More bad news for Arsene Wenger as surgery rules Thomas Vermaelen out for two months. A hamstring strain makes Theo Walcott a doubt for England’s game with Wales, while Andrei Arshavin has his say on the Emirates transfers over the summer. Joseph Yobo joins the Everton exodus and heads for old club Fenerbache and Hatim Ben Arfa returns to first-team training for Newcastle. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles:

Only a day after Jack Wilshere was ruled out for a further three months due to an ankle problem, Arsene Wenger has been dealt another bitter injury blow. This morning has brought the news that Thomas Vermaelen had surgery on his left Achilles yesterday and will be out of action for two months. Vermaelen was out for virtually all of last season due to a problem with his right Achilles and Wenger will be hoping the same scenario doesn’t apply here. Per Mertersacker’s presence at the heart of the Gunners back-four will be even more significant in light of this news.

There’s more injury worry for the Arsenal boss- reports indicate Theo Walcott is struggling with a hamstring strain. The winger may be forced out of England’s midweek match with Wales and Fantasy managers will have concerns over this one- he’s looked in great form of late and has Swansea at home this weekend.

Andrei Arshavin has been having his say on the Gunners summer of player exits. The Russian is quoted to have described the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasr as “a catastrophe” and is of the opinion that Arsenal’s style of play is bound to change as a result:

” We have no-one so comfortable with passing the ball to Robin van Persie or who ideally utilises the qualities of the other forwards. With Arteta or whoever replaces those who have left, we will play different football, not as we played with Cesc and Samir.

Arteta and Benayoun have long proved themselves in the Premier League, they’re not bad signings. And we needed strengthening in those positions. Perhaps another holding midfielder wouldn’t hurt and, as far as I know, we were trying till the last minute to get M’Vila, but unfortunately we weren’t able to buy him.

Judging by the quantity and quality of our signings, Arsenal’s football will soon undergo some changes.

Micah Richards has given Roberto Mancini an injury boost ahead of this weekend’s home game with Wigan. The right-back limped out of the England squad with a hamstring twinge but has already started light training back with Man City and reckons he’ll be fit for the match against the Latics:

I felt a bit of tightness in the hamstring and it is not something I want to take any chances with. I missed some games last season with a similar problem and thought it best to be as cautious as possible. I have had the injury looked at and I am confident I will be available for the Wigan game at the weekend.

Everton’s Joseph Yobo has joined former club Fenerbache on a season-long loan. The centre half has been a somewhat peripheral figure in recent times for David Moyes’ side and his move is another step in easing the Toffees crippling debts.

The Sunderland future of Asamoah Gyan continues to look uncertain. Galatasaray failed in a loan-deal attempt before the closure of the Turkish transfer window last night and Marseille have claimed he was offered to them last week. The Ghanaian has been linked with Spurs and admitted yesterday:

“It is normal to be excited when a club such as Tottenham is interested, however I have a contract somewhere and I intend to honour that.”

Hatim Ben Arfa has returned to first-team training with Newcastle. Given the Frenchman’s appalling luck with injuries since his move to St James’ Park last season, Newcastle are unwilling to put a date on his likely comeback and will continue to monitor his progress

Reports suggest Wolves are looking to snap up James McFadden. The player is a free agent after his contract at Birmingham ended and Mick McCarthy is rumoured to be eyeing up the Scot as he looks to provide competition for Matt Jarvis and Stephen Hunt out wide.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Torres dropped and Nasri went up. Gulp! I can afford to make my transfers and have 0.0 left over. Should I do it now? Eeek!

    @ Now back to me:

Still torn between the RVP, Rooney & Dzeko or Suarez, Ade & Dzeko with a much better midfield. Probably the first as it's safer, but the second is tempting me. Decided which way you're going?

Not 100% but i think im going to go for RVP, Rooney and Adebayor. Figured it's best to play it safe at this point. Ade, Dzeko, Suarez gives a better balanced team though agghhh!

