Man United rack up a comfortable win over Tottenham to join Wolves and Man City at the top of the table on six points. Wayne Rooney scores in the opening two league matches for the first time in his career, while Harry Redknapp is now insistent that Luka Modric stays put. Here’s this morning’s Scout Notes:

Youthful United
Sir Alex Ferguson fielded his second-youngest starting XI ever in the Premier League but the outcome was the same as ever. Patrice Evra returned from injury and was the only first-choice member of the back-four, although the recent performances of Chris Smalling at right-back may offer him a more regular slot in the first-team, even when Rafael recovers from his shoulder injury.

Fergie continued with the bustling, energetic pairing of Tom Cleverley and Anderson in central midfield and the duo played a crucial part in the goals- Cleverley’s cross created the opener and Anderson scored the second as United grabbed a firm hold of the match.

Fergie’s Forward Dilemma
Dimitar Berbatov once again sat out the proceedings, with Danny Welbeck vindicating his recent starting slot alongside Wayne Rooney up front with a goal and an assist. Javier Hernandez’s return to action as a sub, however, may signal the end of Welbeck’s game time, though with a game at home to Arsenal up next on Sunday, the United boss will be wary of the Mexican’s lack of match-fitness.

Fergie praised Welbeck for his influential display before admitting he has something of a selection dilemma up front:

He (Welbeck) is still only 20 years of age and the lad has a great future. If you look at Berbatov, Owen, Hernandez and Rooney, they all have different qualities. You have to utilise all that and make changes as best you can. The horrible part for me now is with having Javier back, what do we do? It is going to be a big problem for me.

Modric Staying Put, Says Harry

Earlier last week, Harry Redknapp had indicated he’d be willing to let Luka Modric move on if the money could be used to re-invest, but last night his opinion seemed to have changed. With Spurs chairman Daniel Levy adamant that the Croatian won’t be moving to Chelsea, Harry called for the pair to sit down and settle their differences, with the saga clearly starting to have an effect. Redknapp admitted the player’s head “wasn’t right†and left him out of the Old Trafford match, but post-match, stated:

He will stay and we will move on. The chairman has made his mind up that he’s not going to sell him and there’s no point this late in the window because it’s hard to get replacements and that won’t help anyone.

Spurs Soft Centre
With the likes of Sandro, Tom Huddlestone and Jermaine Jenas still out of the picture through injury, Harry Redknapp continued with Niko Krancjar and Jake Livermore in central midfield – the duo were impressive in the 5-0 win over Hearts last week but the current lack of options will surely see Redknapp make a move in the transfer market before the month is out. Former Arsenal player Lassana Diarra is out of favour at Real Madrid and, having working under Redknapp at Portsmouth, has been strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane

Redknapp on Changes
Brad Friedel started in place of Heurelho Gomes last night, with Kyle Walker replaced at half-time due to illness. Having given as good as they got in the first half, the Spurs boss admitted his tactics after going a goal down in the second forty-five put a more comprehensive spin on the scoreline and handed the initiative to United:

We were going well in the second half, no real problems, but we conceded a goal and then we opened up. That goal changed the game and gave them confidence. I brought Pavlyuchenko on, went with two up front, dropped Rafa into midfield, and then we looked very open.

We were looking for an equaliser but we became too open and it was a problem.I took a chance, looking for a goal. Rafa might score, Pav might score, Defoe might score, we still had two wingers on. We were very open but at 1-0 down it was a case of trying to get an equaliser.

    Hi,
    Two questions please:

    1. How do you see your transfer history now, and that of other teams: I love seeing what transfers my clueless rivals have made at 12:15 each saturday!

    2. Our minileague is set to "start scoring GW2" but it seems to be including points for GW1 in everyone's scores on the league table - why?

MJ, not sure you can easily at the mo, part of the FPL fix I suspect. But long-winded way is to go into rival's GW history, click last week and note changes from live team after deadline.

Torres, Cole, Baines even Lamp maybe too expensive for what they bring. You need 11 to 15 in form scoring players whose value will rise. If you don't get Bent, Rooney etc they'll end up too expensive.

You don't need to do Torres > Rooney yet. 4 point hit with scores so low will likely not pay off.

Wait it out until next week. The fixtures change GW 4 to favor certain teams. You'll want free transfers then to make decisions.

Question for this upcoming week, I've already used my one transfer but am now thinking whether to take out Yaya Toure, now he looks to be put in a holding role, for somebody else.. I only have 0.5m in the bank and it would obviously cost me 4 points.

If you do think I should take him out, who would you recommend for? Downing possible or somebody cheaper to free up more cash in the bank?

If it helps to advise, this is my current team...

    Hilario (Vorm)
Boswinga Warnock Baines (De Laet) (R Taylor)
    Nani Cahill Sinclair Toure (Ferguson)
    Torres Bent Jones

Why not play R Taylor at home to Fulham and bench Yaya if you think he won't perform? You could then take him out the week after for no point hit.

You need to be pretty confident that someone will score 4 more points that Yaya or R Taylor (good clean sheet chance) this week to justify taking him out.

      Only my thoughts though!

