The curtain may have dropped on the 2010 season but Fantasy Managers will already be looking to next term and assessing likely targets. Our Scout Notes switch their sights then, focusing on the players and trends that will stir interest as we contemplate our summer break. What summer break?

Anderson
The midfielder continued his impressive form when played behind a lone striker; Anderson excelled in the role in the recent Champions League Semi Final against Schalke and yesterday saw him grab a goal (his first in the league all season) an assist and the three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points for a 13 point haul, fully justifying his selection in the Scout Picks squad and Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differential†article. Can Anderson flourish and find a regular starting role in Alex Ferguson’s midfield? Paul Scholes is likely to be the key factor here – with Scholes facing retirement, Anderson looks the most likely to step into the breach, although a new midfield arrival in the summer is also a strong possibility. Anderson’s form and role in the United camp will need monitoring in the pre-season.

Joleon Lescott
The Man City centre-half has started to show the form that made him a Fantasy favourite a couple of seasons back at Everton, with his second goal in as many games in the 2-0 win at Bolton. In the absence of Kolo Toure, Lescott has been given the game time to establish an understanding with Vincent Kompany at the heart of City’s defence and his eye for goal combined with City’s clean sheet capability could make him a decent pick come next term – if he can retain his starting role of course.

Charlie Adam
Adam’s free-kick at Old Trafford saw him finish as second-top overall in FPL this season, an outstanding return for a player initially priced at just 5.0. With Blackpool now relegated, the race will be on for his signature in the close season. If Adam does pop up in the Premier League next term, whether he remains a crucial Fantasy buy will be much dependant on his set-piece and penalty-kick returns; will any new side allow him to take the same number of corners and free-kicks to the same extent he has at Blackpool?

Robin Van Persie
Another goal for Van Persie at Fulham yesterday means that since the turn of the year, he has scored 18 goals in 18 games for the Gunners, failing to find the net in just five of those matches. Add in four assists and 27 Bonus Points and that’s an average of 7.8 per game. The Dutchman has shown that, when injury-free, he’s a near-essential asset for Fantasy Managers and will surely be one of the pre-season favourites when the time comes to select those 2011-12 FPL squads.

Bolton’s Decline
The wheels have come off in spectacular fashion towards the end of the season for Owen Coyle’s side; yesterday’s home defeat by Man City makes it five consecutive losses and, combined with the 5-0 FA Cup Semi Final by Stoke, cast a shadow over their great start to the campaign. In the end, Bolton sit just seven points off the relegation places and Coyle will need to invest in the summer, with Johan Elmander off on a free transfer and Daniel Sturridge heading back to parent club Chelsea. Talking of Sturridge, he will start the season with a suspension following his red card for a high tackle against City.

David “Junior†Hoilett
The Canadian was a real handful for Wolves at Molineux and his goal was Hoilett’s fourth in his last seven games for Rovers. Never given a chance under Sam Allardyce, credit must go to Steve Kean for showing faith in the youngster. He looks a real prospect for next season and will surely be an integral part of Kean’s side in the 2011/12 campaign. If FPL keep his price low, Hoilett could be a real steal.

Bobby Zamora
Four goals and four assists in ten games (with many of them from the bench) since returning from a broken leg has illustrated Zamora’s worth to Fulham. Injured in gameweek 4 and not returning until gameweek 29, he nevertheless ended up as top-scoring forward for the Cottagers and an injury-free season next time round under Mark Hughes should see Zamora a more-than-decent relatively low-priced shout.

Jermaine Beckford
A stunning strike handed Everton the home win over a fading Chelsea force. Beckford’s season has been patchy at best but, despite being in and out of David Moyes’ lineup, he returned eight goals over the season with three assists to his name. With Everton short on Summer funds, Beckford could well claim a place in Everton’s attack next term, although a shift to a regular 4-4-2 from David Moyes may well be required for Beckford to offer Fantasy Managers any real security.

Stephane Sessegnon
Playing as a makeshift striker, Sessegnon delivered his third goal in five games in Sunderland’s 3-0 win at relegated West Ham. Classed as a midfielder, the lightening-heeled signing from Paris St-Germain is all set to be a key figure next term and his shifts up front won’t have gone unnoticed by shrewd Fantasy Managers. Steve Bruce will surely bolster his forward line in the summer but the Sessegnon option is something we will need to be aware of as Bruce predicts big things from his January acquisition…

“We have to be patient and give him time to settle and get used to things…He’ll be a big hit for us next year, I’m convinced of that.”

Somen Tchoyi
Three-nil down to their hosts and without talisman Peter Odemwngie, West Brom looked dead and buried at St James’ Park but a hat-trick from Tchoyi earned the Baggies a point as the winger picked up 20 FPL points for his performance. Roy Hodgson hinted there will be plenty more to come from the player next season:

“It has taken me a while to get to know him but he is obviously going to be a very important figure for us next year. The more I have seen of him in training, the more I have got to see him in games, I have started to realise that he has got a special talent”.

