Spurs, Fulham and Stoke all comfortably qualify for the Europa League Group stages, though Martin Jol’s joy was tempered by a leg injury to John Arne Riise. Harry Redknapp starts to bring in the loan stars, with Craig Bellamy and Joe Cole next up on his radar. Arsene Wenger looks to France for midfield replenishments, while David Gill declares Man United’s summer spending is now at an end. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Fulham progressed to the Europa League group stages last night with a 3-1 aggregate win over Dnipro. The triumph was overshadowed by what Martin Jol described as a serious leg injury to John Arne Riise. While we await more on the prognosis, Fantasy managers will no doubt be eyeing up Riise’s replacement Matthew Briggs as a possible cheap alternative- the left-back comes in at 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Spurs also eased into the group stages with a 5-0 aggregate win over Hearts. Five-up from the first leg, Harry Redknapp fielded a few youngsters for last night’s return clash, though Tom Huddlestone played the full ninety minutes and will come into contention for a starting slot for Sunday’s home clash with Man City. . Redknapp also announced that Luka Modric will play against Roberto Mancini’s side.

Redknapp has continued his summer recruitment drive. Acquisitions have been thin on the ground for Spurs but yesterday saw two new names make their way to White Hart Lane on season-long loans: Juventus attacking midfielder Yago Falque and, of course, Man City’s former Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor. Redknapp is itching for more, though, and has even mentioned Joe Cole as a possibility.

Craig Bellamy also comes into the equation for Harry- Man City are desperate to get the player off their books and may even pay off the remainder of his contract in order to ensure his exit. The Welshman has also been linked with a return to former club Liverpool.

Arsene Wenger has turned to his native France in the hunt for new midfield recruits. The likes of Marvin Martin and Yann MVila are on the Gunners bosses radar ahead of next Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

Newcastle were the final Premier League team to play in the Carling Cup this week and Ryan Taylor once again showed his eye for a killer free-kick for the second game on the trot. Sammy Ameobi spared Alan Pardew’s blushes with his first Magpies goal late in injury time to ensure his side’s progression.

Tony Pulis fielded a strong line-up as Stoke beat FC Thun 4-1 at home to book a place in the Europa League group stages. Robert Huth and Matt Etherington missed out due to suspension, while Jermaine Pennant recovered from a weekend knock sustained at Norwich to take his place in the first X. Kenwyne Jones continued his strong start to the new campaign with a brace and Matthew Upson got his Potters career off to a good start with the opener.

Man United chief executive David Gill reckons the club are done buying for the season ahead. The champions have been linked with a move for Wesley Sneijder all summer but the Dutchman’s astronomical wage demands, coupled with the recent performances of the likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson in central midfield areas, means United are now content with their current squad and Gill said yesterday:

I don’t think there will be another arrival. We’re very comfortable with that. We’ve looked at various players but we’re comfortable with the squad. We’ll progress now and I’m sure Sir Alex will get the best out of them over the next few months. We’re very happy with the squad. We’ve made some great additions and are well equipped for the months ahead.

Man U goal maybe he was a bit lucky but the goal against Chelsea he showed good strength to muscle Alex off the ball and it was a good finish.

Want some West Brom cover. How does Kompany -> Warnock, Muamba -> Long sound? Is Warnock generally a starter? Guessing that Kompany is the one to lose out of those three...

easy then....option 1. 8 points is a lot to give away before an international break.

        The thinking is:

GW3:Fletcher and Osman for Dzeko and Barkley = 4 point hit. Barclay/Osman is like for like but Dzeko may get me the 4 points back.

GW4: Lampard and Bent for Nasri/Silva and RVP = 4 point hit but I'm sure latter two will outscore the former. Thoughts?

not convinced, but i've had a horrible start to this season which involved using the wildcard in gw2 to foul up a good team...

you use the words "but", "may, "i'm sure". doesn't sound a compelling argument to me.

            Thanks,
            another option is:

GW3: Osman out for Barkley = free
GW4: Lampard, Bent and Suarez for Nasri, RVP and Tevez/Aguero/Dzeko = 8 point hit

Planning on taking this team into gw3

    Given (Vorm)
    Enrique Baines Bosingwa (Kompany Simpson)
    Moses Sess Duff Nani N'Zogbia
    Torres Suarez (A.Johnson)

Thinking of keeping the faith in some of the players I could chop. Are there any changes I should make or any transfer(s)? Still got the one free one for the week not used. Am still deciding between one out of Kompany, Simpson, Moses or Johnson and who to captain. What do people reckon??

Ah the stress of a Friday afternoon.. with team news starting to filter through, decisions to be made.

I'm going to stick with Torres for one more week. He's going to score like 5 goals after everyone else subs him out.

I appear to be stuck with Saha for now... but you never know, he might actually play for longer than 30 seconds. I might captain him for a guarenteed 2 points.

Of course I wont.. Suarez will get the armband this week and by doing that, I have put the mockers on him to either not score and get sent off, or not play a single minute. My apologies to everyone else who has made the same decision.

Ramsey is still there in my midfield.. my only temptation for a transfer. But I dunno.. I have a sneaky feeling Arsenal might actually start their season this week against the mancs.

Will Moses be fit? Does anyone care? Will this game take over my entire afternoon?

    Most probably.

I'm thinking of leaving him in the team for that reason. He may turn into a decent differential.

I'm more concerened of having made a big mistake picking Saha tbh.

I'm going to leave it as is, and use my two transfers next week wisely.

Might go for a 5 man mid(Young, Moses, Sinclair, Silva, Ramsey), 2 up front (torres and Suarez), and put Saha in as my 1st sub and Simpson as second, so if both moses and saha dont play, I should hopefully get a reward from the newcastle def.

    His fixtures from GW4 are:
SPURS QPR Liverpool NEWCASTLE wba SWANSEA

4 home games in 6 and he's looking like he's on great form.

Anything else (both positive and negative) about this transfer? Current midfield is: Young, Hoolahoop, Sinclair, Yaya
