Brace yourselves, folks. It’s transfer deadline day and Jim White is already pacing the Sky Sports studio, foaming at the mouth and muttering β€œBreathe, son. Breeeaaathe…”.

Us? We hope to bring some sanity to the ensuing madness and offer you all the news and deals as they arrive, with mini-Scout Reports thrown in throughout the day for good measure. Will Arsene manage to outdo β€˜Arry? Will Chelsea finally bag Luka Modric?

Or more importantly, can Mark hire Sky Sports Olivia Godfrey to help present today’s Window Watch with Andy and myself?

Here’s what’s got the papers talking:

Per Mertesacker
The centre half’s move to the Emirates is imminent and should be one of the first to be confirmed today. Mertesacker is the type of towering presence Gunners fans have been crying out for for years and is a significant move by Arsene Wenger in his rebuilding plans.

Luka Modric
There are conflicting reports on this one. Some reckon the deal is dead, others reckon a cash-plus Yossi Benayoun option could persuade Spurs to part with their Croatian playmaker.

Raul Meireles
The Liverpool midfielder has failed to start a league game this season and is out of favour at Anfield following a summer of midfield arrivals. Chelsea could offer him a new home if their bid for Modric finally hits the skids.

Florent Malouda
Arsenal are rumoured to be eyeing up a cross-London swoop, with the arrival of Juan Mata putting question marks against the Frenchman’s Chelsea future. Alternatively, Arsene Wenger’s search for further creativity may lead him to the door of Eden Hazard, Marvin Martin or Mario Goetze.

Gary Cahill
The move for Mertesacker has reportedly ended Arsenal’s interest in the Bolton centre half. Harry Redknapp hasn’t given up, though, and a move to Spurs, with Sebastien Bassong heading to the Reebok, is possibly on the cards.

Scott Dann
The Birmingham centre half had been linked with a move to Liverpool but yesterday’s move for Sebastian Coates means Dann is on the radar of Bolton and Blackburn. If Cahill moves on, he’s a strong favourite to arrive at the Reebok.

Yann M’Vila
Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the tough-tackling Rennes midfielder and with plenty cash still to splash will have no trouble in snapping him up if he’s willing to pay big money.

Scott Parker
Harry Redknapp admitted yesterday that a deal for the West Ham midfielder is ”very, very close”. Parker has been linked with a move to Tottenham for the past couple of transfer window and West Ham’s relegation last season means Parker is so determined to push through a move, he handed in a transfer request yesterday.

Owen Hargreaves
Yesterday saw the surprise announcement that the free agent was having a medical at the Etihad Stadium. If it’s completed by 11pm this evening, he looks like becoming a Man City player.

Brian Ruiz
Fulham look to have beaten Spurs for the winger’s signature. The Costa Rican is rumoured to cost around Β£10.6m from Dutch club FC Twente. Ruiz spoke ahead of the proposed move:

Fulham is a serious option for me. That is also a Premier League side and it is a fantastic league. Fulham already contacted my agent. If Fulham does become serious, we will definitely talk.

Rumours are also flying that this could see Clint Dempsey move to big-spending PSG before today is through.

Federico Macheda
Newcastle are lining up the Man United youngster on a season-long loan deal. Macheda’s arrival would see him follow compatriot Davide Santon to St James’ Park and will provide competition for the likes of Leon Best, Demba Ba, Peter Lovenkrands and the Ameobi brothers up front.

Joe Cole
French champions Lille are in for the Liverpool midfielder, but Cole is biding his time. A move to either Tottenham or QPR has been mooted but wages would prove a stumbling block for the latter.

Cameron Jerome
Stoke have this morning agreed a deal with Birmingham to take the forward to the Britannia. Having previously been linked with Peter Crouch and Nicklas Bendtner, and having seen a loan move for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku scuppered yesterday, Tony Pulis looks like giving the Blues striker the chance to return to the Premier League.

Anton Ferdinand
Sunderland’s surplus of central defenders means Rio’s kid brother could be on his way out of the Stadium of Light. New QPR owner Tony Fernandes is determined to add to the signings of Joey Barton, Luke Young and Armand Traore. Neil Warnock has been sniffing around. The club are also on the verge of a deal for Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Alan Hutton
The right-back has fallen further down the pecking order at Spurs, with Kyle Walker emerging as a first-choice option at the Lane. Hutton has played under Alex McLeish at Glasgow Rangers and the pair look likely to be reunited at Aston Villa , with Big Eck in the market for a replacement for the departed Luke Young.

Peter Crouch
The Spurs striker seems surplus to requirement after the arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor. Stoke had previously been linked but Steve Bruce has now entered the picture. Sunderland are lining up a Β£10m bid as they look to solve their goalscoring problem- the Black Cats have found the net once in four games so far.

Sulley Muntari
The midfielder’s agent said yesterday

Tottenham and Fulham are several of the Premier League teams that are interested in Muntari. But right now his destination is not unclear. Muntari wants to play in the Premier League. He really likes that tournament and his family would be very happy in London.

Alvaro Pereira
Reports indicate Chelsea have agreed a Β£20m deal with Porto and the wing-back is set to link up with old boss Andre Villas-Boas at Stamford Bridge.

    1. I read Frank's posting on his Total FPL this morning that he has found corrections to the algorithms and he will upgrade them today as a matter of priority, so TFPL should be more accurate from now on.

    2. WC is well and truly flushed. I started the season with what looked like a balanced squad but I hadn't anticipated the fantastic form of the Manchesters. Waiting to do xfers in 1s and 2s would have meant Rooney, Young, Dzeko and co getting out of reach and when better to play it than during international break and pending the xfer window deadline. No regrets.

    3. To all fellow WCers, there is absolutely no point in doing RMTs now. This fortnight is all about catching price shifts and settling on a team before 11:30 Saturday morning 10 September.

On Monday, i did Torres & Hoolahan > Dzeko and Walcott as i couldn't afford any price drops/rises if i wanted to do it. starting to regret it a bit now and thinkn=ing i should have waited till next week. anyone think i was right or wrong to do those transfers?

Walcott will most likely play. Not too sure about Dzeko. Easy home game vs Wigan after tough international with such a depth in the squad, rotation might happen.

Going to do Bent and Hoolihan for those guys also. Just waiting for the transfer window to shut as I need to use the wildcard as I have been going crap. Should be happy to get them before they go up again. Good luck with them. I need it also.

    3 points:

    1) Can we not see how many places we have risen and fallen on the history now?

    2) Nasri or Silva?

I would say no. 5 changes is not that many, you won't make much money doing it and you might want to use it when you have more urgent changes later

I'm tempted to transfer Lampard -> Nasri for a 4 point hit today to join in on the 'fun' of transfer deadline day. Anyone agree or is this madness?

Pros: I prefer MCY fixtures over the next 6 GWs, would catch Nasri's price rise, frees up some cash
Cons: already have Dzeko as MCY cover, 4 point hit, Lampard nailed on to start and on pens

    Given Ruddy
    Collins Simpson Brown Bosingwa Baines
    Lampard Larsson Brunt O'Hara Dyer
    Dzeko Suarez Bent
