We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You should be happy about it. Think about how many times you can bash Beckham if he's back in the premier league. At least you'd have some excuse for it.

It may just be the nail in the coffin of my love of football.

Its becoming invested by the marketing men. Losing its fun.

And the masses lap it up like docile dogs willing to obey everything.

Does anyone think anymore of whats going on - why is nobody ridiculing this chairmain or Beckham for this nonsense?

No because its too hard to have any moral fibre and do ones h job for that might affect those important sales.

    Major captaincy fails so far this year;

    GW1 Van Persie{new) 2Pts
    GW2 Torres(WBA) 1Pt
    GW3 Torres(NOR) 1pt
    GW4 Dzeko(WIG) was captain didn't play Van Persie(SWA) 2Pts

6 points from four captains game weeks has to be a record for me, completely abysmal start compounded by the fact Dzeko didn't play. 🙁

Dzeko and Van Persie btw were both better odds to score than Rooney in some of the bookmakers I checked. Same goes for Torres in one or two of his game weeks he was favourite overall to score. Complete disaster, captain choices are so crucial this year, miles behind already.

I think you may be right, three set peice goals though against Arsenal was highly unlikely however. Although because of his recent form a couple of goals against Bolton was always likely so kudos to those who picked him. I'm just gutted Dzeko didn't play when City had so many chances and he's been in great form, but such is the luck in this game sometimes.

    3 weeks ago i wondered:
    A) torres (NOR) and RVP (c) (SWA)
    or
    B) rooney (ARS) and rooney (c) (bol)

B won by 51 points, sickening. made a lot of fpl mistakes in the past but never that demoralising. 51 points ffs!

Bolton are usually tougher at home, I didn't fancy Arsenal for a cricket score against Swansea. You made the sensible choices imo, but because Arsenal were so blighted by injury there was a chance Rooney could nick a few goals, nobody seen 8-2 coming though!

The scores have to start reflecting the odds sooner of later.

should have trusted rooney (had him first 2 games and he scored for me both times). in hindsight they were mistakes (the torres one more so) and i'm not claiming they weren't, my point is to be punished by 51 points for 2 choices. that's hard to stomach. noramlly a f*** up hits you by about 5-10 points

It sucks, as I've said a couple of times today, I posted on here after Kos got injured that Rooney was the man to go for against Arsenal given the team they would put out, yet I slowly talked myself out of it and went for Suarez instead.

Annoying! I'm already thinking RVP (C) this week even though I think Rooney will score.

Interesting goings on at Sunderland. After their draw at Anfield merely a few weeks ago, their fans thought Europe was on the cards.

Fast forward a couple of fickle football games later, with another away point and and a narrow defeat to Chelsea, there is a belief that Sunderland are now in a relegation battle and Bruce will be sacked.

Add to Gyan's sudden disappearance and there is something afoot behind-the-scenes on Wearside. I have also heard that Wickham is being constantly berated by Bruce during training and res games.

Mankini won't nail Micah Richards to RB and leave reliable Zab to squabble over LB.

That Tevez didn't take his ugly, money grabbing self away to Corinth so that Aguero and Dzeko could play football 90mins and possibly have penalties.

but he didn't do anything? he's just run the length of the pitch so was on the bye-line catching his breath, rooney then runs over to him and as the scorer is followed by the rest of the team. then jones basically just stands there and smiles as he's happy they've just scored while his team mates do stuff like ruffle his hair. seriously how is that arrogance? the opposite if anything

Football is a sport , a pastime , fun for people,

I watch it and play it for the above.

So yes its out of measure with its importance in the grand scheme of things

Just cos its not in fashion doesnt mean its not based in reality or a moan.

Jones has nothing to be arrogant about. He is playing a pastime where if he were born 50 years ago he would be getting the same as the modern man

His job hasnt changed in that time but the ability to send it to a bigger market has.

How would you not define a 19 year old footballer as not ignorant?

