Our Watchlist rankings, offering a view on mid-term Fantasy picks, have been updated for the forthcoming run of fixtures. You can now view these by each position using the tabbed tables in the sidebar on your homepage.

Read on for our summary of the significant moves in our rankings – complete with discussion on the some of the major prospects on offer.

Ben Foster’s clean sheet at Norwich, coupled with a run of fixtures that sets him up nicely for further returns in the coming weeks, has him climb to the top of our goalkeeper rankings. In truth, there’s little between the top keeper choices available right now, with Joe Hart and Wojech Szczesny available as strong options with those with cash to invest, while Asmir Bergovic, Tim Krul and Shay Given all offer low-to-mid price bracket.

Vincent Kompany’s imperious form and City’s forthcoming home matches has him at the top of our defender rankings, ousting Chelsea’s Jose Boswinga. Kompany looks to offer the greater security within Roberto Mancini’s back line and continues to attract Fantasy Premier League bonus to supplement his returns.

Stoke’s resolute defensive performances have brought three clean sheets in four and, with strong fixtures to come, Robert Huth enjoys a big climb in our rankings. There are cheaper options in the Potters’ back four – notably Ryan Shawcross, although there’s uncertainty surrounding Matt Upson and Jonathan Woodgate who could be set to rotate in the coming weeks. Huth looks a more certain starter and, as last season demonstrated, he brings a significant goal threat which, to this point, has yet to materialise but will surely return as a factor soon.

Everton’s Leighton Baines has a strong fixture in the forthcoming Gameweek but will be stretched in fixtures to follow – his Fantasy owners will likely need to rely on attacking returns to justify his weighty price tag. It’s a drop for Baines, then, with mid-price offerings Steve Taylor, Roger Johnson (with Stephen Ward a strong alternative) nipping above the Everton man with decent fixtures to come. West Brom’s Jonas Olsson and Villa’s Alan Hutton offer value further down our rankings.

David Silva’s sparkling form at the point of City’s midfield keeps him out in front in our midfield rankings. Arseanal’s Theo Walcott is some way behind in second, boosted by strong fixtures which really should bring returns in the coming weeks. Chelsea’s Juan Mata is hovering with intent, however – a trip to Old Trafford this weekend reduces his short-term potential but, following this, we’d expect to see the Spaniard threaten his compatriot at the top of our Watchlist.

The Nani vs Ashley Young debate continues – Young took the early rounds but Nani’s consistency has been strong and, despite not yet offering an explosive return, we’re still backing him to deliver despite impending competition from a fit again Antonio Valencia. This remains an interesting scenario and one that needs monitoring.

Rafael Van der Vaart represents another poser – he’s declared himself fit for the visit of Liverpool to the Lane this weekend but, having seen his side dispose of Wolves at Molineux, Harry Redknnapp may not find room for the Dutchman and break up the Emmanuel Adebayor/Jermain Defoe partnership. Fantasy managers are forced to “wait and see” when it comes to Van der Vaart’s fitness and role – his ability to deliver Fantasy returns is undoubted though, keeping him in our thoughts over the coming weeks.

There is perhaps greater security on offer elsewhere. Everton’s Tim Cahill looks set for another stint in the striker role for Everton – awful fixtures limit his appeal however. QPR’s Adel Taarabt saw his first significant FPL returns in Monday’s 0-0 with Newcastle and we expect the Moroccan to come to the fore over QPR’s next set of games.

Many Fantasy managers have given up on the potential of Swansea’s Scott Sinclair and Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon – we’re being less hasty, however. Both have very decent home matches to come and could yet deliver on their strong attacking threat.

Wayne Rooney continues to dominate our forward rankings with City’s Sergio Aguero now installed as his nearest competitor following his hat-trick against Wigan. The uncertainty in the City forward line is a concern, however; with Edin Dzeko suffering last weekend, the Bosnian slips down our rankings. Tonight’s Champions League lineup from Roberto Mancini will tell us more.

