When it comes to Fantasy talent, more often or not, you get what you pay for.

When the pre-season price lists emerged, we spent the weeks before kick-off lamenting the price of established heavy-hitters and harbouring hopes that a string of mid-price midfield talent could fill gaps in our squads. The savvy Fantasy manager could see the potential. There were secret meetings about the promise of Victor Moses, whispered pub conversations about the prospects of Jamie O’Hara.

Consistency comes as a price, however. When we take a punt on mid-price talent, we’re not in a position to rage when the points aren’t delivered. We will rage regardless but, when the mists clear, the reality is that we have to have patience to get the most from these players.

Or do we? With an international break denying us Fantasy action next weekend, there’s now an alarming gap between Gameweeks – a yawning void that can easily prompt the sturdiest of knees to twitch into a full blown jerk; particularly if the Gameweeks have so far failed to deliver.

There will be glares of frustration aimed at an array of players, many of which came into the season with weighty expectations on their shoulders. You can take the aforementioned Moses and O’Hara and add Scott Sinclair, Adel Taarabt, Stephane Sessegnon and, in particular Charles N’Zogbia – currently the third most owned midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Should Chris Brunt and Stewart Downing draw further blanks in their matches this weekend, you can then throw their names into the hat.

A hit-list? A compilation of failing Fantasy talent that’s ripe for the chop? While the international break will tempt wholesale changes from the suffering Fantasy manager, short-term squad surgery has to be controlled. Our mid-price talent should surely be given time to demonstrate their worth.

The signs have been positive enough – Taarabt struck the woodwork twice at Wigan today, Moses had further opportunities and struck the bar at Swansea, Sinclair was also denied by the bar against Sunderland. Should we expect more? Did we really expect such players to deliver on their promise immediately?

The answer to that depends greatly on whether your heavy-hitters have been performing. If you’re without Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and David Silva, then their pulling power over the break will be substantial and is likely to prompt change. Come the revolution, the ailing mid-price midfielder could be first to go – downgraded to bench-warming fodder, sacrificed to bring in a big name elsewhere.

Such a decision has to be taken with care. That’s the thing about the consistency of a mid-price midfielder – just as we’re on dodgy ground when we’re berating its failure after three Gameweeks, we’ll only have ourselves to blame when it delivers on its promise out of the blue.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Had Lamps but changed captain to Rooney at last minute. I know Lamps is reliable but wasnt sure due to him playing a deeper role, but I should have know better if he was playing Norwich at home. Went to Rooney due to form but I have a feeling Arsenal will get a draw. Wounded animal and all.

Arteta was on for the penalty. Why wasnt Baines. Is he nr2, or is that to early to tell?

    Richards bosingwa enrique simpson n.taylor

    Vdv silva walcott moses johnson

    Suarez rooney odemwingie

Gw2 free trade fu*k up fixed. Bring on next week 😀
Will choose one of Moses, Johnson, Simpson or Taylor to play each week, 2 when bos, micah or enrique have a shocking fixture. So pending injuries the weekly transfers can be used shuffling the big six in attack.
If I can get 2 double risers this fortnight I can afford krul over ruddy.

Vorms a good option for good home games. Swansea keep the ball and their shape so well and when he does face shots his reactions are unbelievable.

I have a forward line of Torres, Bent and Holt. Having an 8m defender in Baines has made my forward line rather weak. I was planning on either doing Torres -> Suarez now, or doing Torres,Nani,Baines -> RVP/Rooney/Augero, Mata, Distin for a 4 pointer.

I'd get Suarez now. You'll want him and he's going up in price tonight (supposedly).

althought i dnt mind blackburn going down, i dnt think they will. teams that stuggle early have a lot of time to try different things, change management... and eventually stay up.
wba change of maangement in midseason helped them, because they struggled early. blackpool and birmngham struggled late so couldnt do much about it. blackburn change of management early allowed them to stay up (although i think they wouldv done way much better with Big Sam)

      for this year i see:

      swansea
      norwich

Bosingwa and Suarez are going to fight it out for highest riser.

Nani is just missing simple chances, I'm hoping for an improvement today as a United fan with Nani in my team.

And I agree with your sentiments, I wildcard early to ensure I have the players that are going to rise and pick up the form players early on (allowed me to jump on Nani/Carroll/Adam/VdV very early last season and collect points quickly, by the time you want to make mass changes later on you're either stuck with players that have risen excessively that you can't sub out for 2/3 weeks for fixtures or you're behind on cash flow since you missed out on price rises).

"please rate me, love me, accept me, I'm so insecure I can't possible pick my team on my own..."

I thought the forums would be discussion on individual performances or perhaps on football. Not this endless, "I can't pick my own team" cr@p.

Wildcard played yesterday as planned - managed to get in on Bosingwa and Jarvis before their price rises :), not sure I'd want to keep Jarvis long-term, but if I get a double price rise out of him I'll be happy.

I see a lot of people with Given/Vorm - I've gone Schwarzer/Vorm since they rotate better (no villa coverage at all), any reason I'm wrong here?

Dump N'Zog now, watching yesterday he looked frustrated and out of sorts. Shot from stupid positions with better options available.

I don't think being 3rd/4th on the list of attackers suits him (depends where you rank Heskey). But that's just my view.

Anderson, not likely to score a boat load, there's a lot better value at that price range (see the article above, Sinclair et al will eventually hit the net).

Torres, nearly man (kind of like Berbatov 2/3 seasons back), look sharp but just off on all his shots.

From the Norwich game, Torres does NOT look sharp at all, but was ON TARGET with his only attempt on goal with a header from Mata's flick.

Exactly the opposite of what you claim, which makes me think you're basing your statements on something... other than the actual soccer.

LOL - to be fair I was switching channels and dozing off, but he was getting in behind quite a bit from my recollections. And that header off Mata's cross was very encouraging.

Sad to say, that was one of only two brilliant moments in a match where he looked awfully lost. (The other one where he slid Drogba in with a simple but nice pass, but Drogs failed to connect.)

Other than that he just seemed to be consistently losing the ball in the midfield. Disappointing, and without a doubt Chelsea's poorest player of the day.

I don't think we disagree on outcome though, I don't think he'll score highly since he's just not finishing off his chances.

On another day, that header goes in and Drogba finishes that move off. We'd be talking about a 9-12 point haul then, but to me his whole season is going to be full of nearly moments.

Assuming you're applying some sort of a personal Murphy's law, by that logic, if you keep him, he won't score right?

So do us Torres owners a favour and transfer him out? Please?

Saha, Zamora & Balotelli decreased again. Makoun, McEachran, Kalou, Hibbert, Gueye, Riise, Dembele, Ngog, Clichy, Crouch, Pavlyuchenko, DJ Campbell & Bothroyd all decreased.

        Sorry, let me rephrase:

You could pick a midfield of VdV/Silva/Lampard/Moses/Dyer at the cost of a big name striker and better support mids (will also affect your defence moving you from Kompany/Bosingwa to Warnock/Hughes etc)

So is the cost worth it?

According to me , NO . Lamps is past his prime . The only good thing about him now is that he is on pens . Fk's too r much often taken by others
now that there is Mata at 9.5 you can get him ,( with your Mid still looking heavy ), you can also use the extra money elsewhere and improve your team balance .

You need to see that in comparison to the 'value' for strikers: Klasnic, Davies, Holt, Zamora, Rodagella, Long, etc

You will have to dip in to one of those pools, my view is that the midfield pool is stronger by some margin.

i still can carry him while having 2 potential high income bargains in enrique and bosinga. also baines only takes half the free kicks, in other words the ones require a left foot while arteta takes the right foot ones.
