We’re almost there. After three months, countless RMT’s (That’s Rate-My-Team for our new readers), a whole host of injury scares and the regular gamut of transfer talk, the season is now just hours away.

This means just one thing- it’s time for a host of the Fantasy Football Scout team to start off one last debate by sticking our necks on the line with predictions for the year to come. As evidenced by last year, our choices can range from the sublime to the ridiculous – let’s see how the cards fall for 2011/12…

I, Andy, kick things off by singling out teams and players I am not perhaps known for endorsing. Towing the party line, then, I’ve done everything I can to make my predictions as impartial as possible. Not believe me? Look- no Fernando Torres…

    RED AND YELLOW FLAGS

Did I hear on the podcast that FFS are supplying the info and percentages on injuries to FPL? So the red and yellow flags should be more accurate than in previous seasons?

Yes, I painfully do. And Ebanks-Blake, Petrov, Jiminez and on and on and on, but he's a £5M midfielder who is basically guaranteed starts with incredible opening fixtures and has been in some serious form pre-season. Well worth the gamble, imo.

I would say 90% have Moses (on here) vs max 20% have dyer.

I would much rather dyer, regardless of any price difference.

Moses will play less than 50% of this seasons minutes for sure... 1st rule of ff, pick players who actually play!

I'd take dyer. Personally I've opted for one of the slightly more expensive mids and gone for a dirt cheap forward.

I'd rather have a guaranteed starter like holt, Graham who will play 90mins and likely be involved in most their teams goals.

There's little worse than not being able to rely on your subs for 2points

    Long-term:

    A.)

    Given (Ruddy)

Kompany - Alex - Taylor (Gabbidon, Brown)

    Malouda - Nani - Silva - Moses - Taarabt

    Van Persie - Zamora (Holt)

    or B.)

    Given (Ruddy)

Baines (Lescott week one) - Warnock (then Enrique) - Taylor (Gabbidon, Brown)

    Lampard - Nani - Moses - Brunt - O'Hara

    Van Persie - Dzeko (Holt)

    ---

    ?

B covers bases such as Lampard and Baines that I can always downgrade, whereas A would pretty much be set in stone with those men harder to bring in.

I like the Warnock -> Enrique option but Villa have good fixtures for a while, i might hold off on Enrique for a while.

There is in option A. In option B I have Lescott in week one, after that I'd have Baines and long term Liverpool instead.

Why is everyone convinced Yaya Toure is going to play a deeper role this season? He did very well last year. Do you think De Jong needs help or something?

My thoughts exactly, so why the deeper role for Toure? He's hardly gonna be pinging passes about from deep.

He would simply replace Barry. And allow someone like Nasri in his place.

Honestly, I think people are underrating defenders this term. They are all crazed about Bonus points(looking at averages, but the truth is, that When Ashley cole gets an assist or goal and Chelsea gains clean sheets, thats when he Bonuses up. Thats when he did in the past and will so again in the future. Averages dont mean much, what matters more is volatility. If your player has a good PPI, but volatile around that average, it will probably work out better for you, because he will be certain for Bonus pts. If he has a good PPI, but no volatility, then in any individual game, he will probably be beat. As for your question, Defenders at a premium will probably still score better than most of their midfield counterparts throughout the year. Attacking players are expensive this year, and although defenders are as well, it seems Mids and Forwards are at a much higher premium.

Where can you find PPI averages? I've only seen totals from the whole season.

Hmmm, where he has said it will be a 4-3-3, I wonder does this mean:

      Cech
      Bosingwa/Ivanovic or Alex/Terry/Cole
      Ramires/Lampard/Malouda
      Torres/Drogba/Anelka

My last decision, Taarabt or Sess?
I cant make my mind up with Taarabt on pens with good fixtures but Sess playing behind the striker.

Pretty amateurish question here but need clarification. Do expensive players such as Van Persie become more expensive through performance throughout the season at the same rate as a cheap player such as moses? Thanks.

prices go up depending on the number of times that player is transferred in.

same applies if they are transferred out which makes the price go down.

It goes at the same rate.

It's complicated. Good performances do push up prices, but high prices prohibit uptake.

add to that, higher priced players are usually more consistent in scoring points.
