It’s a post-deadline day filled Scribbles this morning, folks. As the dust finally settles on some of Wednesday’s big deals, many of the main protagonists have been speaking about their moves and even those that didn’t pan out are revealing. Wesley Sneijder admits he almost made a switch to Old Trafford, while Kia Joorabchian, agent of Carlos Tevez, has now hinted at a long-term stay in Manchester for his homesick client. Here’s some quotes to chew over:

Reports today suggest Nicklas Bendtner has vowed never to return to Arsenal. The forward, currently on loan at Sunderland, feels he’s never quite been given the chance to prove himself at Arsenal and is determined carve out a career elsewhere:

“I will never go back to Arsenal. If I can have it my way, I will never play for them again. After my car accident I never really got the chance to earn a spot in the first team. That is over one-and-a-half years with no real chance to prove myself. I am really looking forward to playing for Sunderland and then we will see next summer.

I will find a new club – but I will not go back to Arsenal, that’s for sure.”

Wesley Sneijder has denied his failed move to Man United centred around wage demands. The Dutchman had been chased all summer by the champions and admitted that although he came very close to signing, it was more a matter of lifestyle that persuaded him to stay in Italy:

They [Manchester United] are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it didn’t seem a bad thing. I just felt that it was close, yes. We had several talks. The situation was such that Inter had to sell a player, either Samuel Eto’o or me, and indeed there was interest. But at the same time I don’t want to leave Inter.

My feeling was that I was simply feeling very good at Inter. I love the club, but also the Italian culture and the people. It fits with me.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed his frustration as some of the Swansea bosses targets failed to materialize. Rodgers was looking for midfield reinforcements and the agent of Franco Borini, who had previously been on loan at the Liberty Stadium last season, also admitted Rodgers had missed out in another loan swoop for his client. The Swansea boss said:

So there was one or two players that we maybe wanted to get that we weren’t able to get but that was through no fault of our own, it was just circumstance and maybe just a little bit late.

But overall yes I’m relatively pleased and now it’s shut, we can now move on and we know where we’re at.

Alex McLeish was delighted with his capture of Alan Hutton on a four-year deal from Spurs. The pair had previously worked together at Glasgow Rangers and with Villa desperate for a right-back after Luke Young’s move to QPR, Big Eck swooped on deadline day to bring his compatriot to Villa Park. McLeish talked up the new boy yesterday:

He’s a good signing for us. We do lack a bit of experience in the squad. To get Alan, an international in his prime is a great coup for us. Alan has got five or six years ahead of him. There were some problems between him and Harry Redknapp, but you never know what happens.

I would certainly like to think, with the experience he has gathered, he should be able to come to our club and not be fazed in any way. He’s definitely got great athleticism.

Carlos Tevez’s advisor Kia Joorabchian admitted yesterday that his client may have a long-term future at Manchester City after all. The agent was on record as saying:

At the end of the day – as Carlos said at the end of the season – professionally, he is happy at the club. He is happy in the situation, it was more to do with his family really.

He has managed to convince his wife to come over for a while at least. If she manages to settle in hopefully in the next four or five months, maybe he will settle down and things will be fine.”

Per Mertesacker revealed yesterday he has apparently been an Arsenal fan for years. The new Gunners centre half spoke of his delight and relief that the move to the Emirates finally came through:

This affinity has grown over more than 10 years and now the loop closes because I am delighted to finally get to play at a team I always supported and where I always wanted to appear eventually. I think Arsenal had been watching me for a while and had intended to sign me for a while.

It was a strange situation for me because it was not clear for a long time what would happen and it dragged out to the very end. It is a dream come true and it is a very attractive challenge.

Craig Bellamy made all the right noises upon his return to Liverpool. The Welshman spoke of his admiration for Kenny Dalglish and admitted the chance to play under his boyhood idol was just too good to turn down:

“I’ve grown up with Kenny Dalglish, now to be signed by him is a massive honour. To every Liverpool fan, Kenny is probably the best player ever to pull on the red shirt so that speaks for itself.

I am coming into a club not just with Kenny, but with Clarkey [Steve Clarke] and Kevin Keen, people who I have worked with really closely and who know me inside out. I’m coming to a Liverpool where the people here know what I need to do to play in this team.”