As the saying goes, the more things
change, the more they stay the same. We speculated in the pre-season about what differences the new bonus system might produce, given that it was now to be based on a scientific
    and objective formula.

The EA Sports index is based on six categories of contribution, which combine to give a player's overall contribution to a game. The approximate weighting appears to be as below:

    Scoring a goal: 90%
    Winning the game: 10%
    Other: 1%

    * *Rounding difference of +/- 1% is
possible Only two of the top 12 scorers in GW1 failed to find the net (Kompany and Yaya Toure) while all found themselves on the winning team.

In GW2 an incredible 13 of the top 20 scorers all benefited from having a goal to their name while the top 17 scorers all won their respective games. The top 20 scorers to date gives us 6 players who are yet to find the net -
Richards, S Taylor, Adam, Yaya Toure,
Bosingwa and Kompany. Four of these names are already highly prized fantasy assets anyway but Taylor and Adam at least bear mentioning.

They might as well just give extra points for goals if they want to weight goals as the most important factor, rather than have bonus points.

Bring back the "man in the stand" please! Moses GW1: best player by far = no points!

No chance of that now that they are getting sponsorship from EA I guess!

Just thinking out loud, feel free to chime in with opinions...

Interestingly I just looked at the gamecast from ESPN for the City Bolton game and the average positions of the players over the game are revealed. According to them Barry was actually deeper than Toure over the course of the game with both of them behind the half way line.

Again, against Swansea with De Jong playing, Barry was playing deeper than Toure, with Toure playing relatively high up the pitch. It seems Mancini sees Barry as more of a defensive midfielder than Toure regardless of the system.

It will be interesting to see how Mancini approaches games when De Jong is fit with the plethora of strikers he has. Stick with this modified 4-4-2 and drop Barry for De Jong. Or play with just one up front accommodating Barry, De Jong and Toure. I personally think he'll stick with 4-4-2 and will therefore be changing Toure to Silva after this GW. Anyone disagree and think Silva isn't worth the extra 1.5 (or more when price rises start)?

I swapped Silva to Toure after GW1 thinking there would be little difference between them, I now think it's the worst decision I've made along with captaining Torres for the opening two GWs!

Chelsea's Serbian central defender Slobodan Rajković has just arrived in Hamburg for a medical before joining Hamburger SV on a 3-year contract. The transfer fee will be around €2 million. Rajković will be HSV sporting director Frank Arnesen's fifth signing from Chelsea's reserve bench this summer.

Oh, and there's no truth whatsoever in the rumours in the British press today linking Arsenal with Bastian Schweinsteiger. The answer will always be SAGASIG - Schweinsteiger and Götze are staying in Germany.

Has anyone got the the fpl contact email address please

Or is everyone having the same problems with there head to head leagues? Ours was set to start gameweek 2, but all we see is people names? No fixture list or league table from this weeks matches.

Also in our main league we have a player missing from our league. It says at the bottom of our league Will be added at next points update but he never is?

Is anybody else having these problems because im now getting complaints from people in our mini league to scrap our head to head league and put the prize money for that back in with our main league.

Does anybody have any up to date info on any of this, would be much appreciated..

Lol Arnesen is turning them into a home for Chelsea rejects. You think they'll struggle this year? They seem to have lost players and not looking as good as previous years. It's a shame, I like them. Was in their stadium before.

Also think Schweinsteiger and Götze staying in Germany is best for the national team, and good luck to them. Excellent players.

With ten goals conceded in the first three matches, HSV already are struggling. Coach Michael Oenning is odds on to be the Bundesliga's first managerial casualty of the year.

Here's the highlights of their "five-goal thriller" away at Bayern Munich at the weekend.

i didn't get a team registered before the big site crash so a certain FFS legend gave me his second team after gw1, i made a load of transfers and made it my own from then on

so now I have a second team using my usual account just to keep my history ongoing but that team only starts scoring from gw2

          !!

Potential there, he looked good - the problem being he's a small fish in a big pond. There's a lot of players capable of scoring big in that team. Personally I'd like to have 5 of them 😀

I decided to drop Torres for Suarez, expect his value to rise quickly (especially if he scores again this weekend at home to Bolton) so decided no point waiting any longer to get him in, took the 4 pt hit. No doubt that all means a hatrick for Torres against Norwich!

bit of advise for my last slot for this weekend:
pick one out of these 4

    a) Simpson
    b) Obertan
    c) Senderos
    d) Andy Johnson

normally would say favour the home player but Andy Johnson has looked good recently.

I have a couple of Nicky Butt related questions.
Firstly, I assume the @nickbutt twitter account which tweets about FPL all the time isn't the man himself?
Secondly, where did the phrase never captain Nicky butt come from? Has he got the record minus points or something?

I'm annoyed at the bonus points system - it really shouldn't be about goals/assists/clean sheets players already get rewarded for that.

I want a system that gives credit to the defensive mids - and make them viable, tackles, number of passes etc that sort of thing. Not points for getting points...

I think the system takes that into account but then totally wipes that out by adding a bazillion points for a goal...

I know what you mean but we have got used to a system where the bonus points almost always go to the goal scorers. Who would really want de Jong to get all 3 bonus points just because he made loads of tackles instead of Silva who could score and assist?
