Neil Warnock needs a leader and makes Joey Barton the new QPR captain. Kevin Davies apologises to Tom Cleverley after a wayward tackle at the Reebok sidelined the Man United youngster. Andre Villas-Boas looks to ring the changes in Europe tonight, while an annoyed Rafael Van der Vaart expects to be ready for the weekend game with Liverpool. Here’s a few Scribbles this morning, folks:

QPR’s goalless draw at home to Newcastle last night saw Neil Warnock surprisingly hand the captain’s armband to Joey Barton, with previous skipper Adel Taarabt relinquishing duties. Warnock explained the reasoning behind the move:

“It was just a logical thing really. I had a chat with Adel last week. Adel was straight away right about it. He appreciates how far we have come now and that we need to drive on now. We need somebody as our leader.

Kevin Davies has apologised to Tom Cleverley for the tackle that has sidelined the Man United youngster for the next few weeks. Rumours circulated the internet that Cleverley had criticised the Trotters forward via Facebook after the challenge but Davies clarified the matter, revealing the pair have already spoken:

I didn’t realise after the game, so I put a call in to him and he was fine. I am pleased that there is no serious damage for him. By all accounts he had a fake [profile] saying I didn’t offer an apology. That’s why I got his number and put the call in. I actually texted him and he rang me back and said he had seen the tackle and didn’t think it was that bad.

Andre Villas-Boas admits he will have Sunday’s game at Man United when considering his Chelsea starting XI this evening. The Blues face Bayern Leverkusen and Ramires is suspended and while Didier Drogba continues to recover from concussion, Villas-Boas needs to decide whether to recall Fernando Torres or leave the out-of-sorts Spaniard on the bench:

You’ll see some changes. Then we’ll make wise decisions for Sunday.

Rafael Van der Vaart is not too happy with Harry Redknapp. The Dutchman has been left out of Spurs’ squad for the Europa League group stages and insists Redknapp’s decision came without any sort of warning . In a section under the headline “annoying” on his personal website Van der Vaart wrote:

I still think it’s a peculiar situation. Spurs could at least have consulted me. Anyway it’s up to the point of no return.

Van der Vaart also confirmed he expects to be available for this weekend’s match with Liverpool after intensive treatment on his problem hamstring.

Redknapp was dealt a bitter blow yesterday with the news that Michael Dawson is expected to be sidelined for two months with an Achilles injury picked up in training. Having released Jonathan Woodgate in the summer, the Spurs boss will be more reliant than ever on Ledley King right now; with William Gallas also injured, King and Younes Kaboul struck up a solid partnership in central defence last weekend in the 2-0 win at Wolves.

Liverpool look to be without Glen Johnson for at least another month. The right-back appeared late on in the game at Stoke but suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has already plagued his start to the season. Kenny Dalglish faces a selection dilemma ahead of his side’s trip to Tottenham- Martin Kelly is also injured, leaving John Flanagan or Martin Skrtel as an option.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

          my thinking is,

It took them less than a month to build the lead they have, you have around 8 months to claim that lead back.

A few good captaincy decisions, dgw's, cancellations of games, injuries etc will all play a part.

Sure I am 100 pts behind the leader in my mini league, I got an embarassing 30pts this week and have wildcarded. I made the decision to act before I fall further behind.

The fact is you have plenty of time, make the right decisions now and learn from your mistakes you made in the first couple of gameweeks. I believe if you do then you will be in a good position come the end of the season.

I wouldn't worry about it now, plenty of time. I've just gone from 90,000th or something in the world to 345,000th..and I'm still a comparitvely low 113 pts from the leader of the whole world. I reckon I could catch up with him so you should be able to catch up now whatever the score.

Definitely scraping the barrel here. Basically made a bet with rival that I would be ahead of him all season as he knows naff all about footy and I cuffed him last season by over 200 points. His 2 Simpson bps have propelled him above me.... is there ANY chance Walcott's phantom assist will get added?!

his yellow card was when he had his shot on target, but no one seems to have recorded it. my eyes must be deceiving me. thought he was going to head the ball back across goal but he headed it at goal into kenny's arms. then kenny ran out to with the ball in his hands ready to kick it but taylor brought him down and got a yellow.
espn reckon taylor did a foul just before that foul too. i sear it didn't happen. will just have to trust that it's me seeing wrong, or just not hearing the whistle

A gives you secure points from Rooney & Ronaldo + 2 good captaincy options. Witsel and Song may pick up some and are likely to get their game.

Sneijder & Ozil will pick up points, I'd imagine R&R will pick up plenty more though. Hernandez may not even play and Sturridge is a small fish in a big pond with respect to CL.

      So A

I'm about 80 points behind in my mini-league because I don't have Rooney and the rest of the league does and captained him.

Should I bite the bullet and bring him in now (replacing Torres!) for the season? Would require -4 points for Smalling -> De Laet.

Thought about Hernandez but he's a slight rotation risk with Wellbeck or 4-4-1 with Rooney on his own.

    Team would be:

    Vorm (Ruddy)
Bosingwa, Enrique, Kompany, Simpson (De Laet)
    Young, Silva, Moses (Hoolahan, Tiote)
    Suarez, Rooney, Bent

Would then swap Hoolahan for Walters next GW...

Yeah defo get Rooney for Torres. I would say downgrade one of your mids but you only really have 2 decent mids. SMalling to De Laet looks like your best transfer alright. You need a bit of cash to fix those mids !

Replace Torres with anyone, just get rid of him! I missed out big time in not having Rooney. I would have lost out even more if I hadn't brought him in for last weekend. Just do it and try and make up the points elsewhere. I can't see him drawing a blank any time soon.

It seems silly to bring in Rooney right now, fixtures are very tough and he obviously wont keep scoring the way he is. Saying that, why do you still have torres? Id consider torres to aguero if possible.

Me too. They're both capable of great football. Interested to see Goetze and the Dortmund CBs against PL opposition.

I thought the defending was much harder that it was on Fifa 11, but that could just be getting used to it.

Harder to defend or to break down the opposition? Hopefully the latter. 11 was way too easy to score even on the highest settings against the best teams. Too easy all round.

Annoying FPL screw up #156: On the transfers page, you still can't sort players by form.

Cant see who to captain this week. Rivals will go Rooney. Though i need to take a gamble to catch up.

    RVP? Dzeko?

Barca, Chelsea, Basle (without shiquiri), Man U, Real Inter, Man C, Bayern looks a decent bet I kno the odds wont be too favourable, but im thnking of a couple of quid on it.

On will hill City are at 4/11 and Napoli 8/1. Bookies definitely favour City it seems.

            Really? :/

I think Napoli will give them a game. not worth it at 4/11 imo.

Asian Handicap eh? Check you out!

Seems a decent price on Fabregas anytime. What you reckon on Barca to win to nil? About 2.3ish

Not a bad shout with Ibra and Robinho both injured. Milan weren't particularly impressive at the weekend against Lazio, reckon Barcelona will crush 'em.

Yes, although I'd wait a few weeks. Bolton have a couple of tough fixtures after this week. if he holds down a place at £4m he is definitely worth considering.
