There’s plenty of Premier League clubs in action this afternoon, as pre-season starts to pick up the pace. Ahead of an afternoon in front of the tv with the Emirates Cup and Dublin Super Cup served up as weekend offerings, here’s this morning’s Scout Scribbles:

Roberto Mancini has warned his Premier League rivals that the signing of Sergio Aguero won’t be Man City’s last this summer. Speaking in a press conference ahead of this weekend’s Dublin Super Cup, the Italian explained:

If we want to compete with all the other top teams – Champions League or Premier League – we need other players, but the club are working in this way.

When asked what positions he felt the club needed to bolster, Mancini elaborated:

“One midfielder, one winger.”

This statement will only add to the speculation of a move for Samir Nasri and perhaps further re-inforce the idea that Adam Johnson could be heading to Everton in a loan deal, with Mancini yet to be convinced by his young winger’s consistency, much to the chagrin of the City fans.

James Collins has spoken at length of the new defensive solidity shown by Aston Villa in pre-season. Villa were something of a disappointment in terms of Fantasy investment last season, racking up just 7 clean sheets compared to 15 in the previous 2009/10 campaign but, under new boss Alex McLeish, are looking a better proposition at the back already.

Collins points to the re-introduction of Stephen Warnock to the starting XI as a significant boost to the side, saying:

Stephen had come back in and he’s been great. Obviously when he wasn’t in the team last season, you could still see in training he was still keen to show his qualities. Since he’s been back in, the two games he’s played and in training he’s looked first-class again. So that is like a new signing if you like. I am looking forward to playing with him again.

Warnock played just half Villa’s league games last season and as a result, comes in at 5.0, compared to the 5.5 of Collins and fellow centre-half Richard Dunne.

Aaron Ramsey looks likely to have a pivotal role for Arsenal in this weekend’s Emirates Cup. With Cesc Fabregas sidelined with a hamstring injury and Arsene Wenger concerned over his “unsettled” captain’s state of mind, Ramsey will take centre stage against the likes of Paris Saint Germain and New York Red Bulls over the next couple of days and spoke of his determination to make up for lost time, following his leg-break in February of last year. Playing in the advance central midfield role usually taken by Fabregas, many Fantasy managers will be eyeing up Ramsey ahead of next season; with a 6.5 FPL price-tag against his name, the young Welshman may be a steal.

In other Arsenal-related news, Arsene Wenger confirmed the news that Theo Walcott’s ankle injury is not as bad as the club had anticipated. Asked in yesterday’s press conference if the player will be ready for the start of the season in a fortnight’s time, Wenger replied that the club are hopeful on the matter. A bit of good news for the Gunners, then.

The idea of a Carlos Tevez/Samuel Eto’o swap deal has re-surfaced once again. Both Man City and Inter Milan are taking part in this weekend’s Dublin Super Cup and with Tevez desperate for a move away from the Etihad Stadium, City are reportedly determined to seal a deal for Eto’o, their long-term target.

A hamstring injury may have scuppered John O’Shea’s start to his Sunderland career, but Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is confident his new captain will be fit for the season opener at Liverpool:

I’ve got no worries about John. I’m not looking at risking him in our next two friendlies – it’s a case of erring on the right side caution….the knock he’s got is not a serious one. And he’s one of those players who can come into training and pick things up very quickly. As things stand, I’m sure he’ll be all right for the Liverpool game.

Great news, then, for Fantasy managers considering O’Shea ahead of the August 13th kick-off. Priced at 5.0 in FPL, we’re expecting big things from the Irishman this season, too; check out our Members Projections area to see just why.

QPR look set to boost their forward options by snapping up DJ Campbell from relegated Blackpool. Campbell was one of the best value Fantasy options last term, scoring 13 goals for Ian Holloway’s side, but while Blackpool were given license to attack by Holloway’s open 4-3-3 formation, QPR tend to operate far more tentatively, with a 4-2-3-1 shape set up to get the best out of Adel Taarabt. Campbell may well be vying with fellow new signing Jay Bothroyd for the lone forward slot, unless Neil Warnock has an alternative plan up his sleeve.

Spurs were the only Premier League club in action yesterday, chalking up a 4-1 win at Leyton Orient. Nico Krancjar continued his fantastic pre-season form by grabbing a goal, with Peter Crouch picking up a double in the one-sided affair. Krancjar is a real source of frustration for Fantasy managers- clearly, he’s got the talent but, in spite of his recent impressive form, it would be something of a surprise if he found his way into Harry Redknapp’s first-team thinking at Tottenham. At just 6.0, many will be hoping ‘Arry has a change of heart, particularly if Luka Modric does depart the Lane this summer.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      Needs work unfortunately.

      Downgrade Hart, Baines, Warnock, Figueroa

Upgrade up top. You need captaincy choices. You're not going to want to captain Baines.

    Given (Ruddy)
    Dunne Kompany Clichy Orr (Simpson)
    Sessegnon VDV Taarabt Malouda (Dyer)
    Aguero Rooney (Ranger)

Opinions? My only worries are how much playing time Aguero will get, and if I should swap our Rooney for RVP. (Probably won’t, Rooney has been too hot this preseason).

RVP is always one goal away from injury, Rooney is safer. Malouda won't start every game. A lot of money to sped on someone who isn't a definite starter.

No, towards the back end of last season he got rotated. The this year AVB is using benayoun a lot. With Anelka, Torres, Drogba, Kalou and mceachran - Molouda will not always be a certain starter. he'll gat a lot of games but not EVERY prem game which for over 10.0m is not good enough returns I'd say.

