Three was certainly the magic number if you happen to reside in the city of Manchester, with both Wayne Roney and Sergio Aguero snaffling hat-tricks last weekend. Here on the “Flutter”, we had our eye on a hat-trick of our own having backed three Fulham players to come good against Blackburn last Sunday. This, as you may have gathered, didn’t end profitably, with The Cottagers only mustering a miserable 1-1 draw. Our punts – John Arne Riise and new arrival Bryan Ruiz, were both hauled off before the final whistle, whilst Clint Dempsey failed to impress against a Rovers defence who shipped goals up and down the country last season.

More setbacks then but, while our Fantasy Flutter coffers are low, our spirits remain on a high as Paddy posts a new set of markets for us to try and stem the tide and wash some of that cash back our way. Surfing the wave of our potential gains this gameweek are midfield prospects courtesy of Tim Cahill, Scott Sinclair and Martin Petrov, whilst Wayne Rooney and Leighton Baines complete another Flutter lineup.

Although putting our eggs into one basket failed last week, the proven Everton combination of Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines looks too good to resist this time around. Our Fulham bets relied on long-shots and unknown quantities, but this week, Paddy’s markets appear to offer less risk and more value. Baines at 11/8 to keep a clean sheet and not to be booked is decent considering the flighty left-back rarely troubles the ref’s notebook, whilst Everton’s opponents Wigan have yet to score on the road. A confident £4 on Baines and cheeky quid on Cahill to score a header at 9/2 tie up half our stake this week.

Next up, Swansea’s “most likely”, Scott Sinclair takes on the Baggies at the Liberty Stadium. Having already hit the woodwork twice this season, the former Chelsea man is due a break and we just fancy the Swans to break their duck against Roy Hodgson’s defence who have been disrupted by the suspension of Gabriel Tamas. Sinclair is on set-pieces and spot-kicks and Paddy have him at 2/1 to score anytime. Those are odds that you’d have to search far and wide to beat, so £3 is easy to part with.

Even though most of our £10 funds are spent, we still have two tasty little markets to digest. Martin Petrov has managed three assists in four outings thus far for Bolton, all of which in games against top four clubs. His strong and pacey runs down the left, often with an end product and stikers David N’Gog, Ivan Klasnic and Kevin Davies will all be looking to profit against visitors Norwich this weekend. Petrov to make a couple of assists at 11/1 for a £1 stake doesn’t seem as much of a long-shot as the odds would suggest.

Last but not least, Wayne Rooney has been reborn as a one-man goal machine for United this term. A free role in tandem with Welbeck or Hernandez has seen Rooney thrive, producing eight goals in four games. With Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, the going may well be tougher but Paddy are throwing an assist and a goal for Rooney at 6/1 and to score from open play and a dead ball at 13/2. With Rooney’s current form you could wager a couple of quid confidently on either. However, Chelsea are more than capable of putting up some resistance so we’ll take Rooney to score a header at 13/2 – a bet that walks the tightrope between risk and value for us and our remaining £1 stake.

Money Back If Chelsea Win At Old Trafford!

Paddy’s refund special for the Gameweek not surprisingly sets sights on Sunday’s United vs Chelsea tussle. This one looks pretty decent – if Chelsea can conjure a winning performance, Paddy will refund all losing 1st/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match.

depends on whether Luiz is fit or not. There was already talk last week that Bos wasn't going to start and that Ivanovic would take his place but it didnt eventuate. Theres a high likelihood Luiz will in fact be ready this week. Better to be safe than sorry, and theres no harm in switching him out when they're playing the best team in the league.

Captaining Baines over Roo, Lamps, Dzeko as I don't fancy any of them to score more than1.
Scared the masses will go Roo and outscore me (for a change) & first time ever captaining a Defender...
    Does it lack sense though?

                    For the next gameweeks:
.Transfer out one of Nasri or Silva for: Mata, Nani or Young.

This week is not the greatest fixture wise as even those with favorable fixtures are playing away from home

Long term i think the likes of smalling, walcott, richards and anderson will dissapoint due to being rotated quite often.

You dont have many viable Captain options. Most would like at least 1 or 2 players who can be relied on for high scores e.g. rooney, aguero, rvp etc... - a lack of these options will also cause some headaches.

Nasri and silva is too much imo

Keep an eye on news of Brunt. Consider playing Dyer instead. Swansea have to score at some point.

Otherwise Dyer first on bench. And I'd play Simpson and bench de Laet for sure.

It'll be hard to help out on your team if you're playing a different game since we all most likely have no concept of value/points scoring etc.

Also - in future preface with this being your ESPN team (otherwise you spend half your time fighting people who don't realise there are other fantasy games out there).

Since you can't make loads of subs, my view is to stick with what you have. I'd possibly look at bringing in Aguero (for Suarez), and losing one of Nasri/Silva - Mata looks a good option.

