The curtain may have dropped on the 2010 season but Fantasy Managers will already be looking to next term and assessing likely targets. Our Scout Notes switch their sights then, focusing on the players and trends that will stir interest as we contemplate our summer break. What summer break?

Anderson
The midfielder continued his impressive form when played behind a lone striker; Anderson excelled in the role in the recent Champions League Semi Final against Schalke and yesterday saw him grab a goal (his first in the league all season) an assist and the three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points for a 13 point haul, fully justifying his selection in the Scout Picks squad and Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differential” article. Can Anderson flourish and find a regular starting role in Alex Ferguson’s midfield? Paul Scholes is likely to be the key factor here – with Scholes facing retirement, Anderson looks the most likely to step into the breach, although a new midfield arrival in the summer is also a strong possibility. Anderson’s form and role in the United camp will need monitoring in the pre-season.

Joleon Lescott
The Man City centre-half has started to show the form that made him a Fantasy favourite a couple of seasons back at Everton, with his second goal in as many games in the 2-0 win at Bolton. In the absence of Kolo Toure, Lescott has been given the game time to establish an understanding with Vincent Kompany at the heart of City’s defence and his eye for goal combined with City’s clean sheet capability could make him a decent pick come next term – if he can retain his starting role of course.

Charlie Adam
Adam’s free-kick at Old Trafford saw him finish as second-top overall in FPL this season, an outstanding return for a player initially priced at just 5.0. With Blackpool now relegated, the race will be on for his signature in the close season. If Adam does pop up in the Premier League next term, whether he remains a crucial Fantasy buy will be much dependant on his set-piece and penalty-kick returns; will any new side allow him to take the same number of corners and free-kicks to the same extent he has at Blackpool?

Robin Van Persie
Another goal for Van Persie at Fulham yesterday means that since the turn of the year, he has scored 18 goals in 18 games for the Gunners, failing to find the net in just five of those matches. Add in four assists and 27 Bonus Points and that’s an average of 7.8 per game. The Dutchman has shown that, when injury-free, he’s a near-essential asset for Fantasy Managers and will surely be one of the pre-season favourites when the time comes to select those 2011-12 FPL squads.

Bolton’s Decline
The wheels have come off in spectacular fashion towards the end of the season for Owen Coyle’s side; yesterday’s home defeat by Man City makes it five consecutive losses and, combined with the 5-0 FA Cup Semi Final by Stoke, cast a shadow over their great start to the campaign. In the end, Bolton sit just seven points off the relegation places and Coyle will need to invest in the summer, with Johan Elmander off on a free transfer and Daniel Sturridge heading back to parent club Chelsea. Talking of Sturridge, he will start the season with a suspension following his red card for a high tackle against City.

David “Junior” Hoilett
The Canadian was a real handful for Wolves at Molineux and his goal was Hoilett’s fourth in his last seven games for Rovers. Never given a chance under Sam Allardyce, credit must go to Steve Kean for showing faith in the youngster. He looks a real prospect for next season and will surely be an integral part of Kean’s side in the 2011/12 campaign. If FPL keep his price low, Hoilett could be a real steal.

Bobby Zamora
Four goals and four assists in ten games (with many of them from the bench) since returning from a broken leg has illustrated Zamora’s worth to Fulham. Injured in gameweek 4 and not returning until gameweek 29, he nevertheless ended up as top-scoring forward for the Cottagers and an injury-free season next time round under Mark Hughes should see Zamora a more-than-decent relatively low-priced shout.

Jermaine Beckford
A stunning strike handed Everton the home win over a fading Chelsea force. Beckford’s season has been patchy at best but, despite being in and out of David Moyes’ lineup, he returned eight goals over the season with three assists to his name. With Everton short on Summer funds, Beckford could well claim a place in Everton’s attack next term, although a shift to a regular 4-4-2 from David Moyes may well be required for Beckford to offer Fantasy Managers any real security.

