Liverpool expect Steven Gerrard to step up his fitness program during the international break. Harry Redknapp admits it’s a tricky job fitting Rafael Van der Vaart into his side right now, while another Spurs forward looks for the exit door. Reports in the Spanish media suggest Sergio Aguero is almost certain not to play for Argentina over the next few days and Carlos Tevez’s adviser blames everyone but the player himself over last week’s incident in Munich. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles:

Harry Redknapp has admitted he has something of a quandary on his hands when it comes to accommodating Rafael Van der Vaart in the Spurs side right now. The Dutchman was played wide right against Arsenal last weekend and despite scoring, had called to be moved back into β€œthe hole” just behind Emmanuel Adebayor. Redknapp, however, has claimed it’s a straight fight between Van der Vaart and Jermain Defoe and slammed the former for his part in the Gunners equaliser on Sunday afternoon:

Yes, it does seem to be a problem. Rafa can’t run back and chase the full-back. Against the better teams it is a problem. Rafa’s best position is in the middle, playing just behind the front man. The only problem is that Jermain Defoe plays there too and Jermain is playing very, very well at the moment. So, I guess I have got a decision to make, haven’t I? I suppose it’s now between Rafa and Jermain over who plays in the team. Rafa is a terrific footballer. He has great skill. But if you’re in the team and asked to do a job, really, you should just do it.

Redknapp’s other forwards are far from happy with a lack of game time, either. Last season’s top scorer, Roman Pavlyuchenko, has featured for a mere seventeen minutes in the league so far this season, in a brief sub appearance at Man United. The Russian feels he has no alternative but to look for a move away in January if the situation remains the same.

According to reports from Spanish news group EFE, Sergio Aguero has stated he is unlikely to take part in Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers over the next few days. Man City have yet to confirm this, but it is claimed the groin injury Aguero picked up at Blackburn has been deemed too risky by Argentina medical staff and quotes attributed to the player state:

I am almost ruled out. The doctors say this is a very tricky injury. I am sorry that this is happening in this good moment I am going through at Manchester City, I was hopeful of at least getting to play the Venezuela match, but the doctors have told me they will not take risks.

The Carlos Tevez saga rolled on yesterday, with the Argentine’s advisor Kia Joorabchian claiming his client’s words were lost in translation. Blaming everyone from the club interpreter to Roberto Mancini yesterday, Joorabchian is insistent Tevez did not refuse to take to the pitch last week at Bayern Munich, instead claiming he had only refused to warm up, as he felt ready to immediately join the action. Tevez is a week into his fortnight suspension by Man City and a decision on his future is expected imminently.

Liverpool assistant boss Steve Clarke has been discussing Steven Gerrard’s fitness. The Reds skipper continued his comeback from a groin problem with a twenty-three minute sub appearance in the Merseyside derby win at Everton and Clarke told liverpoolfc.tv it’s time for Gerrard to step it up :

For Steven it’s just a progression. He’s coming back from a long-term injury and we’ll try to treat him as cautiously and carefully as we can. Obviously there will be a time when he is going to have to push on – and I think this is the time now. With Steven it has been well documented that we’re looking after him. He’s going to have to push himself in the coming weeks – and the more minutes we get into him, the better.

Sylvain Marveaux acknowledges he needs to show a little patience as he attempts to break into the Newcastle first-team. The Frenchman’s brace in Tuesday night’s reserve game suggests he’s in good form but, given the club’s unbeaten start to the season, the winger accepts he has to wait for his opportunity:
At the moment, it isn’t easy to get into the team because they are unbeaten. We’re all working hard and trying to show the manager what we can do. I’m ready, and I’ll wait for my chance. We’re winning football matches, and the guys on the wings are performing well when they’re asked to perform. Sometimes it is difficult to change a winning side.

    Couple of quick points:

    1. Why is the "Hide comments replies by default" initially ticked. Surely the vast majority, if not everyone, will want to be able to read the replies? The forum part of the website is the best thing about it, at least IMO, so this change seems a little odd to me.

    2. Any chance that some sort of time perspective could be brought back for the tweets on the homepage? For no particular reason, I quite like knowing how long ago the tweets were made.