I'd move Moses up in your subs bench (marginal though, but I see it being a 1 point difference, especially if Brunt doesn't play).

An option would be Brunt -> Petrov/O'Hara/Walters/Cabaye

Personally, I'd be tempted to go Moses over Sess. I've got a feeling Moses will do something this weekend.

Sess, on the other hand, is at home. Stoke pretty tight at the back.

Toss up really, but I like Moses v Everton defence a bit more and that's from a Baies owner who doubts Everton will keep a cleanie this weekend.

      I'm going for Baines.

My logic: Everton are likely (say 50/50ish) to keep a clean sheet, on top of that Baines could get a goal and/or assist for an upside potential of 15 points (plus BPs). Downside is nothing, average case would be something like a CS, or an assist or a goal and BPs - so you're looking at around 5-8 points.

Dzeko you have rotation risk, City may have taken a knock in confidence on Wednesday, tired legs comes into play as well.

Finally Bent gives you a chance at a goal and some chance of two for upside of 10 points plus BPs, but a likely 5/6 + BPs.

Baines. Bookies have Everton at the shortest odds to pick up a win/clean sheet this week. Baines = FK taker, corner taker, penalties, crossing/assists legend.

Bent has been completely off this season. Forget about captaincy, you should be thinking of trasnfering him out with the defensive Aston's employed this season.

Dzeko...can see him scoring a goal...but a defenders goal is worth a heck of a lot more than a forwards

that's just one week, and anyway, that was ages ago. He's had an injury after GW2. If you make that argument, then you can say how many points did Baines score last week? A better argument would be which player has gathered more points so far = Baines.

Anyway, the point here is which would make a better captain this week. Everton are likeliest of all teams to win this week (says every single betting agency). And if Baines is on the fks, pens, corners, theres nothing going against him as far as im concerend

I have Baines and I really don't see any earthly reason to put the armband on him unless you are seriously desperate for a differential 5 weeks into the season.

I don't trust Everton defence to keep a cleanie. They conceded, at home, against a QPR side that is a shadow of the new look QPR team and was nowhere near as good as it is now.

Can't see them shutting Wigan out either, to be honest with you, so I reckon thats 2 pts from Baines. You're then relying on a Baines pen really, or an assist, which isn't guaranteed.

It could work but why take the risk this early on?

Like others have already said on here this week, if you don't captain Rooney/Silva/RVP and they go balistic this weekend and Baines gets you 4 points you'll probably end up at least 20 pts worse off than when you started.

        Up to you though.

You cant expect players to deliver week in week out. Rooney has had a great start to the season but if he doesnt get any points this gw are people going to swap him from captain cos they "got burnt last week?" No is the answer so if i was you i woud stick with RVP cos you will be sick if he scores big this week and you change it to someone else. Patience is the key in this game.

He hit the post against Swansea (would've got an BP or two as well if it went if for a score of 7/8), would we be having this conversation under those circumstances.

He scored against United and Dortmund in the games either side of that.

He's playing Blackburn who aren't exactly a defensive rock. I'd say he's bound to get one or two today.

12 goals in 11 away games according to stats elsewhere. The only arsenal player who can score at the moment...

Blackburn have got a strong defence with Samba and Scott Dann.
Arsenal might dominate but I see them only just scraping a win with their form.

      What are your other options?

        +1

BB always tighten up at the back as season goes on. Robbo/Samba/Dann should cause heartache for all the RVP owners.

        I hope.

He should be amongst the points imo. He's in fairly good form. Obviously there's a handful of other strikers in much better form playing in teams that are creating much more chances. It's a good fixture for him though. Remember how consistent he was scoring away goals last season? One a game for ages, well he's scored in his last 3 away games against much better opposition than blackburn. That's my reasons, I have another list for dzeko though 😕

Shuffling..natt, RV has scored in 10 of the last 11 games. He has scored 8 goals in 10 games v Blackburn.

Clearly, then, history is on his side. True, that's no indicator of how he will do today but you have to hang your hat on something.

And, let's face it, he's playing the team rock bottom of the Premier League and that have conceded at least once in every game this season so far.

Faced with those facts if you have paid £12m to have RVP in your team why would you NOT captain him this week?

I have Roo and RVP and made the wrong choice last week, I've swapped back to Roo this week so RVP will probably score a load. I don't mind though as only 6% ownership so I'll still be getting the points anyway and really can't afford not to have Roo when everyone else does. hope my ramblings helped lol

Cheers all.. These rationale talks are clearly the beauty of this forum.

RVP is very likely to be among points, I think his ceiling might be not so high, probably a goal.

It's not that I don't trust RVP but I feel Blackburn will be getting better.
They get two best CB back with some first team players.
It'll be more tough for Arsenal to beat.
