Roberto Mancini’s riches are already begin to trouble us Fantasy Managers. Today’s victory at the Reebok may have added further evidence to suggest that they are a team filled with Fantasy talent, but it’s also clear that our quest for secure sources of Fantasy points looks a tough one.

David Silva’s opening goal, although exposing Jussi Jaaskelainen, reinforced the argument that the Spaniard could emerge as the standout midfield option this term. Once again he was City’s creative spark, feeding off the industry of Gareth Barry, James Milner and Yaya Toure in the engine room. Silva looks nailed-on for starts – the likely protagonist in City’s title tilt, but he also looks the exception in Mancini’s impressive armoury.

Toure will get starts but the role handed to him is a concern. So impressive when pushed forward to exert pressure on the Swansea defence on Monday, today, with Nigel De Jong nursing a foot injury, Mancini shackled Toure in a holding midfield role. He obliged with a disciplined showing that proved fruitless for us Fantasy managers. The ease at which Toure adapts to this role is a worry – particularly when City come up against more testing opposition when Mancini will be tempted to temper the Ivorian’s attacking instincts, hindering his potential.

Similar the sight of Carlos Tevez on the City bench, apparently content to extend his residence in Mancini’s squad, will be a concern for those who were seduced by the brilliance of Segio Aguero in Monday night’s game. City’s new Argentinian had ample opportunities to add to his tally but ultimately drew a frustrating blank. Inevitably, Tevez replaced him with over 20 minutes remaining – you could taste the disappointment amongst the Fantasy fraternity. In a brief appearance, Tevez also showed an appetite to be part of things – that has to be a worry.

With such an option on the sidelines, we can only anticipate that Aguero will always be vulnerable – perhaps not for starts, but certainly to having his pitch time cut by the introduction of his compatriot. Can Fantasy managers be content with that prospect week in week out?

Edin Dzeko’s start to the season doesn’t help matters– while plenty will be contemplating Fantasy investment in a striker who has notched 2 goals and put in a pair of impressive displays, there will always be concern that Mancini will shift to a 4-5-1 with Adam Johnson or even Mario Balotelli given run-outs on the flank.

For now Dzeko is picking himself by Mancini’s approach to the teamsheet is fickle and it can afford to be. City appear to have an appetite for goals and an array of providers queuing up to impress. Great for the Italian boss and City’s ambitions – potentially frustrating for Fantasy managers looking to capitalise. At least there is a Silva lining.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Based purely on the fixtures, Taraabt should be better than Sinclair for the short term. Not worth spending the transfer on, though. I'd always recommend having two transfers to use after the international break. Then I'd probably start with Torres and N'Zogbia. Bent will be the main point-scorer for Villa, no need to have both. That gives you 18.5 for a mid and forward, which should give plenty of options.

Play Vorm next week, bench Given.
      Bench Brown of your defenders.
Get rid of all midfielders except Silva, possibly take another punt on Sessegnon or Sinclair but Moses and N'Zogbia have to go.
Play Saha seeing as you have him, though I personally wouldn't go for him.
Captain one of Vorm, Bosingwa or Silva.
Also, I don't see Torres scoring against Norwich, try and find an extra 1 and get Lamps in.

But thanks 😉 really dont know what to do.. and get rid of all the midfielders except Silva will cost me a lot of points.. Wildcard is just too early..

    Given Ruddy
    A.Cole Kompany Warnock Simpson Gabbidon
    Cahill Brunt Sinclair Hoolahan Moses
    Rooney Torres Bent

As horribly as my score looks so far I think I'm gonna stick and save a transfer this week. If it's still going then I might take a hit next week and make around 3/4 transfers for a 4/8 point hit.

The temptation is their for Torres -> Suarez / Aguero but with the comments from Kenny on Suarez I could see him starting and coming off early or coming off the bench, our fixtures aren't that great still. Aguero obviously looks a threat but as Andy said before with Tevez still around theirs still a case of too many cooks plus I can see their game against Spurs being tight. Torres gets another shot, he may not start but I'd be gutted if I tool him out for him to score well next week.

    Thoughts?

Problem with hangin onto Torres now is the couple of price drops he'll get in the next week. Can't see the logic selling him now tho. But logic often plays little or no part in this game. I'm sticking for 1 more game.

i personally think torres to suarez is a good move, torres had his chance at home to a team like west brom...he looked nowhere near as sharp as from the Torres we know in his prime at 'pool. Evidence suggests that he could be leaning more towards a player like shevchenko...a big punt from roman with no real fit...

although suarez's position may not fill the full 90 mins, be rest assured that he's less a punt than el nino and that boy and the whole 'pool team is on fire, he fits into the new season 'pool like a glove...

in conclusion torres had his best chance to score in terms of fixtures and home support. the fact that he didn't suggest he probably never will find his form...in chelsea anyway

I like your thinking, although I did wonder myself if Kenny's comments were paving the way for Carroll to start v Exeter, but for Suarez to be rested. Yeah, I'm probably way WAY off the mark...

I have Torres myself at the moment, and will get Aguero in at some point, but like yourself, would be far more comfortable with Tevez gone before doing so. So in short, I think your reasoning is spot on. One more chance for Torres at this stage of the season won't do extensive damage in the grand scheme of things.

suarez's value is likely to just keep going up, so by that rationale you might want to get him now, but be warned that kenny might rotate him a bit for the next few game-weeks, he indicated as much in his comments yesterday.

it's not really a knee jerk is it. you are talking about one of the best strikers in the world.

hardly a risk like some people are making out. If we are talking about someone who came up in a promoted team and scored a few goals and people are bringing them in then that's a completely different story.

Point was, people were talking like he was the best thing since Ronaldo and would score 8 trillion points a game. Still a player new to the league, trying to regain full fitness.

          A rare +1 😛

I can certainly understand the temptation but I'm glad I resisted it. As Partridge points out he isn't quite 100% fit yet plus there is the uncertainty regarding who exactly will play the most for city between him, Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli.

according to guardian dzeko and aguero will start next weeks game. They just produced a scout report on the game and noted tevez is not fit enough to start.

not sure where balotelli fits in

As good as it is the Guardian isn't 100% accurate. I think Aguero WILL start the lions share of games, but I can forsee him being rested for the odd easy one (where you'd really want him for FPL) to save him for a difficult match.
Pure guesswork obviously at this stage, but when you have four very good strikers that they need to keep happy it makes it sort of risky picking one of them.

Stupid as in unexpected, hindsight says I should've continued my old strategy - but I think picking Hilario was a good idea last week (and I'd do it again every time, just wish the option was never there [in hindsight]).

ok to improve my midfield i have to down grade some of my defenders

    bainsey and huth are staying

    so enrique downgraded to simpson

R Johnson down to W Brown

    with that ok

    would you pick

    Sinclair and Moses

    or

    Sess and N Dyer

to improve my midfiled which has

    VDV , Brunt and Jarvis

totally disagree with your view that sinclair/moses or sess/n'dyer is an improvement over VDV/Brunt/Jarvis.

and whatever you do, don't get rid of johnson. looked dominating today and, with wolves bossing possession so well, likely to get quite a few clean sheets.