Javier Hernandez presents another conundrum. The Mexican announced his return to the starting lineup with a brace in the 5-0 win at the Reebok and has to come into our thinking over United’s tough run of opponents. Danny Welbeck’s return to fitness could threaten his starts and pitch-time, though – much depends on whether Alex Ferguson sees fit to hand Welbeck further opportunities following his encouraging start to the season prior to his hamstring setback.

West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie appears to offer more security at a cheaper price. The Nigerian came back with a bang at Carrow Road on Sunday, putting in an impressive shift and netting the winner for Roy Hodgson’s outfit. A strong run of opponents offer Odemwingie the platform to impress and his partnership with Shane Long could well be in for strong profits in the month ahead.

Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge presents himself as an even cheaper alternative. Like Hernandez and Dzeko, however, rotation is a risk while Sturridge is also tasked with returning Fantasy points from a role on the right of Chelsea’s attacking front three. He had little trouble at Sunderland on Saturday but, with an Old Trafford trip up next, short-term investment is perhaps being stifled. That could change as Andre Villas-Boas’ teamsheet begins to firm up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    RVP
    Aguero
    Dzeko
    Sturridge

Well this is the first time in the past few days that I've thought about taking the armband from Rooney. Admittedly we played a completely different more defensive team last night but he didn't look anything like the same attacking player he was the past few weeks, just a passing man. He just can not play the lone striker now he's adapted to the more attacking midfielder type of player.

Might be captain Bent for me. Hopefully with Heskey out this might be genius, no big tree on the field trying to win the ball and getting in the way 🙂

My defender-gate saga continue with me heavily confused.

Yesterday Martin was 54% to a drop and today he is 65% to the drop a pretty big increase considering only 0.2 own him.

Yesterday bardsley was 47% to a drop and he is now 25% to a drop and is PROTECTED. I assume when a red flag appears the % to a drop is reset? And can a player drop if he is protected? I remeber last season some players could and some couldnt, and i didnt know how to differentiate between the two.

By the looks of things i should sell Martin before Bardsley, am I reading that right?

    Morning folks,

Thinking of shipping A. Cole (planned on swapping for Bosingwa but there were always more pressing transfers) - looking at Cole's stats & returns for recent weeks and he's not done that well. Looking at Chelsea's fixtures too and the Swansea game is the only one I can imagine him getting any real returns.

Would need a player for GW 5 & 7 (got Gabbidon or Simpson for GW 6).

    1. RJ/Ward (QPR, NEW)
    2. Shawcross/Huth (sun, new)
    3. Leave A. Cole in there and use freebie transfer to swap Zog (I have .8m in the bank but wanna give him a few more games now Heskey is injured)

    Team is:

    Given

    Brown Kompany Simpson Gabbidon A.Cole

    Sess Zog Taaarrraaaabt Silva Moses

    RVP Odem Suarez

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have to say I'm not a fan of your midfield. I think your defense is playable over the next couple of weeks. I'd leave Cole for the next 3 weeks at least. If Villa had a tougher game this week I'd say get rid of N'Zog, but keep him for the game against Newcastle. You can play this team this weekend mainly to see how it goes. You could be on for nice points if things go your way.

Cheers, I agree about my mid, Zog & Sess are in last chance saloon, 1 more week for the pair of them. Resonably happy with Moses as a 5m rotation player, if you've seen him play you'll know he's bound to do something soon if Wigan can start scoring more. Just put Tarabt in for GW 5 6 & 7 and it's paying off so far, should do well if QPR can find some goals.

Thing is, if I do A. Cole > 5.1m or less defender I can upgrade Sess/Zog next week to Mata, VDV or Nani/Young!

Yeah get one of the Wolves defs then use the cash next week to bring in Mata. Chelsea have better fixtures than Spurs up to GW8 and are just hitting some form.

Think you can afford to risk no United coverage til your wildcard now you've left it this long.

Cheers Nibbsy, looking at Ward, especially if he looks like playing up front this weekend.

Not decided on Mata/VDV/Nani/Young - I like the idea of Mata but if VDV is fit he looks a good bet and I think Nani/Young are good picks.