Stephane Sessegnon
Playing as a makeshift striker, Sessegnon delivered his third goal in five games in Sunderland’s 3-0 win at relegated West Ham. Classed as a midfielder, the lightening-heeled signing from Paris St-Germain is all set to be a key figure next term and his shifts up front won’t have gone unnoticed by shrewd Fantasy Managers. Steve Bruce will surely bolster his forward line in the summer but the Sessegnon option is something we will need to be aware of as Bruce predicts big things from his January acquisition…

“We have to be patient and give him time to settle and get used to things…He’ll be a big hit for us next year, I’m convinced of that.”

Somen Tchoyi
Three-nil down to their hosts and without talisman Peter Odemwngie, West Brom looked dead and buried at St James’ Park but a hat-trick from Tchoyi earned the Baggies a point as the winger picked up 20 FPL points for his performance. Roy Hodgson hinted there will be plenty more to come from the player next season:

“It has taken me a while to get to know him but he is obviously going to be a very important figure for us next year. The more I have seen of him in training, the more I have got to see him in games, I have started to realise that he has got a special talent”.

Steven Taylor
An arm injury to Mike Williamson has allowed Taylor a chance to establish himself in the heart of Alan Pardew’s defence and he’s grabbed it with both hands. The centre-half has scored in each of his three subsequent appearances for Newcastle and has put forward a strong claim for a starting place alongside Fabricio Colccini regardless of Williamson’s availability.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

there is a page number in the address, for example for teams 51-100 it's second page:
      http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/stats.mc?stat=table&entry_id=732403&page=2&phase=1

just divide your rank by 50 and insert it as a page number

ok, how about this for hard-luck story:

I'm behind in fantasy nearly the whole year, only to make a storming comeback in last few weeks. On last GW I'm ahead by 5pts, we end up neck and neck before bonus points. I then check BPs and I win it 4 to 3 - so I'm a winner by 1pt. GET THE FOOK IN! All ready to gloat this morning then see that N'Zogbia's assist has been given to Figueroa. I lose the season by 2 feckin points.

Anyone else got a bigger hard luck story than that? For the rest of summer I'll be thinking about all those last minute decisions that would've changed it....

I was going to say the same thing. He was nowhere near the ball. I really hope they sort out their administrative issues next season. Waiting so long for the game to update yesterday was a joke, as well as waiting for Tevez's yellow card.

Good article. I'm not much for speculating over next season as so many unknown parameters will decide who I start with but I enjoyed this read. I think the articles this season have been better than ever before.

Finishing on rank 7784 myself, my second worst ever. I still feel it's a decent rank and I can't complain. I had no bad luck or anything like that, I just made some bad decisions. Will stick around until after the CL final I think to see what's going on.

Looking forward to picking my team for next season a lot already, bring it on!

Early days mate. Whether Jones stays or not is the big question; if I had to put money on it, I'd say he won't. Bothroyd has said he wants to stay, but he's out of contract and wants good money to do so. Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves. Bellamy also said he wants to stay, but he's a Man C player and I reckon we've got less chance of keeping him than Bothroyd (which is low anyway). Should have some money to spend, but it won't be insanse amounts and there's a bit of a worry where the Malaysian investors (who will pick the new manager) will get their advice from.

How are BC looking for the summer?

altho jones hasnt done a bad job it may be time for him to go, similar with us n danny wilson a few years back, just couldnt make that final step up

what happens with us all depends on maynard, if we get him signed we wont have alot to spend but if he goes we'll have a fair bit but need a lot of srengthening, interesting times as millens first pre season etc

        competitive league next year!

Quite pleased with who came down. Brum and West Ham will be hit hard financially and Blackpool will lose Adam, DJ, Vaughan, etc. If Blackpool are in Europe, it looks like their first match will be June 30, so that's not good for their preparation.

Glad Wolves stayed up, think they'd have walked the division if they'd come down.

