We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not that easy to just 'take both' lad. Points hits ain't what i need right now so have to be quite calculating. Hernandez is easier to fit in for me, but...well its like if i went out on a date with the little pea, it would he good but I'd he thinking of Rooney. :p

Small tip to all, particularly myself.

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE'S ADVICE, GO WITH YOUR OWN FEELING OR YOU SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING THE GAME

Like a fool I did and transfered out Aguero to RVP and instead of captaining Rooney as I always had done I captained RVP...

Dropped from 1st in my league on 217 points to 5th on 257 points..

No one's fault except my own.. but I recommend you don't be a sheep like I was last week

    i.e go for

    Dong-Won Ji
    Meireles
    Defoe
    Adebayor
    Arshavin
    Osman

    etc etc..

Just because a striker doesn't score one week doesn't mean the following game he wont get a hatrick.. prime example Aguero.. Next week it will be Saurez who scores.. stop jumping on bandwagons

People bemoaning the lack of returns from their expensive Arsenal and Chelsea players; this isn't new. It's been happening for months! RVP the exception.

Chelsea have had no prospects since beating Arsenal early October and Arsenal themselves capitulated post-CC. We all love fixtures but everything has to be taken into account.

I can understand why people would get rid of Baines with Arteta there, but with Arteta gone, two great fixtures, playing on form as a left winger, very few big hitters worth it in MF and him monopolising their set pieces?

Ludicrous. Even with Arteta there he's still worth 8.

I cann understand that people ate frustrated because they feel the site has become saturated.

But the popularity of FFS has come from getting advice and discussion (as mentioned below) and it would he to everyone's detriment if the site lost people.

I really liked the systems that the beta test of the site had, not really heard much since. Is it still in development from the beta feedback.

The filters won't be live with the new layout straight away Im afraid. Our tests showed that some of the new features put a lot of strain on our servers so we will be rolling out the new layout without them and dropping them in after more optimisation.

The new layout does have the ability to hide all replies though so folk can just not choose to open up comments asking for help - it's far easier to browse comments and hide/show the conversations you want to get involved in.

difficult to say, mata is looking tasty but you know fat frank can come up with the big scores at any time. the extra 2.5 might sway it for me in that position and like you say better to be on a riser than someone who is falling pricewise

Any help massively appriciated here lads.

    Team at present...
    Given - Vorm
    Simpson - Enrique - Kompany - Alcaraz - Senderos
    Moses - O'Hara - Young - N'Zogbia - Surman
Suarez - van Persie - Rooney

And I'm thinking about playing my wildcard to make it something akin to this...
    Given - Vorm
    S. Taylor - Enrique - Kompany - Shorey - Ward
    Moses - O'Hara - Young - Silva - Cabaye
Best (possibly Long) - Aguero - Rooney.

Should I wildcard or not? Once again, any help massively appriciated!

Think he's been quiet unlucky to be honest mate. It's not a given btw, I've just quickly had a splurge on it this morning and had a look what I could potentially buy. The finer details needs sorted (IE. Best or someone else, and any other smaller players could be altered). What you think?

Moses is still a bargain. Barkley was benched yesterday.

Zog Surman Senderos Alcaraz need to go but I would prioritise the first two via piecemeal transfers - not a WC. Get some City coverage in MF and you're sorted.

Was also looking at doing that buddy, possibly 4 point hits along the way. I'm not so sure, it would seem to take an awful long time to be able to wield Silva into my midfield that way. Obviously I'd like to keep my WC, but the way my first four weeks have gone, I'm that pissed off to just chuck it in. Only Rooney has scored for me this season - outrage!

Don't do it. You have 2 strikers in great form (Suarez will be scoring very soon) and 1 with great fixtures. I think you should look to transfer Alcaraz, Senderos, N'Zog and Surman out but these can be done over a few weeks. Maybe look to swap Young for Silva at some point to get City coverage.

You are relying on Baines getting assists and goals as I cant see Everton keeping too many clean sheets. I have Distin 😕

I brought 2 Arsenal players in this week and they didnt do too much RVP (C) 🙁

But I am hoping with all the suspended Arsenal players returning next week they should start to score some goals as their fixtures are pretty appealing.

You rely on all players to either get assists or goals, Baines is no different and he already shown in the last 3 games that he will bring in the points

In the first game, he was literally inches away from getting a goal and 2 assists (if Cahill could finish like he usually does)

Email everton a week or so back, they have no date and said just to keep watching their site. I think there has to be two weeks notice, but with spurs in europe dates are limited. Plenty of notice when it does happen though.

It struggled last season. Chelsea and Arsenal aren't the forces and goalscoring machines they once were. Pool are unpredictable. Spurs are still struggling for goals. City are a rotation minefield and have unexpectedly had a tactical transplant. Rooney also in complete contrast to a year ago.

    wildcard for me 🙁

i'm going with the strategy of having rooney, aguero, a young and silva/nasri, and a man city defender in my team and then basically picking anyone else I can fit into the team.

That way I can just captain one of those each week and get a mega score.

It's unfortunate that I have to resort to this but it's working for everyone else in my league so not to be left behind I am going with it

so basically u will have a team similar to everyone in front of you, and ull stay behind them since everytime u score they will too.
and their team will be more valuable as they benefited form the price rises.

        captain choices are essential.

From those 4-5 players I will try to make the correct captain choice. If it's the same some gameweeks then so be it, but I will bide my time to make a captain choice which will be different from the others where for instance they go with aguero and I go with rooney!!!

Can't get over the fact I didn't make room for Rooney in my team while on WC. I was sitting there yesterday morning reading the paper. It said Dzeko wouldn't start and I was unsure about him but I didn't want to lose a big hitter in midfield to get Rooney for Dzeko. Am on 30 points with only Krul and S Taylor to play.

It's the risk you take with players like that... they have a huge potential for point scoring but they're not 100% to start due to rotation.

Suppose you could say the same about Nani, Young, Berba, Walcott, VDV (with his constant 'doubtful' status)

Picking my team for next week will be tough. I know it's early with 3 games still to play but i'd appreciate any advice before all the RMTs flood the servers.

    Vorm(WBA-H) | Krul(AVL-A)
    Brown(STO-H) Ward(QPR-H) Santon(AVL-A) | Bos(MUN-A) Woodgate(SUN-A)
    Walcott(BLA-A) Nasri(FUL-A) Brunt(SWA-A) Young(CHE-H) | Dyer(WBA-H)
    Dzeko(FUL-A) Rooney(CHE-H)(c) Adebayor(LIV-H)

I'm confident in adebayor for next week, not sure whether to bring in dyer for WBA. And i have no idea whether woodgate will play or not! Sorry if this annoys anyone!

Anybody else really starting to enjoy this seasons fpl?

Yes there has been problems at the start but now we are all starting to get a clearer picture of how things are panning out.

There now begins to be so many good options from many teams and I for one am delighted and those problems seem to be a distant memory.

I believe we will now start to see the really good managers come to the front and leave your average punter behind.

    Roll on next week.
