Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Mikel Arteta from Everton just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut. The Spanish midfielder has completed a move for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million – Arteta has signed a four-year deal for the North London club.

The transfer looks to be the most significant of a busy transfer deadline day for Fantasy managers. Arteta brings his undoubted playmaking abilities to the Emirates, alongside tonight’s loan signing of Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea, as Arsene Wenger swoops to compensate for the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. In Fantasy terms, Arteta represents a potential bargain – a cut-price route to Arsenal’s attacking potential prior to a run of favourable fixtures.

The deal for Arteta looked to have stalled earlier this evening with Everton believed to have rejected a proposed bid that included a Nicklas Bendtner plus cash deal. An hour later however, it was reported that Arsenal had returned with a straight cash offer after Arteta had requested to leave Goodison.

Arsenal were able to complete the deal before the deadline and now, presumably, Arteta will join up with his new team-mates ahead of the Emirates clash with Swansea a week on Saturday.

Arteta will attract immediate Fantasy interest. His passing ability and set-piece influence offers Wenger an added dimension in a midfield that has been robbed of key talent and, at just 8.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game, he looks a sound investment.

The Spaniard’s fitness will be a slight worry – like Robin Van Persie, Arteta is a talent that has been cursed by a string of injuries which have curtailed his Fantasy returns in recent seasons. Even so, in the mid-term, Arteta’s price and potential looks set to outweigh that concern, particularly as the Gunners ready themselves for a run of opponents which promises rich attacking returns with four home matches in the next six (SWA bla BOL tot SUN STK).

Arteta would seem set to take up a central role playing alongside a holding midfielder, or even in front of a Song/Wilshere combination, prompting and probing and offering a goal threat from range. Set-pieces are also in his locker and there is a chance, with Van Persie missing from the spot at Old Trafford, that Arteta could even be handed penalty kick duties.

Back at Goodison meanwhile, David Moyes is left with a squad that has seen Arteta, Jermaine Beckford and Yakubu depart today. The loss of the Spanish playmaker will come as a hammer blow to Everton’s ambitions this season.

For Fantasy managers, the departure of Arteta will restore Leighton Baines as the club’s spot-kick taker and land him responsibility for direct free-kicks. The left-back appeared to have surrendered those duties on Arteta’s return to the starting lineup at Blackburn last weekend, but will now have his return potential boosted accordingly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

cannot see al habsi keeping a clean sheet anytime soon.

torres looks like a failure so far, but I'll hold judgement until i see him work with mata.

shawcross i like when playing at home, away not so much.

I am just a little unsure about aguero's playing time.

could swap simpson to neil taylor who seems to be a bit of a favourite.

i'd also be tempted to look at some arsenal coverage. not good form so far but they have good fixtures and a point to prove..

I don't know what Moyes thinks he is doing. Sells Beckford, who scored 8 goals last year with hardly any game time. He then signs some unknown Argie to replace him, who is totally unproven at this level. Madness. Beckford would have scored with decent service and a good strike partner but Moyes persists with his 4 5 1 when fans are crying out for a 4 4 2. It is not even like they keep that many clean sheets these days - last week they should have conceded 2 vs blackburn were it not for the pen misses.

Up to 4 million for Beckford, who they got on free last year. With there money worries, you can see what they're up to. Stracqualursi on loan so they can bank the Beckford money.

Arteta is another player who can pull up injured at any moment. Big risk. He will never get spot kicks either - that is nonsense - they will remain with Van Persie. Baines may look a better option but yet again Everton have their options limited and are in big trouble if injuries bite.

My WC team is shaping up like this at the moment. Still early I know, but how does it look?

    GK: Vorm - Krul

DEF: Bosingwa - Smalling - Enrique - De Laet - Taylor(SWA or NEW)

    MID: Silva - Arteta - Mata - Cleverely - N. Dyer

FWD: Rooney - Dzeko - Suarez

I really like it. Very solid. Good spread of attacking coverage with 6 solid big hitters in mid/attack. Not sold on Cleverley, but there aren't many gems at 5.5m. Would be interested to see how Jenas gets along at Villa as a 2.0m cheaper alternative to N'Zogbia. Defense also covers the 'big' teams in Chelsea, Utd and Pool. I'm a little jealous actually, being one who is holding my WC. It's almost tempting me to whip it out!

You're probably the smarter man for keeping it! Yeah 5.5M midfield choices are pretty slim. Maybe Petrov/Eagles when Bolton fixtures get better but I think Cleverely will continue to start in the immediate short term. Jenas could definitely be a good shout depending on how they choose to utilize him. N'Zog has been useless so far so a cheap alternative could be nice.

Smalling I won't go for either. ManU playing city/chel/pool/ever in next 6 gameweeks. Sun/Ful next 3/4 at home might be an option. Might also save 1m on a player.

Given/Begovic is 10M in comparison to Krul/Vorm at 8.5M. The first pairing is definitely favourable tbh but need the extra cash. Could maybe downgrade Smalling to Hughes/Shawcross/Ward/etc but wouldn't feel as confident about my defense. Definitely a generic forward line but tough to resist not having them!

Yep, I fancy he'll establish himself up front for Sunderland. He's certainly not short of confidence (to put it mildly) and although he's always a frustrating player to have in your fantasy side because of the amount of sitters he misses, if you give him enough service then he will score you goals... and Larsson and Elmo are decent enough providers.

I reckon he'll get 10+ goals this season, with a few assists thrown in.

I know gw 4 is still a ways off, but any thoughts on best mid term 6.0 mid if theres any real value to be had there ( as opposed to downgrading for upgrading defense)?

Brunt seems popular, but he looked really off in the stoke game, and if torres taught me anything, its that players off form can find a way to get zero returns in even the most favorable of fixtures

Jarvis is another, but I think he's been pretty fortunate to get what he's gotten points wise... Hunt looks the best I thinks at this point but hasn't done much besides bonus points, and I'm not really seeing ohara get in on it either

How's everyone see Arsenal lining up? More so the midfield
I thought the front three would be Gervinho RVP and Walcott
but that would mean Song at defensive mid, Wilshere (when fit) and Arteta surely there too, does that mean Ramsey/Arteta/Benayoun are massive rotation risks?

Will Ramsey lose his starting place to Arteta and Yossi? Can we expect another price drop for him?

Who do you guys think will be worth a shout to buy from all the new forwards? Bendtner/Sunderland, Crouchinho/stoke, Ngog/Bolton or the new Everton guy?

      ---Gervinho--------Rvp---------Walcott-----
      --------------Arterta------------------
      -----Song-------------------Wilshere------
      ---Santos---Mertsacker---Verma-------Sagna--
      --------------Sczny--------------------

This is Arsenal's 1st team when everyone is fit..Benayoun could repalce anyone in the front 3 and Arterta..Also Ramsey/Rosicky/Arsha/Park to be rotated..and Frimfrong could start when he is not suspended..

Would it be better to sell Kompany+Nzog and get Walcott+Taylor (swansea), or sell Nzog+Brunt to get Walcott+Dyer?
