-table, lazy TV pundits are bound to trot out the old ‘planning the summer holiday’ routine but the truth is, the dead rubber matches like this one can often surprise. Both teams are in a good run of form and a potential ninth place is up for grabs with a win here. When you also consider that Newcastle have scored four or more goals six times at home this season, there is the potential of a big return.

Shola Ameobi has been blighted with injuries for the majority of his career, and although he has managed to avoid any serious problems this season, he’s been a bit too unreliable to merit any serious investment from Fantasy Managers. Long-term potential is irrelevant now though, so if you’re looking for a one-week punt on a striker, Ameobi will be on penalties and could prove to be a steal at just 4.1.

Best of the Rest

Almost making it this week was Stoke winger Jermaine Pennant, who has returned 31 points in his last three games. He faces a late fitness test but could still be worth a punt if you can handle the risk. Newcastle defender Steven Taylor also looks like a good pick having scored in his last two games, and is a good cheap option at 3.9 along with namesake Ryan. Finally, Zavon Hines could earn another start for West Ham having played 90-minutes last week, and will fancy his chances of scoring against Sunderland as the Hammers look to cheer the Upton Park faithful.

    Rethink

4 pt hit Silva to Anderson, Odem to Berbs

Gives me: Lamps, Hitz, Kuyt, Adam, Anderson, Suarez, RVP, Berbs (c)

    But no N'Zog.

    Thoughts?

Don't like losing either of them really.

Suarez could do damage against a leaky Villa who have conceded at home all season.

Baines has been the scourge of Chelsea in the league and cup this season, so this match-up seems to favour him.

OK lads, at the risk of becoming totally boring I'm going to repeat what I said a couple of times yesterday. I'm also going to post it again this afternoon because this is too good to miss.

Dimitar Berbatov is 25/1 to score a hat trick today with William Hills - absolutely incredible odds in the unique circumstances. Don't forget the guy's already scored 3 hat tricks in his last 9 starts at Old Trafford this season and might have got a 4th if he hadn't been brought off early against Sunderland. When he gets his eye in he's ruthless.

Paddy Power, unlike WH is well aware of what might develop; they're offering only 9/1.

Win, lose or draw this is THE bet of the season for me. Don't miss out!

    I have
    VDV nzog,adam, silva, lamps

    Rival has
    Malouda, VDV, maxi, adam, siIva

I’ll have 11.3 in the bank after VDV is sold. Thinking O’Hara but will he score??? I’m really tempted by Sessegnon, he’s being played out of position and will west ham lie down

Hey Mucky, i like the look of that squad, especially the cheeky anderson inclusion. Who are your 3 subs currently?

I'd probably do Drogba > Tevez too, as i can't see Drogba starting, even if he does, his potential for points is low due to torres starting too.

Defence looks alright, i can't see many clean sheets today, so there's no need to risk a hit for a defender trade out.

    Subs barton,luiz,djourou

I've already brought in berbatov for rooney, any ideas on who else I should ship out, chasing a 12 point lead

Looking to take a 4 point hit on VDV for Nzogbia

Berbs needs to score goals to win the golden about over Tevez. However, I don't feel that Berbs performs well under pressure.

Transfer done, but who to bench:

    Baines Kolorov Luiz Walker Kelly

    Adam N'Zogbia Nani Lampard Yaya

    Berbatov RVP Hoillett

At the minute have Walker Hoillett and obv. Kelly on bench

    Are these right decisions?

and who to captain....have had a feeling about Adam(c) all week...crazy?

I agree, was just a bit dumbfounded there for a sec

Will Luiz play? It's really bench one from Walker Lolorov Luiz?

i'd go with RVP as the safe option, then Tevez, and a cheeky punt on Adam if looking for differential

Currently have a forward line of RVP, Suerez & Berbatov. Worth a 4pt hit to bring in Tevez for Suerez? I'm currently 30pts clear in my mini league. Thanks in advance.

Toss a coin on it, let fate decide. Suarez could rip Villa apart where as Tevez needs the goals for city to get champo league certainty and his golden boot. He is also playing an out of form Bolton side.

I'd not think so, Suarez could do well this week. Take a look at Tezez's history, he's not got double figures two weeks in a row before.

My mids and forward are as follows:

Adam, Z'Zogbia, Kuyt, Nani & yaya
    Tevez, Berbatov & RVP.

Who shall i put on the bench as first sub ?
    Nani or yaya ?
Currently benching yaya, but not sure how much Nani will play ?

    Advise appreciated.

If Nani does play he gets points, if he doesn't - nothing lost. I'd start NAni with Yaya first sub if that's my team.

    Do I take out
    Odemwingie, Van Persie and Vidic
    For
    Tevez, Fletcher and Dawson
    for a 8 pt hit

    or

    Odem, VP, Vidic and Nani
for Tevez, Berb, Yaya and Dawson
    with a 12 pt hit

5 pts behind leader of mini league.
    Any help welcome 🙂

no. It's madder to sell a fit, starting forward for a hit to get him.

doing that you basically give that player a 1 goal head start

    H2H rival's team:

    Sczezny, Harper
    Luiz, Hangeland, Samba, Carr, Kolarov
    Adam, Nani, VDV, Maxi, Brunt
    RVP, Odemwingie, Sturridge

She has made 2 transfers. Presumably Odem & VDV out. I'm guessing Berbs & N'Zogbia perhaps in?

    My team:

    Al-Habsi (Foster)
Coloccini, Baines, Da Costa (Luiz, Salcido)
    Silva, VDV, Toure, O'Hara (Adam)
    Berbs, Suarez, RVP

One free transfer, VDV to who?

Nani or N'Zogbia seem the most likely candidates. Modric is snooping around too.

i agree with those 2 options - nani is the riskier of the 2, but also more likely to get a really big haul.

Anyway with all respect your rival's a girl. Do me a favour love!

She's just who I happen to be facing in H2H league this week. Money is on the line bro!

I'm 3rd, she's 4th. If either of us win, though, we could potentially finish 1st and score $300.

Anybody else think Nani will start?

Valencia seems to be Fergie's Champ League pick, and with Park surely in the team to face Barca along with Giggs and Fletcher/Carrick, I can see Nani playing today and Valencia being on the bench.

I have Rooney/Nani but not convinced with Tevez either. Bolton have won 5 of their last 6 at home. Poor form away, yes, but no push overs at home.
