King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In” door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Given/Al-Habsi
CAshley, OShea, Olsson, Orr, De Laet
NZog, Moses, NDyer, Silva, Big Frank
    Suarez, RVP, Holt

Where can I save cash, to give me some early weeks transfer funds:
    Al-Habsi to a 4.0 keeper = 0.5
    CAshley to Kompany = 1.5
    Holt to Smith/Graham = 0.5

    Good ideas?

Second but first serious season of FPL and new to this site.
First post, and I'm sorry to admit it is a RMT.

No big surprises either I guess but would likely take criticism or tips on my team pick.

    Here it goes:

    Given (Ruddy)
Vidic - Jose Enrique - Kompany (Orr, Wilkinson)
Malouda - Yaya Toure - Moses - Formica (Sessegnon)
    RVP - Rodallega - Bent

Thanks in advance and sorry for the spelling,

In your opinion, who do you rate as the most influential player in the Premier League in the past 3 seasons?

For me it would be Joe Hart - he has improved so much in the past 3 years, and has had a massive impact at each club he has played for.

Not so many here have him, but he'll probably be the most selected defender in the game in a week.

Brede Hangeland is out of the Norway squad after suffering a back injury. He'll surely miss the opener then, might be out longer.

Holt - had a great season with Norwich and is their main man for bulging the back of the net.

Orr - Nailed on cheap defender with some attacking threat.

Kompany - Nailed on starter in arguably the best defence in the league as a VERY reasonable price.

De Laet - On loan from MUFC, looks like a regular starter and grabbed a goal already pre-season.

Sess - Not sure about that one myself, as I have not considered him enough to look into too deepply, however I imagine he is the fulcrum of Sunderland's attacks as he is their most expensive MF

Over the last few days I've seem some funny backwards logic on this forum. Some examples:

Boselli failed last season -> don't pick players with good pre season form.

Adam was good -> promoted players are the answer

Villa lost their best players -> albrighton will get all their assists now and bent will score more than last season.

Any more? There are more for sure!

Yep - Moses will fill the void N'Zogbia left for Wigan.

Getting in both Rafael and Fabio is the best idea ever because if one is out, the other will come in.

Thinking you will be able to post a team that everyone on here likes and is flawless.

Good team, although I think you might be better ditching either downing or Carrol - bit too many eggs in a liverpool basket for my liking.

Maybe Bent for Carrol, although I can't decide on my last striker spot myself yet.

Given or foster, and why? I'm seconds away from finalising it....

Given. He is better, and Villa will concede far less than WBA, I would have thought.

Given. WB were terrible defensively last year and haven't bought any CB or R/LB so Foster won't do that well on his own there. Shay has a massive point to prove and Villa have McLeish as boss who is always hugely defensive.

Can someone give AVB a call and see if he is playing Bosingwa at RB. Also tell him Torres is crap so only play Drogba up front. Thanks.

That would be fantastic. Ideally, all managers would name teams at 9am on Saturday morning - or face points deductions.

I would prefer a personal email from each one giving the team and tactics for the match.

Can someone give cassanata a call and see if he knows what he's talking about? Oh, someone did? And he doesn't? In that case, lets ignore him.

I'll take it Torres is in your team then?

No, not yet. But he's not crap, and I'd be surprised if Bosingwa saw much game time.

Cheers for the info. And in fairness I did mean that as a joke I would choose Drogba or Torres if i knew 1 of them was a definate starter.

Torres = Best striker in the world on form

But a huge risk at the start of this season

lose Samba - unless Arsenal buy him. Blackburn are relegation candidates

played last night CB with hangeland with hughes out RB. Reckon thats the closest we'll know till 13th august cos it was a Euro qualifier.