Steven Taylor
An arm injury to Mike Williamson has allowed Taylor a chance to establish himself in the heart of Alan Pardew’s defence and he’s grabbed it with both hands. The centre-half has scored in each of his three subsequent appearances for Newcastle and has put forward a strong claim for a starting place alongside Fabricio Colccini regardless of Williamson’s availability.

Amazing? Jesus - he must have improved a lot since he was at the Valley.

My guess is he's off to Newcastle.

Simply put, yes he has improved a lot since he was at the Valley. He's fast, physical, brilliant close control and has amazing technique with his left foot. He can a hit a ball so sweetly. So he has all the skillful attributes required to be an all-round Premier League striker.

Unfortunately, he's (quite) a bit of a sulker and if he's not motivated for a game, then you've had it. Against QPR (a high-profile game on TV) he was brilliant, scored an incredible goal in the first 5 minutes and, more importantly, didn't do his thing of rolling around on the ground and being petulant with referees. He did this a lot from December onwards this season.

There's a lot more patience when you're the number one striker at a Championship club. In the Premier League, if you don't pull your weight then you're not in the team. Bothroyd has improved his weight-pulling loads since his younger days (including Charlton). But it's still probably not enough for the Premier, unless he has an understanding manager.

Its a one off game, so i wouldnt be surprised if either team one.

If it was a league format between the two Barca would finish a nice bit ahead but given the amount of things that can happen in game i wouldnt be surprised if United won - especially given the size of Barca squad.

My Spurs players only team finished 1,595,000 (give or take a few places...); it was a struggle to get a full team together this season, which reflected the low placing.

Oh well - next year I'll have a few more choices I suspect.

Yes, that's the idea. The first time I did it (three seasons ago?) they finished about 700,000. Last year was 100,000 better than this one... not sure what it says about Spurs themselves if anything!

I reckon most of the big clubs have enough ex-players to get a team out. It's not easy though - keepers can easily bugger things up for example.

Finished with a team value of 98.0 - that's the lowest I've had for a long time!

Any other ideas for teams? I liked the 6 million dollar man one...

that is a great call...to win would mean selecting a bunch of players who have a good track record of being injury free and play every game, rather than necessarily big goal scorers.

The first names I can think of would be A cole, Reina, Kuyt and.... Phil Neville (don't laugh)

there is only one true flop transfer of the season.

Step forward Fernando Torres, £50m for one goal in half a season.

If he causes Drogba to leave too then he will be the greatest signing ever (For Liverpool and ManUSA)

Please Jose come back and kick torres into touch, if we could get £10m for him now I would take it.

The transfer of Jérôme Boateng to Bayern is by no means certain yet. FCB have agreed a four-year contract with the player, but there's no agreement about a transfer fee. As with the Manuel Neuer deal, which will go ahead this week however, Bayern are trying to force down Man City's asking price.

Don't think Boateng would be a reliable solution for the Munich club's central defensive woes, certainly not in European competition, as he's too prone to costly mistakes. He'd be an improvement on Badstuber and Breno, no doubt, but even at Hamburger SV, Boateng ended up being played out wide where his slips could cause less damage.

On a Fantasy Football note, the end of the season came too soon for me.

My tip for next year would be; don't stock up on an entirely Scout defense of Coleman, Elmo, Walker, Luiz, Djourou, Rafael and Kolorov. You need a few guaranteed starters!

Carlo going is not a problem for me, he did well last season but this season was unable to halt the bad moment, he will be well remembered by most but he hasnt really impacted upon the side like i thought he would. I thought he would play with a deep lying playmaker but he never did.

At the end of the day he is still playing with Jose's team. We need an overhaul and a new manager to come in with fresh ideas (ideally Jose should come back and build a new team.)

            Jose seemed to manage ok.

I have no problem with Abramavich having "favourite" players and wanting to bring them in but they have to fit the system we play i.e. 4-3-3. Torres and Shevchenko dont/didnt.

We need wingers for this system and we dont have any really other than Kakuta who was shipped out on loan.

              Torres doesnt need wingers.
He needs a central creative player who can tread passes for him to run onto.

forget about torres,he needed 3 or 4 signings at the start of the season like luiz, young hungry players ready to sit 6 games on the bench and then come up the bench and get a point or three.

ballack deco belletti carvalho have left a void, it shouldv been filled before the season started.

alex and bosingwa were always known to be injury prone and going into the season without decent cover was the main risk

I'm not going to disagree with you in saying that the manner in which he was sacked leaves a sour taste, but ultimately I think it's the correct call.

Inability to change games with substitutions/change in tactics.
Reluctance to give youth a proper chance.
Reluctante to change a side that is clearly failing, both in terms of personnel and formation.
      Inability to inspire the players.
Little success in the transfer market. Benayoun, Sturridge, Zhirkov etc...

