Roberto Mancini’s riches are already begin to trouble us Fantasy Managers. Today’s victory at the Reebok may have added further evidence to suggest that they are a team filled with Fantasy talent, but it’s also clear that our quest for secure sources of Fantasy points looks a tough one.

David Silva’s opening goal, although exposing Jussi Jaaskelainen, reinforced the argument that the Spaniard could emerge as the standout midfield option this term. Once again he was City’s creative spark, feeding off the industry of Gareth Barry, James Milner and Yaya Toure in the engine room. Silva looks nailed-on for starts – the likely protagonist in City’s title tilt, but he also looks the exception in Mancini’s impressive armoury.

Toure will get starts but the role handed to him is a concern. So impressive when pushed forward to exert pressure on the Swansea defence on Monday, today, with Nigel De Jong nursing a foot injury, Mancini shackled Toure in a holding midfield role. He obliged with a disciplined showing that proved fruitless for us Fantasy managers. The ease at which Toure adapts to this role is a worry – particularly when City come up against more testing opposition when Mancini will be tempted to temper the Ivorian’s attacking instincts, hindering his potential.

Similar the sight of Carlos Tevez on the City bench, apparently content to extend his residence in Mancini’s squad, will be a concern for those who were seduced by the brilliance of Segio Aguero in Monday night’s game. City’s new Argentinian had ample opportunities to add to his tally but ultimately drew a frustrating blank. Inevitably, Tevez replaced him with over 20 minutes remaining – you could taste the disappointment amongst the Fantasy fraternity. In a brief appearance, Tevez also showed an appetite to be part of things – that has to be a worry.

With such an option on the sidelines, we can only anticipate that Aguero will always be vulnerable – perhaps not for starts, but certainly to having his pitch time cut by the introduction of his compatriot. Can Fantasy managers be content with that prospect week in week out?

Edin Dzeko’s start to the season doesn’t help matters– while plenty will be contemplating Fantasy investment in a striker who has notched 2 goals and put in a pair of impressive displays, there will always be concern that Mancini will shift to a 4-5-1 with Adam Johnson or even Mario Balotelli given run-outs on the flank.

For now Dzeko is picking himself by Mancini’s approach to the teamsheet is fickle and it can afford to be. City appear to have an appetite for goals and an array of providers queuing up to impress. Great for the Italian boss and City’s ambitions – potentially frustrating for Fantasy managers looking to capitalise. At least there is a Silva lining.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    One question,
will silva- well like many the yaya hype took me over- do for man city cover. Just one thought with four strikers all expecting game time and mancini's annoying rotations surely dzeko won't play all the time with the threat of The Ugly One and Aguero with cut game time I might not opt for city attack and go with silva and Richards.

    Any thoughts guys?

For me it is obvious and I was shouting whole last year. Mancini needs to admit that his best attacking midfielder for now is Milner. And he was so stubborn playing that unholy trinity in defense and forced Yaya to play attacking mid. He needed that injury to De Jong to see what is best for the team. Last year he was forcing him to play wide where he didn't put his best game. For Villa he was monster of a player in that attacking central role.

For me he won't understand this and there is every chance for MIlner to be benched. THat puts only Silva as most probable starter, with A.J playing wing as a substitute. Gjeko is sure for now but Tevez situation is worrying. I was talking about this when everybody jumped on the Aguero wagon.

I think most important is this formation to be kept, either wise we'll see more 1:0 wins at home and all those attacking talents in ity lineup will be useless and not that valuable fantasy wise.

      That's my thoughts.
      Cheers,

Maybe but maybe not. This game he proved u wrong and I said earlier " Mancini needs to admit that his best attacking midfielder for now is Milner ". So from the players available he is best for that position. WHat do u think Yaya could do better?

I think Yaya plays very well in that position. His strength and dribbling speed alone does it. Plus he is a better short passer of the ball too.
Milner has a decent shot and is a good crosser of the ball, and he is also very determined, but an average and overpriced player overall imo.

At the moment Ramires and Mikel sit back a bit and Lamps has more of a licence to go forward. Now he won't dare drop Lampard so he will play Lamps a little deeper, drop Ramires or Mikel and Mata will have creative responsibilities.

    Requiring a piece of advice....

I already have suarez and fletcher. i have 11mill to spend...which striker should i bring in? Long is tempting, ageuro still v dangerous and bent has outstanding fixtures ahead.

I will need to make the decision before tomorrow night when the prices do the hokey kokey

          VDV
          Simpson/de laet
          Barkley
          R Taylor

If you can squeeze those in. If you have an extra 0.5mill look at ward from wolves

What is the rest of your team? Does this mean you're wildcarding?

I would normally say VDV if you have enough £, but his fixtures are not looking good. I'd go Silva and maybe VDV later.

    Mata set to join Chelsea.

Saw a couple of posts about this so decided to put a link in for others.

Keep him, I am what have you got to lose.
If he bombs then you'll still have enough for Bent or Saurez even with price changes

Reading the match report and from what I saw he ran the midfield. He had a shot on goal so hopefully baps 😀