Fine margins in FPL, that's for sure! When deciding over my keeper and defenders a couple of weeks ago it was Lescott or Hart and I chose Hart so I could bench Mingolet who then gets 9 points this week and we all know about Lescott 🙂

Oh well, season was over a few weeks ago hence 36 points worth of hits over the last 4 weeks.

Was a long hard season.....for me 🙂 But looking forward to the next one!

409th overall then, very happy with that.

However...I can't help thinking what could have been, choosing Kolarov over Lescott to cover my rival despite preferring Lescott 5 Gw's ago.

Benching Odem over Gyan 4 Gw's in a row.

    That's a 50+ point swing right there.

Let's not talk about the 4 pointer to do Carroll to Elmander (30 point swing).

So many players I haven't had all season. Vidic, Baines, Berbatov apart from this week, missed out on most of VdV's hauls and the best Nasri did for me was in the double.

Put far too much faith in Torres the first half of the season, captained him way too much. Tevez basically saved my whole season and going Lescott instead of Lolarov the last couple of weeks won my league for me.

Can't complain though, 15k in first full season! Aiming for 10k next year! 😀

I got a message from a mate of mine up north saying the Newcastle vs Chelsea game was gonna be cancelled so I took out Carroll for a 4 pointer to field 11.

It wasn't cancelled and Carroll scored big for the next 5 or so matches and Elmander sucked donkey balls for 2 points every week.

Players I feel I missed out on were -

      Kuyt
      Baines
      Vidic
      DJ Campbell
      Lescott(recently)

      On another note -

"Form is temporary Class is permanent" = total crap in FPL, Drogba, Fabregas, Nasri, Lampard, Malouda stunk up my team for far too many gameweeks, one thing I will make a concereted effort not to do next season is be a star f*cker.

      hindsight...
what would have been if I didn't sell Wingie for Zigic for a 4 point hit and then Zigic for Carroll for another 4 point hit?
      - Wingie got 70 points over that period, Zigic and Carroll have brought me a total of 5
      - they played and earned their massive 1 pointers when I had Bent (13), Walcott (3), Walker (3) on the bench
      - Carroll didn't play when Liverpool was ripping their opponents up, hence, he didn't earn any points while Kuyt & Suarez were earning massive points for other players
      That's been quite a damage.

Is Kompany even worth it? I'd imagine he'd be around the 6.5-7 mark. Has he even scored this season?

Hoilett is the one next season if he stays at Blackburn.

Only top 30k for me this year, first time outside the top 10k for at least 4 years. I blame some horrific runs of injuries and a general lack of attention on my part. Still, roll on next year.

How does Silva, Meireles, Torres, RVP and Hernandez sound for the guts of a team? 😉

Main thoughts / strategy / ideas for me next season:

    - no more than 2 or 3 players who haven't played in the Prem at the beginning of the season, starting with Van Damme, Jara, Gohouri, Zigic & Boselli at the start of this season was too risky.

    - personally im thinking of an expensive goalie, I can't see who will be viable cheapies for next season.

    - At least 1 big defender maybe even 2 and then dirt cheapies.

    - see which teams look defensively sound and possibly double up on 1 or 2 teams Tosey-style

    - most of all stick to my guns on players I want or dont want and try not to be too swayed.

I'd have to agree with those points. I jumped on a few too many bandwagons at the start of the season, had never played FPL before so was taking advice on previous good scorers, and had little knowledge of some teams and players. Will have a better idea start of next season.

I liked the strategy of a dirt cheap midfielder warming the bench every week, but I have to look to change that by the time winter comes around. Too often I was struggling to field 11 and when i did having Barry Ferguson coming off the bench wasn't great 🙂

Goalies will all depend on price I guess, an expensive one might be good, but Foster and Robinson worked well for me most of the season.

Looking back I didn't actually jump on many bandwagons at the start of the season. I went with Boseli and Petrov but that is really it, I was always going to go with Dorrans.

