Wesley Sneijder admits to United talks, however unofficial. Marouanne Chamakh reckons Fabregas and Nasri are heading out the Emirates. Harry Redknapp turns to Real Madrid as he eyes up an old acquaintance. Wolves to assess Kevin Doyle’s fitness. Stoke sign yet another centre-half and Roy Hodgson’s thrilled to bits with Shane Long. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Wesley Sneijder admitted yesterday that he’s been in contact with Man United over a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. The Dutchman has been strongly linked with a move to the champions but with Inter looking for a deal rumoured to be in the region of £35m, there’s been little progress up to now. When asked if fancied a move to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, Sneijder replied:

“Yes but Manchester United haven’t made an official approach yet. There have been unofficial talks, there have been contacts but then there are always contacts. I have contacts with everybody.”

Spurs are rumoured to be eyeing up a move for Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra. The former Arsenal player is unwanted at the Bernabeu and has already been signed by Harry Redknapp before- the Tottenham gaffer brought Diarra to Portsmouth during his tenure at Fratton Park. With Steven Pienaar ruled out for six weeks with a groin injury this week, Redknapp is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Wolves are to reassess the fitness of Kevin Doyle after the striker was sent home from the Republic of Ireland squad. The forward played just less than an hour in Wolves’ recent win over Real Zaragoza but his international manager Giovanni Trapatonni has stated the player is “not 100% fitâ€. With the season about to kick off, the last thing Mick McCarthy needs is his star forward back on the sidelines once again.

Arsene Wenger has named both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the play-off with Udinese. If either player takes part, they would be unable to participate in the competition for any other club in 2011/12. Gunners forward Marouanne Chamakh has had his say on the matter, and it seems even the feeling within the dressing room is one of resignation over the pair’s departure:

I think Cesc and Nasri will probably leave the club. I do not believe that the money available for these two players is really the crux of the problem. I just think the manager wants to find reliable replacements.

Stoke grabbed their second free transfer centre-half of the summer by acquiring Matthew Upson from West Ham yesterday. He joins Jonathan Woodgate at the Britannia, after the ex-Spurs’ player failed to have his contract renewed at White Hart Lane, and gives Tony Pulis an abundance of cover in the heart of defence. With the Potters playing in Europe this season, Pulis was keen to draft in extra defensive cover, he told the club’s official website:

We now have strength in depth in our defence with both Matthew and Jonathan on board and we’ve managed to achieve that without significant outlay on transfer fees, which is quite remarkable in today’s market of vastly-inflated prices.Their experience of performing at the highest level will be a valuable asset to us.

Robbie Keane is on the verge of a move away from Tottenham. The Irishman was farmed out on loan to West Ham in the second half of last season and is clearly not part of Harry Redknapp’s plans for the future. Keane said yesterday:

It’s probably likely that I will be going but I can’t really answer where to at the moment. There’s obviously a lot of speculation but there’s still a couple of weeks to go and we’ll see what happens. I haven’t turned down anything. I think there’s a few people talking to the clubs but that’s all I can really say at the moment.

Roy Hodgson was clearly delighted after snapping up Shane Long from Reading. The West Brom boss finally ended his summer pursuit of the forward by signing the Irishman on a three-year deal and in doing so, now feels his Baggies squad is close to completion. Hodgson said yesterday:

Shane is one of the most talented young strikers outside of the Premier League. He is a goalscorer and a hard-working player who has a very good attitude to the game. Many other clubs have shown an interest in Shane and it is great that we have managed to acquire his services.

Hmm. How many players in City's starting XI (including Nasri say) count as English under the new rules?

    Say you have:

    Hart
    Richards Kompany Lescott Kolorov
    Toure ???
    Nasri Aguero Silva
    Tevez

    That's 4, right?

I have a feeling SAF is buying up all the best English prospects so there's nothing left for the other teams when they HAVE to get English players... Just a feeling though.

Seeing as every team looks the same, a semi-serious attempt at something different but viable(?):

    Reina - Howard
    Lescott - Agger - Jagielka - Rangel - Gabbidon

    Currently have
    Given/Ruddy
    Orr/Cole/Kompany/Enrique/Bardlsey
    O’Hara/Moses/Brunt/N’Zogbia/Nani
    Rooney/Zamora/Carroll

Still unsure on the defense and was playing around with the idea of
    Simpson/Cole/Kompany/Hughes/Bardsley
    Or Orr/Baines/Lescott/Simpson/Bardsley

Also was unsure whether to go with
    Nani/Carroll
    or
    Malouda/Suarez
And I'm playing around with the idea of Carroll/Nani/Brunt -> Suarez/Benayoun/Silva

If London games do get postponed I’ll probably change to something like
N’Zogbia/Carroll/Zamora -> Silva/Holt/Suarez and just leave in Given and orr…

I thought I was happy with my side ğŸ™

Is this defence a bit too much?

