We know now.

Roberto Mancini was the picture of innocence in his pre-match press interrogation. We suspected that he was due to pull Carlos Tevez from his exquisitely tailored sleeve for the home meet with Wigan. Hands up though, having pocketed the air miles and soaked up several in-flight movies, we were amongst those who pictured Sergio Aguero making way – like for like – it made sense. How wrong, how very wrong.

There was always mild concern, a twinge of doubt, that Edin Dzeko could be sacrificed following two Bosnian outings. Surely not though – surely the four goal blast at White Hart Lane had rendered Dzeko bomb proof?

Butter wouldn’t melt, Mancini appeared to scoff at the idea of changing a winning team in preparation for Wednesday’s date in Naples. Samir Nasri was fine – his troublesome hand injury wouldn’t keep him out. And yet, the Frenchman was preserved temporarily on the bench. More significantly, Mancini opted to hand him the potent Dzeko for company. The six-goal striker was left to shuffle uncomfortably while Aguero expertly stroked home City’s opener via the mesmeric David Silva. A hat-trick followed for the Argentine hitman, memories of Dezko’s White Hart Lane brilliance dissolved goal by goal.

There was of course mixed emotions in the Fantasy community. The despair of those who eagerly boarded the Bosnian’s bandwagon, matched only by the gleeful satisfaction of those who spurned the hot ticket. Fantasy Premier League Wildcards will have been fluttered to ride the wave of Dzeko’s rising stock but now, with rest and rotation already rearing it’s head, we’re left questioning the merits of Dzeko’s selection.

Mancini’s decision confirms that he is far from untouchable – regardless of form and performances on the pitch. City’s fluidity and goal power without him also demonstrates that Mancini can afford to tinker with the rich talent at his disposal and get results.

Four games in the next eleven days is indicative of City’s schedule and Fantasy investors are set to be left dreading the arrival of Mancini’s teamsheet for much of the season. Presumably we’ll see Dzeko take the field against Napoli on Wednesday; does that endanger his start at Fulham next Sunday? Gameweek six looks even more uncertain – Everton at home, Bayern Munich three days later. Where does Mancini shift Dzeko to fit into that puzzle?

His owners will be left asking the question week after week; can he deliver regularly enough to warrant such a level of anxiety?

Suddenly the dull security offered by the likes of Darren Bent looks attractive – an unglamorous ex, but while an unreliable Dzeko can gave us fireworks, Bent will never stand us up. Perhaps penny pinching up front is futile – Luis Suarez aside, perhaps we have to spend big to win big with our forwards?

So many questions remain, in truth we know very little from today’s events – the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. We suspected as much from Mancini – now we know for sure. Dzeko is at the mercy of the Italian’s tactical whims. He’s not the only one – it remains to be seen how many Fantasy managers are willing to play along.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is it now fair to say that Aguero will play the VAST majority of games for Man City? He seems to be coming out of this as the one 'undroppable' in the forward line so far....

There's merit sometimes to leaving your team precisely as it was the week before - OK Torres would have netted me 1 point, but I wouldn't have transferred out Baines for Ward to fund the purchase of RVP for a 4 point hit. Frustrating game aint it?

I think I moaned about him before and you were the one who commented that he was 'Fantasy Gold' or something like that. Felt Villa would get something today and I couldn't see Everton scoring. I also thought Ward was a decent replacement.

Everton's fixtures stiffen significantly from gw 6 - he is pricey enough and penalties may be the mainstay of his points - perhaps short-term pain, long-term gain as I can downgrade Bent at some point and get another big hitter in midfield.

No changes next week for me - 3 Swans players in for starters...

lol yeah that might have been me. Of course the penalties are a nice bonus but from all the reports i heard he was everywhere today and a regular in the opposition penalty area.

There is no doubt Everton's figures take a big turn for the worst soon but there is no way i could ignore those 2 juicy home games.

According to the rules its an assist. They have no wording to say that its not an assist if the opposition has full control of the ball.

Personally I dont think it should be, nor Rooneys last week, but if they want to be consistant it is.

Yeah I have those in at the moment, I might play Enrique ahead of either Brunt or Barkley.

Yeah you definitely should play four at the back sometimes with a defence that strong. With Barkley not starting that'd seem the logical option.

Wasn't going to captain Rooney and can easily get him back so him and Enrique > Baines and Hernandez has worked out positively in the short term.

On the negative side, captaining RVP was a mistake. New rule; only captain City or United players.

No excuses not to cash in on points this gw. The smell of overconfidence in rvp in the week's discussions was over powering, to quote an earlier post of mine "he scored a cheap consolation at man u and 4 against a school boy team. Arsenal will score 1 maybe 2 max and rvp only has a 60% chance of being involved in them".
Rooney was always the choice for captain, huge score last gw, looked good in the internationals & playing a team who concede for fun.
There were big signs for dzeko being dropped too, not least his absence from the guardian squad list.
Really enjoyed this "I knew it and told you" post

Fair play man. I still think Dzeko is great value however I am surprised Aguero and Tevez played together, makes Aguero's prospects look a lot brighter and I'm gonna have to get him in ASAP now.

They saved Dzeko this weekend. It will not be like this most weekends. Dzeko will play up front.

Baines is ideal FPL gold. Always does well when people least expect, get rid, in a low scoring gameweek etc. Such is his price people find it difficult to get him in without a team re-jig.

          now now, be fair.

If they're in the business of awarding assists that obviously aren't assists, then they should be consistent with it.

Walcott played quite well mate, don't worry. I reckon he'll get a bonus point or two! Ashravin will probably get three. This is by far the hardest season yet, mainly because of Man City and their annoying rotation.
