The final week of the August transfer window gave new QPR owner Tony Fernandes plenty chance to splash the cash and he didn’t fail to disappoint. There’s no doubt Neil Warnock’s side have strengthened substantially over the last couple of weeks and last season’s Championship winners will approach an upcoming kind run of games with renewed confidence.

Despite the acquisition of Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips, it’s Adel Taarabt who blinks loudest on our Fantasy radars and as a result, the Moroccan ranks high on the Watchlist. He may have returned just 9 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points so far this season, but Taarabt has been a threat throughout and is a little unlucky not to have picked up more substantial hauls. He’s had more goal attempts than any QPR player- his tally is just one shot less than David Silva- and has also hit the woodwork as well as creating the same number of goal scoring opportunities as the likes of Charlie Adam.

The clincher here is his set-piece duties; Barton’s arrival will give Warnock’s side a quality corner kick taker but Taarabt -priced at 6.5 in FPL- still looks nailed-on for direct free-kicks and penalties and looks likely to offer a greater attacking potential than any of his team mates.

QPR may have scored just one goal so far this campaign but the increase in quality arrivals should make them a different proposition altogether. If Warnock’s new-look side are to beat the drop, they will need to replicate the sort of form that saw them make Loftus Road something of a fortress last season. With four home games in the next six-(NEW, wol, AVL, ful, BLA, CHE)- Fernandes will be hoping his August investment is about to prove dividend.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    How do you rate this?

    Vorn/Krul
    Boswinga/Ward/De Laet/Brown/Simpson
    Nasri/Arteta/Cahill/Petrov/Dyer
    Rooney/Dzeko/RVP

weak in defense, Cahill not exactly on fire, Nasri injury doubt

How? You look at the players and then judge them according to form, fixtures, and rotations.

In my view, Arteta can be downgraded to accomadate a stronger defence. Also Cahill can go.

If your front 3 don't fire, then you'll be in trouble.
Vorm & Krul both away from home.

Fair point but for this week, Vorm at Arsenal & Krul at QPR, won't bet on any clean sheet points there.

No one likes making keeper transfers so it makes sense to put them in for the future while you're on the WC. I'll be playing Krul at QPR.

Ignoring the differences in price and fitness concerns, who would you rather have for the next 2-3 weeks...

    Baines, Young & Bent

    OR

    5M def, Walcott & Rooney

I keep changing my mind on this one so any rational advice would be welcome!

      The second one.

There are a lot of good options for your 5m def, which I think can match Baines.

Rooney and Young should score similarly with Rooney edging it.

Finally Walcott could get some big returns, which I don't see from Bent - over the season I'd go the other way on this one - which would see me choose the first one as a season pick.

        Thanks gents,

Any suggestions for a defender under 5.3M for the next 2 weeks?

At the moment Im looking at having Bardsley, playing him week 5, and then transferring to Enrique.

      the second option.

      Non-price/fitness reasons:

If you separate the midfield/striker option I think Walcott+Rooney will outscore Young+Bent over the next 3gws.

5m defender over Baines as Everton have difficult games after 2 weeks which means you'll use a transfer getting him out.

      Price/fitness:
      Obviously second option.

It seems to me that the tactic for CL is to pick your 5 defenders in a 3/2 split (probably go for one sure thing and split the others 2/2)

Then you play the 2 that are up on the Tuesday. If you don't get CS's sub them out for the others, otherwise just keep those that did well. Or am I reading the rules wrong?

Not Hennessy since he doesn't rotate well with Vorm. Kenny would be a better bet, or Krul.

And do yes, because having Ferguson is a pointless exercise.

Ok, I would not really be happy with Ferguson in my squad either. However, it's hard to find a good 4.5m midfield option beyond Nathan Dyer (who I already have).

Jarvis has an injury cloud, so I'd watch that.

      Pretty standard otherwise.

Interesting the Given/Begovic perfect keeper combo. Not sure if its a master stroke or overkill. It should get you good points, so on that basis its good, but how much more than the Given/Vorm combo is the question and is it worth the extra 1.0.

It all depends on who your other Keeper is.

I'm going to guess Vorm, and hence say go for Kenny/Brunt, although I'd be tempted by Kenny/Petrov with an extra 0.5

Petrov is the 7th highest scoring mid, and did it through poor fixtures, 4 more GWs of crap fixtures to go and he'll be deadly after that.

        Not so sure about that.

The standard here gave us a standard team for GW1 of:

        Given/Ruddy
Kompany/Cole/ then some dross, usually included Gabbidon, Simpson and de Laet also Bardsley/Brown
Silva/N'Zogbia/Malouda/Moses/Taarabt - also some punts on Ramsey, Sinclair
Bent/Drogba (or Torres, but we all though Drogba would start)/Carroll (since Suarez was tired)

Pretty hit and miss if you ask me.

As you progress through the season, 4 point hits become less worth it.

You can be ok with them now, as you'll have more gameweeks to realise the value from the sub (assuming you make good value picks). Also to avoid price changes, now is more relevant than later on.

Points hits at this point in the season are ok if you are confident your transfer in will score 4+ points above your transfer out - and that is a lot easier if the transfer out isn't playing.

I didnt realise he was oout of contract in the summer, you've got to hope the same offer comes in again in januray, that way you'l have had his services for 6 months. I see he's already found the net in a home win (i think) I hope you jumped on the wincast.

After the first day of the season I thought we were onto a shocker, but now Im not so sure, I think celtics potential involvement in europe could be benificial to rangers. I think it will be extremely tight, but I think rangers will win it, thats with my head and my heart.

maynard got 2 in a shock win at leicester, i had 10 on the wincast at 10/1, not done much else tho as our forms been pretty erratic so a nightmare for punting altho teh first 3 games i made a few quid backing over 2.5 goals in each game