    Kompany – 6.0 Enrique – 5.0 Jagielka – 5.5 Warnock – 5.0 Orr – 4.0

With all the injuries and black clouds looming over GW1, I’m quite happy with a front 3 of Carroll, Holt & Rodellega. This freeing up a lot of funds.

However, will I regret selecting such an expensive defence?

Any advise would really help. Cheers lads.

OK - after about 500 tweaks I'm almost there. 11 of my 14 are now set, just trying to decide the last 3. What do you think?

    A: Luiz, N'Zog, Nani
    OR
    B: Ivanovic, Albrighton, Malouda
    OR
C: Any better ideas? E.g. Tarrabt instead of N'Zog/Albrighton?

Concerned about lack of Utd cover if I go with latter option, but aware that Chelsea's early fixtures are better...

Other key question - is N'Zog worth £1m more than Albrighton?

    CURRENT TEAM:

    Al-Habsi (Given)
Luiz, Hughes, Kompany (S Taylor, Orr)
    N'Zog, Moses, Silva, Nani (O'Hara)
    Suarez, Bent, Zamora

Has anyone seen Vuckic for Newcastle in pre-season? He's been impressive enough and might be a cheap but viable punt. However, I'm thinking that Obertan might damage his prospects.

Just that Obertan isn't Messi, so if he's keeping Vuckic out of the team you'd have to wonder how good Vuckic is.

    Team B

All these RMTs are combinations of the same 25 players. Every now and then there is one with a different name in there, but not often. What feedback are people expecting to get with the same old players?

    Hey guys

    Just a quick one

    Kompany or Lescott?

I think everyone in the league is picking kompany but if Lescott starts he will have more chance of scoring won't he

I got given and al-habsi ATM so if I swap al-habsi for a cheapo keeper like ruddy I can upgrade kompany to Lescott?

I think if I've got a Norwich keeper chances are I will play given the whole time?

Who is the best 4.0 keeper to go for?

But yeah Lescott is a beast that's for sure, that's sorted out with kompany(in every RMT I see)

And in with the beast that is Joleon Lescott 🙂

Thinking about it. Was decent in the CS, could be good if employed in the right manner. Not as subject to rotation as the wide players, especially with Fletcher still feeling the effects of that virus.

Anderson has never been a assist/goal machine he sits and moves the ball on... I would say he'll play but not a great FFP scorer.

United coverage for me is Nani - the guy can do something out of nothing and is nailed on to start (Fergie said this after CS)

I'm thinking I should fit one in considering fixtures. Baines, osman & cahill are in my thoughts

Osman had a great end to last season. It's not unreasonable at 7m is it?

I'm going with Baines. Other than that I'm staying clear, although I think Everton could have a decent start this season. There is no pressure on the players what so ever, expectations are really low who ever you ask.

Billy Baines for me. Easy to downgrade if he's not looking too hot.

I reckon Beckford could be a pretty good shout this season but as you mentioned it would probably be wise to hold on until they show their form.

Give us the rundown on the Everton strikers please.

Is Saha injured as usual? What about Gueye, I kind of like him? Beckford at 6.5 isn't a bad punt but will he play?

One thing I have been looking at is Kuyt to Cahill GW2, leaves with 1.5 (.5 in the bank) to do Drogs to RVP GW4

There are a few people on here me included that are trying to get this bandwagon started. Not going too fast as the moment though. I think he will start for the first few gameweeks but its a risk.

Currently he's in my team and at 5.5, if he plays I will be very happy with my team, which is saying a lot this season. I thought Ivanovic and Luiz were carrying knocks?!

Ivanovic will be fine i'd say. Its an injury to get him out of international duty. AVB hasn't had Luiz in preseason and Alex looks on his way out. So i am putting him in for a few weeks but don't expect hime to be there long term.

Yeah I think thats where I am at....try him out and I will be very happy if I can get a couple of weeks out of him whilst I try and figure out who is the United r.back.

            Where is Alex off to?
