Jose Enrique is set for a move to Liverpool this morning. The Cesc Fabregas saga is almost over and Samir Nasri is also on the verge of an Emirates exit. Frank Lampard recovers from a throat infection ahead of the season opener at Stoke while Fernando Torres’ concussion places question marks against his availability. Steve Bruce eyes up the Spurs squad and Alex McLeish hints at a role for Emile Heskey. Here’s the Scribbles for today, folks:

It seems Cesc Fabregas’s move to Barcelona is near completion. The La Liga champions’ two-year chase for the playmaker’s services could be tied up as early as this weekend, with Fabregas’ willingness to redirect a portion of his earnings Arsenal’s way reportedly proving key to the £40m transfer. Aaron Ramsey has looked more than capable as a replacement over the close season and – at 6.5 in FPL (Fantasy Premier League) – Fantasy managers will have their fingers crossed that Arsene Wenger allows the young Welshman the chance to nail down the role as his own.

With Samir Nasri’s move to Man City also on the cards, the Gunners boss will have plenty money to spend before the end of August and reports this morning suggest Wenger has made a move for Birmingham’s Scott Dann as he looks to address a weakness as centre-half.

Jose Enrique looks set for a move to Liverpool. With the left-back having just a year left on his contract, reports indicate the clubs have this morning agreed a fee for his services and a deal could be completed as early as today.

Frank Lampard looks likely to play this weekend, having recovered from a throat infection. The illness had caused him to withdraw from the England squad against Holland earlier in the week but a return to training yesterday suggests he’s well on the road to recovery ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Britannia.

Chelsea will be fretting over the availability of Fernando Torres after the striker was taken to hospital with concussion last night. The forward was withdrawn after just 15 minutes in Spain’s 2-1 defeat to Italy and the club should find out today whether he’ll be available for the weekend. If Torres is sidelined, it promotes Didier Drogba into our Fantasy thinking, with the big Ivorian leading the line for Andre Villas-Boas’ team at Stoke.

Despite an impressive pre-season, it appears Yossi Benayoun is still surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge. Reports today suggest the Israeli could be used as a makeweight in Chelsea’s bid for Luka Modric, though Newcastle are also believed to be waiting in the wings as Alan Pardew continues to restructure his first-team squad.

Steve Bruce seems to have been bitten by the transfer bug. Ten players have already made their way to Sunderland this close season but the Black Cats boss has confirmed he’s eyeing up a loan swoop for Tottenham’s Niko Krancjar.

Lucas has declared himself fit and ready to start for Liverpool this weekend. Despite his participation in last month’s Copa America, the Brazilian is desperate to play against Sunderland, saying:

I’m fit. I didn’t have a full holiday and was training with the national team, so it won’t be a problem for me to be available for Saturday. I am really excited to be back and really looking forward to the new season. We’re in a good mood at the moment and hopefully we’ll start well on Saturday.

Alex McLeish has confirmed Emile Heskey has a role to play for Aston Villa this season. The forward is in the final year of his contract but Big Eck reckons his experience could be valuable over the upcoming months for the Midlands club.

“Discarding his kind of knowledge and his skills would be crazy. I have to tap into a guy like that. I have to use him to the full. There is no guarantee that Emile will play every week – but he has certainly impressed me.”

was all set before spurs off as had baines in my team. now contemplating a very cheap defence (only one def worth 5m) and going for the big guns up top

Same here. One def of 5mill(Hughes at the moment) Drog/Roonpig/Suarez up top

Might go Carrol to be safe and then downgrade somewhere by 0.5.

When I got to work this morning I cut Kompany from my squad and reshuffled the defence. Not sure I have the balls to go with what I have at the back though.

i dont need the extra 0.5m as my first 3 transfers planned are

              gwk3 rooney to odemwingie

gwk4 lamps/carroll to rvp and an arsenal mid

Some BB fans were saying stay away with Nelsen/Samba injured.

I'm not to worried. They can be handy, especially at home. I'm actually thinking of doing Alcaraz-->Laet since Nor/BB rotate H/A for the first 12.

Clearly not. The country which owns the greatest debt would be hit worst, whereas the ones which owed the most would gain.

Sure they might find it a bit expensive (or impossible) to get any additional loans in the next few years, but their economy would quickly grown and turn into a viable investment opportunity.

To be honest, the Spurs-Everton news just makes me consider their players all the more, considering that the first week is by far the easiest week to bench slightly more expensive players.

If we get any indication that the double gameweeks will be soon, then it must be a temptation to get them, bench them for week 1, and enjoy the double when it comes.

I like your thinking Jonah. If you're considering having them until the double then they should regain their price, if not more, by the time you sell. I am looking at having Jagielka sitting on my bench this week. Don't think it is worth having any more Everton or Tottenham players as you increase your chance of not getting a full 11 out this week, and can gradually bring them in by the double.

Thanks lads, i guess that mean you like it!

RVP and Suarrex could be in my team after GW 3/4 and i have 3M in the bank so a little bit to work with yet.

Indeed, here's the similarity to my team:

        Given, Schwartzer
        Kompany, Baines, Hangeland, Orr, Taylor
        Silva, N’Zogbia, Sinclair, Taarabt, Moses
        Carroll, Drogba, Holt

        In fact, I'd appreciate comments

I like the midfield and strikers bar Carroll 😉
Im not convinced on him but he could do well. Good defense too, can you afford to bring in RVP later on?

Yes, Carroll will be replaced by Bent after GW1, then a few weeks later would like Suarez in for Drogba, but also plan on using my wildcard around that time. RVP would always make my team apart from his inability to not get injured, and atm he's a bit pricey.
            Cheers

Sir P and Scouts, there's an error in the Player Stats for Enrique's Assists last season with only 1. FPL has it as 3.

Or is this simply an anomaly between Opta and the FPL game?

Seen a good bet there, its in the top goalscorer handicap betting.

    Holt(+13)
    Doyle(+12)
    Davies(+12)
    Rodallega(+11)
    Zamora(+10)

All 15/1. Like the look of Holt and Doyle especially!

Doyle has injured his knee again so may make a slow start to the season. Still gutted he's not in my team... I prefer him to Zamora and Bent (FPL wise).

Shit, is he out for long? Not sure if he is better than Bent but i suppose you would have a lot of spare $$$$$$$$!

Holt is a decent pick? on pens and Norwich's main man, sholud get 10 goals anyway which could be good enough.

2 weeks top I hope but you never know. Really did allow me to go big elsewhere in my squad.

Have been toying with Holt, but I think Norwich will struggle to see much of the ball. The premier league is such a step up from the Championship.

If I can get a mmidfield I'm happy with then I may go with Drogba, Rooney, Carroll, but Rodallega is my third striker based on fixtures.

if you planning just for the first few weeks go for rodellega but longer term bobby z would be a better option. Spend your other 1.5m wisely!!

1.5m more buys you Carroll (if you haven't already got him)... Can you raise that by downgrading a mid?

Can see Carroll scoring lots and getting assists for knock downs. Downing looks good too but packed midfield might mean he gets subbed lots

Is it worth spending an extra 1m on Riise over Hughes.

I think I'm going to. I like the extra .5m on Lescott over Kompany too as the greater goal threat should be worth it.

Riise has the ability to play left midfield at some point during the season and should assist more than Aaron Hughes.
