Jose Enrique is set for a move to Liverpool this morning. The Cesc Fabregas saga is almost over and Samir Nasri is also on the verge of an Emirates exit. Frank Lampard recovers from a throat infection ahead of the season opener at Stoke while Fernando Torres’ concussion places question marks against his availability. Steve Bruce eyes up the Spurs squad and Alex McLeish hints at a role for Emile Heskey. Here’s the Scribbles for today, folks:

It seems Cesc Fabregas’s move to Barcelona is near completion. The La Liga champions’ two-year chase for the playmaker’s services could be tied up as early as this weekend, with Fabregas’ willingness to redirect a portion of his earnings Arsenal’s way reportedly proving key to the £40m transfer. Aaron Ramsey has looked more than capable as a replacement over the close season and – at 6.5 in FPL (Fantasy Premier League) – Fantasy managers will have their fingers crossed that Arsene Wenger allows the young Welshman the chance to nail down the role as his own.

With Samir Nasri’s move to Man City also on the cards, the Gunners boss will have plenty money to spend before the end of August and reports this morning suggest Wenger has made a move for Birmingham’s Scott Dann as he looks to address a weakness as centre-half.

Jose Enrique looks set for a move to Liverpool. With the left-back having just a year left on his contract, reports indicate the clubs have this morning agreed a fee for his services and a deal could be completed as early as today.

Frank Lampard looks likely to play this weekend, having recovered from a throat infection. The illness had caused him to withdraw from the England squad against Holland earlier in the week but a return to training yesterday suggests he’s well on the road to recovery ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Britannia.

Chelsea will be fretting over the availability of Fernando Torres after the striker was taken to hospital with concussion last night. The forward was withdrawn after just 15 minutes in Spain’s 2-1 defeat to Italy and the club should find out today whether he’ll be available for the weekend. If Torres is sidelined, it promotes Didier Drogba into our Fantasy thinking, with the big Ivorian leading the line for Andre Villas-Boas’ team at Stoke.

Despite an impressive pre-season, it appears Yossi Benayoun is still surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge. Reports today suggest the Israeli could be used as a makeweight in Chelsea’s bid for Luka Modric, though Newcastle are also believed to be waiting in the wings as Alan Pardew continues to restructure his first-team squad.

Steve Bruce seems to have been bitten by the transfer bug. Ten players have already made their way to Sunderland this close season but the Black Cats boss has confirmed he’s eyeing up a loan swoop for Tottenham’s Niko Krancjar.

Lucas has declared himself fit and ready to start for Liverpool this weekend. Despite his participation in last month’s Copa America, the Brazilian is desperate to play against Sunderland, saying:

I’m fit. I didn’t have a full holiday and was training with the national team, so it won’t be a problem for me to be available for Saturday. I am really excited to be back and really looking forward to the new season. We’re in a good mood at the moment and hopefully we’ll start well on Saturday.

Alex McLeish has confirmed Emile Heskey has a role to play for Aston Villa this season. The forward is in the final year of his contract but Big Eck reckons his experience could be valuable over the upcoming months for the Midlands club.

“Discarding his kind of knowledge and his skills would be crazy. I have to tap into a guy like that. I have to use him to the full. There is no guarantee that Emile will play every week – but he has certainly impressed me.”

I've already asked this but on another thread but which of the 2 is the more appealing option:

    Ivanovic and Drogba

    or

    Bosingwa and Van Persie

    Thanks

Ivanovic is injured and Van Persie is a doubt...so I'd go with B.

How much did Suarez and Carroll play together last season? I seem to remember Kuyt playing up front towards the end?

Does anyone think that Carroll will take away some points from Saurez or maybe the system to get them both in th starting 11 wont suit him so much and as a result less returns?

Hard to know i guess, but i think there is a chance of this. What do you think?

Kuyt played most games as Carroll had a troublesome injury after signing and was more than "eased" back into the fold by Dalglish.

I think Suarez's output will remain much the same though if not better having a large target man to link up with. At 9.5m, Suarez shoul be the best value forward this season imo.

Not much at all mate, mainly down to Carroll's fitness though. They'll probably both start when available. Carroll up top, Suarez just withdran from him for knock downs and his mazy runs, with Downing on the left and an interchangable midfield 3 behind. I think they'll bith do well. Carroll will beneifit from the fact Suarez can be very selfless in tight situations, Suarez from Carroll's knock downs and general problems he'll cause.