Just some of the problems I, and many other Chelsea fans, have with him. Ultimately, he was never going to be a long term appointment, and was brought in to win the Champions League, and we've been humiliated in it in both seasons.

It annoys me how the people criticising Chelsea for getting rid of Ancelotti, never seem to analyse the football we've played this season. All I'm hearing is "he's such a gentleman", and "oh, but you won the double" last season. Neither are convincing arguments for keeping him, IMO.

We need a new manager, with new ideas and new players. Not Ancelotti who would most likely stick with failing players like Lampard, Essien and Drogba.

I'm prepared to persist with Essien, just because he's so much younger than the others, and still could get back to the level that he once was, something I can't see Lampard or Drogba doing.

I think Drogba will go, Galatasaray is the latest rumour, and not sure about Lampard. Depends who comes in I guess.

I agree that Drogba will probably go. Lampard as you say, will depend on who comes in. I thought he looked really slow this season and not up to his best. Would love Chelsea to sell Frank and buy Fabregas, but that's not going to happen. I also think Anelka needs to go.

for me i would keep all 3, the players i would want to see leave are Anelka, Kalou, Bosingwa, Ferreira and Torres if we could sell him (obviosuly we need to bring in a new CF)

            bringing back Sturridge, 2 x winger/fwds, 1 x attacking CM, 1 x RB, 1 x back up GK

Lampard is still worth a place on the bench at least. Drogba has one more season in him

Lampard needs the side to be built around him though, same with Drogba. It's one of the main reasons for our downfall this season.

We're in a bit of Catch 22 situation at the moment. If we don't play Lampard then the formation doesn't work and there's no one to replace him, and if we do play him, he invariably doesn't perform, because he's lost it! (at least IMO)

He has been fantastic for chelsea and his experience is still invaluable imo. I would keep him for at least 2 more seasons and he will inevitably play less games. We need a new Attackin CM to replace him (NOT KAKA) as we should still play 4-3-3 as it is the most effective formation.

But, like I said, Lampard needs the side to be built around him, Giggs doesn't. There's no use in setting up with a formation to get the best out of him, when he's not always starting.

yes but his replacement will have the side built around him whether it be Sneijder or whoever.

and that is why we need to buy another CAM to replace Lamps so that he can be phased out. If we got rid completely then we would have noone to cover whoever the replacement is.

I know you are not a fan of Lamps but he is still a quality player imo and worthy of a spot on our bench at least.

      Are yas any good nomar?

It seems it is often difficult for a Championship club to switch from being one of the best teams in their respective league to one of the weaker sides. Attacking mentalities have to be checked and I think unless you have a strong defensive foundation in place you are in trouble.

West Brom and Blackpool are two sides who in recent years I have enjoyed watching as they play "good" football but have suffered from the switch in mentality. Stoke have to be the best example of how to handle this.

We need a goalscorer though, hence looking at Danny Graham interest, and a left back as I don't rate Off.

Going to United v New England Revolution in July in Gilette Stadium, looking forward to it, hopefully Pea and a few others will be playing what being from the Americas.

13,000th odd finish in FPL, disappointing, was hoping to be under 10,000 and I was at 10,000 going into the weekend but stuffed it up with my 12 point hit (Tevez/Nani/Berbatov/R.Taylor for Malouda/Odemwingie/VDV/Luiz), oh well, looking forward to August already.

If he has been bought to be a starter then I will be staying away from any WBA defenders in FPL next season!

Nice to see my advice that 3 midfield places and 3 forward places should be available in the FFS team of the year are likely to be ignored due to the only 2 votes available for forwards rule.

Have a look at the midfield poll and the Bill Hicks style "mighty big drop off" between third and fourth and tell me that the fourth midfield place is deserved.

Can't believe I got into the top 100 in the end! Over the moon! After those weeks of frustration over Zamora he redeemed himself fully yesterday.

Reading up, I love the idea of making an English only team in fpl and having it as 'my wife's team' any other restriction ideas for picking a team?

    Maybe no united/chelsea players?

Would just be brilliant if the restricted team could still beat a couple of my rivals full teams!

yeah the person who suggested the english only one is a genius

i'm gonna do an english only money league at work now, as well as a league where you pick a team and captain and can't make any changes

you could do an injunction 11 or broaden out to an in court 11. that could include those accused of rape/assualt as well.

frontline of RVP and Carroll could be awesome.

would obviously feature an aged legend that I can't name at the heart of midfield.

My brother has a no MU players rule (he doesn't fancy cheering them on) and generally comes second or third in our minileague.

Then again, despite being active players all season, the rest in the league are pants at this game.

Exactly! It just highlights how poor the rest are.

FF over any biases in real life for me. I'd definitely rather I do well at FF than LFC do (although it'll probably never give me the feeling I had at Istanbul - but how often does that happen!).

We are now, because Hemmings has just told the world. But not before that.

Although, as Hemmings said, Giggs' chances of suing 75,000 Twitterers were a bit slim...
