Blackburn fail in Raul swoop. Sneijder to United seems less likely. Arteta’s back on the radar for the QPR game after playing in Everton friendly. Chelsea are not giving up on Modric and Samir Nasri denies Facebook comments and insists the account is a fake. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Man United’s attempts to sign Wesley Sneijder look to be scuppered. Inter Milan president Masimo Moratti has indicated the Dutchman is likely to remain at the San Siro now, with Samuel Eto’o on the verge of leaving the Italian giants. Moratti told La Gazzetta del Sport:

Sneijder away? For Wes there has never been any sort of negotiation. If Eto’o leaves, he remains. Sneijder was untouchable even before this hypothesis, now it is even more so. Sneijder will remain.

If this is the case, United youngster Tom Cleverley could be set to play a more prominent part in the club’s season than previously anticipated. Cleverley has already impressed this season, with his second half performance in the Community Shield resulting in a start at the expense of Ryan Giggs in last week’s opener at West Brom.

Samir Nasri is the latest player to be caught in a social network controversy. Nasri has moved to distance himself from a Facebook account that claimed he would be leaving Arsenal with “bitterness and anger”. The Frenchman used his official Twitter page to deny the claims this morning , assuring Gunners fans the account is a fake. The player didn’t take too kindly to chants from the club’s fans at the Newcastle game on Saturday and is surely now edging that little bit closer to the rumoured move to Man City.

Martin Jol is in the market for another striker. Fulham’s no score draw in Gameweek 1 has Jol eyeing up former club Ajax for more firepower, with a move for out-of-favour Mounir El Hamdaoui on the cards. Jol had previously signed the player during his stint at the Dutch giants and admitted he’s weighing up a move for the twenty-seven year-old:

It’s not unthinkable for me to sign Mounir. He is incredibly honest and amazingly direct. He could be a pleasant surprise.

The agent of Niko Krancjar has suggested his client is on the verge of a move to Sunderland. In spite of acquiring ten players this summer, Steve Bruce still feels changes need be made to the Black Cats squad and Krancjar would definitely add a touch of class to his current crop of players.

Still on the subject of Spurs and midfielders, free agent Thomas Hitzlsperger has been training with Harry Redknapp’s side and a possible move to White Hart Lane may well be on the cards for the German international.

Edin Dzeko reckons he’s in for a big season. The Bosnian played well as a lone front man then as part of a pairing at the Etihad Stadium on Monday night, though his performance was somewhat put in the shade by a certain Sergio Aguero. Dzeko praised Aguero before going on to say:

The beginnings have always been slow for me, and that was the case at City, but this year I feel fit and I feel very good. I feel much better than last season. For every player it is important to be fit and have a good pre-season behind him. This summer I have done everything with the team and that makes you feel better.I want to improve in every game, but I have started the season well.

Everton’s delayed start to the season has given Mikel Arteta the chance to recover from a foot injury. The playmaker returned to action in a friendly against Irish side Bohemians earlier in the week and with David Moyes’ side facing QPR this weekend, should find himself the subject of Fantasy investment. Arteta declared after the game:

I’ve been working really hard in the last 10 days and we’ll see how I do in the game against QPR. I will tell you how far I am off full fitness after the game on Saturday.

Blackburn have failed in an audacious swoop for legendary striker Raul. The Ewood Park outfit slapped in a bid for the Schalke star’s services, but Raul -a close friend of Rovers right-back Michel Salgado- is said to have rejected the offer out of hand and asked his club to turn down any offers from Steve Kean’s side.

Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou added to Arsene Wenger’s woes last night. The pair limped out of the Gunners nervy 1-0 win over Udinese and the club announced on their official website after the match that they are likely to miss this weekend’s Emirates clash with Liverpool.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Luka Modric shows no sign of abating. With last season’s runners-up unwilling to spend any more than £30m, they are considering offering both Yossi Benayoun and Salomon Kalou as part of the deal that would bring the little Croatian to Stamford Bridge. With a 25 man squad to be submitted to the Premier League next month, this would also free up a space in Andre Villas-Boas’ thinking and may prove to be the better option.

What's everyone's thoughts on A Johnson for Fulham? Is he likely to have a regular spot in the starting 11? Onkly wondering as he is cheap alternative than putting on of the Promoted strikers in my team!

I was debating putting him or Holt in. I've stuck with Holt because he has Stoke and WBA at home in next 3, while Johnson has 2 aways followed by Bburn at home, but then City at home.
Saying that, Johnson, if fit and if Fulham dont buy another striker, is a better pick in the long run IMHO

    A. Torres Suarez Aguero

At first A seems obvious, but I have doubts about Aguero starting for the next few weeks, and Suarez has 2 nice fixtures in the next 7. Also without Rooney I would have no United cover.

Rank these defenders with #1 being the player that you think will get the most starts, and #6 being the one that gets the least starts. Of these six, which ones do you feel will be regular starters?

Kompany, Rafael (once he returns from injury), Smalling, Gibbs, Enrique and Bosingwa.

