Stoke joined Fulham in gaining some competitive action last night as Tony Pulis’ side kicked off their own Europa Cup adventure with a 1-0 win at the Britannia. Elsewhere, Sir Alex Ferguson dismissed claims of a long-term head injury to Javier Hernandez, scuppering suggestions made by Little Pea’s old club doctor that the player has suffered similar issues with concussion before. Here’s your morning Scout Scribbles:

With Javier Hernandez currently sidelined for Man United due to concussion, confusion surrounds the player’s condition. Rafael Ortega, doctor at Chivas de Guadalajara, told ESPN Sports Radio club that, as a teenager, Hernandez was sent for tests following a bout of severe migraine attacks:

I remember in his time as a youth player at Chivas that he suffered from acute migraines – originally, it manifested itself as a headache. Afterwards, the symptoms disappeared. We had some studies done on him, but that was six years ago and he has done well since. I don’t know if there is a connection between the two situations. I don’t know if this can affect him in the future.

Sir Alex Ferguson has moved swiftly to deny Ortega’s claims, however, explaining the situation in a little more detail:

This is a straightforward concussion. He was hit on the top of the head with the ball in the early evening. When he was back at the hotel taking his meal he felt sick and he was sick. He had headaches, so we removed him to the hospital where he stayed in overnight.

They did the MRI scans and that was all clear and they released him on Wednesday. Concussion is something that you don’t want to happen, but usually time heals and we’ll give ‘Chicharito’ plenty of time. I’ll only bring him back when the doctor tells me I can.”

Fergie also had plenty to say on new signing Phil Jones. The player was fielded at right-back in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over the MLS All-Stars and it’s clear Jones’ new boss sees him as one of the most adaptable member of his Man United squad already. This may bode well for Jones next season- with his manager lauding his versatility, it’s possible he’ll get more starts than anticipated in his debut campaign, offering the United boss cover in a number of positions.

Fulham’s Matthew Briggs continues to blink on our Fantasy radars. Briggs was given yet another start by Martin Jol for Fulham last night as the club continued their Europa League qualifying campaign, but played, this time, in left midfield. A left-back by trade, Briggs is a 4.0 defender in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and has been getting plenty game time so far under the new boss. Clint Dempsey’s return next week will perhaps give a better indication as to how Jol views matters- the American has been on holiday due to his international exertions with the US this summer.

Stoke’s first foray into Europe for thirty-seven years saw the club get off to a winning start. The 1-0 win over Hajduk Split saw Jonathan Walters grab the game’s only goal and once again remind us of his potential as an out-of-position player this upcoming season. Walters was fielded mostly as a forward by Tony Pulis last term but has, once again, been classified as a midfielder by FPL, and a relatively cheap one (6.0) at that. Judging by last night’s line-up, Walters looks set to continue up front next season, partnering Kenwyne Jones in Pulis’ standard 4-4-2 and may well prove to be a real Fantasy bargain in 2011/12.

Following his side’s goalless draw at Southend last night, Paul Lambert confirmed both Elliott Ward and James Vaughan will miss the start of next season. Lambert was particularly impressed by debutant Kyle Naughton- the on-loan Tottenham full-back should be an integral member of the Canaries first XI in the upcoming campaign but priced at 4.5, is the costliest Norwich defender available, alongside fellow loan signing Ritchie De Laet.

Roberto Martinez continues to lavish praise on Victor Moses. Having been given a starting role in light of Charles N’Zogbia’s imminent move to Aston Villa, the youngster has now scored three times in pre-season and looks set to become a key figure for Wigan next season in his manager’s eyes.

He’s a special talent. Charlie has left a big hole in our team but that vacancy is a big opportunity for Victor and maybe a couple of other players to step up. Victor is a different kind of player to Charlie but has the same quality that sets players like that apart from the rest.’

Priced at a mere 5.0 in FPL, Fantasy managers are eyeing Moses up with intent right now, particularly given the kind start to the season that sees the club play all three promoted sides in their first three games (NOR, swa, QPR).

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

No idea, and anyone who says they do is lying (although it is quite likely they will get off to a good start, but whether thats a good start fantasy points wise as well is the real question).

Far too much uncertainty over places and formation, makes it very difficult to know who to pick. (which is annoying as the fixtures are very decent)

First of all I would identify which players and teams had a good season
the year before, then ask yourself
whether those teams have lost or
gained players that might effect this
seasons performance. Obviously try and go for players who
will be regulars unless injured - that
can save you from making too many
transfers too early. Keep an eye out for
those set piece takers too, as they can
rack up the points for assists as well as goals. Finally, try not to pick players from
your own team out of misguided
loyalty - it doesn't always work out

Ok quick bit of advice to free up some funds for the big players...this is based on advice i've been given over the last week.