Major transfer dilemma, guys!Who to sell Toure for?Silva or Young?Current team is:

    Given,Ruddy,

    Baines,Lescott,Bosingwa,Simpson,De Laet,

    Sess,Toure,Sinclair,Moses,Surman,

    Suarez,Rooney,Dzeko.(2.9 in bank)

I know United have tough fixtures coming up,but I still think Young will do well. But Silva has raped me in these first four weeks, but will he do well against a good Fulham side?Besides, having averted a hit for Silva last week,I'm more tempted by Young now.Thoughts?

Just finished doing the following transfers,

    Dyer>Jarvis
    Brunt>Petrov (Bolton)

I feel pretty good about them. I would like to have kept Brunt but his not coming on till the 80th min last game pissed me off something royal and then having a 50/50 chance of starting this GW just settled it for me. As for Dyer>Jarvis, well that one doesnt really need any explaing. Heres hoping I finally have a decent GW.

I was a bit too smart for my own good though and captained the creature.
Apart from the diabolical penalty miss he looked rather lively and could of amassed a gret haul but alas!!

I quite like that Tevez is withering away on the bench as a United supporter, considering his carreer plan, much as I like that Stephen Ireland is withering away on the Villa bench (considering im an Irish supporter)

I also accept that Dzeko has been very good this season

However I would definitely start Tevez over the Bosnian. He carried Citeh for two years and is a workhorse

Thoughts on these 2x front line-ups:

Mid is Jarvis, Mata, Silva, Anderson, M Petrov

    Fwds: Dzeko; Rooney; Adebayor OR
    Fwds: Aguero; Rooney; Agbon

If I try RvP it leaves me with 5.7 for a striker which seems a waste to me....

haha 100% joke. I think hes a great player though, despite captaining him at home to everton (1 point) and choising him over lescott at the tail end of last season. he cost me so much but you have to laugh.

Fine do it. But ask yourself why he is referred to as Lolorov here.

After the first week, a seed a doubt will creep in. Sure even the best players can get 1pt you think. then the next week and the next and you've got a total of about 6pt over six weeks for him. how can this happen.

Simple....he is fantasy poison. He scored last night...well lap it up sunshines...you ain't gonna be seeing that again. Even if the enture crowd behind the goal brought giant barn doors with them he would still miss them.

But by all means get him in. Enjoy, knock yourself over Lolorov's skills.

Jonty, I thought you are better than that. I didnt expect a fantasy veteran like yourself to bite.

I didn't think you were serious....but there are others that read it that might. I needed to make sure that any newbies didn't seriously get that clown in. I'm evangelical in my hatred lolorov and his 'potential'.

You've got to laugh though. When it comes to Kolarov he's a lose cannon as I said above I captained him at home to everton (1 point) and chose him over lescott at the tail end of last season, he cost me dear but still have a soft spot for his 'potential'.

I think with or with out all this lolling people will get him in simply because he scored. Why not convince more people to do so? I love mind games 🙂

    Walcott(c)

Decided this is a game, captaining Rooney is boring, much more fun this way 🙂

I do actually fancy Dzeko to score this weekend, but all this bloody rotation worries me...if I get any word of him starting I may give him the armband!

Samba will definitely grab a header against that terrible Arsenal defence 😉

Good luck to you sir! How is your team doing? Why not link it and add a grav? See the FAQ at the top if you want to know how.

    Hey guys.

Lining up the team like this atm
    Given (Vorm)
    Baines Enrique Kompany Simpson (Bosingwa)
    Nani Walcott(c) Brunt Duff (Moses)
    Suarez Dzeko (A.Johnson)

1.9 in bank.. Hoping Dzeko is nailed on but Duff and A.Johnson have to go. No need to take a 4 point hit tho so will most likely go Duff-Taarabt this week due to fixtures and the fact he has started to look good and Duff has done nothing and faces Man C. Anyone think I should do something else or make any changes??

      Brunt isn't guaranteed to start.

Get some cash out of your defence. Baines to a 4.5 or less next week.

Change Johnson to a forward who plays.