Not sure why I started the season so badly really. At the time it also seemed a great idea going with Robinson & Hahnehmann in goal, rotated really well and they were both meant to be good for cleanies back then.

I actually started off ok. Had Boselli and Petrov which I guess were the main bandwagons.

I had Malouda and Drogba from day one which was great, but like many people I held on too long. I only had Malouda because of the yellow flag on Lampard which was lucky, although I ddin't get rid of Drogba for the same reason.

I also went on holiday the week before the start of the season so missed the deadline and whatever so missed out on Malouda and had Lampard (c).

Also, I didn't go with Bale and went with Doyle who was obviously injured at the start but couldn't change it.

Foster in particular isn't gonna be cheap next season tho, I reckon I'll be going for an expensive goalie and 2 expensive defenders from Chelsea City United or Liverpool depending on what other players from those sides I have.

            +1

Djourou/kelly/lescott/P jones could all be great pics next season if they are prices reasonably.

The fact that they were injured/rotation might cap their prices a bit. I remember the season Vidic/Lescott scored so many goals. Their prices were sky high and they did feck all the next season.

      +1 on the top one!

I kept saying last pre-season, why go for Boseli when their is Rodallega? In the end I got swayed towards Boseli after seeing him banging in the goals and I think Rodallega was pushed out on the wing. Rodallega didn't set the world alight but scored 9 points in GW3 I think.

'SPEND SOME F*CKING MONEY, SPEND SOME F*CKING MONEY'!!!!!

Have to say, it was horrible not having a clue how the fpl team was getting on and later to find out I lost my mini-league by 6pts.
(Blaming Kolarov and the annoying GW21 where he got the Tevez autocaptaincy where I'd selected him as captain from the outset. Stupid rule that one and two full seasons now without an autocaptain.

Still they'll be a year older and wiser next season. (Where have I heard that before).

Yeah Ridgewell's red and Crouch's own goal didn't help me out last week either, you can't legislate for these sorts of things, it's just down to rotten luck. The league is won over the course of the season though, I basically threw mine away and my rival got lucky with Hangeland in a few of our mini leagues. Now I'm home from uni, I'm thinking of getting my sky+ box turned back on for some sky action in me room! Mainly because I'm hearing plenty of awesome things about Sky Atlantic.

Have I missed all the good stuff already?!

Agreed, though Ridgewell would be more our level, and I'd take a chance on him.

Mancienne needs to go back to Chelsea, as there is no way he's a Premier League centre half. Craddock is on his last legs, and I'm not really sure how Berra, Stearman & Elokobi have kept us in the division.

Yeah I rate Ridgewell. Looks like we both need to strengthen our defences or we'll be in serious trouble next season.

We won't be linked with or get any big name players but I have faith in Hodgson, look what he did at Fulham with the Hangeland/Hughes partnership!

It will be the usual, 'West Brom haven't spent any money, they will get relegated' throughout the summer though, can guarantee it.

The Baggies will be fine. Hodgson is the ideal manager for your club.

Regarding Mancienne and his midfield performances, he's certainly more effective in the middle of the park, but I just think he's too lightweight to stamp his authority on any game. My friend who watched the game with me yesterday said Mancienne looks more like a girl every time he sees him!

Agreed on Mancienne, he's been a disaster every time I've watched you play recently. Isn't physical enough to cut it in the Premier League as well.

Never really saw any of his performances when playing in midfield. Was he any better at that?

P.S. McMarthy's 'I'd have done him if it wasn't Elokobi' made me laugh a lot during MOTD last night. Elokobi is an absolute tank!

Elokobi can always do security if he gets dropped. He is a beast!

Might have a look at some of their cheap defenders next season. Foley served me well with a couple of goals. Craddock seems to be getting his form back.

Johnson would be a great acquisition, though I suspect he'd prefer to go to a team not flirting with relegation. We need to sort the defence out for next season, as we have a Championship defence at the moment.