      1) Kompany
      2) Enrique
      3) Smalling
      4) Gibbs
      5) Bosingwa
      6) Rafael

To be fair 3-6 could be in any order but Kompany will play pretty much every game and Enrique should play the majority having been rushed straight into the team on Saturday.

Gibbs is 1st choice left-back (as cringeworthy as it sounds) but he seems so injury prone which will give you many a headache over the season. Watching him gives me a migraine the amount of times he is out of position. Hey but he's English!

Hmm my wish list is too large and costly compared to the budget I have. Who do people feel is most essential in the next few weeks out of the big guns?

No attacking coverage from Everton or Villa feels daft considering their opponents but Baines' price is so high for a defender and I'm not convinced McLeish knows how to get a team firing.

Man U - Okay tought few games but Rooney usually steps it up plus they're at home and he's on penos. Young could be a decent option but takes up the big price midfielder over Silva.

Liverpool - Hardish game followed by an easier one - is Suarez fixture proof? Will he remain on penalties?

Man City - Aguero looked amazing but that was against a knackered Swansea side and he still might to be at full fitness - Silva only returned one goal and one BP in a 4-0 win - they aren't going to win 4-0 every week.

Chelsea - Malouda was poor and that front 3 is up for anybodies guessing. Drogba will probably start but wouldn't risk it. Torres seemed to have recaptured form but still didn't score. Cashley got the BPs and CS's look like they will follow but the budget option of Bosingwa seems appealing now.

In conclusion I I'd give Young and Malouda a miss, go for Silva in the middle. Have Torres Rooney and Suarez up front and Baines and Cashley at the back. Only I can't afford that so back to square one.

I'm not sure about this whole "not fit" thing, he wasn't looking too lethargic against Swansea! (and thats not because Swansea are rubbish). The games he got in the Copa were just enough to keep his fitness up but not be burnt out if you ask me. Its just the clubs line to take a little pressure off his big money signing.

With the big hitters upfront tactic, you'd be weakening your midfield. That's perfectly fine anyway. As in defence, some people have 2/3 big top 5 defenders, and the other 2/3 cheapies rotating.

When picking your cheap midfielders, are you concentrating as much on them rotating perfectly aswell, as you would defenders

        Nothing wrong with likes of
        N zog, Moses,Sinclair,Brunt, etc.

If i go this way i can see myself play 4 at the back most weeks and rotate the mids

+1. Midfielders will come could. I want at least two big midfielders. Just so it makes it easy to transfer in VDV and Walcott when fixtures ease up.

not too well, 44. i planned for the first 11gwks so no city attackers and was well set moving forward so the extra wc was annoying

          how about u?

            60 mate.

Solid i guess. How you looking at this new transfers?

Planning to make short term team (2-3) and wildcard again week 4 when teams have nice fixtures or longterm plan again?

still planning for wc after gwk11. the blackburn/stoke rotation from that point is too tempting so guna treble up on those at the back from that point

team at the moment involves 2 chelsea, 3 villa, 3 everton and no utd city spurs arsenal

have a transfer plan in place tho so will bring in rvp suarez etc over the next few weeks

Blackburn are very poor at the back now though, gotta roll with the times

If wolves cans score twice there and miss pen, plus Samba may be off it doesnt bode will.

He is also trying to make them more attacking and entertaining.

Have you gone for Lampard no?

I can do this team and wc week 4
                Given
                Warnock,Baines,Bos
                Lampard,Cahill,Sessegon,Sinclair
                Torres,Bent,Holt

                worth it?

id save my wc as long as u can

perfect opportunity at the mo as

chelsea nice fixtures end gwk3 - switch to arsenal

everton nice fixtures end gwk5 - switch to liverpool

so u can stock up on those and get rid without hits, thats my plan anyway

if you do stick with your plan thats a good team tho, ive currently got:

                  vorm, ruddy
baines, warnock, brown, simpson, de laet
                  lamps, nzog, cahill, moses, dyer
                  bent, torres, saha

bent torres n saha all have nice fixtures gwk3, while id love suarez for that week i dont fancy much at arsenal and would involve a hit as i want to take out lamps/torres gwk4 for rvp and either walcott or vdv

Anyone forgetting VDV??? I know they have some hard fixtures, but he always shines and is always at the heart of any attack. Is he worth the 10 mil price tag this week? or should i wait? Need a 9 mil mid if not him 🙁

I'm putting him in for Silva, United are going to be dodgy at the back this weekend I feel. Good players to come in but you can't just throw four players in and expect them to have a good understanding immediately.

    Hey guys,

I have A.Cole already in defence so which option do you think is best?

    A) Bosingwa & 6.5m mid

    Bosingwa (a potential bargain but also a risk), a 6.5m midfielder (Ramsey/Sessegnon/Sinclair/Hoolahan)

    OR

    B) Baines & Dyer

Depends on how strong the rest of your midfield is. Would Dyer be able to sit on your bench most weeks?

I would have to swap Dyer and Moses around for the 4th Midfield spot or play Simpson or Brown as a 4th defender.

    A) A. Cole and Bent

    or

    B) M. Richards and Rooney

Bearing in mind I already have Kompany.
