King Kenny to talk it over with Suarez before deciding if his main man starts. Dempsey returns to the Fulham fold as Senderos stakes a claim for centre-half. Norwich deny Holt to Leicester stories. Reports claim Torres will start the season on the bench and Arsenal reject a fresh Barcelona bid for Cesc Fabregas just this morning. Here’s today’s Scribbles:

Kenny Dalglish will decide on whether to start Luis Suarez next week after discussions with the player himself. Suarez reports for training in a few days time but, wary of the forward’s exertions in this summer’s Copa America, the Liverpool boss clearly does not want to over extend his star man:

He’ll be back next week some time. We’ll start thinking about him then. We’ll just see with Luis when he comes in. He’s had a fantastic summer. He should be pretty happy with himself and pretty confident looking forward to the start of the season.

We need to be careful with every player. So we’ll see how he is when he comes in and have a discussion with him. We can’t predict how he is going to be like.

Clint Dempsey made his first Fulham start under Martin Jol last night in the club’s Europa League match with RNK Split . Back after playing in the Gold Cup this summer, the American took the place of Matthew Briggs on the left of midfield. Jol also benched Chris Baird, moving Aaron Hughes to right-back and giving Philipe Senderos a chance to partner Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence.

The Hangeland-Hughes partnership central defensive pairing has offered plenty solidity in Fantasy terms over the past couple of seasons, though with Jol just through the “In” door, it’s perhaps too early to read deeply into last night’s XI. If Senderos is offered regular starts under Jol, however, a starting price of 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will surely tempt more than a few Fantasy managers.

Norwich have moved to deny stories suggesting Grant Holt is on his way to Leicester. Speculation arose yesterday that suggested the forward was set to join the Sven Goran Eriksson revolution but the Canaries have issued a statement saying:

“There is absolutely no truth at all in the stories saying we have accepted a bid for Grant Holt. Our captain is simply not for sale.”

Reports have surfaced this morning concerning Andre Villas-Boas’ first XI thoughts ahead of next weekend’s game at Stoke. Fernando Torres is set to be benched for the match at the Britannia, with Didier Drogba leading the line, flanked by Florent Malouda and, according to the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge is, of course, suspended for the first three games of the upcoming season, so the speculation is probably unfounded.

Darren Fletcher has taken part in his first training session since the end of last season. The midfielder has struggled to shake off the effects of a virus that sidelined him for a few months in 2010/11 and although he won’t be ready for first-team action just yet, his return will be a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Jonathan Woodgate played the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s Europa League match with Hajduk Split last night. Signed as a free agent after his contract at Spurs ran out, Woodgate comes in at 4.5 in FPL and if (big if, perhaps) he can stay injury-free, Woodgate could be something of a bargain next season, with Robert Huth at 6.0 and Ryan Shawcross at 5.0 in comparison.

Ah, the Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga. Reports this morning suggest the Spanish champions have had a new bid rejected by the Gunners. Arsenal are reportedly holding out for £40m and won’t budge on this one. Arsene Wenger will be hoping this deal comes to fruition one way or another soon- the nightmare scenario for Arsenal would be a final-day transfer away from the Emirates for Fabregas, giving the Gunners plenty cash but no time to spend it.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

He isn't, I expect him to be loaned out for a season, he's one for the future, like Courtois and Piazon, not for right now, hardly any chance of him being involved for us this season.

Whats the general consensus on Tim Cahill??

Notoriously slow starters I know, but hes a proven goalscorer in midfield, at a okayish price in 9m and some nice fixtures to start off with.

Hw always does well but I never have him at the start of a season for some reason - and just a touch expensive, should have been 8.5 really.

I've got similar thinking about Kuyt, especially under new BP system he could score very big but I have no idea where he fits in the new squad or if he'll be a rotation/sub magnet.

that's fair, just stating the case for moses. pre-season always needs to be taken with a pinch of salt but when your team scores 7 goals and you score 4 of them and assist 2 of the other 3 then that's quite significant imo. not to pick moses necessarily, but if you want a wigan player to go with moses.
however rodallega didn't play any of those days so confused.com

agree with all that, for me the greater value to be found in midfield means its easier to take the punt on moses and therefore more difficult to justify a strikers spot for rodders

Moses is doing a fine Boselli impression and he has every chance of crashing and burning. And all in the hope of catching the Zaki of 2011/12.

