All the paper talk today suggests that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan for a fee in the region of £9.5 million.

There’s no official confirmation of such an agreement from either club at this point but the reports suggest that the French winger will undergo a medical and agree terms within the next 24-hours.

While we wouldn’t normally deal in pure speculation or discuss a transfer yet to be concluded, N’Zogbia’s potential more to Villa Park carries such significance, it deserves our early attention.

Of all the summer transfers so far, this one could have a major impact on the prospects of both clubs and several players nestled in the low-to-mid price brackets across the various Fantasy games.

N’Zogbia himself, a long-time Fantasy favourite, will likely find himself a key player once again. While he has arguably been the leading light at Wigan, his influence and match winning potential seems unlikely to be diluted by a move to Villa Park. With Ashley Young and Stewart Downing now departed, the scene is set for N’Zogbia to take charge at set-plays and orchestrate the key threat to the opposition, in much the same way he did at the Latics. His mid-price value (7.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game) will look appealing to many, particularly those who choose to turn their backs on the goal-getting potential of Darren Bent for Villa’s favourable opening spell of fixtures.

N’Zogbia’s arrival will however have a likely impact on the potential of Marc Albrighton. The England U21 international was expected to build on an hugely encouraging first season in the Premier League by stepping up to fill the void left by Young and Downing. While his starting role should remain assured, N’Zogbia will likely take on the role of lock-picker, supplier of crosses and assists and deadball duties. Albrighton’s potential for points will take a hit – albeit a minor one.

There could be better news for Fantasy managers back at Wigan. Robbed of N’Zogbia’s trickery and guile, Roberto Martinez has a ready-made replacement in Victor Moses. While the 20-year-old lacks the experience and pedigree of the Frenchman, he has the ability in his locker and the hunger to prove himself in the top flight. Already sparkling in pre-season, Moses will surely relish the prospect of regular starts. With a budget price across the various games (5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League), Fantasy managers should also look forward to Moses realising at least some of his potential should the N’Zogbia deal be concluded.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He said that he wasnt guaranteed to be first choice. That was after a good friendly performance from Lindegaard but I wouldnt read too much into that. I think he was just complimenting Lindegaard more so than warning De Gea.

I have re-shuffled my team since last posting, what do people make of it? I will give a couple of reasons too.

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany, Samba, Riise (Jagielka, Simpson)
Y Toure, Taraabt, N’Zogbia, Downing (Jarvis)
    Suarez, Gervinho, Ba

I’ve also got 2.5m lift over, so suggestions would be appreicated!

I chose Given and Ruddy as cheap options that will get starts, and be able to rotate if needs be, but Given is very much first choice.
Kompany, Samba and Riise will bring in a mixture of clean sheets and goals, with Jagielka as good backup and Simpson as a cheap option.
My midfield will get goals and assists, and I can choose the sub based on fixtures.
Strikers will score goals, and hopefully Suarez and Gervinho can grab a few assists too. Plenty of potential for bonus points.

    Thanks!

I've swapped Ba for Rodallega for the first few weeks - would Bent work as a heavy hitter with N'Zog and Albrighton supplying him, or would it be better to have N'Zog OR Bent?

To be honest, none of the Chelsea players look like good value, so I'm steering clearer until the points forecasts are released on here.

Moaning like an old fart today but what I find totally ridiculous is the start of the season, there is a huge bandwagon on here and most people seem to have exactly the similar teams..

90% Have Taraabt (unproven) NZogbia (overpriced) Zamora (hardly a top 10 striker) Given (Villa are hardly the best for clean sheets)
And although good picks the same old Ruddy, Kompany and co

And then there is the whole "im sure this new signing is going to be amazing" e.g Gervinho

What will most likely happen is wholesale changes soon get made once the likes of the usual suspects e.g Lampard, Nani, VDV, RVP get to their huge point scoring again.

What is with the reason why your team is so great - im sure Everyone thinks their team is great!

Is it that easy that there is one formula team that is sure fire going to be getting all the points in the first few weeks based on fixtures and preseason form?? I think not

I agree to Zamora comes in on form, with a competitive pre season and good fixtures...he will become Odem for me wk 3 more likely, but the best for that price for the first few weeks.