"In truth we are under a deception similar to that which misleads the
traveller in the Arabian desert. Beneath the caravan all is dry and
bare: but far in advance, and far in the rear, is the semblance of
refreshing waters. The pilgrims hasten forward and find nothing but sand
where an hour before they had seen a lake. They turn their eyes and see
a lake where, an hour before, they were toiling through sand."

    Hi guys,

Compliments to the interior decorator; looks very nice!

Somehow I managed to get Welbeck in my team (it was a cunning but not very successful plan). Are any of the following replacements worth a -4 point hit?
    1) Adebayor
    2) Suarez
    3) Sturridge

1&2 would be long term. Sturridge for the next couple of games.

Wait of Suarez, unless you really believe he´ll do big things against ManU. And Wait on Ade with the injury. Something tells me you might rue dumping Danny, who knows RVP may come good against Sunderland. But for this coming GW I would think a healthy Ade would be the target, something tells me the Newcastle bubble will finally burst. Everton play a rather deep back line and you couldn´t really tell a difference in their shape minus Rodwell and with a full host of XI last week, so it could be a low scoring affair for Sturridge and Company, but all bets are off at The Bridge.

I wouldn´t drop Anderson for those two, sorry. Rooney attracts so much attention, no one ever really closes him down with acres of space in the middle, and by now we all know that he doesn´t f%$k around with opportunities. You can´t quantify that like you can a measured set piece or the occasional PK. But it´s obvious when they´ve maintained possession in the final 1/3 for a full 2 minutes of live play. The other two register a whimper on heat maps.

you're right but Petrov does produce even if he does disappear for 90mins. Murphy gets certain starts, bonus potential and takes pens so possession isn't always everything.

indeed, and it very well may be an eastern european bonanza when Klass and Petrov connect. But I just would go with player from the well oiled machine that has basically acres of space in the middle. Murph, has the middle but the next two matches for Fulham could very well be scoreless draws with Murphy making a total of 57 passes in both where anderson would surpass that maybe in one. You're right though a tackle-magnet like Dempsey gets brought down in the box 3 times in two games and I look like a fool.

Not a fan of the little person Bannan. He seems very meek and prone to periods of hiding from the ball. That could be the schitzo nature of Villa's tempo in general. And against Man City, need I say more too much time on defense for that lot if you ask me.

It just seems to me that Van Der Vaart, when on form, is amazing. Defoe just seems to play well now and again. I would have thought that Redknapp would give VDV the spot that he wants and slip Defoe in there somewhere. But this is why I don't manage a football team.

VDV is talented and productive but his fitness is poor. Barely lasts more than an hour because he runs out of steam and becomes complete passenger. Droopy returning to 4-4-2 is less about Ade, more about accommodating Defoe on form. If Defoe forms slips, Spurs will play effective 4-5-1.

4-5-1 I think is their best option, especially seeing as last year they played 4-4-2 last season away to bigger teams and got beaten by most.

VDV has serious fitness issues. He likes to stand around when not directly involved, put that together with having just ran a hard 1/8 of a mile in a tight box the previous build-up/series you see where the calf strains hammy pulls come from. He's gotten away with doing things his way for quite some time. This season I believe something has got to give, may be another muscle, could be a tendon. But I doubt it'll be Harry this time. If so, crockcity here we come. I'd bring in Sandro before I waste money on him again. But sense I ain't crazy I'll take a helping of Ade and Modric please.

Ade and Aguero both nailed on IMO. Just international injuries. Ade will rest and now Argentina have given their blessing to Aguero.

I dunno about Aguero will be nailed on each week now.
I don't expect him to play Villa considering they have a CL game and then Man U coming up that week.
Mancini will surely realise Aguero's injury was due to playing so many games in a row.
He is a good pick mind you, I just think Mancini may be a little more careful now.

I take your point, sir Jack. I guess I'm just wary of getting rid and being thanked by a brace and bonus. Same with Rooney. For 11+ you want big points almost every week.

Got Silva now so may do Aguero to RVP for the next few weeks if he's going to be out.

Sounds like VdV may not be the safest Spurs pick right now?

I was thinking of Aguero to Adebayor and Taarabt to Ramsey for Arsenal cover for the next couple of weeks.