      Hey herman,

It was an absolute peach... however it was against the Faroes so don't want to get too carried away.

He is one of Northern Ireland's best players but isn't talked about too often by the green and white army because he plays for Celtic. Great player though.

Hey all, been tinkering with my squad for a bit now and think I'm nearly settled... Would appreciate some thoughts -

    Given / Begovic
    Kompany / Smalling / Jagielka / Alex / Enrique
    Nani / Sessegnon / N'Zogbia / Taarabt / Vuckic
    Gervinho / Zamora / Suarez

    * Alternative to Alex/Jag?
    * Vuckic likely to get time?
    * Worth using 1.5m left to go with Drogs over Suarez?
    * Or invest the 1.5m somewhere else?

Cheers all and good luck with the season hey.

Let's see how many questions we can answer

    1) We will find out if any other games are cancelled around 6pm tonight

    2) I'd bench baines if you were that intent on having him anyway

    3) Enrique has gone to Liverpool but unlikely to play this weekend so wait on him

    4) Ramsey has potential but probably wait until GW4 to be sure!

    5) Senderos may well start as CB with Hughes in at RB but no-one knows for sure

    6) No Briggs won't start

    7) Dzeko should start up front for Man City, the other striker? anyones guess

    8) Rafael / Fabio / Smalling will rotate the RB position at United

    9) Anderson is a no go for Utd if Sneijder signs. I don't think he will return many points it he doesn't sign

    10) Malouda shouldn't suffer from much rotation

    11) Drogba will probably start GW1, after that is anyones guess

    12) You're right Moses is a great captains choice!

    13) Chelseas backline is currently looking like - Bosingwa Alex Terry Cole for GW1

    14) Best 5.5m striker? Lots have their benefits. I'm going Holt as he's on pens and will definitely start.

    15) We're still unsure whether Suarez will start. Probably easier getting Caroll and downgrading rather than getting Suarez and then having to sell!

    16) RVP will probably start

    17) Where's Boom been recently? Not sure, I was just wondering that myself

Holt on penalties for attacking side – near guaranteed starter but unproven in prem league

DJ Campbell – high scoring striker in prem league last year, but may face compettion for starts with Bothroyd and how attacking are QPR?

A.Johnson – Proven prem league experience for a good side, and a good pre-season, but has never lived up to expectations and may struggle to get starts with Dembele & Zamora

Take your pick or look at 5 mil graham for Swansea (also unproven), or up it to 6mil for a proven player…

Shane is a great attacking footballer but not a left back. I got the chance to play some 5-a-side with him when he was back home and he said how he doesn't want to be a LB, but you play where you are told if you get the chance to play for a PL club.

Safe to say he destroyed us all that night, playing on the left wing, even for someone who looks 12 years old. He's not even half the size of Enrique 🙂

Measuring bandwagons. The Community Shield game seems to have made the following impact so far (change in ownership):
Nani up from 14.8% to 31.2%
Lescott up from 2.8% to 6.4%
Dzeko up from 1.6% to 4.4%
Smalling up from 1.9% to 4.7%
Kompany up from 22.7% to 24.4%
As we can see, the ownership of all the goalscorers more than doubled. Hence, all the moaning like "so annoyed my differential is gone now" during the game on Sunday has proved to be justified.

SAF reasurrance that Nani will start might have had abit of an impact of the nani bandwaggon too. Still not convinced there will be some rotation going on so for now my team is Nani free.

but with nani I think a lot of the rise can be attributed to the fact that Fergie said "he will start the season", which is more significant than his great performance in my opinion.

A few advice would be very much appreciated.

    A) RVP, A Johnson, Obertan and Brown

    or

    B) Gervinho, Zamora, Ohara and Enrique

Don't know what to expect out of Gervinho, but could pay off.

        Big Berbatov fan.

If it wasn't for Nani, then Berba would easily be the best player on ManUnited.

Unmatched size and pace, blessed with the vision of Zidane ( or 20 Paul Scholes), and the technique of a young Maradona.

Best 30mil ever spent there, but the ungreatful fans don't know talent.
