The Premier League earlier today confirmed the cancellation of Tottenham’s scheduled home game with Everton this Saturday. The club’s ticket office was damaged during days of civil unrest earlier in the week and with control of Tottenham High Road not due to be handed back to the local council from police until tomorrow, there is insufficient time to issue a safety certificate for the match.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said earlier today:

The very latest situation is that Tottenham and Everton has gone. The police have done a fantastic job, but it’s been a crime scene all week and the council have not had enough time to do what they need. The other nine fixtures are looking positive, subject to any more trouble. At 6pm tonight we will have a very clear picture.

Tottenham elaborated further on the club website afterwards:

Following ongoing discussions with the necessary authorities regarding this weekend’s Premier League home match against Everton, it has now been confirmed that this fixture will be postponed due to safety concerns relating to infrastructure of the High Road and access to the stadium caused by last Saturday’s riots.

The scenario leaves Fantasy Managers with some re-thinking to do ahead of Saturday‘s deadline, then. At the moment, Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka have a combined ownership of 470K Fantasy Premier League (FPL) for the visitors while a look at the home side shows Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart have been selected by 350K, 198K and 141K Fantasy managers respectively.

Spurs’ opening game of the season is now a visit to Old Trafford and with a difficult home game with Man City in Gameweek 3, short-term investment in their players could drop as a consequence. Everton, on the other hand, open their campaign at Goodison Park against QPR before taking a trip to Blackburn.

The 6pm Premier League update will provide more clues. At present, the nine games look likely to go ahead, meaning there’s a Double Gameweek on the horizon for at least two teams before the season has even kicked-off.

Does anyone fancy Andy Johnson, he always scores against the villa and has been in good form Pre-Season. Thoughts?

    Schwarzer
    Enrique / Kompany / Rafael
    Y.Toure / Nzog / Malouda / Nani
    Bent / A.J / Carroll

    Moreira
    Warnock
    Ferguson
    Gabbidon

    Any advice on team?

Is 7.5m to much to be tieing up in a chelsea defender? What group of players would you prefer A or B?

    A.
    A. Cole, Taylor (Swansea), Nani, N'Zog, Holt & A. Johnson

    B.
Jose Enrique, Bramble, Sessegnon Surman, Rooney, Bent, Suarez

cheers Jonno. the two cheapies don't rotate at all but they stand out as the only cheap midfielders likely to get games and the odd assist or even a goal. for the first few weeks either or both have an "easier game" so picking one or the other is straightforward. i just didn't want to leave out any of the big midfielders. starting this season on the principle of not picking any 12.0 players or ultra-expensive defenders.

Can't argue with most of it, my only comment would be - do you have money in the bank or a transfer plan for Bosingwa? Once Ivanovic is healthy he won't be nailed on..

Bosingwa is my only concern. getting cashley/terry/cole upsets the cash balance of the team but i accept it is a risk. my plan is that if it becomes apparent that one of the big midfielders isn't cutting it, downgrade and fund the change to a better chelsea defender

How about this for a plan - jagielka and baines on the bench

As long as i make sure i have no doubts in my starting 11 + 1 sub, this leaves me with 2 everton players going into a run of good fixtures which should include a DGW, leaving me free to get a spurs player in whenever that DGW takes place.

    Thoughts?

Is it madness to start the season with Cech or Hart and a cheapie? Both guaranteed starters and will probably get 150-180 points but everyone seems to prefer Given/4.5 keeper combo and spend the money elsewhere. My thinking is the Given combo would get you 120-135. Is the additional 1.5 not worth the points differential?

My initial plan was Cech and a cheapie, but I've downgraded to Given now. The extra money is very nice to have. But an expensive keeper not a bad idea at all, probably better than being a sheep (like I've become).

I don't think that's a convincing argument. Cech still scored more points than Cole last year (and the previous two years).

The issue is whether your cheaper Cole/Cech option will score enough points to be a better value. It's the essence of being an FPL manager.

And by the way, I might have talked myself into getting Cech into my team and losing Cole.

Well, it's ok but here's the catch - a man city defender gets the same clean sheets as hart

Hart doesn't get as many saves points as a cheaper gk (because city concede fewer shots)

So it's arguably better to have the cheaper keeper and the more expensive defender.

In my opinion stick with the cheapies at the back. Take a look at Ben Foster last year. The trick is finding two cheapies that rotate well. They lack the clean sheets, but make up for it in save points and the occasional bonus points.

    A) Given (al habsi)
    Woodgate, Senderos, Brown (Enrique, Gabbidon)
Nani, Downing, N'Zog, Moses (Hoolahan - Change to Ben Arfa when fit)
    Drogba VC, Gervinho, Rooney C

or change to the front 8 of:

Downing to Silva, Drogba to Holt and Hoolahan to Taarabt and £3mil spare for improvements

Leysh and Moses that was for.

Not to say that others aren't valued but it seems really hard to get a response atm and when i saw those 2 post together I said I'd take the chance.

No offence to anyone else intended.

3 main reason. He is 5.0 and a guaranteed starter. Also he is lined up nicely to replace NZog in Wigans attack. And if none of that convinces you then look at Wigans preseason results and you'll see his form.

17 goals in 70 games for Partizan, could be a decent punt.

Maybe needs to settle in a bit first, only just arrived. Yes AB, he might be playing a bit deeper but he was fairly deep in the clip!

Drogba . latest rumour is that torres is out for stoke . had some kind of an injury during the international friendly against Italy . So drogba will lead the attack . fancy him to score .

Am I right in thinking that Newcastle will be without their usual LB, playing Arsenal with Gervinho in the Walcott position high up the field on the right?

If so, I might just have a punt on Gerv. I remember starting with Ravanelli when he joined Boro years ago (I was about 15 and it wasn't FPL). It would be called a foolish punt on here - his debut, first game of the season against liverpool - but he got a hat-trick. That was about the last time one of my punts paid off mind.

Haven't got for Rafael. At risk of rotation with Smalling/Jones/Fabio, and Utd will surely concede more this season with De Gea in goal.

I've gone for Andy Johnson. Couldn't afford Zamora, and he's played pretty well in pre-season.