I think that in order to make it as a footballer these days you have to have a lot of confidence in yourself which i think he has, i don't think that he's "Terry Mark 2" as he hasn't done anything as retarded as Terry as (yet) and he doesn't have THAT level of arrogance.
The world's best players are all arrogant and thats just a fact because if you knew you were one of the biggest celebrities in the world you would inevitably be a bit arrogant. (With a few exceptions obviously)

I think he's just a very talented 19 year old footballer on his way to becoming a massive celebrity and he's aware of that fact. I don't see the crime.

most frustrating part of the gameweek is peeps in my mini league go and buy a player i already have in dzeko which should be good for me, yet they all profit from it because they had rooney VC. that's seriously rubbing it in

Not really, I mean City tore Wigan apart and had Dzeko played 70 or 80 minutes he could have easily bagged a brace. And that's exactly what the VC element is for surely, they made the decision to VC Rooney in the unlikely event that Dzeko wouldn't play.

Need to get rid of Alex for the next three weeks.

So do I go Hutton/Warnock, Taylor(Swansea)(already have Vorm), Brown, Bosingwa, or someone different under 6?

    Defense is:
    Begovic, Vorm
Alex, S Taylor, Enrique, De Laet, Baines

    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Murray out of US Open. Same old story with the whining and wincing when things don't go his way. If it's not his sweat band bothering him then it's some mysterious injury that's bothering him. Murray could win against the likes of Nadal and Djoko but he really needs to sort his head out. Loses focus way too easily and fixates on imaginary problems that he should just get over and concentrate on winning the next point. So frustrating watching a guy with so much talent throwing it away so needlessly.

Even when he plays well he's hard to watch. All that moaning and frowning and the faces he pulls, as well as British commentators with their man-crushes for the British player, creepily using every superlative they know to describe him. Yea I just mute the telly 🙂

I just don't think he's as good as Nadal or Djokovic. No shame in that.

He's the fourth best player in the world in his sport. That would made him Andres Iniesta. There's certainly no shame in being Andres Iniesta.

Very good post for the most part, don't agree that he 'could win against the likes of Nadal and Djokovic' though. Obviously in a one off game, but he's not good enough to consistently beat them, they're just on another level, one I can't see Andy ever reaching.

That's the biggest issue. Even if he had beaten Nadal tonight, he would have have to keep up that level of play for potentially another 5 sets against Djokovic.

I think I need to sell sinclair before the price drop. (despite the WBA home game) any tips? I have 3m in the bank.

    GW5:
    Schwarzer
    Kompany Bosingwa Ward
    Young Sinclair Eagles Hoolahan
    Rooney Aguero (C) Dzeko

    Subs:
    Vorm
    W Brown
    D Simpson
    V Moses

Arteta seems the best bet for a price rise/decent fixtures, but even as an arsenal fan I dont think I can have any in the team atm.

Yeah I had kompany/richards/aguerro. Dzeko smashed in 4 so i had to sign him for the price rise, so i sold richards. I didnt want to sell aguerro because I feared exactly what happened would happen. (though tbh it wouldnt have been too bad as id have chosen rooney as my VC if I didnt have aguerro).

agreed. honestly I think both will start and play most games with Tevez used as a sub unless they get rested for the CL (which they might rotate resting). both are playing much better than Tevez (who may I add has now missed a penalty for argentina vs uruguay and a penalty for city against wigan)and Balotelli has probably lost himself any chance for playing time with his terrible decision to backheel

              haha, dont worry. only messing.

I was just happy to get 5 replies, then i noticed none of them actually addressed the issue of what to replace sinclair with.

I dont want both city forwards long term, but with dzeko a potential bargain with 0.2m lost if I sell and repurchase, and aguerro having just smashed in a hat-trick I cant really sell either of them just yet. Hopefully one of them 2 and tevez will get injured soon.

              so...sinclair...?