Get Taarabt and sinclair (total cost 12m) in midfield.....early fixtures are great and rotate perfectly. If this risk doesn't pay off move these lads on for the perhaps cheaper alternatives that may materialise.

Get three cheap defenders from the highly rotatable combo of Sun - New - Fulham. I've gone for a 5m,4.5,4m combo. (Total cost 13.5) I reckon it can be done even cheaper if you want to take a punt on Briggs.

I did try to reply to you yesterday, but I think you were gone by the time I'd replied. Anyway, you're going for Cashley & Kompany, with three cheapy rotating, right?

I'm doing exactly that, and mine are Givet, Elokobi & Simpson for a combined cost of £13M. To me Blackburn (although Givet is only used about twice), Wolves & Newcastle do rotate pretty nicely until GW11, which is when I plan to WC.

It's pretty decent, and cheap as chips. I've gone for Elokobi at the moment, but that can change once I know who should actually be a permanent £4.5M in their back four. Although I doubt any manager would have the balls to drop Elokobi...

Other two are the same as everyone else. Cole and Kompany. Kompany is best value in a proven defensive team. He is likely to get bonus too. Season keeper and i'll play him every week.

ACole locks into Chelsea's clean sheets with an occasional assist (possibly even a goal) as a nice bonus. Also gives scope to get Baines or a Man Utd def later.

Hi guys, I was looking at this Suarez lad who plays for Liverpool and currently he is in over 40% of teams so even if you think he does not play the opening game you surely have to have him because by gw2 his value will surely have gone up at least .5 Any thoughts?

After the first gameweek starts, a certain number of people will have to buy him for his price to rise .1m.

It's very rare for a player to go up by more than .2 in a gameweek, and rare enough for a .2m rise in the first place.

But the fact is, the greater the number of people who own a player, the less likely a rise is. In fact, it's way more likely he'll fall in value.

Think this is the (possible) final lineup

    Given (Ruddy)
    Alcaraz Kompany Jagielka (Simpson Orr)
    Nasri Yaya VDV Taarabt (Moses)
    Bent RVP Holt

No Man U or Liverpool there, but I just can't predict who they'll start regularly.

    Cack or on track?

hughes might come under pressure from senderos
Holt is not going to get many (he scored a lot of headers last year)
Yaya is not a big scoring player
        Jagielka's attacking points are limited
        RVP's start is difficult

          A.COLE Kompany Jagielka (Simpson Orr)
          SESSEGNON Yaya VDV Taarabt (Moses)
          Bent RVP Holt

          Dropped Nasri and Hughes

I think RVP is fixture proof, he tends to score against anyone

This is for the TFF game so no subs, which option do you think is the best?

    A) Baines
    Malouda, Dempsey

    B) Riise
    Lampard and one of dempsey/nasri/valencia/downing

Sacrificing Baines for Riise, frees up loads of cash for midfield but probably not as well rounded.. If malouda doesn't play though, no subs will come on to replace him, lampard will at least be nailed on first team despite playing deep.

    RVP vs Rooney debate:
    - Speaking about the initial team and the first 3 fixtures, I believe after GW 3 RVP is better option.

Fixtures: new LIV mun - RVP
    wba TOT ARS - Rooney

First games are like similar, but having in mind New Ars last year and that 4:4 I feel more comfortable to captain RVP in GW 1 (Cause Obviously Suarez is out). WBA will be more defensive side with WOY.

But then we have two home games for Roonster in which I definitely see goals. In GW 2 and 3 Arsenal could score lets say 2 goals in total, so looks like ROonster is better option.

Both of them are penalty takers but RVP is more offensive, looks like, that huge debate aside, Rooney is playing in the Fabs role. More important everything in Ars goes throw RVP and Utd has plenty of options. I believe also Rooney has higher chance to assist then to score. That happened in the pre season games. Considering preseason games, correct me if I am wrong, but RVP didn't see plenty of action and Utd seems like in form and scoring for fun.

Cheers and thanks for opinionin and I would ask if is possible opinion to be given purely on fantasy aspect, not depending if u r Utd or Ars fan.

Im going with RVP - he tends to be involved in the majority of Arsenal's good work up front - United have so many other attacking threats to Rooney that he can quite easily have no involvement in their goals (he plays deeper than RVP too).

      Just my opinion of course.

Rooney definitely has the better fixtures but I wouldn't be so sure about Suarez not making the first game of the season. Also - pre-season games don't mean all that much. I remember last season Chelsea looked awful in pre-season and then proceeded to win their first 2 games 6-0 and score 21 goals in their first 5 games

Probably a little early in the day to ask this question, guessing the American ffs crew are still in bed but anyone else think that the sacking of Bob Bradley has more to do with stuff behind the scenes than actual results on the pitch. What exactly is expected of the U.S team? I think they punch well above their weight(probably shouldn't mention Americans and weight)on the world stage.
