King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In” door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Can any rangers fans confirm that mcleish has and will be hugely defensive?

Just seems like he had a squad at Birmingham where the best option was to be defensive so I'd like to know how he was at other clubs before I jump on this 'villa are defensive now' bandwagon.

yeah he will be defensive, very deep back line. He'll give about three players freedom to get forward. It was Buffel, Prso, Novo at Rangers, Gardner, McFadden, Jerome with Brum.

Is it time to finally give up on Suarez for GW1, too much smoke and mirrors from the club and press I'd rather deal in the facts.

    Who fills the void though?

    Bent, Drogba, Gervinho, Carroll, Aguerro.

I can only see a guaranteed start for Bent and Carroll and I don't see much for Bent at the Cottage and I'm f*cked if I'm paying inflated prices like LFC for Carroll.

    Stuck.

If I had to choose between bent and Carroll I'd choose Carroll. I have neither in my team though.

Actually considering gyan myself. Unpopular choice I know but I've watched quite a bit of him and feel he can improve on last season (when he was pretty good anyway)

He seems nailed on like an anvil, but he doesn't seem that deserving...He has to be the slowest momentum gaining striker in the history of momentum, gaining or striking. But Johnson, silva and Yaya get him such juicy opportunities...

I'm looking at Gervinho, even though I do have RVP. I like the odds (and not Jack, or Ramsey or Rosicky) of those two both scoring points in the impending payback blow-out. I am just pretending that he is my mifdfielder for all intents and puposes. Drogba is very appealing though with him his nailed-onness is cloudy as well. Not a fan of Carroll...at all. I like Aguero and will be watching the community shield eagerly.

    Given, Kenny
    Kompany, Bramble, Alcaraz, Simpson, Hughes,
    Malouda, Silva, Taarabt, Formica, Moses
    Van Persie, Rooney, Johnson,

Am i relying too much on "the big 4". The defence looks really weak but i don't feel you can avoid Malouda or Silva due tothe fixtures and then Rooney and RVP can score against anyway so are almost "must haves".

Can probably find a better option than Andy Johnson though LOL.

That's ok but it means you have one wildcard left for 35 gws including inevitable dgws at the end.

Better to save your spare wildcard until you get some serious injuries or if you're lucky, for the dgws IMO

Evening sir! Meireles you say, I'm not really sure what the deal is with him, great second half of the season but like everyone in our centre mid, massive rotation risk. The unfortunate thing for him is he's not a Kenny signing, unlike Adam and Hendo who you would think will play. Their was talk of him going but that seems to have disappeared. I'd avoid personally, Downing would be the one I would go for (and may indeed do that) in our midfield. My prediction for our XI vs Sunderland as it stands:

          -------------Reina-------------
          Kelly Carra Agger Johnson
          Hendo Adam Lucas Downing
          ----------Kuyt Carroll---------

I'm thinking of starting maybe 4 or 5 in the back with either 2 or 3 Midfielders...and definitely 3 strikers...

Rafael Samba Alcaraz Jose Enrique Hangeland

If I go with four which one do you think I can drop (lets assume that they are ALL nailed on as starters GW1)?

If Rafael is out for the Community Shield I would not be surprised if Jones started right back for United for opening game, perfect chance for Fergie to have a reason to bench Rafael and see what Jones looks like at that position, he has already said he sees Jones playing a big part in the season.

So, they are not all nailed on starters, but Rafael could be benched in GW 1.

Understood, though it does seem he (jones) has been talking down RB as either to lessen the fall of not playing there or to truely put his bid in against 'he who is always crocked'. Also, (while I have you) I'm seeing the midget Cleverley being hyped, who is his major competition for this position...Anderson?

Anderson/Giggs in particular, if Berbatov stays it is always possible that Roondog could hang back here too, I actually expect United to sign a CAM still though, so wouldn't be considering Cleverley.

Baines Kompany Cashley(lots of cleanies and baps) Enrique(if we sign him) Simpson

Silva(quality) Taraabt(new Adam) Moses(punt) Hunt(a differential to most teams and I rate him as a player) Ferguson(dirt cheap who is good at benchwarming)

RVP(top quality) Balotelli(just for first two GWs, then out for Suarez) Johnson(best option for 5.5 and was apparantly sharp looking last night)

Right, I've decided to do this plan of pick a team for first 3 GWs then wildcard in the int'l break.
    Team is:
    Given Al Habsi
Ivanovic Agger De Laet Williams Orr
Silva (to Malouda GW2) Kuyt Moses Albrighton Sinclair
    Bent Carroll Rodallega
What do we think? Nearly all these players have 2 great fixtures in the first 3.
    Agger going to start?
Better options for the first 3 weeks?
I know it's a bit of a crazy tactic but I fancy having some fun and it may pay off!

    Foster
    Hughes Jagielka Dunne Samba
    Nani Silva Malouda Bale
    Gervinho Suarez

Subs: De Vries, Tiote, Simpson, C. Martin

I know my bench is shi*e, but I can live with it.

Foster - many saves = bonus points.
Hughes - 14 cs last season, schwarzer right behind him.
Jags - 9 cs last season, howard right behind him.
Dunne - 7 cs last year. With Given between the posts and Alex McLeish as a meneger I am expecting something around 10-12 cs this season.
Samba - 8 cs last season, Robinson right behind him.

Nani - pure class, yeah I know about rotation risk, so help me with it. Nani? Young? Valencia? Which of these will be the non-substitute one?

Silva - I think he might shine this season.
Malouda - hey, it's Chelsea... I don't know what's AVB up to but I think that Malouda will be week-in, week-out starter.
Bale - I am not absolutely convinced about this fella, maybe I should go for Valencia and take VdVaart instead of Bale?

Gervinho - it's a big IF, I know... but i think I'll take the risk.
Suarez - probably will miss gw1, but again... I'll take the risk.

    Thoughts?

    P.S

Sorry for my bad english 😛
