QPR have this afternoon announced that Adel Taarabt will not be leaving the club this summer.

In an official statement posted “on behalf of majority shareholders Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatoreâ€, Rangers announced that Taarabt will not be sold, despite the club receiving bids for his services…

“We rebuffed all approaches and indeed, we are keen to build for the future in the Barclays Premier League, and not sell one of our prized assets… Taarabt is fully committed to the Club and is looking forward to proving his undoubted star quality for QPR in the Barclays Premier League.â€

This will come as a major relief for all connected to the club but is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers.

Taarabt has long been earmarked as QPR’s key Fantasy asset going into the season. Our recent Scout Report article goes into depth on his potential this term – soak that up for the full details. In a nutshell however, Taarabt arrives in the top flight off the back of a season where he claimed 19 goals and 16 assists in his 43 starts. His importance the QPR’s survival chances is undoubted – his potential for Fantasy returns unquestionable.

Snuggled in the mid-price bracket (6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League) across the various games, this news will restore confidence amongst Fantasy Managers and surely see Taarabt arrive in many squads prior to Gameweek one. The fact that QPR are also blessed with a kind baptism back in the Premier League in terms of early opponents will only compound the Moroccan’s popularity.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Can anyone suggest OOP Defenders playing in midfield
& OOP Midfields playing Forward ? I have a few thoughts myself, but would like them confirmed.

Sessegnon and Tchoyi in midfield play forward. Possibly Walcott but he may not get gametime.

Walters! Not convinced about this Tchoyi Story. WBA only play one striker and that will be Odem. Tchoyi may get an attacking wide role but he is not even a certain starter. Sessagnon excites me however.

Yeah don't think tchoyi will be starting.
Walters?? Don't be misled by his "oop" status. He may line up as a striker but he seriously plays like a defensive mid.

Yes he lines up alongside Jones but he can't shoot, he can't pass. His game is all about dropping deep, winning the ball back & giving it to one of the good players. This is one bandwagon I'll be avoiding 😛

Looks pretty good mangulica. I'm not sold on Sinclair and taarabt when proven players like duff & albrighton have good fixtures and are the same price. I'd rather play it safe and bring them in after they prove themselves. Battin's potential depends on set pieces imo, not sure who's on them for Newcastle. Just my 2c but looks a decent team

Sinclair and Taarabt are on pens, Duff and Albrighton aren't.

Taraabt really is a no brainer in my opinion.

Pretty much everything QPR do in an attacking sense is going to revolve around him. At £6.5m you're getting a guy who hogs set pieces (and now has a big target man to aim for in Bothroyd), can score from open play and gets assists.

Even if you don't like the guy you have to admit that he's the most nailed on of all the players from promoted sides. The nice early run makes him worth a gamble in my opinion.

Could pay off and I'll happily climb aboard the bandwagon if he succeeds but the fact is you don't know how he'll cope at the top level. Many flair players have lit up the championship but failed in the prem. Not meaning to dis your team but most prem clubs will be dominant against Qpr and taarabt will have to get used to having a lot less of the ball, a lot less support going forward and facing defenders with much better focus, positioning, ability e tc. I've been burned starting with unproven players before and it's easy to bring him in if he starts well.

That may or may not be so, we genuinely don't know yet.

But my point is, he's pretty much the team's attacking route. If they win games or score goals (and they will score goals) he is most likely going to be behind it.

If they get a penalty Taraabt takes it.

He doesn't need to single handedly win every game. All he needs to do is score or assist and his track record in that department is pretty good. Since he hogs all set pieces too that increases your chances of getting points from him.

I always think of it this way. If a player I haven't got starts off hot I've already missed out on a large portion of his points. Getting him in weeks later doesn't always work.

Still, its your team. I just think the upside on Taraabt is worth the punt.

Totally get what you're saying nomar and I realise he has the potential to do a lot better than duff & albrighton. Key word is potential though, I'd rather know what I'm getting at the start and bring him in if he can turn that potential into points.

I think it's really risky having two cheap forwards though. You can easily lose price on them if they don't fire straight away as a lot of people jump ship at the first sign of trouble.
My season started horribly last year losing cash on Boselli for that very reason (he never came good either). Then again, I spent on Rooney too and that didn't work either!

coz caroll is at 10.0 and unproven fantasy asset since joining liverpool. suarez is 9.5
suarez is a safer bet due to his form last season.
plus last season teh partnership between the two has proven more profitable for suarez.

I have decided that Liverpool players are to be avoided early on. So many other teams have decent opening fixtures where they play Arse, Spurs and Stoke away in the first 5 games. They also have a lot of new players so I am going to wait and see how they all click.

In fact, you could save 1.0 by getting Luiz for A.Cole, then trade Downing for Ferguson (bench) and that should give you enough to buy another premium striker

Why is everyone against expensive defenders this season?

I've always been a mid/forward based selector, with rotating cheap defenders, so I understand the concept of the team builds.

    BUT

This season, the prices of all the attacking players have been hiked up drastically to the point that you're paying Henry/Ronaldo prices for solid performers. Tevez and RvP (when fit) are the closest we have to Henry/Ronaldo type performers.

So when you look at it this season - your per budget performers are coming from the defence i.e. Baines 178/8.0 = 22.25 points per budget, Nani 198/10 = 19.8, Tevez 185/12.0 = 15.4.

Are we seeing a change in the where the best way to spend our money is?

defenders are tricky and very very rarely do they score big.

ur calculations are wrong because baines ddnt miss 1 minute of football last season while nani/tevez did.
so ur assuming that when u buy a player at the start, u never sell him again.
the good scores are achieved when for example last season, people started with catching malouda's run, continued with nani's then vdv and finished with adam.
that is not worth it with def coz they dnt score big, no captaincy choice.... so a mid priced defence able to rotate and minimal transfers needed is the best choice in this area

Year in, year out mids and fwds outscore defenders so it makes sense to focus your budget here.

Value-wise maybe but we want the highest points scorers in the game.

Remember that Nani and Tevez were not the quoted prices at the start of last season so to use this year's values is misleading.

I think you're actually confirming my point

Nani's price last year (8.0) made him a very good buy (value/budget of 24.75). This year he's unlikely to score more points to justify his price. That's the whole thing with finding early bargains.

I'm not against big names up top, I'm just questioning the logic of playing too many of them.

The key stat isn't value - it's points per game.

Compare the top 10 defs, mids and fwds from last season and look at their scores. Apart from Baines, the other defs represent poor value.

You have very poor attacking options, too much money in defenders who you are apparently not playing. A team full of injury doubts in ben arfa and arteta and very limited captaincy options.

I would keep a spine of

      Given
      Kompany cole
      tarrabt zogbia
      suarez zamora

      and then change the rest!

I quite like it. the only problem may be if it turns out you need two big strikers...there's always the option to downgrade VDV or Lamp one week and get in Drog or Bent the next.

You the devil are Gokss and Martin tho? May need another proven defender in there with good fixtures. I've just transferred Distin in as he scores well in the EA sports thingy. Allows me to switch to Jags if he pops down to London and Arsenal.

Lamps, Barton, Taarabt, Albrighton (N Dyer)

    Tevez(c), RVP(v), Rodders

Does look a little unbalanced tbf. Keeping Tevez until I hear he isn't playing for Man City. RVP is a must obv. Lamps could be switched for Malouda I guess and upgrade defence and/or Dyer.

Moses- Wigan coverage for their nice start, plays right behind Rodallega
Salgado- Blackburn have a really solid start, not too keen on the other 4.5 mids (Bramble would be the other choice)