It's a tough one alright. Ade, Dzeko & Suarez will all score lots of goals (and are all terrific value), but it's the fear of not having Rooney & RVP that's the killer!

It'll be a Saturday morning decision probably. Depends how brave I'm feeling. 😛

As Mark would say, a quick look through the members stats and Dzeko is matching Rooney for everything, creativity, influence and attempts on goal. Suarez could easily finish with a similar total to RVP. The only thing that is swaying me if the fixtures and captaincy choice.

    Ruddy Sessegnon De Laet Brown

    Current wc team:

    Krul(vorm)

    Bosingwa Enrique Kompany (simpson delaet)

    Jarvis Silva Arteta Brunt (dyer)

    RVP Dzeko Rooney

I’ll save 2 FT untill gameweek 6 and then change

    Brunt > mata and

    Hi CHaps,

This Walcott news has almost tipped me over the edge! Was plannign on not wildcarding but now my team is full of doubts so do you guys think its worth doing?

    Current team:
    Hilario - Ruddy
    Bos - Baines - Warnock - Senderos - Simpson
    Silva - O'Hara - Walcott - Brunt - Moses
    Rooney - Suarez - Graham

    WC team
    Hennessey- Ruddy
    Bos - Kompany - Warnock - Taylor - Simpson
    Silva - Mata - Walcott - Brunt - Dyer
    Rooney - Suarez - Ruiz

    What do we reckon?

Expensive midfield has made your defence and forwards pretty shoddy.

I'd recomend 2 of Young, Nasri, Mata, Arteta and upgrade the rest of your team.

Those midfielders are all around the a similar price so easy to get one in/out when they show form or it becomes clearer which ones are 'essential'.

One of R Taylor or Simpson is not going to play (R Taylor prob be dropped) now that Newcastle have signed Santon so I'd change one of them.

No point having Henderson with the rest of your midfield. Downgrade him to someone cheap and get Suarez, Dzeko or Adebayor instead of Ruiz.

    So, what do you think
    Bosigwa -> Mertesacker, R.Taylor - N.Taylor, Ward -> W.Brown

Guys, I have Lampard + Holt.
Is it worth selling those two to get Brunt + RVP?

Arsenal's fixtures are just too good to ignore. Would you rather take a punt on Arteta who is much cheaper?

Lampard offers exposure to Chelsea's goals but I am sure Mata will soon offer a better/cheaper alternative.

    So Option 1 is:
    Lamp + Holt => Brunt + RVP
+ Get RVP who is on pens and is a captain option going forward
-Weaken my MF a lot with 3 big hitters upfront (rooney/suarez/RVP)

    Option 2 is:
    N'Zogbia + W Brown => Arteta + DEF less or equal 4.4
    + Keep Lampard
+ Get cheap efficient exposure to Arsenal with Arteta
    - no real good def below 4.5 that I want to have (except simpson I already have)

    ONE OR TWO?

Dzeko has gone from 8.5 to 8.8. Will he rise again? I can't remember when a player rose that much between gameweeks.

Brunt and Cabaye are both on set pieces and have a nice run of fixtures, they can be easily swapped for the likes of hunt, sinclaire etc once they start showing ofrm. silva and walcott are both good for the money and again they are easily replaceable for the money they cost.

Tough one, Mata still needs to prove himself. Look at aguero, scored twice off the bench then did nothing for 90 mins the next game. Mata could do the same. Think he needs to be monitored for over the next few weeks before you make that decision.

B then, man utd cover isn't as essential as everyone is harping on about. They face sterner defences in the next 6 gws and won't be dicking teams 8-2 every week.

    Vrom / Krul
Bosingwa / Micah Richards / Wes Brown / Simpson / Enrique
    Silva / Young / Jarvis / Brunt / Moses

i'm not a big fan of walcott (fpl wise)... specially with the news today... and I think Man U are in great form and are showing everyone there are no tough games for them this year rooney and young will deliever some points. I rather have a someone from liverpool instead of walcott, but I cannot afford suarez with this midfield :S

            Silva / honolohan / Jarvis / Brunt / Moses
