The Gameweek treated us to another powerful display from a Man City side who appear to have a new swagger about them – goals are top of the agenda, a mandate that is being directed via the flair of the impish David Silva – our player of the week.

City boast a 100% record along with the red side of Manchester, but it’s a Midlands side that deserves credit for ending the Gameweek with an identical record. This week’s digest focuses on a flourishing Wolves outfit, whilst dwelling on the decline of Arsenal as a Fantasy force – this week’s talking point.

The Player

David Silva’s display at the Reebok demonstrated that, around City’s new expensive recruits, it’s likely to be the Spaniard who remains the constant provider of quality and creativity.

Admittedly, Silva’s Reebok strike was somewhat fortuitous – Jussi Jaaskelainen, normally a reliable shot-stopper, should have read the swerve of the ball and prevented a soft goal. Even so, it’s impossible to detract from Silva’s influence on a match in which City once again showed an encouraging hunger for goals.

Silva’s Fantasy returns are surely set to profit from this new attacking verve. His assist count is set to surpass double figures while his eagerness to link with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko has already seen him increase his goal threat – emphatically emphasised by his two goals in two games. Most significantly, in a squad prone to rest and rotation, Silva’s influence looks so substantial, it seems unlikely that Roberto Mancini will go into many matches without the Spaniard. That situation may change should Samir Nasri be ensnared but, right now, Silva looks untouchable in a side that seems intent on beating opponents with sheer goal power.

The Team

While City and United have flexed their muscles with back-to-back wins, few would have anticipated that Wolves would rank up alongside them with a 100% record. Despite the undoubted quality on show in Manchester, Mick McCarthy’s side deserve our attention this week for having disposed of Martin Jol’s Fulham with apparent ease at Molineux on Sunday.

Wolves look a beautifully balanced outfit. Matt Jarvis has made a storming start to the campaign on the left-flank, realised by a goal and the assist for Kevin Doyle’s opening strike on Sunday. Stephen Hunt provides assured supply from the opposite wing and, whilst his performances are yet to show real Fantasy profit – it seems only a matter of time before he’s also amongst the points. Those two wide men supply a strike force of Steven Fletcher and Kevin Doyle who are both off the mark this season and resultantly brimming with confidence.

The spine running through the side is also strong – the acquisition of Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara has added rigidity and a huge battling influence. O’Hara is another player yet to return Fantasy points this term but, like Hunt, it won’t be long before we see him come to the fore.

The cauldron of a local derby at Villa up next will provide the biggest test so far. Another win for Wolves is not inconceivable however – particularly if Jarvis and Hunt can pin back Villa’s wingers and get at their full-backs.

The Talking Point

Arsenal’s decline from a top four superpower to a side desperately trying to plug holes as the injuries and departures bite, is saddening for the neutral.

Saturday’s display at the Emirates demonstrated that Arsene Wenger’s squad is now stretched to a point that they are struggling to compete with emerging threats for their top four status. It won’t have escaped Wenger’s notice that Samir Nasri, a player still perhaps poised to depart the Emirates, was their most creative and determined force. Emmanuel Frimpong alongside him at least provided some much-needed verve, but his second-half dismissal for a careless late challenge demonstrated that Wenger’s commitment to youth can only partially fill the cracks that are now appearing at an alarming rate.

It means there are slim pickings for Fantasy Managers. A month ago it was almost inconceivable to look beyond Robin Van Persie for a role in our squads – his consistent threat and goal-getting seemed irresistible. So far however, Van Persie has not only been unable to influence matches and offer Fantasy returns, he’s also looked out of sorts, almost disgruntled by the diminished force he now leads.

A trip to Old Trafford this weekend to face a United side with two wins and a squad rich in thriving young talent, looks a daunting prospect. Arsenal have fixtures to follow that provide them with a platform for recovery but injuries and suspensions will need to clear, confidence will have to flow once more through Wenger’s squad. Maybe then we can begin to take notice once again, but that could be weeks in coming.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm actually hoping Tim Cahill is ruled out injured for the weekend... that would give me the excuse to swap him for Silva.

Feeling very exposed not having Silva at the minute & Cahill looks to be the easiest route to getting him in out of this lot:

    Hilario
    Baines/Warnock/Bosingwa
    Lamps/Brunt/Cahill/Sessegnon
    Rooney/Suarez/Graham
    (Ruddy/Taylor/Simpson/Fox)

It's a word whisper, mate OR it's because they've forgotten your name |(if they actually knew you). Normally the former. Don't worry about it, it suggests subconciously that they're comfortable with you, which is a good thing.