Mikel Arteta explained the chance to play on the European stage was just too good an opportunity to turn down. The former Everton midfielder’s move to Arsenal took everyone by surprise but Arteta hopes the Toffees fans remember him with fondness as he heads to the bright lights of the Emirates:

It is a big opportunity for me and my family and I think it is the right time for me to take it. It is a big challenge, a different challenge, fresh for me and I want to see myself on the biggest stage, the Champions League.

I am 29 years old so I haven’t got much time left to take a chance like this one. I think I have done my best for Everton. I always try hard, I have been as professional as I could and I was grateful for the support and the love that the club and the fans showed me.

Peter Crouch spoke of the frustration that forced him to leave Spurs for Stoke. The forward also acknowledged the faith shown in his abilities by Tony Pulis played a large part in his decision to move to the Britannia:

No player wants to sit on the bench. I was happy living where I was living but while sitting on the bench might be good enough for some players, I want to be playing and enjoying my football.

The manager here made it quite clear he was extremely keen on bringing me here and I felt it was the right time for me to move on. I genuinely believe the best is yet to come from me. And I believe that will come with Stoke City now.

As an Everton fan I'm not overly saddened by the departure of Arteta. He's lost his edge in recent seasons. I will always remember him well when he played on the right and used to win a free kick whenever he wanted. He was brilliant at that.

Since moving in field he's just not been the same player. At Everton he was a good player but I just hope that he doesn't get shown up by Ramsey & Wilshere.

Not sure he's the best buy for Arsenal.

    What do you guys think?

Don´t think he was first choice!
Arsenal had bid rejected for multiple "big" players last week.
      M'Vila £22M
      Hazard £28M
      Götze £35M

Maybe they will go for them in January...?!

10m player with premier league experience. It'll be interesting to see how much he improves under Wenger (if any) and how he fairs in the champions league.

I wasn't overly keen on him but he should do a good job for us. It would be interesting to see how far down he was on our list of targets. We failed with bids for Gotze, M'villa and allegedly Hazard. We also failed in a bid to get Gourcuff on loan from Lyon i have no idea why we didn't try to buy him, there is no chance Lyon would let one of their prized assets leave on loan.

I think all of those players would have been better buys, though none as experienced. That's not to say I don't rate Arteta, he's a good player. Given the right system and starts, Benayoun could be the break out star. Gotze is class, but £35m screams panic buy.

Im hoping a move to Arsenal will rejuvenate Arteta. The one thing both him and Benayoun have is ball retention skill and premiership experience so im happy enough with the signings. Was hoping for a marquee signing though. Top 4 will be a struggle.

Are those confirmed fees and bids? If so, Lille and Dortmund were mad to reject those fees. I think only M'vila could fetch higher than what was offered. If Lille are out of the Champions League by January, there will be a huge scramble for Hazard.

The Gotze fee is confirmed. Rennes apparently wanted 30 for M'villa becasue they think they can get that much for him after the Euros.

I would have thought that Dortmund had the foresight to accept that offer and reinvest the money. I suppose due to Sahin's departure though, they're now more reliant on Gotze. M'Vila is class. Not really a Cesc or Nasri replacement though. Song role? Interesting to see how Wenger would have deployed both.

Dortmund wouldn't have had time time find a suitable replacement. That and the fact we play them in the CL soon. Gotze said he wants to stay in Germany for at least another season anyway. I think Song, M'villa and Wilshere would have been our midfield. Wilshere playing the free role. Would have made us stronger defensively.

He doesn't have a point though. He made plenty of appearances for Arsenal and only once, that I remember, looked like he was any good. And that was against a Championship side, Ipswich, in the Carling Cup.

22 goals in 98 appearances isn't a terrible return, but it isn't great either and given that half of those were against Carling Cup or FA Cup or weak European opposition, it's not really good enough to be knocking on the door of an Arsenal starting spot.

So many of those 98 appearances were from the bench, and even when he did come on, he was often played out wide in what clearly isn't his best position.

I'm not disputing that he has had chances though, because he has and by and large he hasn't made the most of them.

