Jose Enrique is set for a move to Liverpool this morning. The Cesc Fabregas saga is almost over and Samir Nasri is also on the verge of an Emirates exit. Frank Lampard recovers from a throat infection ahead of the season opener at Stoke while Fernando Torres’ concussion places question marks against his availability. Steve Bruce eyes up the Spurs squad and Alex McLeish hints at a role for Emile Heskey. Here’s the Scribbles for today, folks:

It seems Cesc Fabregas’s move to Barcelona is near completion. The La Liga champions’ two-year chase for the playmaker’s services could be tied up as early as this weekend, with Fabregas’ willingness to redirect a portion of his earnings Arsenal’s way reportedly proving key to the £40m transfer. Aaron Ramsey has looked more than capable as a replacement over the close season and – at 6.5 in FPL (Fantasy Premier League) – Fantasy managers will have their fingers crossed that Arsene Wenger allows the young Welshman the chance to nail down the role as his own.

With Samir Nasri’s move to Man City also on the cards, the Gunners boss will have plenty money to spend before the end of August and reports this morning suggest Wenger has made a move for Birmingham’s Scott Dann as he looks to address a weakness as centre-half.

Jose Enrique looks set for a move to Liverpool. With the left-back having just a year left on his contract, reports indicate the clubs have this morning agreed a fee for his services and a deal could be completed as early as today.

Frank Lampard looks likely to play this weekend, having recovered from a throat infection. The illness had caused him to withdraw from the England squad against Holland earlier in the week but a return to training yesterday suggests he’s well on the road to recovery ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Britannia.

Chelsea will be fretting over the availability of Fernando Torres after the striker was taken to hospital with concussion last night. The forward was withdrawn after just 15 minutes in Spain’s 2-1 defeat to Italy and the club should find out today whether he’ll be available for the weekend. If Torres is sidelined, it promotes Didier Drogba into our Fantasy thinking, with the big Ivorian leading the line for Andre Villas-Boas’ team at Stoke.

Despite an impressive pre-season, it appears Yossi Benayoun is still surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge. Reports today suggest the Israeli could be used as a makeweight in Chelsea’s bid for Luka Modric, though Newcastle are also believed to be waiting in the wings as Alan Pardew continues to restructure his first-team squad.

Steve Bruce seems to have been bitten by the transfer bug. Ten players have already made their way to Sunderland this close season but the Black Cats boss has confirmed he’s eyeing up a loan swoop for Tottenham’s Niko Krancjar.

Lucas has declared himself fit and ready to start for Liverpool this weekend. Despite his participation in last month’s Copa America, the Brazilian is desperate to play against Sunderland, saying:

I’m fit. I didn’t have a full holiday and was training with the national team, so it won’t be a problem for me to be available for Saturday. I am really excited to be back and really looking forward to the new season. We’re in a good mood at the moment and hopefully we’ll start well on Saturday.

Alex McLeish has confirmed Emile Heskey has a role to play for Aston Villa this season. The forward is in the final year of his contract but Big Eck reckons his experience could be valuable over the upcoming months for the Midlands club.

“Discarding his kind of knowledge and his skills would be crazy. I have to tap into a guy like that. I have to use him to the full. There is no guarantee that Emile will play every week – but he has certainly impressed me.”

For GWs 2-5 would you rather have:

    Nani + De Laet

    or

    N'Zogbia + Baines

I'm thinking the 2nd option because De Laet is realistically going to get 2 points max a game and Nani has poor fixtures, while Baines and N'Zogbia have 4 nice fixtures, and 3 at home each.

Thanks, even if it did take the 4th reply to get anything useful. 😉

That's what I was thinking, Nani would need to do really well in difficult fixtures to get a score of 10+ and add the 2 poitns De Laet is likely to get, Nani + De Laet would be lucky to get a double figure score in any of those gameweeks.

