Manchester United have just joined Edin Dzeko in turning Gameweek three upside down.

In 90 minutes of football, United simply blitzed a bewildered Arsenal, ravaged by injury and suspension, ill-equipped and unprepared for the waves of United attacks and individual brilliance thrown at them.

For Fantasy owners of Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young, United’s 8-2 win has brought a rare bounty of points that will have transformed their Gameweek scoring. Three goals and an assist from Rooney, a brace and and three assists from Young, the returns are beyond our wildest expectations and the stuff of nightmares for Arsenal fans and their beleaguered manager who could only watch on while their inexperienced and shell-shocked side were dismantled. Those Fantasy managers without the United pair are unlikely to feel much better – mini-leagues have been turned on their head by today’s events.

This afternoon will have a major impact on the Fantasy Premier League game with Young and Rooney now inevitably set to enjoy huge investment during the international break. Prices will rise, Wildcards will flutter – an extraordinary end to our Fantasy Gameweek.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Should Rooney not have another assist? It was clearly not an assist in real football but going by the wording of the rules it sounds like he should have!

          Even though I don't have him, I'd say it probably should be added under these stupid rules. He crossed it in, defender in the box cleared it, Young(?) shot and scored. Stupid stupid rule though.

            I don't get it now. This is what the rules say:
            --
            Assists

            Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

            If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

            In the event of a penalty or free-kick, the player earning the penalty or free-kick gets an assist if a goal is directly scored, but not if he takes it himself, in which case no assist is given.

            All assists are reviewed before the points are updated at the end of each day.

              First sentence: Rooney was the player from the goalscoring team who made the last touch.

              Second sentence: touches of deflection/clearance were made by opposing players in the box.

              If this is as read, because Rooney got last touch for Man United - it's his assist.

                Yeah I get how you reason now. Can never see it being added though, just a bad choice of words in the rules.

                  There hasn't been anything as stand-out "silly" as this, but they've already been doing it for other goals the only major difference is Rooney was far away (it's like a long range 'save')... heck, I don't think he warrants giving me the extra six points. But that is what the rules says.

              Rooney was the last player from the goal scoring team to touch the ball (crossed it into the box).

              Defender deflected the ball - albeit massively - from inside the box.

              Ball came to Young, who shot and scored.

              E.g. I think this would be a Barton assist under these new rules.

              Not entirely sure, but that's how I read into it. Ridiculous if that is actually the case though.

                That is actually a shocking mistake by the FPL if true. Pretty bad stuff. Will mean completely random assists popping up all over the place

                  I think every goal will have an assist now. Either a normal assist, dodgy one like the above or assist from winning goals from direct free-kicks.

                    Actually, scrap that. A goal like Mata's wouldn't get an assist as the opposing player last touched it outside the box.

                    Wherever possible.

                    I'm willing to bets they were hounded (and perhaps felt) that they too harshly didn't give assists previously so are now going to try going the other way this season.

                    I can see the reasoning. Many times last season they must've had thousands of ranting emails asking for assists to be given/taken away when there was a bit of a deflection from the defenders, e.g. Bale's dodgy assist.

                    It's hard to judge just exactly how much of a deflection is needed before it's not an assist, so I can see why they've done this, but it is ridiculous really.

                It's just like Petrov getting the assist for the Bent goal against Blackburn as far as I can see, just from a different angle. Wouldn't have been given last year.

                Ball into box and deflected 'out' by a defender yet he still got it - albeit this time about 2 yards deflection and ball in was from central and not out wide, but I don't think you can do one if not the other.

                I think it should be added. I won't complain if they don't.

                Rooney's cross took two deflections if I'm correct. The rulses say AN opposing player. Won't be added.

      Yeah, he might get one more (I won't moan if he does obviously, but wouldn't dare to if he doesn't).

      This would be one for the FPL 'review board' to add themselves though when all are looked at because, as you say, it's not going to be given as an assist by the people (Press Association) who provide the data where points scoring comes from because it's blatantly not an assist - but might now be an FPL valid 'assist'.

        Young's first. In football it's not an assist... under the FPL rules where basically every goal has an assist, it probably now is.

      I don't think there is any option but to take Rooney. Dzeko is still a risky choice, but you know you're in safe hands with a Rooney in this sort of condition. You could go with both though.

    A) Lamps+sinclair > Walcott+Adam

    B) Lamps+hoolahan > Walcott+Downing/dempsey

    C) Lamps+sinclair+hoolahan > Walcott+A.Young+N.Dyer with a 4 point hit

    leaning towards A or C at the moment, any thoughts?

    In inverse order of aggravation.

    Well, this week I have made it thru a 5.8 earthquake 70 km away and a Hurricane (eye was about 80 km away) and just got power back on after 16 hours (I missed the games today, ahem), but most aggravating is this new FPL site. It's down for hours. I go with the flow on natural disasters, but this is manmade.

    Coupled with GW1, I'm pretty dissatisfied, just too much time wasting. At least the football was "great" and unexpected today.

      What is Tevez' status? I'd be concerned I would be getting half a forward in either Dzeko or Aguerro- I already had Aguerro. 2.5 goes a long way to improvement, but I would wait for the intl break to pass regardless, unless your choice is not playing.
