With Wayne Rooney fit to face Norwich and Sergio Aguero sizing up Blackburn at Ewood, it seemed unlikely that we’d be pondering the merits of another when Brucie stumbles over his autocue this evening. Today strictly belonged to Gabby Agbonlahor however, as the Villa roadrunner unveiled a full repertoire of pace, power and trickery to waltz through a hapless Wigan defence.

As Rooney huffed and puffed against Norwich resistance, his fellow Manchester hitman was already clutching an ice-pack to a 27th minute injury that saw Aguero forced off and miss out on an Ewood massacre. That left the headlines open for Agbonlahor; he duly added another chapter to an unlikely tale of his ascent back to England recognition.

While Fabio may resist, Fantasy managers will now be well aware of Agbonlahor’s resurgence. Four goals in seven starts, three assists thrown in – a top 10 EA PPI placing – the case is looking a strong one.

Ownership has been creeping up at pace, and now, with a prolonged break for international distractions, you can bet that Agbonlahor’s charms will attract further investment – another FPL price rise piled on his now generous 6.5 initial valuation.

The engine on Agbonlahor’s bandwagon sounds healthy; for many he will now surely emerge as the favoured third striker option, sandwiched between two heavyweights. On a day where two such “big-hitting” strikers disappointed, the potential offered by Agbonlahor shines brighter than ever.

Typically, I can throw a sizeable spanner in the works, a few speed bumps in the road. Agbonlahor and Villa go to Man City next; Roberto Mancini’s side are yet to concede a single goal at home in three matches this season. Regardless, with many Fantasy forward lines stalling today, I’d wager thousands will turn Agbonlahor’s way to help salve the disappointment.

*edit* – Since publish, Gabriel Agbonlahor has Spoken to the BBC (see 17:39) and confirmed that he will be using the upcoming International Break to try and fix a niggle he has been carrying. He confirmed…

“I’ve got a back problem. I’m going to get it sorted during the international break.”

This news may in fact temper some of the early knee-jerkers with full prognosis on potential back woes perhaps needed before it can be full steam ahead on the Agbonlahor bandwagon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

only good thing about today was having suarez and enrique in an already rampant skysports side. 5 points for MOTM too so suarez' dodgy award much appreciated

Yeah I was surprised by the pundit's gushing of Suarez today. He was his usual livewire self without being too destructive. Quite fortunate with the goal too. Enrique = top player.

Need to get rid of Sessegnon urgently.

    Options are:

    1) Ramsey
    2) Sinclair
    3) Bannan
    4) Ben Arfa/Cabaye

    Thoughts?

I must say that I am really happy for holding and not knee jerking. I had 10 combination for transfers having players like Dzeko, Walcott, Brunt, Briggs etx.. but I didn't went for Aguero and left Brunt to do the job from the bench. Now I have 2 free and planning having extreme cover from Arsenal.

Dzeko and Young out (have Rooney already) Ramsey and RVP in. The fixtures are lovely.

That will give me RVP, Walcott and Ramsey and Walcott one of the next GW's will go for VDV and I will have the cash for it, I think even it would be on the margin.

Bottom line I want to say that I am surprised by my steps. I am pro hits sometimes and early transfers and I hate price drops. I was aware of Brunt drop, Walcott drop, Dzeko drop, Rooney drop but have waited, waited and waited. I recommend to the others too.

Cheers, and this will be successful GW after all.

Well I love the fixtures. Sun are leaking goals like mad, and Stoke are different team away. When Walcott leaves my team that will be 2 players from Arsenal but 3 from 4 games at home against opponents like Sun. Stk, Wba, then nor, FUl, wig. That is great and Ars are scoring still.

In mean time Utd has tough fixtures, Aguero is out and I have Silva, Che aren't convincing ATM so I don't see a player who will be a captain and doing much harm

Have 1 free transfer & don’t mind taking a 4 pt hit either, have 0.0 in the bank.

    Team is:

    Given (Ruddy)

Enrique – Jones – Simpson (N.Taylor, De Laet)

Mata – Young – Nasri – Meireles (Ferguson)

Aguero – Van Persie – Best

Bit concerned about jones, and aguero’s injury. Not too bothered about my subs due to limited 2 changes, just want to know how you would make the main body of the team better.

Plus, what teams have better run of fixtures coming up could influence decision-making?

Hard to judge when Meireles, Mata and RVP haven't played yet.

Problem is that when Young or Nasri get rested - like Young today, you have Taylor to come off the bench.... Same with Aguero's injury if serious.

In terms of fixtures: Arsenal, Spurs & Bolton all have good fixtures after GW7 as they've played the likes of Utd, City, Liverpool already.

He was very quiet, and the goals came after the subs so it's hard to make a case it would've been better to keep him on.

Silva out, Mata in. My oddest transfer ever. (i wanted an attacking FPL interest in Bolton V Chelsea). I actually seem to dictate my transfers around live games now.

I have 22 with Adebayor, RVP, Mata, Sinclair, Naylor & Petrov to play, could be worse considering i had no united coverage and lost aguero captain

Might have been my fault tbh.

Last week I decided to captain Rooney for the first time, and look how that ended up.

For this week I transferred in Aguero for the first time.

    Great week for me

    Aguero(c)
    Young in team
    Doubled up on newcastle defenders

Thank f*** for enrique (a player i would have taken out this week if bramble hadnt got done for drugs charges)

For next week i'm looking at

    Young, Ferguson, Ward

    For

    Ramsey, Barton, Kompany

only a 4point hit. Seems worth it in the light of young being dropped completely and man utd having difficult fixtures ahead.

    Any thoughts?

Rival is such a rookie. Has extremely poor defence and goalkeepers (all under 4.5) and spends so much on midfield and forwards. Today he really struggled when Aguero, Rooney, Nani and Young all failed to deliver.

You seriously calling that a bad move? Nasri didnt start the game today, whoever held onto him was lucky. Nasri to Silva was a good transfer, just very unlucky that Nasri happened to come on.