      1) RVP isnt in form tbh.
      2) I think 10 odd days is enough for the Aguero injury to clear up hopefully.

Na unfortunately for VdV owners there is a strong possibility he will be benched because of Defoe's form. Defoe has benifitted from having Adebayor in the team, the two have good chemistry

Now that is some quality advice.
I just don't like it when people say someone may not play etc when there is no clear evidence or previous incidents as such.
From my point of view, I see Harry playing VDV over Defoe in most games, and then bringing Defoe on 60-70th minute, which would probably be ideal for Spurs me thinks.

Possibly but who can really say. Sometimes you have to back a hunch though. And based on the above article it seems there is serious doubt about VdV for this gameweek. Maybe when Defoe starts playing badly will VdV nail down a starting forward role in the team

It is a wait and see for most anyway.
Alot are looking to buy VDV, but against Newcastle away and all this uncertainty I don't see the point, if he plays behind Adebayor, at 9.7 with good fixtures, pens and set pieces in a top 6 team it will be pretty hard to look past!

And Ferguson was out at the start. Now he's back playing, Cleverley may get limited game time despite promising form before injury. I believe Anderson is a pretty nailed on starter, although Manc fans may say otherwise.

From everything that I have read, Cleverley is consider number 1 choice.
In saying that, I obviously wont pick him if he doesnt play most games, although he wouldnt need to.
It's Cleverley or nobody for me as far him or Anderson is concerned. For me, obviously.

Anderson is a much more attacking threat this season than in previous seasons and he's already shown that with 2 goals and an assist. I think it's a sign of things to come.

Just getting greedy I guess, thinking of the extra big midfielder the 2 mil could go towards, while keeping chelsea cover. That could be Nasri, VDV, Mata, Walcott, Nani at a push.

Depends. I think Argentina aren't risking him because they don't need too. 2 weeks rest should make him 100% ready for Villa. I think we'll know either way though closer to the game.

Let's say I agree with your assertion which is definitely in the realm; what sort of run-out do you give him?

Rested for internationals, play against Villa, Dzeko and Balo for mid-week. Done and done.

I think if he is rested for any of the 3, it would be against Villa.
But, it is Mancini we are talking about so who the hell knows!

Rest is one thing, scoring fantasy points is another. Not so sure Villa will be a walkover.

Mancini played him after his trip to India... he's clearly their best striker - he'll play! Rooney has the same amount of games that week - i doubt he'll be rested either.

So...will it be 4-4-2 or 3-5-2, the most could see him playing is a desperation 20 minutes if they're down to Villa. And that ain't likely.

Planning to play 3 of these.....

thinking of a 0-0 in Liverfool Vs United.... would be brave move to play both Jones & Enrique but a nice differential, eh?

Any other suggestions of who to play?

    Jones, Enrique, NTaylor, Simpson, Kompany.

I would go one of Enrique/ Jones ( Former for me ), N Taylor and Kompany - Newcastle are going to get thumped

I think the point of having Enrique and Jones is the fact they play for strong teams and have serious attacking potential, meaning you can play them against anybody.
Case in point; Jones vs Chelsea, Enrique vs Everton away...

Yeah true.... they both have good assist potential..... but just not sure its worth the risk to play both of them.....
Think I may go with Teamzm's idea.....

Don't do many RMT but here goes:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Bosingwa Richards L.Young (Simpson) (Jag)
    Silva Mata Barton Moses (Sinclair)
    Rooney Dzeko Ade

One free transfer and nada in the bank.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Jackers - not so sure Young is part of the "Supa Dupa 6" as Jafa would say....most likely the "Sooper Pooper"...neither is Mata I think...

I'm actually hoping one of Ade or Kun is defnitely ruled out of the next gw...

I have Nathan '17 points in 2 starts for me' Dyer to come in if Ade is out so I am cool with that, although I'd rather it be Aguero.
I think the 'super dupa six' is a myth created by Jafa when being rushed into playing his WC and since then, it has taken over him and turned him into a monster ....that's my theory anway πŸ˜‰

it lies with my second team that i started gw2, as the gw 1 crash meant i couldn't register a team as i left it until the Friday (I'm not one for tinkering for a month before the start)

so Demi donated his second team and his 40 points from gw1, like a true gent
