Reports this afternoon indicate Hatim Ben Arfa will miss the opening two games of the season for Newcastle United.

The Frenchman flew home from the club’s US tour last week following a robust challenge in a game against Sporting Kansas City and looks to have suffered ankle ligament damage on his left leg- the same one broken by Nigel de Jong in Ben Arfa’s fourth game in a Newcastle shirt last season.

Having visited a specialist in Paris this week, Ben Arfa’s news has come as some relief; club insiders were braced for the worst and a three month spell on the sidelines was even thought possible.

The news means Ben Arfa will miss out on the season opener at home to Arsenal and the gameweek 2 match away to rivals Sunderland- coming in at 5.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he was of particular interest to Fantasy managers, with a place behind the front man in a 4-5-1 formation being mooted early on.

Whether this propels new signing Yohan Cabaye (6.0) into Alan Pardew’s thinking as a more attack-minded midfielder remains to be seen, though Joey Barton (6.0) would offers more security at present. With neither player allowed a visa for the club’s US tour, a friendly against Leeds on the 31st of July should see them line up in the Newcastle first-team as Pardew ramps up his preparation ahead of the big kick-off.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Further to the topic on the last article:

Yes, I currently plan to have VdV from the start.

Secondly MMW, Bale got way more PPG than Modric, and I think he was cheaper. He was also less consistent, meaning he got some eye-catching hauls, and on a good day, was a captainable choice.

    Fantasy wise, Bale >>> Modric.

Barton OHara and Nzogbia offer tremendous value imo.. you can keep them in your team all season and know for a fact they’ll get around 130-150.. Then there’s Taraabt and Sinclair who look like they could do the same too.. that makes a beautiful midfield imo.. Upfront there are so many expensive strikers who could do well over the season that spending big on strikers seems to be the way to go.. Starting off with Rooney RVP and Suarez.. Gives me the chance to do straight swaps for Torres/Drogba, Tevez, Hernandez, Carroll, Gervinho if any of my present front 3 get injured or for a run of fixtures or form.. so much more manoeuverability.. Apart from VDV i can’t see anyone that could hurt me that much from midfield..Anyone else doing the same?

Dont understand the love for Barton. All he's really got is the set pieces (and a tendency to pick up cards) and even that might get taken away by Cabaye or another of the new signings. Definite wait and watch in my opinion. Yet I see him in so many teams.

How can Barton be a wait and watch situation? He's been in the prem for ages, we know what he's like and what he's capable of. Cabaye is the wait and watch.

Yup, definitely sticking with Barton as a high value mid, consistent points, you know what you're getting with him - many seem to be going for Sinclair/Taabat/Moses/Sessegnon (I can't be arsed to look up spellings on all them) but most are pretty untested as long term point scorers in FPL...

He got 131 points last year despite Nolan & Ameobi taking the majority of penalties until the end of the season and having to compete with Andy Carroll for Bps.

This year he should be the pen taker to begin with and has less competition for Bps.

I whole-heartedly disagree. He was getting assists from open play last season and scored 4 goals. Will still be the Geordie's most creative force 2011/12, plus should take pens now Nolan's gone. Cards are a risk, but last season's 8Y 0R is reasonable given his position and mindset. I think he's very underused by FPL players at just 15.3% take-up. He's in my team.

Ok, check this out... as much as I want Baines, I think I might have a better team without him - but I'd need two 4.0 defenders in this team:

    Given Begovic
    Kompany Bardsley A.Cole
    VdV N'zog Sinclair Barton Moses
    Bent Rooney Zamora

It's pretty spread out, but I kind of like it.

I like that team as well. I have a similar spread. Baines instead of Cashley. And Collins over Bardsley. Personally, I would downgrade Sinclair and/or Barton to 5.5's so you can have a pair of rotating 4.5's, but its up to you, that makes you weaker in the middle I guess. But thats what I would do anyways. Isn't Bent and N'Zog too much? I can't bring myself to invest that much in Villa, but have 10.0m to spend on a forward, and N'Zog already, hoping Aguero comes in at 10.0, then I'm sorted, and I would advise you bring him in if he goes to City and at that price, instead of Bent.....

I like Carroll this season (as do I Liverpool) but there's a ot of new faces to bed in, and do we really know who KD will play? 4-4-2, 4-5-1? I'm not sure. But Carroll will get a decent points haul, but maybe not as many early on, given fixtures, as other similarly priced Atts.

Nzogbia isnt going to Villa, he's coming to Everton.

A deal to sell Fellaini is being thrashed out as we speak and we're gonna use the funds to hijack the Nzogbia/Villa deal.

          lol - I won't.

Good fixtures for Wigan won't equal clean sheets in my opinion.

None of the big teams covered in defence is too risky I reckon - will have you hoping for attacking returns from your def.

Will later do VDV > Lampard/Malouda
Bent > Suarez as well, when Liverpool's fixtures get better. Also Rooney > RVP after game week 4.
All i need to hope for is Luiz to be a regular starter. Also the two Wigan boys will go after game week 3 to accommodate West brom's good run of fixtures.

        Thoughts?

I think you need Baines Demi.

His fixtures week 2-6 are amazing. Added to fact he bp potential and yet another injury for Arteta it appears makes him a must.

He is well worth the 1mil more than Zamora. Nice team besides

What do you all think of this squad?

    Given/Robinson

    Baines/Luiz/Kompany/Hangeland/Simpson

    Cahill/Walcott/Albrighton/Tarrabt/Sincliar

    Zamora/Vaughan/Bent

I think i have possibly shelled out a bit too much on Walcott and Cahill. But from a reasoning perspective, this is Cahill’s full first injury free pre-season in years and Walcott has looked good so far in pre-season making all the right noises etc, plus his record against Newcastle and Liverpool is pretty decent over the last few seasons.

Nice to see a slightly different team. I don't like Evertons fixtures or Cahill as a pick but thats your choice.

Would consider downgrading one of your pricey defenders and upgrading in attack though...