While N'Zogbia has good assist, scoring even cleansheet potential and the same goes for Baines who has great fixtures.

Is anyone else finding choosing defenders a complete nightmare? the uncertainty surrounding the top sides back lines is causing all kinds of issues..

City look like having the most value with Kompany and Lescott
United i don't know who will start, is Evra out for sure?
Chelsea we are none the wiser
Arsenal look no go at the back right now?
Liverpool i looked at Agger but this might not be so likely if Enrique signs up?

The Spurs game was called off due the dangerous state of the infrastructure around the ground, nothing to do with the liklihood of trouble or the ability of the Police to cope.

Unless there is further trouble between now and the games kicking off there will be no more postponments. 🙂

wouldnt play agger, liverpool's defensive record has been awful in preseason.
bosingwa is a bad choice. may only get 1 gw and to have him on your bench for the only game
he might even play is shocking. i'd change alcaraz to someone more defensively sound.
brown and givet are good options.

i'd also downgrade someone in midfield and upgrade that attack line.

maybe downgrade one of malouda/nani and upgrade rodallega to a big hitter.

also suarez is an injury doubt.

Just a heads up that Ryan Taylor will probably be playing LB for us unless we sign someone else.

£4.0m and he'll be on freekicks and maybe corners regardless of Barton being on the pitch. Maybe a decent punt for a short term option if anyone is looking to WC in the first few GW's.

I doubt it unfortunately, i'd love it if he was playing just off the striker but i think we'll go 4-4-2 until Ben Arfa is back, and then we'll revert to a 4-5-1 again.

Vuckic will most likely see alot of minutes from the subs bench at the end of games this season.

Yep, thought he got too much stick prior to getting a consistent run. I'd be suprised if that partnership was casually broken up (as some would allude to)... sure you can then have the 'europe rotation' consideration.

    So...

Given/Begovic (perfect rotation after week 1)
    Kompany/Cole/Senderos/(Gabbidon/Williams)
    N'Zogbia/Malouda/Nani/Moses/Duff
    Drogba/Zamora/(Holt)

Very reliant on Chelsea doing well, but GWs 2/3 look perfect for some high scores for them.

No Liverpool/Arsenal cover and no City attacking cover (once Aguero proves himself - I think I'll go for him, also looking at Suarez once Liverpool's fixtures come right [although do they need to?])

I feel like RvP should be forced in there somehow. But then I'd need to find an extra 0.5 and I like the optionality of having something in the bank.

    Any one with some ideas?

I'm not worried about the top teams fixtures, Nani/Lampard/Drogba/RvP/VdV/etc all score well against all teams - on the defensive side I would agree their fixtures become more important.

    Dear Souters!

This season i have been invited to play in a leage with some rather weathly gentlemen for a rather large sum of money, i gladly accepted because i came 200th in the world last year *boast*. However just yesterday i realised that they are playing a different fantasy game!

    http://www.fantasyleuge.com

Now i'm in a bit of a pickle. This game looks rather different. If there is anybody with any experince playing this league i would greatly apreciate some help.We are playing in the clasic format. Im unsure of some of the rules and maybe you could clarify these for me:

    - prices, do they rise and fall like in fpl?
-Gameweeks or "gameblocks" is every kick off time effectively a different gameweek?
-Autosubs is there such a thing? ie will my substitue keeper sub in if the keeper on my team doesn't play?

All your help will be greatly appreciated.

ps. If there is anyone that has a vast amount of experience i would be willing to compensate you for your time.

At the minute, i've got: Agger-Jagielka-Kompany-Bramble-Simpson.

Will downgrade Agger to Enrique GW3 and get Suarez for Dzeko. That's the plan anyway. Worried about not having a Chelsea defender though!

decent plan that. yeah the chelsea defender issue is a bitch but i'd rather be worried without than have one who isn't playing

probably. don't fancy paying 7.5 for terry or cole nor do i have the confidence in the others playing all of the first 3 weeks