          Let's see
          1) Plays for Wigan - check
          2) Plays against a promoted side - check
          3) Strong pre-season - check
          4) Owned by a relatively small group (many of them FFS readers)

If Wigan perform like they did last year against Blackpool, you'll be able to buy Moses for 4.5m by GW 4.

As I recall, I acquired Zaki in GW 3 back in the day. Cost me 6.0m - his starting price - and he went on a scoring spree. So if you have Moses, you are taking a risk. If not, you can easily buy him later for little or no extra expense.

Albrighton may just outperform Nzogbia early days. Got to think that Young and Downing are gone, plenty more chances for albrighton to provide service for Bent down the flanks.

Also, think of the value effect if Nzogbia does not play week 1? There have been reports of his below par fitness last 48 hours.

He hasnt started much in pre seaon with Balo Dzeko Silva front 3. He wont start week 1 based on this.

probably play it safe and go rvp. but i echo DB's thoughts on dzeko. i reckon having dzeko with enough in the bank to turn him into suarez, torres, drogba, bent, whoever in gw2 could work well. if dzeko starts gw1 i want him in my side, when he play he plays as the most advanced striker. also if he starts and fires you can keep him for the immediate future, if notthen it's easy to cut your losses and have the money to get a chelsea striker for gw2

That's my other option for if N'zog ain't fit. Go with Albrighton and stick 1m in the bank to either upgrade him or swap Carrol for a Chelsea boy depending on how things go in GW1

I don't think he will start, maybe on a sub. I think it's one price drop you could afford provided you stick with him and have a decent enough squad for the 1st 2 to 3 weeks. Unless, you're planning on using your wildcard early doors then its a saved tranfer when he inevitably starts getting the regular 90 mins.

well i was thinking more along the lines of palying cole and kompany every week, and de laet and bramble go pretty well between them in rotating with enrique. not sure if simpson holds any value- theyre in pieces for a start but more importantly, they were better at getting cleanies away from home, when i would never pick him in my team. a frustrating conundrum.

I see your point. I can't imagine Norwich being much better than Newcastle really though.

In all fairness its a decision that is unlikely to affect you in the grand scheme of things.

I've gone with Wilkinson as 4m cheapie. I know not completely nailed on but rather have a Stoke defender ahead of the other teams with 4m defs. Plus he's unlikely to be subbed on so if I select him and he doesn't play...soemone else will auto in.

Nice, RVP for me over Rooney and I think Carrol is better bet than Bent for GW1 but that's just my opinion. There's no real weak link, rotation risks.

RVP is an interesting on for me, and a ball ache. i love him more than anyone (and will get him in GW4 regardless), i was just comparing his fixtures. Liv at home aint great and man u away is awful.

For Roon- WBA- i see goals, and man u are fixture proof at home- regardless of spurs and ars. i havent got the ballbag for drog/torres.

Any Opinions on these 2 options:

    A Given (De Vries)

    Baines, Luiz, Kompany (O'Shea, Simpson)

Moses, Silva (vc,) Taarabat, NZog, (Sinclair)

    V Persie (c), Suarez, Holt

    OR

    B
    Given (De Vries)

    O'Shea, Luiz, Kompany, (Enrique, Simpson)

    VdV(vc), Silva(c), Taarabat, NZog, (Sinclair)

    Bent, Suarez, Holt

So effectively i am deciding between:
    A) VP, Baines, Moses or
    B) Bent VdV, Enrique (or another £5 mil defender if he doesn't leave).

My feelings are that I have to have VP in there and Baines was so consistant last year. My other option is to drop Silva for VdV after 4 gameweeks?

Moses, Taraabt and Sinclair are all punts in my opinion. Leaving your midfield a bit light of safe returns.
Id wait and see a couple of gameweeks before picking one from the new teams.

I know what you mean about the punts, its quite high risk, but i am struggling for reliable midfield performers that aren't susceptable to rotation, hence steering clear of liv, chels and man utd. I was looking for the primary set piece takers, ideally i would like one more experienced player in thereat the sub £8m level

Rafael is not 100% and won't play in the Charity Shield.

