The majority of the Premier League clubs have now begun their pre-season with the opening friendlies of the summer. After several days of fixtures, we’ve duly updated our exhaustive pre-season guide section to reflect the results, team lineups and general pointers from recent matches.

It’s early days of course so the starting lineups remain experimental, with many sides alternating the elevens or even splitting their squads over two matches. Nonetheless, it’s good practice to track progress as the pre-season fixtures go by and perhaps get some insight into tactics, form and formation. On that note, we couldn’t help but notice that Mauro Boselli got on the scoresheet in Wigan’s first friendly. Fancy that.

With Sunderland, West Brom and Stoke all in action today, look out for further updates on this page from tomorrow.

        only lost 0.1 on him, not bad considering he went down by about 1.5... i am going nowhere near him this year even if he scores a hat trick on day 1. bah

        he hit the bar in game one. meanwhile lampard (a lot of people's captain was due to come off after 59 mins with 1 point but replacement benayoun had to go to the toilet (i'm honestly not making this up) so lampard got a couple more minutes where he scored and got his 1 extra appearance point and 1 extra clean sheet point. benayoun then returned and on 63 mins lampard came off with 8 points.
        sometimes there are very fine lines in this games. the width of a bar and an israeli bladder can be pivotal

        See I knew that Benayoun is a beast for his Lucozade Sport, he quaffs it like there's no tomorrow. He usually guzzles it at half time. Traditionally the Semetic peoples have a 15% smaller bladder size and thus I knew that Lampard would be safe for at least 20 minutes after half time as there is an increased chance of Benayoun needing to piddle, thus Lampard would be a safe pick.
        Surely that was obvious?

that ronaldo v messi banter is hard to call

if you stuck ronaldo at fulham,sunderland,everton,villa he would push them close to top 4 and would be 20goal man.He scores free kicks headers is good at winning free kicks, getting people booked,pissing the other team off and would be able to play in teams that hoof it,pass it fast,take time in the build up. I think the problem is in big games he has been marked with 2 players all the time and often the managers have gone for the other way and stopped the supply which cant be done against barca. he has proved great at 2 clubs i think messi needs to change leagues and clubs and then rip another league apart while playing in a differant system then he can be considered a legend. maradonna did it at a few clubs for example.

i also think that everything barc does is for the little man even there forwards pedro and villa are asked to work the channels drop off jink in and out all to move the defenders for messi. Can you really say that real have a style geared up for ronny it seems at times they give he the ball around the half way line stand back and say go on do something, and he often wins throws high up the pitch or something proactive. i think messi is 10/10 for barca but ronny is 9/10 for england and spain and when ever he plays for his country they mark him heavy and the country puts way to much pressure on him.