Our bloody Sales rep at work insists on calling me "Jimmy" (no-one else does) about once every 10 seconds in conversation, as well as insinuating I'll agree with him when conversing with others: "Jimmy will agree with me that..." etc. more often than not when I'm not even part of the conversation and I have to look up and figure out WTF they were talking about.

I now manage conversation with him for about 10 seconds until I can no longer listen to what he's saying as I'm mentally stabbing him to death with my pen. Seriously, he goes on for ages and there are times I've gone 15 minutes without taking in a word he's said as I've been daydreaming about ways of torturing him.

Nah, luckily I'm just back from 2 weeks hols and he's off this week. He's not in the office that often but if I hear him on the phone to someone else I have to leave them room in-case they try to transfer him to me. If, on the rare occasion I pick up the phone it happens to be him I'm sure he can hear the creaking of the handset where I'm trying to crush it in frustration.

I think I have issues. Aside from that I'm quite mellow, except where looters, chavs, hoodies are involved and then I go back to wanting to stab people with pens...

People get really annoyed when I call them "sunshine" then pinch their cheeks as if they are a naughty child.

As I understand it, the gameweek one issues put things back quite a bit and they are still playing catch-up on applying features and restoring functionality that was always planned a lot earlier. They're working through a list of stuff and we will likely continue to see things being tweaked and added for a while yet.

Granville has our list to report to them that he's found or considered missing, some of which has been addressed. I'm in the process of knocking it into shape and sending it off to them.

i think price rises on silva are going to take longer because after a good performance against swansea in gw1 people could bring him in without price changes that week meaning the initial ownership of him is already very highy so it will take more people to buy him for his price to rise

Which team is better? (Is it worth using WC?)

    A)

    Hilario, Ruddy
    Richards, S.Taylor, Baines, Senderos, Simpson
    Larsson, Formica, Sinclair, Ferguson, Silva
    Torres, Aguero, Bent

    or

    B)

    Given, Ruddy
Richards, S. Taylor, De Laet, Bosingwa, Simpson
    Malouda/Other Chelsea, Nani/Young, Sessegnon/Nzogbia, Ferguson, Silva
    Suarez, Aguero, Long/Klasnic

    Thanks!

Any idea when Mata will come in? Reckon he'll start this weekend?

Also what you reckon out of Long or Klasnic? & Nani or Young? lol. The sessegnon/nzogbia comes purely down to money.

About mata signing , guess itll be confirmed near the close of the window . Would have to wait till the 5-6th GW for him to slot into the chelsea starting lineup .

Klasnic has good Goals/mins ratio , but the fixtures doesnt favour bolton much . He would be a gamble .
But Long is Certain to get some more points in the coming gameweeks as their ficture gets easier.

about NANI\YOUNG . Just my opinion . Young will get more assists ( cos of set pieces ) Nani will score more goals though .

And about Nzog , he might be pushed up to take up Agbonlahor's place with him being injured .
Dont really get the hype about Sess as yet . Sunderland seems boring in the final third , but i myself have Gyan.

Thanks, this is how its looking now:

            Given, Ruddy
Richards, S. Taylor, De Laet, Bosingwa, Simpson
            Malouda, Nani, Nzogbia, Ferguson, Silva
            Long, aguerro, suarez

unfortunately its 1.0 over budget! I guess I should could down on aguerro for bent but not really fancy having nzog & bent... bit too much villa?

Barring injury or some insane gain in form from three strikers at the same time I could quite happily keep bent in my team til GW30.

    I've jinxed that now then.

Bent will get a few 2 pts, but at home against weaker teams he is a double digit demon. so reliable. I had him in my team for the full 38 wks season before last. He only cost me 7m in gwk1 as well.

It's Torres to Bent for me but struggling with Chelski cover if I don't have Torres, can't figure out a regular starter...

Too be fair he can get the job done against the big boys too. Didnt he pretty much score against all the top 4 2 years ago? U cant ever bench the guy!

Problem is if u get him in, barring injury u can never really take him out or he will make u regret it!

Yeah but if you look at Villas fixtures across the season they don't go through too many terrible patches 15-18 (bol, LIV, ARS, sto) isn't very nice but also isn't that bad.
GW30-32 (ars, CHE, liv) is pretty terrible but it only takes a DGW to fall in that time and I'd still keep him.

I'd switch him to Long, Fletcher or Klasnic if you play 3 strikers. At 5.5M, he's a bargain 3rd striker for the bench.

I have Rooney, Suarez with Holt on bench.
