The Fixtures Under Analysis – Part Two

Part One of our examination of the Premier League fixture list lead us to explore the concept of pairing teams to establish chains of favourable home matches. While such matches are likely to be more profitable in most cases, they are by no means the single key factor; in Fantasy terms, a trip to Carrow Road could well be a far more profitable fixture than a home clash with Liverpool.

In this second part of our three-part guide for Members, we switch the emphasis away from home fixtures and focus instead on identifying favourable runs of opponents. To make things clearer, we’re splitting the Premier League teams into four discernible groups (roughly based on our Fantasy Premier League player value expectations) and will examine each team in turn, with the aim of identifying the periods or “windows” of the season that lend themselves best to investment.

Good read!

Very interesting start this year as many of the clubs with favourable early fixtures have new managers coming in (Chelsea, Fulham, Villa) or have been promoted - should reward a keen eye on preseasn form and selection.

Getting the right player from Chelsea could be a big part of early success (just like having Malouda last year), but it's difficult to see who will go into a front three if Villas-boas goes 4-3-3

  De Gea will definitely be cheaper, can't remember any keeper ever starting more than £6.5M, and Vidic will be at least 7, probably 7.5 or even 8.
  
  But I don't like spending bit on 'keepers so I won't be getting him, but I may well just get Vidic and play him anyways. Always a goal threat.

        He should do man Jeffren seems a bit lightweight. I'm just going with Lopez and maybe Emeghara. I reckon the score'll prob be 1-0 so I'm prob gonna go with defenders

Has anybody considered making an Excel file of every player's stats from last season, such as the opposition, goals, assists, BPs etc?

I seem to remember one to look at in the 09/10 season (for the 08/09) but it was never done last season.

  Yeah I remember that too KC and it was a real good tool when trying to select players that might be under priced due to not playing 90mins through injury etc.
  
  You could look at all the games a player played and see whether there points were scored home/away and if their pts per game was down due to a spell coming off the bench after injury etc.
  
  The stats section on the members area here is quite good but it does not let you see things on a game by game basis as far as I know?

    Yeah I emailed in about that and was told they couldn't do it, due to license.
    
    I mean, we could get say 20 of us and each do a team a piece, but the organising of it would be a nightmare, lol.
    
    I may just settle with noting the scorers of the last 5 seasons for each game, unless there's any sites which will also tell you the assists (without having to go digging)?

      None that I know of I'm afraid.
      
      It's a pity fpl does not do this themselves though. It is not as if it would be incredibly difficult or time consuming to put them info they already have up there for the users.