    Cech/Ruddy
Rafeal Kompany Hughes Simpson 4m (Orr or Gabbidon?)
    Malouda OHara Tarrabt Albrighton Dyer

Luiz will come in for Rafeal if he a sure starter, changing GK to Given/AlHabsi or begovic.
Dyer as 4.5 as i always play 3-4-3

Indifferent about Rafael, but many people, so each to his own.

I would go Orr over Gabbidon.

From what I have seen, I think Suarez will at most miss the first game week, but as we get closer to the beginning of the EPL I believe the in doubt of him not starting with disappear.

I had Hart for the bulk of last season and it was good. With price rises this year I agree with you on expensive goalies. I was just looking for the best way into chelsea defence. I want luiz but rotation question marks.
O'Hara - it is just a gut feeling i have. Cheap and wolves have gd games.
Aguero for Suarez i am really tempted by. What about bent?

Well if it's any consolation, I have Luiz at the moment.

I reckon he'll start. You don't spend 25 million Euros on a CB you won't play.

He's also very attacking and has great bonus point potential. I think his chances of holding down a centre spot are 75/25, and that's good enough for me.

Silva + Sinclair + Rodallega (Sinclair on bench 1st gw, Rodallega great starting 3 fixtures, Silva attac form Citeh)

    VS

Yaya + Moses + Suarez (Moses would go on bench cause other players in team althou hes ease starting fix, Suarez not a sure starter, Yaya might go DMC)

So its 1st option for me. What u think ?

    other mid is Malouda-Taarabt-N’Zogbia
    other att is Rooney-Holt

Sorry, I guess I was wrong. Your defense is fine actually (one of the better ones I've seen).

Up front somehow, it just seems lacking. I got a team with Cole and Kompany which included RVP, Aguero and VdV. I don't think Malouda, Silva and Rooney are as good.

Rodallega I'm not a huge fan of. Doesn't take penalties any more and plays for Wigan (I don't care how nice his fixtures are!)

I like Silva, but would I want to captain him every week? Probably not, same with Malouda.

You need a bench sitter. Moses could be good I suppose.

Make the changes. I like Suarez as a captain option.

              Tnx for analysis m8.

I must agree for Rodallega, but if i play my 1st option choice i have 0.5 in bank witch allows me to make Rodallega > Zamora. The problem with that was that Given is my keeper and gw1 ful vs villa :(. Although i prefer Zamora over Hugo.

As for VdV, iam a huge fan of him and could do Malouda > Vdv easily, especially since Malouda wont be nailed on starting. But, i would really like some Chelasea attacking cover for their start of season, dont u?

Aguero, not sure on him since i watch him play for new club. As for Rooney, i could swap to RVP, but think that Rooney hit pre-season form so that made my choice over there.

              As for (c),
              gw1 - Rooney
              gw2 - Malouda
gw3 - not sure yet, will have 2 subs available (maybe Odem) 🙂

Chelsea attack is nice, but I don't like any of their options much at the moment.

Malouda could be a rotation risk, and isn't on set pieces.

Lampard is too expensive, and could be playing too deep.

Nobody knows who's going to play RW or ST, so that's out of the question. I think it's best to wait and see.

Start with VdV like I am and have money in the bank to upgrade to Malouda.

I wouldn't be comfortable benching a 6.0+ player. That's 1.5 at least wasted on the bench, and all it takes is a penalty for them to score 7 points which you won't get.

Woodgate is always going to be risky with injury issues but I suppose you have him on your bench. Do you have any more money, if you want a Norwich MID I would be more tempted to go with Hoolahan than Surman. TOTs fixtures are not too appealing to start with and may make Bale a bit more risky?

So many options if you do choose to make a change, maybe go for Wilshere/Taraabt/Ramsay/Sessegnon and then could get Hoolahan as well?

When do you intend to play Woodgate? He has awful home fixtures, and no guarantee he will start. Not sure about Bale with his opening fixtures. I can see the attraction with Dempsey, but perhaps Duff would allow you to get in Malouda for Bale seeing as you have no Chelsea representation.

It is really funny how much 'RMTs' have Aguero in them lol I mean the guy could be a very expensive Bosselli, in fact even worse than Bosselli because at least the Boss was slamming home hat tricks in pre-season only to flop so hard in the Prem that the had to lone him out by Jan..........well on another note I like this news of Eto coming to the Prem, he is the best out and out striker on the planet for me and its good to have the best playing in the best league...the guy is a BEAST

Bit hypocritical really to say that of Aguero then say how amazing Eto'o would be 😛

Reckon they're both world class. It won't matter if they're playing on the moon, they'll still be good.

Well I never said Eto 'would be' amazing I just said he is a beast and would love to have such a great player in the Prem....I am also happy that Aguero is in the league too but from a fantasy point of view I just find it risky to have him in your opening team

I think his value is fine, his fixtures are fine, he takes penalties and he'll be in my team some time... but I imagine he's just a place or two shy of sneaking into my first three at the start of season.

By the time I wildcard in GW2, maybe then.

I'm tempted to start with him, probably due to the fact he kept scoring well for me at the end of the season against tough opponents when others benched him.... Can get blinkered by lucky gambles coming off I suppose!

I'm giving up. Too many players - not enough room/cash. Think I'm going to choose a GW1-specific team, then wildcard for GW2, with a better idea of who's in favour and who isn't.

Don't despair. You can make a decent team to last a few gameweeks.

Personally, I'm hoping to hold onto my wildcard until GW 9 when a new set of rotation kicks in.

Everton just arent great at the back and Jagielka doesnt exactly score many goals so i would get rid. Ive ranted about Hughes as well on here, Jol will make fulham more attacking and their defence will suffer. Everything else looks good though 🙂 3 good captain choices and decent players with different games. I'd just reconsider those two defenders 🙂