Not convinced Clichy is worth it and will be rotated. Kompany for the same 6M, no?

Murphy starting and NZogs on the bench? I am thinking of captaining NZogs as a differentiator early on.

      Toure for 8M too?

Nice Mid and Fwds but the defence is a wee bit stinky.
I like Gibbs as a pick but not until after GW 3 - can he stay fit for more than 3 games?
Luiz is a risk - I wouldn't start with him.

Taarabt is not unproven in the Premier League.
He was a proven failure at Spurs and will now be getting marked twice as hard because managers know that if you shut him up the team will do nothing, which is exactly what I expect from him and QPR.

He was hardly a proven failure. He was a teenager.

His talent is unquestionalble. I think he will be a slow starter in the prem for QPR but may gradually wrack up points through assists and pens. He's going to be dangerous at Loftus Road no doubt about it. £6.5 is expensive though. Ive taken Pennant who is proven assists instead.

Going for a strong midfield in this one with minimal rotation risk for the forst month of the season. VDV's fixtures arent the best but he's a settled player who takes pens, FKs and corners. Two city defenders but i suppose clichy is a few mil cheaper than Hart for the same potential clean sheet.

    given/ruddy
    Kompany / Clichy / Senderos
    Kuyt / Malouda / VDV / Pennant / Moses
    Caroll / Balotelli / Johnson

Avoided outfield promoted players. May bring in lucas as a sub mid if he does well on the bonus system.

Bit dissapointing you cant rely on Man utd wingers starting. Im sure they will all score highly but no doubt when you choose on they will suffer a run on the bench!

    Hello,

Would anyone like to enter a money league? will be $30 to enter which is around 18 pounds and if we can get 30 members the payouts will be a follows

    1st: $360
    2nd: $225
    3rd: $160
    4th: $100
    5th: $55

the money will be 100% secure as we will be using a site specially designed for fantasy money leagues called leaguesafe.com where they keep the money and then pay it out at the end, so if you are interested reply with your email address and i will send you the league code and an invite to use on leaguesafe.

Count me in, I just won the Nigerian national lottery so I have money to burn.

Do you want my account, sort, pin number, address, NI number also?

http://www.leaguesafe.com this is the website, you pay the money into there they then pay it out, and it has to be voted on that the payouts are correct, I use this for my NFL league and it is 100% safe, i will never have the money nor have control over where the money goes,

How do we know you don't have 20 mates in the league already? control the majority of votes, and it basically puts an extra $300 for you to share out.

Seems like you get sent a VISA card from the US with the money loaded onto it, not a transfer into your account.

I dont trust the royal mail enough with hundreds of pounds of winnings!

what is wrong with wanting to do a money league? as i have shown above it is 100% safe and it means everyone plays till the end and you have active players.

It isn't 100% safe, it has loads of unknowns. I'd only do it with people I know, and personally, I wouldn't even bother doing that.

Because it clogs up this board its nothing to do with the money issue.

Speak to to admins in trying to get a seperate area for joining league - nothing wrong with that..I want to read pick theorys that have reasoning behind them, that can in turn be debated.

Iv got a pretty similar side to you..instead iv got Bent over Holt, Sess over Nzog for now and Downing over Malouda + 1m in the bank.. Dont you think Malouda is a bit of a rotation risk? Great defence btw!

Where exactly does this Walters fellow play? Looking at his chalkboards for last seasons final few games, he's all over the place, but doesn't look like a striker.

I don't like to be a pessimist but I see a lot of people moaning on here after GW1 when players like Luiz, Gibbs and poss Rafael may not start. There is a reason why the fpl priced them low

    Thoughts?

Reckon Gibbs is likely to start, other 2 more of a risk. Only other option at LB for Arsenal would be Vermalen? and that would be a waste!

My thoughts are you are correct. The pricing does always give an indication as to who the sure staters will be and people choose to ignore that.

Players like Luiz, Gibbs and Rafael are just for the managers who couldn't afford Cole, Terry, Vidic etc because they wanted to soup up their frontline or midfield a bit more.

My advice is to try and ensure as much as possible before GW1 that you have 15 starters.
