QPR have this afternoon announced that Adel Taarabt will not be leaving the club this summer.

In an official statement posted “on behalf of majority shareholders Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore”, Rangers announced that Taarabt will not be sold, despite the club receiving bids for his services…

“We rebuffed all approaches and indeed, we are keen to build for the future in the Barclays Premier League, and not sell one of our prized assets… Taarabt is fully committed to the Club and is looking forward to proving his undoubted star quality for QPR in the Barclays Premier League.”

This will come as a major relief for all connected to the club but is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers.

Taarabt has long been earmarked as QPR’s key Fantasy asset going into the season. Our recent Scout Report article goes into depth on his potential this term – soak that up for the full details. In a nutshell however, Taarabt arrives in the top flight off the back of a season where he claimed 19 goals and 16 assists in his 43 starts. His importance the QPR’s survival chances is undoubted – his potential for Fantasy returns unquestionable.

Snuggled in the mid-price bracket (6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League) across the various games, this news will restore confidence amongst Fantasy Managers and surely see Taarabt arrive in many squads prior to Gameweek one. The fact that QPR are also blessed with a kind baptism back in the Premier League in terms of early opponents will only compound the Moroccan’s popularity.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who do you guys think will get the least rotation in MUN midfield? I saw Young play against the New England Revolution and thought he's got a pretty good shot.

Too much money in defence for my tastes. Downgrade the 1 or 2 defenders you don't intend to play and upgrade at least one of your mids and one of your forwards.

Also, neither Luiz or Ivanovic are nailed on starters at the moment. It might become clear before the season starts, but at the moment, it's not. Alex and Boswinga may feature.

    Kenny (Given)

Simpson / Kompany / Cole (Bardsley / Wilkinson)

Albrighton / Sessegnon / Taarabt / VDV (Sinclair)

    Odemwingie / Suarez / Rodalllega

    5m in the bank.

GK: I'll go with the keeper rotation until we see who the new Ben Foster is. Or Ben joins WBA.

DF: Two decent defenders with Bardsley/Simpson rotating is OK by me and saves money.

MD: Should score points but the only thing that troubles me is the lack of Chelski. But that's unclear at the moment.

FW: Carroll replaces Suarez if he's rested.

Basically, I can't see the point of maxing out my budget. Or paying an extra 2m for someone who'll maybe score the same. First game of the season is somewhat of a lottery, so the 5m flexibility allows me to move where ever I choose when things get real*.

    Thoughts? Shoot me down …

    * real in a fantasy sense of course. 😆

the points you made for each position are exactly in line with mine.

Keepers identical, but that appears to be a "given" for most.

two big everyweek def, i have komapany as well, going baines over cole

have vdv taarabt and sinclair-no chelsea

i have one forward worth 10 mil and it will be either suarez or carroll.

I definitely think flexibility is key early on but you are going to want some (more) Chelsea players in fairly soon. Can maybe make do with just Cole for GW1 and then swap out Rodalllega?

I don't see any issues with any of the individual picks but 5m is too much to leave in the bank. You could replace a player at a mid table team with a star player at a top club which, selection depending, should get you more points. You can also then sell said star player to get the flexibility back.

        -1

But your largely guessing as to who the best 'star' players will be. Why not see what happens in GW1 first and have the flexibility to bring in who you like for GW2 or GW3? Things will be a lot clear after everyone has played a game or two

@ Fuzzy - Ta mate. Good to know that my thinking is not so far of beam.

@ SuperDunny - Yes, I'll invest in Chelsea after GW1. I just don't see it worthwhile against Stoke away. (I'm a Chelski btw).

@ acm - The problem is, is that I can't find a star player worth the extra dosh who I think will out score my current picks.

Thanks for the input chaps. Food for thought.

        Danke as always.

Last season was my first playing FPL. Started using this site at the very end of last season but this is my first post. Was hoping to get some thoughts on my draft team.

    Given 5m, Al Habsi 4.5m
    Kompany 6m, Vidic 8m, Cashley 7.5m, Simpson 4m, Brown 4.5m (or other 4-4.5m defender)
    Mulumbu 6m, Sinclair 6m, Silva 9.5m, Buzsaky 4.5m, O Hara 6m
    RVP 12m, Suarez 9.5m, Ba 6.5m

    .5m in the bank

This was before I saw that Taarabt is now meant to be staying so ought to replace Buzsaky with him though this costs 2m which I don't have. Was thinking I'd cheapen the defence by replacing either Vidic or Cole with either Rafael (only for Vidic), Enrique (if at Ars/Liv) or Gibbs. This could also free up a little more money.

Suarez may not be in from week 1 depending on likelihood of playing but is likely to be transferred in very early.

My main concern is midfield, a lot of the more expensive options have question marks over them but having too many unproven mids in there could give me some low scoring players. What are people's thoughts on Mulumbu, haven't seen him mentioned on here but he seemed to be doing well under Hodgson.

If his injury isn't serious then Ben Arfa stands out at 5.5m. Tchoi is 5.5 and would be a gamble that could pay off if he gets regular playing time in an advanced position, which has been suggested. Some people have talked about Hoolahan at 5.5 though I know nothing about him. Moses at 5 is risky but Wigan have a good start to the season.

Defense looks alright, perhaps needs one more midrange value player.

Not convinced by that midfield at all. Nasri will either move, or his heart won't be in it. Silva doesn't entice me as a fantasy prospect for the value, Ben Arfa is a crock and may take some time to settle this season. Albrighton is a tad overvalued and his returns will probably dimish if/when n'zog join.

Torres will need to convince me he's returned to form before I even think about going near him. I'd rather have Hernandez over Rooney for less value and probably more goals.

Pederson on a hunch? Of all the 6.5 mids hes not in my top 5. I did have him last year for his mini run.

Rafael isn't nailed on, rotation risk there with his twin. Skrtl seems a strange choice for 6 doesn't offer a huge goal threat, and Liverpool defence isn't outstanding.

Dempsey is probably overvalued this season and isn't likely to be played in such an advanced position under Jol. There are better options for 6.5 than Pedersen I believe (Sessegnon, Taarabt). Quite like the rest though. Tchoyi may be a slightly better shout for West Brom mid.

I'd stick with RVP over Suarez tbh, and perhaps Odemwinge over Gyan which frees up another .5, saying that Gyan is still a nice pick.

Thanks guys... Under the new bonus system i was thinking skrtel could be good because clearances and takles are taken into acount for the PPI. Just my thinking but who do u think instead?

I've got Riise for 6 in my team at the moment. Huth or Clichy are also other good options.

Huth is a touch overprice for my liking and has horrible starting fixtures. Clichy a nailed on starter?

Hmm ye good point on Huth, not he best fixtures to start. As for Clichy I'd be shocked if he wasn't at least for the first few weeks.

Bo Van Pelt goes into the final day at the Canadian open at -4 and top of the leaderboard, 15/8. I don't like to boast but I got him at 20/1 yesterday, level par. FORESIGHT.

Having a headache over VDV/Malouda or neither.

Both were up and down last season, but they could be great picks.

VDV's first 3 are awful and Malouda's are great - simple enough to pick?

Try not to lose any sleep over it. Rest assured your team will look very different in three weeks time.