FFS, these message boards are unreadable nowadays. Full of absolute tripe “this is my real team” teams and tripe advice.

The IQ of the site has dropped about 50 points. Everyone and their mother knows about the site now an it’s beginning to show.

Mark et al, please seriously consider having a message boards for “funny” off topic posts so we have a board we can actually read, get proper advice and get better at the game. Every second post is full of nothing these days, and you have to crawl through this garbage to get advice.

Worse still, the good posts get little attention.

I agree with what you're saying here without perhaps being so blunt. I feel what was once a tight community is fading as more have become aware of this site. I think this is becoming more and more obvious as many of the old faithfuls seem to be fading away.

I honestly believe it's now near impossible to get a constructive response to a question where as once upon a time you'd be guarenteed a handful of thoughtful responses. Just my two cents.

To be fair, the new site will address a lot of these issues..... you can filter out RMTs and top posters will get awards so you can tell the most valuable posts. You can't really blame Mark or anyone else for having a site that is popular, all he can do is try improve it wherever he can and make sure issues get dealt with

I'm not sure why my answer to this did not appear...is it in moderation? To repeat quickly.

Mark and the team are doing an excellent job. It's just that the % of silly posts and false RMTs have increased dramatically. This means that good posts worth or dozens of answers are going unnoticed which is a shame.

A separate forum that is slightly off topic would allow for proper ff discussion.

and proper ff discussion is why I visit the site. I know alot of people who don't even bother reading the posts this season because it's too much of a headwrecker trying to find posts that are worthy of rading.

Torres and Sessegnon are out from my team. Im thinking RVP is a better pick than Dzeko, both have great fixtures, but I think RVP tips it just because of the less chance of rotation. However it only leaves me 5.5 for a midfielder. So A or B

    A) Arteta and Dzeko
    B) Petrov and RVP

    Which one guys? Thanks

    Looking to move out Yaya.
    Will have 8.7 to spend.

    A: Downing
    B: Dempsey
    C: Arteta

Have no Liverpool, Fulham or Arsenal attacking cover.
I'm away and won't be looking at team for 7 weeks, so kinda wary of Arteta's injury history.

    Cheers.

Aguero4captain, I agree - the sheer number of rmt, which of these three different variations is better and who should i captain/sub is unbelievable. Obviously advice is what this whole website is about but it's not about having every last detail about your team checked, what fun is it if you do well after having every move you make verified on here? Many people on here need to start making decisions for themselves because their guess is probably as good as most peoples on here.

I think he is back to an essential now he is on pens again. 3 Bonus last week for doing very little proves his attacking instincts = gold in the EA PPI. He'll be on majority of free kicks now as well and after the Wayne Rooney + assist from crossing despite defender deflection = Win for Baines as he sends in SO many crosses.

Then again you can look on the flipside of that – If Everton win he is highly likely to get some form of bonus even if he doesn’t score due to the way he plays.

But there are plenty of good options in defence, depends how much you want to bulk up your front 8.

Maybe you could include him for their next couple of games then ditch? At the moment I have just sacked him off completely but that’s because I’m going big elsewhere. Villa created little away at Fulham and home to Wolves, so the fixture is pretty good game for Baines, especially if Bent is an injury worry.

Exactly. Beckford admittedly wasn't the best player ever either but at least he's someone to play there. If the new Argie with the long name is Boselli MK II there won't be enough attacking play to get those penalties let alone goals to justify 8m.

We'll obviusly have to keep for the next two home games now that we have him.

Really hard to separate Adam, Downing, Kuyt and Carroll imo. Adam probably edges it atm for me, as he's settled well and seems to play all the time.

If Carroll had an injury or something I'd be really tempted by Kuyt. Such a good player when he has the freedom to roam up front. Far superior to Andy Carroll.

Carroll will usually start against difficult opposition away from home. Expect Kuyt, Bellamy, Carroll and Suarez to be completely interchangeable. Unpredictability is key. Hopefully Carroll bangs in a goal or two tonight, if he plays. He seems angry and annoyed at himself whenver he plays. His goal v Exeter was certainly hit with anger.

