Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    A few questions:

    1. Is Baines worth the money?
    2. Bosingwa or Alex?
    3. Kompany or Richards?

    Folks,

Trying to work out who is playing out of position...

Formica - will he play up front consistently?
Sessegnon - anyone see the game.... was he any good?
Tchoyi (risk with Long and Odemwingie in the side tho')

    anyone aware of anyone else?

Can't say I'm that clued up on Formica, sorry. Sessegnon showed flashes, but never really threatened. He's a good player though, no doubt. Tchoyi is a risk to a certain extent. When Odem's back it'll surely be Long and Odem up front. However, Tchoyi is versatile and can play in midfield. Also, WBA have been making noises about selling Odem if the right offer comes along. That offer being £8m, double what Wigan have initially offered.

I was pretty happy with my team till, then we got this free WC and my mind almost explodes with transfers i want to make.

Anyway this is what I've come up with.

    Given/Ruddy
    Bosingwa/Kompany/Senderos/Simpson/De Laet
    Young/Cahill/Yaya/Sinclair/Moses
    Rooney/Torres/DJ

    Suggestions welcome 🙂

After The new wildcard and most of FPL users and this website comments agreed to that Aguero is a must have player but they also disagree on

1- 3 good strikers with average mid or balance the team

    2- Young or Nani

    3- Suarez or Carrol

    4- Torres, Rooney or RVP

    5- Richards or Kompany

6- "I will add one hard one imo as well... if u choose to have 3 good strikers.. do u go with 1 expensive defender and the rest 4 and 4.5 defenders to have at least one expensive player in midfield or u have average priced midfielders to have good defenders? 😉 "

Finally I don't think that no one can be sure when he answer one of these question.. because i don't think one game can give full image of any player of team performance during the season.. so, share you opinion please if you have one about any of these questions.. thanks

      1. Balanced team for me. I think people are going over the top with three big strikers just becasue of the BP system.

      2. Hate to say it but Young.

      3. Suarez

      4. Rooney at the moment. RVP GW4

      5. Richards. But i'd be wary of Zabaleta.

      6. I wouldn't go with 3 expensive strikers. Balanced team all the way.

The question of balance is an interesting one. Strikers seem huge this year and so many look like they could be in form, but it's only one week in. I'd argue right now the only balance that really matters is between defence and everything else. Either way most people are going to have 4 big hitters, and if they have 3 up front they can easily change that to 2 in midfield and 2 up front in two transfers.

Furthermore, it seems like cheap midfielders may have much more luck this year than strikers in a similar price range.

No need to follow whatever everyone else picks, just choose whatever 15 you think is best.

Personally, I think I'll be avoiding Aguero until GW4. Torres until then (trade to Aguero GW4), fixtures are too good to ignore.

Bonus point are heavily in favour of Goalscorers so 3 big strikers for me. Torres, Aguero and Bent this week with the option to change them around, Got Silva and Young in midfield as well so happy and defender from City, pool and chelsea.

      Would go Young over nani
      Suarez over Carroll
Torres at the moment then Rooney

If, like me you are realistic about your chances of winning the FPL (ie you won't) then why not experiment for the next 2-3 weeks. If the worst comes to the worst you can always WC in one of the early international breaks as many do anyway. One things for sure - after the generally poor performances in the first gameweek and the new BP system this is actually going to be one of the most open and unpredictable FPL seasons for a while.

I think the Watson and Moses double up is perhaps not a good idea. If you get a 4.5 mid you can free up .5 or 1.0 on taking out one of them. Watson did look dangerous and heard Moses was good too...so perhaps keep Watson as he has got the penalty slot secured. Also...A Johnson from FUL seems to have done well too so you could swap HOLT out or him.

Was anyone else extremely impressed with Lamps v Stoke? On another day he'd have bagged two or three...

I was kind of nervous going into GW1 with him with doubts over how he would play in VB's system... but he's basically playing in behind the lone striker - definitely will get a boatload of goals this year if he stays fit. Watch the biggest bandwagon in the world take shape if he pops up with a brace v WBrom!

I had him also. He looked promising but 12mil is steep and he certainly wasnt behind the lone striker.
Left sided attacking of mid 3.

I was saying the other day a wc would be the fairest thing for fpl to do for those that got caught out. Now they've done it It's pissed me off a bit. Felt I chose my opening team very well and had no worries going forward. All for nothing now. Ah well I do enjoy wildcards 🙂

    GIven (Vorm)

Kompany - Baines - Brown (Enrique - Simpson)

Young - Moses - Jarvis - Holohan (Britton)

    Rooney - Aguero - Suarez

I guess is not a bad team... and not badly balanced...

i don't like it too... but I'm afraid that this bps system this year, will make the big strikers a bps magnet... and if I spot some midfielder like Lamps, Nani, Cahill etc, starting to score big, I can easily downgrade big striker>cheap striker cheap mid>big mid....

I actually quite like the new bonus system. Once we've gotten used to it I imagine it'll be much better than before. I'd rather have something concrete, if at times disputable, than something based purely on one man's view.

I reckon it was stats based before anyway. Even based on stats it throws up strange allocations that not every one would agree with.

This may have already been answered but why does the FPL site say that points will be deducted at the end of the gameweek for transfers when we all have free unlimited transfers? Dont want to end up with -12 that I didnt have to make?

They appear to be hiding the data view now.

Which suggests that it would still display the current team if you could see it. I'm not a web site coder but there could be a hacky way to still view the data view and see their team - maybe even a greasemonkey script.

Not that I would suggest anyone try that.