I als agree that the big hitters will come good. I think most teams need two of VDV, Lamps, RVP, Malouda, Suarez, Bent, Rooney.

Having three can narrow options. Having four of the above and you are basically fielding 11 under 12s for a village side.

I'm going Malouda, Carroll and RVP for the big boys at the moment, with a fairly stacked defence too.

            For the record:

            Given (Kenny)
Kompany, Carragher*, A Cole, (Bramble*, Simpson)
            Malouda, Albrighton, Barton, Sinclair, (Dyer)
            RVP, Carroll, Zamora
            *stop sniggering!

N zogbia has a better points per game total than the Likes of Malouda and is just behind Lampard. 7.5mil is a snip.

Pretty poor post allround. With the price hikes you cant fit more than 3 top priced players in and even with that you comprise the rest.

Hey guys assuming Nzogbia moves to A.villa im gna be looking at this for now:

    Al-Habsi D.Vries

    A.Cole Kompany Rafael Orr Simpson

    Lampard Taarabt Moses B.Arfa Ferguson

    RVP Suarez Bent

    What do you guys recon?

i recon the amount of balls that both nzog and albrighton feed bent in a 4-2-3-1 formation will make him a must have.

tossing up between rooney and rvp for the first few gameweeks too..opinions?

rafa could be rotation risk...u could get fulham def for 5.0 who has better fixtures and not a rotation risk for rafa and upgrade ferguson to 4.5 mid and ben arfa is apparently ruled out for 6 weeks...i like the forward line and rest of the mids...

cheers for the suggestion ive thought about it and i dont it really would matter if i got a 4.5mid instead of ferguson cause i really wuldnt play that mid anyway lol e.g.tiote? IF Rafael isnt getting enough game time he owuld be swapped for Gibbs/Kelly.

The way i figure it is i would ALWAYS play the following outfield players:

A.Cole Kompany Rafael Lampard Taarabt RVP Suarez Bent

which leaves me the following 4 to rotate for the final two spots:

        B.Arfa Moses Simpson Orr

        What do you think?

    Kenny, Ruddy
    Kompany, Baines, Luiz, Briggs, Simpson
    VDV, N'Zog, HBA, sessegnon, Moses
    RVP, Suarez, Zamora

Think the GK are too weak, but not sure how to improve. Only really want to spend 8.5 on them, what do you reckon?

I need to stop tinkering with my team. I'm setting myself up for disappointment. As I create my team, I've had virtually everybody significant in the lineup at one time or another. When the players I end up with don't do well in gameweek 1, I will inevitably say "Why did I transfer out (good player) for (bad player)?!"

    Anyway, my team for now:
    Given/Al Habsi
    Kompany / Baines / Orr / Simpson / Wilkinson
    OHara / VDV / Yaya / NZog / Tiote
    Rooney / Suarez / Holt

I want Arsenal and Chelsea coverage but don't know how to do it.

    RMT Any thoughts on:
    Given (Kenny)

    Alex, Clichy, Riise, (Simpson), (Gibbs)

Dempsey, Yaya Toure, Taarabt, N'Zogbia (O'Hara)

    Odemwingie, Rooney, Zamora

    Alex gives me Chelsea cover.
Riise, Dempsey and Zamora let me take advantage of Fulham's fixtures. I'm jumping on the Taarabt bandwagon, but his stats from the Championship make him too tempting to ignore.
I might drop N'Zog if he moves but that's not a certainty. Rooney isn't fixed so I might swap for a Chelsea forward depending on who emerges as their top striker... I just don't trust Torres.

        First four are:
        Fulham v Aston Villa
        Wolverhampton v Fulham
        Newcastle v Fulham
        Fulham v Blackburn

Not a bad run of games. I do think I need more Chelsea coverage though with their run of games.

Ok - have decided to ditch Rafael for Hughes as not certain to start and Utd's opening fixtures not great.

How does this lot look then:

    Given/Al Habsi
    Luiz Kompany Hughes (Simpson Orr)
    Lamps N'Zog Moses Taarabt (Barton)
    RVP Suarez Ba