Carroll's price tag terrifies me. I hope it is nowhere near his thoughts when he plays. We have a propensity to hoof when he's on the pitch. He only wants to head it when it's the right moment. Otherwise, he looks to take it down and move it on. Unfortunately, his style jars with that of Suarez. Needs to adapt. Suarez and Carroll can work, as evidenced in last season's dismantling of Man City.

I didn't catch most of the Man City game last season, but from seeing the goals there was no real evidence that Liverpool were destroying City from the Carroll/Suarez partnership. Rather individual excellence from either one of the players. I may be wrong though, as like I said, I didn't actually watch the game....

I'd say that Carroll's style not only jars with Suarez, but with the entire Liverpool side and the football that Dalglish has them playing. Carroll isn't good enough on the ground to play the dynamic football, with the ball moving all over the place at speed, that you guys are playing at the moment.

Anderson is one I'd love to be right on. Will wait at least until after this season before I give in on him. He's had short good spells in previous seasons too before reverting to his usual self.

It seems like sticking with big AC allows for a lot of flexibility amongst the rest of your side, so yes, stick with him. He'll probably start against Stoke, with Suarez/ Bellamy and Kuyt playing deeper.

I've moved over to BFBC as well - shame about the lack of multiplayer options compared to MW2 but the game is far better. Love sniping someone across an entire map for 100 odd bonus points while in MW2 the shaky sight makes it near impossible while a Ump can pick them off accurately...

Midfielders 6.5 or under. Who do people think the best picks are?
Anderson - looks promising, in the goals and assists already obviously plays for a good side but could drop too deep and could get rotated.
Jarvis - scored well so far and has good fixtures but will he continue?
Taarabt - hasn't got any scores on the board so far but still has set plays and could benefit from the increased quality around him.
Brunt - set plays but West Brom to me don't look like scoring many and I think Long/Odem may get more points out of their victories.

    On the bargain range
Dyer - get what you pay for 2-4 points each week probably on the bench but handy to come on.
Barkley - could he be the revelation Everton need? Maybe but he may also play infrequently.
Moses - fixtures toughen up now but still a decent player.

Any other suggestions that are worth a look - Barton? SWP? Drenthe?

You wildcarding then? From memory I'm not sure if the Given/Vorm rotation is too good for the next few weeks. Krul/Vorm works out very well though.. Maybe have Krul and Hutton/Warnock instead of Given and Santon? Works out at the same price either way.

Rest of defence is excellent, and good value for money.

Bold call going for Adebayor over Dzeko, when City have excellent fixtures coming up, and Tottenham don't. Not to mention the form of City and Tottenham... I personally think that it's worth getting Dzeko in spite of the inevitable rotation. Even if he only plays 3/4 of the matches then I still think he's value for money. Or is choosing Adebayor over Dzeko a price issue?

I'd probably actually rather Dzeko over Suarez too. And then you can upgrade Dyer, so you have a very strong forward 8, and even if Dzeko is rested, you'll have a decent player coming off the bench.

Yeah on my wildcard. Quite fancied having Hutton in there too and he's more proven than Santon so that works out quite well.
I just don't know about Dzeko, obviously he's been playing brilliantly the past couple of games but with Tevez and the champions league coming up plus Mancini's love of frustrating fantasy managers I think I'd rather go for certain starters.
Plus I do see Adebayor hitting the ground running plus one of his difficult games is ARS.
                Cheers for the advice.

For all his faults, his goalscoring record isn't at all bad, and with the new bonus system it's all about players who score goals!

The fiso site has incorrect data for NTIs at the moment -p it seemed to get reset yesterday. However you should still be able to check using a combination of FISO and the FPL site.

e.g. Scott Sinclair, fiso has a target NTI of -11544 for him to fall, and they have an incorrect gameweek NTI of -488. But, since his price hasn't changed this gw, you can use the FPL transfers page to work out that his actual gw NTI is: 10211 - 899 = 9312. So he still has a couple of thousand net transfers out to go to reach the fiso estaimte of target NTI.

      Similar for other players.

    Yaya Toure > Arteta
    Sessegnon > Mata

I have Osman aswell, but think he's worth keeping because of Evertons fixtures.
